Honestly I don't know why this place doesn't have a higher rating. I think most people that come here is expecting Mexico style Mexican food, and not Yucatán/Mayan style Mexican food. There is a big difference. I went here with a few friends, and was immediately greeted by a kind hostess and a very attentive waitress. The restaurant appeared to be clean and there were quite a few people enjoying their meals. The restaurant was not overly crowded and was not too loud which made for good conversation at our table. When I picked up the menu, I immediately noticed the Yucatán style menu. This is important because it's not Mexico style cooking. Yukatán food is often more vibrant, with more spices, and more intense flavors. I got the Arrachera, which is a grilled skirt steak. It was wonderful. Perfectly spiced, and perfectly cooked. The rice was OK, but honestly I've never been a fan of Yucatán style rice, but the beans were not my favorite. For refried beans, they really did lack flavor and I felt like they were trying to make them taste better by the extra cheese they added to them. Of course the guacamole and the pico de gallo were perfect. All in all, this is a pretty good place. Very friendly staff! The host was kind and our server was great. The restaurant was busy and is obviously popular. The food was a letdown. Nothing noteworthy, and certainly not worth the price point. From a state that has decent Mexican food yet not one spot where you can sit down and eat a few baskets of good chips and salsa. Googled best chips and salsa in Bend and La Rosa came up! Walked there from downtown(about 2.4 miles one way) and got there at 3. They have happy hour from 3-530 and margaritas are only 8 dollars and more important they are super good, not overly sweet or harsh or too tart/acidic. The first two on the menu are the less sweet and the 2nd two are more sweet. The chips and salsa were so good!! we kept asking for refills and Carmelo was super nice and friendly and kept bringing more. We chatted with him for a bit as well. Also got the barbacoa taco appetizer which as really good as well. Will definitely come back on the next visit to Bend for some amazing salsa and margartitas!! read more

My ohana and I were visiting from the Big Island last week and we are the type to look for the best Mexican foods since it's slim pickings here! We did some research and went to La Rosa last week Wednesday with our two girls and we enjoy the food, the margs and the service sooo much!! Our waitress was very kind and attentive and we enjoyed her company! Kids had sizzling shrimp fajitas and stoked they have a delicious mild salsa for the kiddos which actually became our favorite all around. I enjoyed the cilantro lime chicken and hubby loved his tacos. The margaritas are truly scratch made and enjoyed them so much. Our last day was yesterday and decided to leave Sunriver early enough so we could stop here one more time for our farewell dinner before we caught our plane back to the island. Pretty good Mexican food! Large dishes and good flavors. The weirdest thing though was that we ordered tacos al pastor and it came with absolutely no pineapple. We talked to the waiter and he ended up just bringing us a bowl of cold pineapple slices... a bit odd. We got here about 630 on Tuesday evening. It's a small restaurant, not too busy, and we were seated at a table in front of the doors (chilly).. The decor and furniture are spare and sort of have a cafeteria feel, but there is a lively small bar around the back. We were greeted promptly and given water and chips/salsa. Our server was quick also- took our drink order and then our meal order. I ordered the taco salad- which I wouldn't ordinarily, but I wasn't super hungry. The husband ordered the skirt steak medium. I ordered ground beef in mine. I'm not sure, but I felt something was off about the meat seasoning and only had a few bites. DH liked his. When I got home I was very ill. I've only just now on Wed at 600 pm have begun feeling human again. All in all, I wouldn't personally return to this restaurant not just because of my illness, but overall the place lacks the ambience and coziness I was looking for.This is our 4th Mexican Restaurant since moving to Bend 2 months ago- so we are still on the hunt for one we love! We've passed by La Rosa a lot when in the area hiking. Finally got to check it out last weekend. We were there for an early dinner at 5, so of course they weren't too busy and we were seated immediately. The place is nice, not the biggest dining room, but lots of outdoor seating when available. They've got a pretty decent menu, mostly your typical findings at any full-service Mexican joint. We ordered a taco plate and a combo plate that included 2 enchiladas and a taco. My husband also had a house margarita, which he said was pretty good. The salsa is spicy, with a good flavor, but it's super thin...stinks for those like me who prefer to load up their chip. The enchiladas and chicken taco where tasty, good flavor and each loaded with chicken. The carne asada tacos were a smidge bland...good quality beef it seemed, they just needed a flavor bump. Good first impression overall. The service we received was fabulous, very pleasant and attentive. I'd return for sure. read more

Let me start off by saying the food feels more Mexican inspired rather than authentic Mexican food. With that said they still get a 5 star from me for several reasons. I traveled to Bend to visit an extended family member just out of a 2 week stay at a hospital and she requested take out from La Rosa. She had a very specific order request and I was concerned her first meal home would not be to her satisfaction- I was SO IMPRESSED they got every last detail correct; as was she. Also, LOVE that they have To-Go Margaritas too....very well made! I had a Sea Food Burrito that was very tasty, not a fan of the white rice but the price was very reasonable. Wow new owner at LaRosa after all of these years! We were pleasantly surprised by the changes. Still same wonderful Margaritas from the bar. My husband loves the Horny Todd and I'm a Bahia fan and both were top notch. Salsa was so good and chips big and crispy. My husband ordered his old favorite Pescado LaRosa and wow it was the best it has ever been and I had the simple taquitos but they weren't simple at all! They were crispy around the edges filled with delicious chicken and served with sour cream and guacamole. I love it when a restaurant surprises me for the better. I visited La Rosa last night with my husband and 2 kids (9 and 11 years old) and we had a lovely meal with incredibly earnest and attentive service. The food was good with a nice menu, lots of options and something for everyone. The memorable part of our experience however was the team based service model. We arrived with no reservation and the hostess team worked creatively to accommodate my request for a booth. Once seated, we had at least 5 different people visit our table during our meal - starting with a quick delivery of water, chips and salsa. Next was a server to take our order, followed by various people refilling waters, refilling chips, clearing plates through out the meal. It was unusual to see so many people working together to provide a great experience for our family. We spoke with the kind manager Carmelo on the way out and it was clear that his positive attitude and leadership were responsible for selecting and training the young team and orchestrating the experience. This place needs help. The staff are mostly kind, but seem very young and inexperienced. They are in desperate need of bussers, as the floor is riddled with trash and food. Furthermore, tables go unbused for way too long. The food was not enjoyable including high-quality, the oil soaked fajitas, the brown guacamole, and chimichanga which we had at our table. For such a great location, this place should be much better. There's really not a ton of Mexican food competition in Bend, so this place can stand to improve and gain a new following. The location and nearby community would support a high quality, family focused Mexican restaurant. Hope they make some significant changes. This is a really convenient place in the newish part of Bend at the Crossing. It's easy to park and walk to it and it has nice sunshine in its corner location. We were there early for cocktails and a quick bite. The main thing is that it does get super busy in the area so make sure you get there early or have a reservation. The food was pretty decent for us. We had guacamole and a few tacos, but the standout thing there are the whiskeys and spirits. We had some great ones. We have gone to LaRosa's for years and always had good food and service. Today (April 11th), my wife and I went there for lunch around 11:30AM. The food was not good. I had 2 ground beef enchiladas and my wife had the quesadilla. The ground beef in the enchiladas had way to much sauce on it. The quesadilla did not have much cheese and also had bacon bits (never hear of bacon bits on quesadilla). The service was VERY, VERY slow, even though there were not that many people in the restaurant. It'll be a while before we go back and spend $$$ for sub par food and service. read more

No big deal thought she just grabbed the drink menu by mistake so I go ask for another menu. "We are all out of the menus, there is only two of you can't you just share" sure thing and if she told us I wouldn't of asked for another one. The waiter comes over very rushed I ordered a Strawberry Daquri w vodka. He brings it out it tastes like tequila so I hesitantly ask him if it was tequila he said "it's a daquri they are made w rum" I was like ok no problem I just asked for vodka. He sighs and says would you like me to make you a new one. I said no it's ok. The amazing wonderful fantastic lady who brought our food out was the single best thing about this place she was so nice and this the reason for the 2 stars. The chips tasted like stale store bought chips. Salsa was good. Portions are pretty small for a Mexican restaurant. We both got fajitas one steak one chicken. My advice is to put ice cream in a separate container then hot churros when guests order to go. Especially because I said I'm allergic to dairy. I was gonna eat the churro and my bf the ice cream. Staff here is friendly and the margaritas are good. However I will say there is inconsistency in the kitchen. I ordered the ceviche both times I went and the first time it was heavily doused with cayenne pepper (a first because it isn't usually made with cayenne) and the second time it had massive amounts of jalapeño chopped into it making it almost a personal challenge to get through. TIP: If you go and order ceviche, make sure you ask it to be without any spice at all and hopefully you will be able to really enjoy it to the fullest. read more

The food is pretty good to okay. I loved the chips and salsa, but if that's the highlight... The chips were the perfect light crunch, not to fried, too greasy or too salty. The salsa is also very good and fresh, and i appreciated getting complimentary retried beans as well (also good). There are 3 vegan options on the menu, which I'm thankful for but can't help but wonder why there are no tofu or mushroom tacos. I ordered then vegetable enchiladas which were shockingly bland (the sauce especially) and the filling was sooooo oily (and not seasoned). The black beans and rice that came with it had more flavor but those dishes shouldn't outshine the main right? My husband and I had dinner here on a busy Monday evening. The service was friendly, the food was fantastic and the infused margarita was delish. I had the Paella con Pollo, a dish brand new to the menu that day. Yucatán style, I guess. It was very good. The owner even came to our table to apologize because they didn't have carne asada that evening, which had been hubby's 1st choice. Used to be one of my favorite places. I'm not sure exactly what's going on but it's sad. The ambiance: the banks of booths, the buzz of music/happy diners/warmth has been replaced with a rather stark dining experience with tables and sort of unattractive plexiglass dividers. It just looked sort of run down and as if under completely new management. The dining: in keeping with the stark ambiance, the food was meh. Gone is the Al fresco guacamole table side. I ordered a chicken bowl. It was served on a small plate with cold black beans, the grilled chicken was thin, cold and dry, scant amount. The veggies were about 1/4 cup in the center. They no longer serve my husbands favorite tequila. No wine apparently. Very few diners, which is odd for this well established restaurant on a Friday afternoon. We quickly ate and left. Perhaps when it warms up and the patio opens back up it may regenerate but this was a disappointing visit. Delicious, fresh, and exceptional customer service. Group of 10, we called in our reservation and it was about a 40 minute wait, with kids it's dicey, but within 15 minutes, they were able to work something out and get us seated! The kids Shirley temples were crisp and each included a maraschino cherry for an added touch. I felt that fine detail was exceptional-for kids. Cactus Margarita w/ shaker had me drinking for a solid half hour. Yummy, not to sweet and very complimentary to the agave tequila its made with. From fajitas, Pina Rellanos, beef enchiladas, tacos and wet burritos every1 in our party was fed well and promptly (given the current events of the restaurant industry). Pina Rellanos I ordered solely for the Instagram photo, turned out to be delicious too! Not too seafoody, rather light, and a good filling amount.
