Stephen the admin comes with experience and will take time to introduce himself and answer concerns. The building is older, but clean and well maintained. You actually see patients awake and out of their rooms. The surrounding area feels safe and parking is accessible. There's a certain stigma that surrounds nursing homes, but a short term stay with the right people can get your quality of life back. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that worked with us.

Instead it felt rushed the entire time. I had an appointment with Joe, who although was nice just rushed through the initial assessment and then went straight to working on my neck. He then explained he would put me on heat and go over some stretch's and left the room. He never came back, no "it was nice meeting you", "an assistant will be in", "I'll see you next time" nothing, he just left and then an assistant came in with the heating pad and later to go over the stretches. The appointment wasn't bad but It felt rushed the entire time as if he just needed to get to the next appointment and move things along. I decided the place wasn't for me.

She showed us ways of moving toward different levels of care and even pointed out the County of Merced program that helps with free care and helps evaluate their needs. Since there is a two week wait normally, Amie Marchini's outside staff can fill in until then at $35 per hour, as needed. She spent two hours with us and really counseled us to a much nicer place mentally, as my wife was having a hard time with anxiety over all of this with both parents. When we finally met him, we told him about her heart condition and medication and we waved us off and said "I don't do cardiology." WTH? It was all worse from there on. Imagine you have to live here for 4+ straight weeks and the food is not good and cold. What a nightmare. Always lukewarm to cold. One night we were visiting, tacos were the meal. That might sound great but considering my MIL is hardly sitting up, taco guts were spilling all over her. Also keep in mind, these are not delicious street tacos but bland, tasteless no spice no salsa tacos. Come on, at least feed these people temperature appropriate, tasty food. She wasn't on a dietary restricted plan, but I imagine the dietary plan might have been "only cold, terrible food." Next complaint is Physical Therapy. Somehow the PT person is never there, or accidentally skipped us or any other excuse. And now a compliment to the nurses. Most of the nurses were great, friendly, helpful. Care quality with the nurses was typically pretty good. Another compliment was the transportation. Golden was ultimately chosen for the included transportation on her insurance. That was great. Transport took her back and forth to dialysis. The problem is, once she is back to the facility, all is terrible again. No PT, horrible cold food, no Dr. to speak of, and a roommate that blasts the volume on her TV. Dr. 1 star, food 1 star, PT 1 star, nurses 3 stars. It's sad and disappointing, especially the food situation. At least give these poor old folks decent food. Something could have been done better. Where the hell is the Dr. in this place?

If you've ever wondered what it's like to go to prison, go and stay at golden Merced care. Firstly,…read morethe photos on here are laughable. That nurses station is just one. The room pictured is accurate for only 30% of the rooms in the facility. The others are terribly old and shabby and they pack THREE people in the other 70%. Not one of the 3 TVs in our loved one's room works. Each morning, our loved one wakes at 6am (We sent our loved one there because we were promised PT 5x/week, OT 3-4x/week and speech therapy 2-3x/ week. The PT is mostly happening at that frequency but not the others). Despite waking at 6am, our loved one has to wait at least 3 hours before somebody will take her to the bathroom. Several of the staff have flat out said, "go in your diaper and we will change you when we have time" imagine being told that. While you're recovering from a stroke. Your life is cruising along fine then poof you have a strobe and end up with 1/2 of your body paralyzed and find yourself in a prison setting like this place. One of the roommates poops their diaper at least once a day and my loved one (and us on several occasions) gets to enjoy the aroma while waiting for staff to come and deal with it. 30 minutes at least. Our loved one has lost 16 pounds in a month of staying here. The food is simply shameful. Canned green beans, powdered eggs, "pudding" that looks like gel. This is not healthy food for people dealing with strokes, brain injuries and the like. We make and bring food often and it gets stolen if we leave it in her drawer (expensive protein bars and jerky, so don't tell me they were worried it was rotten) things get taken from her daily. Clothes, personal items, you name it. Everything she wears or has is covered with her name in sharpie. So she can't even enjoy comforts from home or they get stolen while she's at PT or taking one of the 2 showers a week they are given. The physical therapists are INCREDIBLE people and many on the nursing staff are as well. One male attendant coos creepily to our female loved one, "do you need me to check if your diaper is wet honey?" Pretty sure anyone would know if they've gone in their own diaper. The halls are jammed with people parked in wheelchairs in various states of consciousness. There're always one or two pleading or yelling loudly without any signs of concern from the staff. This is my first experience with a facility like this and I must say I'd rather die than stay in one if this is the standard. These people are being treated like subhumans. Its shameful. The owners should be deeply ashamed of themselves putting profit over our parents and grandparents.
