I was craving a Brooklyn upside pizza, but I can't seem to find a restaurant in this area that makes it. Then someone recommended La Sicilia and their Palermo Pie. So, I gave it a go. I checked their reviews and saw photos of the pie. In some photos, the pie looks thick, well prepared, and not over cooked or messy; but in other photos the pie looked think, burnt, and unable to pick up with your hands. Well, guess which pie I got? The pie was thin, all the edges were burnt and the middle just fell apart and not edible. Very disappointing. After trying many pizzerias in the area, I can definitely say this is one of the best if not the best in the area. Their pizzas are super fresh and flavorful, and the crust isn't too thin or too thick. My husband loves their mozzarella sticks also. The prices are very reasonable, i.e.: $9 for a small plain pie. I have lived in New Jersey all of my life - this is one of the most delicious restaurants I've ever found. The food is always fresh, the staff serves it with courtesy and humor, the communal tables make it one of the friendliest places in the state. My partner and I moved to Belleville about 6 years ago. We didn't know anyone or have any preconceived notions (other than a lot of people told us their grandparents had lived here)! He is very picky about Italian cooking as his grandmother was from Italy and was a great cook. He also lived in Italy for a while. La Sicilia was an instant success with both of us and has remained so for 6 years. My favorite dish is the eggplant parm, but all the food is cooked with care and quality. The soups are amazing as is the sauce (or "gravy"). I consider this restaurant an important part of my community. Paulina, Patty and Patty are friendly and intelligent wait-staff. The bus-boys are gracious, smart and part of the "family". The owners/managers are there and available. You'd have to really bring a cloud in with you not to have a wonderful experience at La Sicilia!! read more

This place was once good with the original owner. Ever since he sold it to the younger generation, all they care about is "volume" and screw the rest. Lately food quality has diminished substantially and cost has risen tremendously. Before when ordered any dish, it came with pasta, now they charge you extras. Took me by surprised! Ordered a Sicilian pie- half with sausage pepper & half plain. It was on the expensive side- $22. The pizza was HUGE and very thick. Each slice was equivalent to about 3 Normal slices... I'm constantly on the hunt for the perfect lasagna. Now, I don't know if this lasagna was the best I've ever had but it definitely made Top 3. I don't even know that the other two are coz my childhood as a Filipino centered on the Stouffer's lasagna and for some reason I love that stuff. So yeah, this lasagna was so good, I ate every last bite. The lasagna is not small. It is a huge slice of perfectly cooked, seasoned, yummy lasagna. I definitely recommend this place not just coz of the lasagna but because it is BYOB, packed by old school Italian families from the area which is a testament to the food, the staff is super friendly and the food is delicious (needs to be repeated). My friend killed his plate of chicken francese. I didn't ask for a bite but since he cleaned his plate, I'm guessing he enjoyed his food. I tried the Palermo so all I can speak of is that. And I am very critical of Margherita style pizza. This is an inverted version; moz first then sauce, some garlic and parm. It was good, but all I was left with was a sauce-heavy thin-crusted pie. I was surprised this took top honors for a thin crust by The Star Ledger's Munchmoblile pizza tour. You do get a good amount of it for $14 however - a huge square pie. I'm spoiled with the pizzerias in the Verona/Caldwell area; seek out Frank Anthony's, Rusillo's and Forte and you'll see the difference. read more

If you've ever had a square pie like this Sicilian style like L&B in Brooklyn ,( with the cheese on the bottom and sauce on top ) then you will love it . Just moved to the area and used Yelp to find a great Italian Restaurant/Pizza. All favorable reviews for this fabulous restaurant were correct and "understated". The Palermo Pizza is Amazingly Delicious, the Homeade Fusilli Pomodoro was Perfect and the Ecarole & Beans was like Grandma's! The management went out of their way and actually delivered "just a menu" to assist with food selection. Delivery time was excellent with superior personnel to represent the restaurant. This is without a doubt my favorite place to get quick quality italian cuisine in our area. The pizza is a fantastic rendition of an old school tomato pie. All of thier parmigiano, marsala, and francaise entrees are some of my top favorites and are deliciously on point. The seafood is cooked beautifully and although not the most voluptuous in size the shellfish are packed with flavor and the right amount of heat. The pasta is cooked to perfection and you are always served with an appreciable amount. Thier tripe was the best and most hearty I had ever eaten in takeout. I placed an order for pick-up and when I went to pick-up the food, I noticed I was over charged. I thought maybe it was tax. Well when I got home and opened the plate of food, it was the completely wrong order. I called back saying they gave me the wrong order and was over charged they said they would deliver me the right order and give me my money back. I got the food but never received the money, driver had no idea about the refund. I do not know what the hype is about this place. The food was ok, I was not impressed. Hands down the best pizza in Belleville. I really like their everything pizza because it's prepared with a lot of toppings but the bottom of the pizza doesn't become soggy and fold over like it does at many other places. This place is one of my favorites for Italian. Where do I start? The pizza is very interesting. I love it even though it's not brick oven. It's a Sicilian with a thin crust and the source is on top of the cheese . Next the pasta is homemade and is over-the-top. This San Remo dish is the best. The veal is OK but not my favorite. We have lived in this town for over 5 years and just recently started ordering from here again (I guess they are under new ownership) and the new food is excellent. The only accept cash so make sure you have that ready for delivery. So far we have ordered the grandma pie which is delicious, the Focaccia sandwich which is to die for and the home made lasagna which was also good according to my boyfriend. Let me just start by saying the food doesn't taste bad, but forget trying to order your food and it coming out to the order you asked for. I ordered a MEAT tortellini alfredo but still got a CHEESE!!! Then the MEAT LOVERS pie but yet still got a CHEESE pie. Which on the one hand he was at least willing to redo the alfredo which he originally swore was only available in CHEESE until he looked at the menu. In regards to the pie, he refused to accept the fact he took the order wrong and said that's what I order simply because that what he charged me for. First time ordering and I give this place a strong 3. I ordered 1 cheese pie and 1 meat lover and a stuffed hot pepper to try. My daughter,who is 7, and I enjoyed the meat lovers pizza. Not amazing but good. I have no idea what the pepper was supposed to look or taste like but it was burnt and it hardly had stuffing in it.
