Some of the best Italian food around. Very happy with the Calzone - just the right balance of cheeses. It is very hard to choose from their menu as their chicken wings are the very best I have found. They are the true Buffalo wings. Service was good. Decor is not exciting but the atmosphere was quiet and you could have a good conversation and not leave feeling that you have had to fight the noise the whole time you were there. Service was good. From the outside not sure which door to enter and the place needs a good refresh as it is old and drab. When you walk in the overwhelming smell of basil and marinara is amazing. I was excited to taste the food. The place was aged. The carpet all stained and the TV's on the wall had wires and boxes hanging from the back. We passed 5 tables all dirty. We sat at a booth the table was sticky and the booth springs you could feel as you sat. Spider webs at the windows inside. The waiter was pleasant and attentive. The wings were huge and meaty but the thick yellow fat was a turn off but understand it's a preference thing. The pizza sizes were strange 10", 16" & 18" wow! We are 2 people so we had to get the 16" and it was huge. If I had ordered a pizza to go I would have given 4.5 stars. However, the owner needs to spend a little money cleaning up the place. I walked to the back dining room. Before leaving and every table I touched was sticky. The kind of sticky that is the clear coat breaking down- they just needed to be redone. Very uncomfortable sitting there and eating. The bathroom smelled of urine from the outside so I didn't even touch the door. There were only 2 wait staff there as previously mentioned in other reviews not enough. There is a bar area but we didn't go. The food and service were both very disappointing. The Caesar salad was soggy, the garlic knots were dry, and the spinach manicotti tasted acidic, and did not taste fresh. The food was served in sloppy manner. To top it off, the margherita pizza made my husband and me sick. Shout out to Mike's Pizza and Pasta- - 803 Spartanburg Hwy in Hendersonville, NC! With all of the stress with the wildfries, smoke and Code Purple air quality.... pizza sounded like the perfect comfort food. So off we went to Mike's Pizza and Pasta for lunch on Thursday. We each had a small side salad to start. My Caesar salad was absolutely delicious! Loved their creamy dressing that was mixed in with crisp romaine, a nice amount of shaved Parmesan and crispy croutons. My husband, Terry Bozon enjoyed his side House Salad. Another thing also we liked is their salad bowls were served with a small plate underneath. Usually when you are trying to neatly mix dressing in, everything is falling everywhere and quite often a grape tomato notoriously escapes and bounces to the floor. We know what a mess that can be! Having that plate underneath helps and is a nice touch so thank you to Mikes for that! Now onto our amazing pizza! We ordered a 16" pizza so we can have leftovers. We asked if they could do an olive oil, garlic base instead of sauce. "Absolutely!" So our pizza with an olive oil- garlic base, half pepperoni and half mushroom was ordered! We're from upstate NY where they have really great pizza, so we are pizza-picky. When our pizza came out of Mike's kitchen our eyes widened! Wow! Very, very nice! Plus it was huge! We had to sit back and admire it. The pizza had generous amount of delicious pepperoni and mushrooms, placed on just right. A perfect thin layer of delicious melted, oooey- gooey cheese. No stinginess from the kitchen at Mike's Pizza at all, they are very generous. This pizza was amazing! The top was glistening with the right amount of oily goodness ...not too much, not too little...it was just right and is EXACTLY how we like our pizza! Their crust was perfect! Hand-tossed and nicely thin...they can go thinner if you want or they may even be able to go thicker. Ask Earl, who I will talk about in a minute. It had the perfect chew, tender, light and slightly crisp all in one pizza! SO incredibly flavorful, seasoned just right with just the perfect amount of ...EVERYTHING! A thin yet sturdy crust with super nice, slightly airy thin edges. The bottom was nicely crisp and browned just right. The pizza is foldable too if you are into that...me, I am a Miss Priss, so I use a knife and fork. Yasssss I know...sacrilege! My hubby just picks up a slice and eats it. We enjoyed our pizza so much that we asked our waitress to please tell the kitchen how delicious their pizza was and to give them a round of applause from us. We loved this delicious pizza that much! A nice man named Earl came out to talk to us. Earl knows pizza, has had the right training and he knows how makes it right. (In our conversation, he may have mentioned something about Italy too). He is true Pizza-Man! So hats off and Bravo to you Earl! (If you go there M-F, be sure to ask for Earl to make your pizza, otherwise he's at their Brevard Location. ) Our waitress was amazing too, super friendly and very attentive. The last time I had the chicken wings they were nice and meaty and if you have a minute and drink pop in the bar and get a beer while you wait on your food overall great neighborhood spot. Before I went to teach the other day, I decided to drop in and have a nice lunch. The service is always been great, the place clean, but nothing fancy, but their food is always great. I ended up having their Greek salad, with their homemade Greek dressing and a side of garlic knots. The salad was so huge. I had to take half of it home and one of the garlic knots. Always great pizza and service! Staff is always pleasant , attentive & helpful. The subs are another story. I've had an Italian sub, it's not memorable. Recently I stopped in for a philly cheesesteak. I was not impressed at all and if not hungry, would have thrown it away. I don't know what kind of beef they use, it just doesnt taste good for a philly cheese steak. The whole sandwich felt greasy. That bread from Italy is very good on it's own, but that's the last sub I'll order from there. They have a bar menu that looks pretty good though and I'll go back to try items on it. Nothing fancy, nothing pretentious. This is just a simple restaurant with an excellent variety of freshly made Italian dishes. I most recently took a neighbor here for the first time and she was delighted with the food and service. The portions are so generous that we were able to have two more meals from our leftovers. She kept raving about the delicious homemade sauces and I concur. They are obviously fresh and authentically home made. There is ample parking right in front in their own lot. The restaurant is clean and is always seasonally decorated. There is no romantic ambience-no dim lighting, no secluded corners, no candles--just really good Italian dishes, served piping hot and quickly. My family has been eating here for a long time. It was Pro's Pizza then it became Mike's. Our usual meal is pizza and wings. We love their wings! Big, meaty, and cooked extra crispy, just how we like them! Lots of sauce to get all over your face and hands. We also enjoy the pizza. It's always fresh and hot. We usually get our food to go. The toppings are a bit sparse and the canned mushrooms are not so good but overall, a good pie. I haven't been inside for a long time. I sure hope they have spruced up the dining room. But any time there was an issue with our order, they always made it right. Happily those instances are rare. So yes, I recommend Mike's Pizza. read more

An absolute disaster. We were there as a Church group of 20+. Not staffed to serve a large group with eratic and confused service. A chef from the kitchen came out yelling and swearing at the group to such an extent that the entire group walked out. The experience was totally unacceptable. Absolutely would not recommend for dine in service. We walked in at 6:30pm, and there were 5 tables in the entire place. We walked in with two children, one of which is disabled in a wheelchair, and were assured we would be easily accommodated. They found us a table, but the service and food quality were beyond questionable. Firstly, we waited 90 minutes for pizza, and staff did not even wear masks throughout our entire meal. The owner, Mike, apologized for the inconvenience and explained his kitchen just gets so backed up due to go orders. Just a tip, I would recommend closing your dining room if you cannot keep up with the 8 tables inside. To close, the owner never even offered a discount or to comp an item for our troubles. Just got back from Mike's and I must say it was the worst pizza I ever had. We ask for additional toppings of sausage, mushrooms, and onnions. We may have gotten some but for the most part the additional toppings were not visible. The pizza crust was burnt and had no flavor at all . The best thing about the pizza was the sweet peppers. They claim they are the best Pizza in Hendersonville but are experience was they are the worst. If you want to go there check your pizza out before you eat and send it back if not done properly done. Milk Bone Dog Biscuit have more flavor than Mike's pizza crust. read more

As a regular customer who has eaten at Mike's at least 25 times the food & service over the last several months has gone steadily downhill. First the prices have gone up significantly. Example, the Manicotti dish I order has gone up a few dollars plus they now add an extra $2.99 surcharge for tomato cream sauce even though the menu for the item DOES NOT say so. When I questioned this they refused to take the surcharge off. Plus they cut down on the portion and there was virtually no cream sauce on the dish. The waiter, when I complained acknowledged that has been a problem but did nothing about it. Plus two of the female waitresses have been especially rude and one was fired. Additionally they serve the salad dressing in a tiny cup so u need more and charge if u ask for more. Also they charge $3.50 for a soda at a place that is hardly upscale. Several times we have even had to send the dishes we ordered back because they have not been cooked properly. This was our go to family Italian restaurant for quite a while but no more. Just too many unsatisfactory meals and too many unresolved complaints. Time to look elsewhere read more

Drive by here daily on my commute from Hville to Tryon. I decided to give it a try. Place was empty at 645 which had me a bit worried. I shouldn't have been. I've been searching for an Italian place that uses lots of garlic and has fresh tasting sauce. I always try a place's spaghetti and meatballs. I found heaven at Mikes! Wow! Garlic knots were excellent. House salad fresh. The spaghetti and sauce had perfect flavor and the meatballs were huge, very tender, very tasty. I had plenty to take home for the next day. My husband and I order from here a lot, probably too much but anyways... I requested 8 wings and wanted flats, I don't like drums. I guess that's a big no no there, the girl that answered the phone said there was no way she could do that and the owner wouldn't approve that request. We spend probably 200 every month or so and always tip 20% even on take out orders. The girl made no effort to ask. 4 flats just cost them 200 plus a month and a loyal customer. Hope it was worth it. Not the best or worse pizza I have ever had/ the white pizza was pretty bland but the crust was good. My mother in law had a burger and she said it had no taste- plus it came with a BAG of chips v. Fries- weak! I enjoyed my Greek side salad. The service was really good and personable. I just wasn't a huge fan of the pizza or atmosphere- it was more like a family pizzeria from the 70's than a place to have some good microbrews and pie. I found the atmosphere to be rather cold and not warm and welcoming like an Italian restaurant should be- dining room was pretty sparse with uncomfortable chairs- I am also not a huge fan of buffet restaurants either and this one has a buffet during the week. read more

This was a great find, so happy we came across this in YELP. The spaghetti with meat sauce added was very tasty. We even had leftovers and not certain - but we feel it was even tastier then if that was possible. The spaghetti being a dinner came with a side salad and garlic knots (or bread if you prefer) and both were very good "what a deal!" The personal size supreme pizza was very good - the crust has a great flavor. The middle was slightly soggy but we believe it was due to the veggies on the pizza and I wouldn't want my crust over done. We were very happy they had options to eat in - great relief as some restaurants having fully resumed. Definitely looking forward to going back again : ) read more

Let's just say in our 5 day stay in Hendo, we got Mike's 3 of the days. They have a solid menu and everything we ordered was good. Some dishes are better than others I will say - the chicken parm got rave reviews from our group - but I really enjoyed the eggplant parm myself. The chicken Alfredo was pretty good but missing something special and wasn't really too good for leftovers. The pizzas are also unique and tasty. Lasagna was another "pretty good" rating. DO. NOT. EAT. HERE. I've been a customer for several years. The first time I ate there, I ordered mild wings. What I got was so spicy I could not eat them, so I asked for a different batch. The owner comes out and after I have to explain to him again what was wrong he says exactly this: "OH, I'm sorry those are too hot. You want me to go make you some pu**y wings?" Now the old man left, then the son left and now there is some manager there named Denny or Manny or something, the quality of both the pizzas and the italian food have gone not just down but to levels that would be comical if not so sad. Read on, dear diner, my tale of woe. I ordered fettucini alfredo with chicken and an extra side of sauce. While waiting I ordered a pint of beer. The waitress returned with an empty glass and said "your pitcher will be here in a moment." "I did not order a pitcher, I ordered a pint of Blond ale." "We do not serve pints, only pitchers." I held up my glass, "this is a pint glass, for pouring pints of beer." "OHHHHHH hahahahah I don't do the alcohol so" WTF? Ok, onto the food. I get my food, pay, go home. What I opened was spaghetti noodles in (a little) milk with some oregano on top. Neither fettucini nor alfredo sauce. Not even canned alfredo. This was like 2% milk, utterly flavorless. FOR $16.00+!!!!!!! SO i pack it up and take it back to ask for a refund. I sit with the manager and show/explain this and ask him for a refund. He apologizes and goes into the back. 15 minutes later he comes back out and says this to me: "I'm sorry, I don't know how to do a cash back return and I DON'T WANT TO CALL THE OWNER RIGHT NOW so I'm giving you 15$ out of my own pocket. (which was not even the full amount). He literally said exactly that to me after the situation that just unfolded. Maybe it's just me, take this advice as you will. I've worked in restaurants before and cannot imagine getting away with any of this. I would have been fired, as should the waitress and the chef, on the spot. DISGUSTING excuse for a restaurant. GO. To sum up my long review, poor service, a childlike owner, microwaved food from Sam's club, and explosive diarrhea. After reading the other 1 star reviews, this visit seems to be the norm, and not the exception. Our group of 8 was basically ignored for the first 30 mins, when it came time to order the waitress was quiet clear that the check could not be separated at that time, that would have to be dealt with when the bill was paid. Another 30 mins we are asked to "verify our order" because of a miscommunication in the back, and again later for the third time we were asked to repeat the order just to make sure everything was put in correctly. I'm not going to talk about the wait staffs cheery personality or their ability have a meaningful conversation, because these traits were apparently not in the staffs arsenal of customer service tools. The food comes at about hour and half wait, well most of it, one gentleman's meatballs were still in the microwave. (The servers words not mine) but at least they took a little while they were still cold to get them to us quicker. The garlic knots were as under cooked as the owners personality. Baked spaghetti that didn't stay in the microwave long enough to melt the sliced cheese used to hide its dignity. A salad was put on the table that seemed to scare the women, at least they got the nerve to pick it over before covering it with a napkin like a deceased pet rat. At some point the owner asks how the meal is, after barely hearing the start of the problems his irritation overwhelmed him and he offers a discount that about covers the cost of the sodas. After 2 hours of starving, listening to a small child from another group moaning from both ends in the bathroom from gastrointestinal trauma, the food that could be eaten was eaten. Now the waitress returns, not to refill drinks for the first time, (yea apparently refills are to much to expect during a short two hour visit, but to ask someone to help her figure out the separate checks. (The ones that were to hard to do any of the three times she took the order). When the checks finally arrived the owners attention was requested once again. There is not a problem paying for the food that was edible, but no one felt the need to pay for food that was not edible nor service that was not given. But before we could discuss much of anything with him he balls up like a three year old and says "how about he just comp the whole meal and we never come back to his restaurant." Then stomped off behind a slammed door not allowing further discussion. I am unsure of their health department rating, but judging by the series of small to medium explosions starting in their restroom and covering two states and multiple rest areas and 1 guardrail, I can only assume the food handling procedures leaves as much to be desired as their customer service skills Basically this food ripped the guts out of two truck drivers who eat truckstop roller hotdogs for a living. read more
