I love Italian food! It's so comforting on chilly winter nights, but I eat it anytime any season. The food tastes like home cooked food and always fresh! Its BYOB (love that, drinks are always overpriced at restaurants), there's a LQ store 2 stores down, convenient! Consistently amazing! I try other places but keep coming back. Have to at least try a slice or two of the Palermo Pie to start. Pasta dishes are always delicious. Shrimp scampi and clams oreganata are so good. All dinners come with a nice salad so it's definitely a filling dinner. One side is a typical looking pizza place but the other side is a nice resteraunt deserving of the quality of meal you will get. Definitely a winner. The pizza slices & types are awesome. The crust is thinner and crispier than most and the sauce is flavorful. No complaints there. The chicken and pasta and other dinner dishes are hit and miss. Their vodka sauce is a liquidy tomato heavy sauce. Service is good and premises is clean. read more

Nice first experience here. The atmosphere is somewhere between sit-down restaurant and counter service. They do have waitress service, but you know what I mean. Prices are not particularly low to make up for the somewhat lacking atmosphere. We were there on a snowy night, and there were newspapers scattered all over the floor, presumably to reduce the risk of anyone falling down. And they don't have fountain soda; they bring you a bowl of ice, glasses, and 20 oz. bottles. The menu generally has the usual selection of NJ Italian place stuff, although there were a few things on there I haven't seen before. The food quality is higher than you'll be expecting from how the place looks. Salad was made from mixed field greens instead of iceberg and topped with high quality olives and marinated mushrooms; bread is hot and crusty; entrees themselves were pretty good but not amazing. I had the chicken with broccoli rabe and pasta. I really enjoyed my entree, but I was a bit disappointed that the broccoli rabe was a little overcooked. Boyfriend said his stuffed flounder was very good. Waitress was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I might like it if they spruced the place up, but it might not be so easy to do without damaging the sort of homey, local place feel. A nice comfy spot. This review is overdue. I was prompted to write it after the horrible experience I just had at Mr. Bruno's in Lyndhurst. La Sicilia deserves 5 stars because the food is out of this world. I fell in love after my first bite of the Palermo. I went back that same week to see if the love was real . . . it was! You must try the eggplant. It melts in your mouth. The sauce that is served on the pasta accompanying the eggplant is the most delicious sauce I have ever tried. Decided to stay in town and give this place a try, not for pizza, but an actual dinner. The fried calamari were of the lowest grade, small, mostly tentacles. They came out overcooked and, for that reason, were tasteless and chewey. The entree, chicken giambotta, a disaster. The chicken was not the cutlet I'm used to see in every other restaurant, but rather a few nuggets with sausage and mixed veggies. That would not even be the problem..... again, the chicken was way overcoocked and chewy. Turned out to be a cash only place, no signage to warn you about that, you know only when you get the check. 1st time today, the outside looks like an average pizzeria, but the food was not so average. I had the escarole and bean soup, outstanding. I also had veal cutlet milanese sandwich with fresh mozz, super tasty, plentiful and delicious, I forced the whole thing down it was so good. The cold antipasto salad, had a great presentation, it was enough for 2 people, my other friend had a homemade Foccia sandwich that had grilled chicken and fresh mozz, which he added hot cherry peppers, also a great sandwich, came with pesto mayo that was good, it was nice that it was on the side, cause I could see it over powering that delicious foccia bread. We all topped off our meal with an espresso, and it was done right with a lemon twist on the side. I used to like this place because of the sauce. I'd go and pick up a pint of their marinara sauce. NOW I will never go again. I wish I didn't have to write this review but the business left me no choice. One night a little before closing I ordered pasta fagioli, a pie and a chicken parm dinner. I explicitly stated I wanted the pasta to be uber al dente. I say this every where I go. My order arrived relatively quickly. When it arrived it looks like the attached photos. Pizza smashed to the box and mush penne pasta. I called and told them. They told me theyd have a manager call me. I waited a day or so. I called back to tell them no one had called me. They kept saying the manager wasn't in every time I called. I went by a few days later and the manager wasn't there again. They even had my name and number pinned to a board because I had given it over the phone the day of the delivery. Still to this day I have not received a phone call or refund. read more

Finally tried the palermo pie. Horrible excuse for a "grandma" pie. Zero cheese under sauce, cold sauce, soggy wet middle and hard stale crust that was pre baked, hours old. Just hard dough topped with sauce. Would have been better off buying a loaf of bread and dipping in a side of marinara sauce. I called in the order, they told me 15 minutes and I was there in about 10 minutes and it was already sitting on top of the oven. I know pizzas take longer than 10 minutes to properly cook. Picked up and only live 5 min away, opened boxes when I got home it had no warmth to it at all. Also ordered a regular cheese pie, same thing, no hotness to it at all, soggy undercooked middle. The food took a little longer than normal because of the holiday and so many orders but the server was sure to check in on us and update us on the time frame. The palermo pie is off the chain. The top layer of the pie is actually the sauce, not cheese, and it's the true standout element of the pie; a much welcome change from the typical cheese-on-top pizza we eat. I would love to say that the the sauce is better than what my mom makes, but we're Filipino and we don't really venture into Italian cooking. The crust is on the thinner side and crispy which makes the sauce stand out even more. I've also had the chicken parm dish. The chicken actually was not breaded as I've been accustomed to, but it made the dish taste much better in that it was less greasy than what the typical Italian place will serve. Underneath the chicken was bed of spaghetti with red gravy which was leaps and bounds better than the typical side pasta dish you get at a place like this. This is my favorite local Italian place and I haven't even dined in the restaurant yet. I have been a patron of this place since moving into the neighborhood a little over 1 year ago and while the food is pretty good the service has declined over the last several visits. On Friday I went to pick up some slices for myself and my girlfriend and while waiting the kid behind the counter, Joseph as per the name he gave me later, seemed to be rushing me to lay beige with got my order. I have never had an issue paying as soon as I get my order but he seemed to be una fairly elevated state of hurry. I understand it was Friday night and they were busy busy busy with incoming orders for delivery and pickup but a little decent customer service I so t think is too much to ask for. When I told him I'd wait for my order to be ready to pay he mumbled something to which I reiterated that I would wait for my order to be ready to pay as I have always done without incident. After the second time letting him know I would wait he proceeded to turn to walk away and disrespectfully waved his hand in the air as if I was bothering him with my request. I immediately cancelled my ordered and left before I grabbed a chair and turned the windows into shattered glass all the place. Absolutely 100% unappreciated to be treated as an afterthought when I just patiently waited out of the way. This wasn't the first time "Joseph" has had some kind of problem with me. I've had him tell me they had no slices and I would have to wait for a fresh pie when there were clearly slices out for sale right in front of me. I'm not sure who he thinks I am, may e confused that I am someone else he has beef with, but this last time was the last time I'm putting up with that level of disrespect. Great little hole in the wall type of pizza parlor with awesome food and great pizza. We actually have them cater the antipasto tray for the holidays because theirs is the real deal. It's BYOB, there's a liquor store right next door, and the parking is on street or in a municipal lot- ample, regardless. Best delivery pizza in the neighborhood hands down!! I have only ordered the palermo pizza, but it's amazing. The sauce is fresh, chunky, and full of garlic. They deliver is quick! Couple of tips, they are a CASH ONLY business so don't roll up there with just a credit card. Other thing, they don't have menus to give out. That is one of the reasons I have only ordered the palermo pie. There are pictures on here that show the menu, but I cannot see it very clearly.
