This was the absolute best upscale Mexican restauraunt I've ever been to. The seafood, fruits, and vegetables were all so fresh tasting. I love when they make guacamole fresh at your table. I wonder if La Rosa had an off night or if most their customers haven't had good Mexican food to compare it to. We came in on a Friday night and were told it would be about 20 mins. 45 mins pass and we're finally seated in the world's most awkward booth. The table was up high compared to the seat and the space to sit was super narrow to the point that the table hit me above the breasts like a child's dinner seat. We would have asked for another space but all the tables were taken and also squeezed into tight spaces. Besides the torturous seating we also had pretty bad service. We waited about 15 mins to get our drink order put in, all the while a few servers stopped by to say they would be right with us; I wonder if they were playing the 1-2-3 NOT IT game. After ordering our drinks it took another 10-15 mins to get them, a member of our party saw them sitting at the bar while the waitress was no where to be found. Sure it was kinda busy that night but it was like no one wanted to work, many tables sat uncleaned while lines formed. The menu itself is way to expensive for the quality/service/location. The chips tasted bought and not freshly made. The salsa had far too much black pepper in it, a cop out for not flavorful enough salsa. The food itself was only ok, nothing really stood out. I'm not sure if there is just not enough Mexican food on this side of Bend or if the happy hour is a better deal or what but I would not recommend La Rosa to anyone coming in from out of town unless you like to eat dinner frustrated. read more

Seriously the best Mexican food I've ever had! I wish it was in our home town! We have come here every visit to Bend. We always order the fresh guacamole table side and ordered the Fruta Salad with Mango dressing and chicken as well as the shrimp fajitas. We split everything into two and still had leftovers. When I moved to Northwest Crossing in July of 2014, I'd walk up for dinner about once a week. The food, service and cocktails were excellent! For about a year and a half. Many years later (I've been 3 times in 2017) my meals were all very mediocre. one last attempt: I met friends there for dinner two weeks ago; but that was my last. Awful. Not sure if management or chefs have changed, but it's not what it was originally. Sad. read more

Reviews were kind of all over the map for this place, so we were concerned. But all three of us had great dinners . We started with a pitcher of Cadillac margaritas. Maybe not as smooth as some Cadillac margaritas we've had before. Still, a solid drink that didn't skimp on the tequila (thank goodness we were walking home). My buddy liked his chicken with rice, even though he noticed the rice was missing, which was fine with him, as it was really the chicken and sauce that had intrigued him. My other buddy got the basic burrito, with shredded chicken, which was very good. I went for the seafood burrito, which was also perfect. All in all, we had a great time, and the food while not full gourmet, was definitely a cut above the typical Mexican fair. Service was terrific. The busboy was right on top of things, and our waitress, for whom this was her first night, did a great job. We'll for sure be back. Our only real complaint was the canned mariachi music. Just a little too canned, and a little too loud. It made it a bit of a challenge to carry on a conversation. read more

I have heard great things about this restaurant, and was excited to try it out. Sadly, we found the service almost non-existent. We waited for our drinks for over 15 min, and the margaritas were awful. The salsa tastes like BBQ sauce, and my dinner was nothing like I ordered. My husband, 2 and 3 y.o. and myself went for nachos on a Sunday night. We waited about 20 minutes for a table, which wasn't a big deal, but once we sat down, it took at least 20 minutes for a server to greet us. It's as if we were in between two sections and both servers ignored us, until finally a server approach us to ask if we had ordered drinks yet. Normally, waiting wouldn't be a huge deal because we had the chips and salsa, but with two hungry toddlers, they were getting impatient. Also, because we had to wait so long, we removed one entree off our order because we were too full from chips! Once we got the nachos, 75% of the chips were really soggy--limp and mushy. Disappointing! You can't even pick them up! The flavoring they put on the chips and nachos is so-so. It's like a chipotle type seasoning. My husband liked it, but I didn't. It was too much. La Rosa is near our house so I'm bummed I can't go there for an authentic tasting nacho. read more

We took 4 adults to La Rosa on the westside. We checked in and were told it would be a 30 minutes which wasn't a problem but when we went to check on our table was told they had seated someone else. Service was horribly slow and we waited another 20 minutes for our server. We had to ask for chips and salsa, and utensils. Took forever to get our food and our server was very rude when we asked about it. Our food was maybe warm at best and not how the menu described the dish. Awful presentation, when you order fajitas and only get the toppings and platter and have to wait another 10 minutes for our tortillas......very embarrassed with our guests!!! read more

I came to Bend Oregon for a Visit from western Washington. I actually came downtown to get a haircut, but had to wait an hour and a half, so I decided to get some lunch while I waited. I decided on La Rosa and was very well pleased. It was honestly some of the best Mexican food I have had in a Long time, and I love Mexican food. Tacos are my staple. Which brings me to La Rosa. An offshoot of the successful but mediocre El Caporal chain, it is a boutique style Mexican cafe, with fairly high prices for said style. EERILY similar to HOLA! in many ways (or vice versa, as you read above), minus the fusion, it is no slouch in the food department. I love this place, though it is a bit expensive in the dinner department. And Guac made at your table is always a plus. Great drinks, too. I have recently found myself frequenting La Rosa fairly often, as I must eat Guacamole almost daily to retain my "Honorary Mexican" status. I have been frequenting the NEW La Rosa in Northwest Crossing, and I must say, there are fewer snobs there. And, I can happily report that on a recent Saturday night, it was moderately quiet. Lots of "Roadies" in there with their itty bitty T-rex arms and big legs, (local joke- Roadies vs. Mtn. Bikers, T-rex arms- HAH!), but I s'pose they gotta eat too! Just more rice cakes than the rest of us . . . (Roadies have a local rep as being snobbier than Mtn Bikers, for those who don't get the joke- and it's just humor, we like to pick on each other- no offense intended!) I felt it necessary to lower the snob rating to Medium from Medium High. And a decent margarita for $4.95? Priceless. And you have to try the jalapeño Margarita- minus the strawberry part. read more

So very disappointing... This used to be the best Mexican joint in town, especially when it was at its old location at the corner of College and Newport. I took family from out of town there this weekend relying on the memory of a great meal and great service. To begin, our first encounter with the procedure there was off. The hostess turned out to be our server who was perfectly friendly but it appeared management was cutting corners which proved true as our meal progressed, but I digress. She set up our booth, which we requested, and then returned to the lectern and told us to go the table instead of guiding us to it... weird. The booths are uncomfortably close to your body which makes you feel like a little kid; odd. Our drinks were ordered which were great; no problems there. Chips and salsa were excellent and fresh, tasty. Our dishes though... mine, especially was lacking so much... the Spanish rice was bland which was very surprising. Usually the rice in a Mexican restaurant is spiced and flavorful. Nope, not here. The beans were nothing special but I don't like refried beans anyway so I can't fault them for that. The Shredded Beef Enchildas Mexicanas I ordered were two small corn tortillas folded over half-wise with a skimpy amount of dry enchilada sauce covering them. A couple slices of avocado topped the dish off with a side of lettuce, pickled carrots and tomato. The rest of the family said their meal was good but I'm not sure if they were being honest... Not the reaction I had to the food when I first visited La Rosa so many years ago. I know the current owners are not the original owners from the previous location and they need to get their act together because customers from the previous incarnation are going to leave in droves if this continues. I give them props for having a trans-fat free menu (*except for the tamales!) but this is not the La Rosa of yesteryear. Very disappointed. We have been to this restaurant many times now and have never had a bad meal until this one. Such a shame since it was our son's last night out with us before returning to college. My son ordered his usual beef burrito, when he tasted it, he said it was watery and tasted like it came out of a can. This from a college student used to campus food. My burrito was only so so and I am quite happy I had already filled up on chips and guacamole. My husband's dinner was something totally different from what he had ordered, though it wasn't horrible, it didn't taste right and it will be a struggle to get him to go back again since he prefers one of the other competing Mexican restaurants across town. The waitress was frazzled due to the overwhelming amount of people inside and out with few servers. It took more than 15 minutes for my husband to get his beer for goodness sake. Crazy. The pan-seared, achiote-seasoned scallop in a roasted red-pepper sauce servered at the Ghost tree invitaional was absolutly fantastic could not have asked for a better dish. The line was well worth the wait thank you. You never disapoint. read more

My husband and I ate here with friends while vacationing in Bend this summer. The staff was friendly and helpful with menu recommendations as well as local events. We ordered margaritas a deep ruby color that was fantastic. Loved that they gave us the extra in a large glass as well. Our party ordered the Burrito de Marinero, a burrito stuffed with seafood and had a great creamy sauce, Arrachera, a skirt steak taco plate, and bacon wrapped shrimp with rice and sauteed veggies. The shrimp were a little dry having been fried ( would have preferred them baked) but the rice, beans, and veggies were the best we've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. I don't usually like these sides but these were delicious. We all felt the dishes were really good and tasted fresh. Portions were large and prices reasonable. We enjoyed our experience and will definitely go back. read more

I went here for the first time this weekend. I ordered the fajitas and my husband had the veggie enchiladas. I was not particularly impressed with La Rosa. My beer was warmer than I'm used to. Also, although my fajitas tasted authentic they were extremely bland. On a better note my husband thoroughly enjoyed the enchiladas. I had heard great things about the establishment which motivated me to try it but after my visit I cannot say I am too excited to return. read more

Worst service ever, My husband and I went here 9/21/2014 and there was about two other tables eating when we arrived for dinner. The hostess looked at us for about twenty seconds as if we were from another planet. I said can we get seated? She said oh sure. Then our waitress came about ten minutes later and told us she couldn't pronounce the menu items and was new. She seemed out of it, unhappy and weird. Long story short she didnt put tequilla in my margarita, didnt check on us, even though there were only a few other tables, not to mention about six employees wandering around and chatting. She brought the wrong tortillas and the food was mediocre. Definitely nothing compared to south cal mexican food. This establishment is run by white people , not something I enjoy when eating authentic mexican food, lacks real seasoning, chips are dry and tasteless, I could go on and on, the experience, the service and the bright glare from the sun, with no blinds on the windows all added to this bad rating. The only positive was the mexican waiter, who unfortunately was not our waiter, he was fast, friendly and helpful. I also had to chase down our waitress to pay because it was about twenty minutes after waiting at that point I wanted to leave. I do not recommend, go to Mazatlan in Redmond if you want authentic food for a cheaper price. This place is WAY overpriced , something else I forgot to mention. read more
