Pre-COVID this place was a wonderful, old school Italian restaurant with great service, food and drinks but my recent experience was not. First the positive, the marinara sauce was the best and my pasta was cooked well. The female waitress was helpful and had a nice sense of humor. The most jarring thing to me were the additional male servers/bussers and how they approached the table and served the meal. Forget "lady's first" service here. They would approach one side of the table, serve the men and then hand the plates across the table and expected me to take the dish from them instead of placing it in front of me. This happened with my drink, appetizer and salad. When the hot dishes came out, they served three people (including me) and then leaned across me, my plate of food and bumped in to me repeatedly to serve the person to my right. I was nearly hit in the face twice by a very large male server. There was a young, angry male server who repeatedly exhaled loudly and was annoyed when we asked for anything. Next the food was not very good. The appetizer of mozzarella en carozza was super eggy tasting, undercooked and I don't know how but dry and mushy at the same time. The salad was served on a hot plate and the tiny bit of dressing on the salad had melted to the bottom of the bowl. The entree of pasta was good. I passed on dessert because I was frustrated by how the other food was served. We were not asked if we wanted more drinks but they did refill our water glasses repeatedly. My husband and I have been coming to this restaurant for many many years. we know that it changed ownership. but we still decided to give it a shot even though we weren't going to see vinny at the door. we found that the menu was actually cut in half none of our favorites were on it anymore. chicken marsala was OK it was kind of bland it's what you would get at a pizzeria. my husband ordered the spaghetti carbonara which we had to send back because it was a big bowl of mush. he then didn't know what else to get because the menu was so small he got the chicken Parmesan which was overcooked and terrible. needless to say it's a shame that the restaurant turned into the way it did we will not be back. We've been to La Strada several times before and have always enjoyed both the food and the service. Based on those previous visits they deserve a four-star rating. Unfortunately for us, tonight's experience was two stars at best. Every restaurant has an off night, and unfortunately for us, this was one of La Strada's. Our server was clearly overwhelmed. He was both friendly and professional, but the restaurant was filled to capacity and they were also hosting a banquet. Every item, from an extra piece of lemon to the forgotten salad dressing had to be requested several times. The food itself was also less enjoyable than on previous visits. Nothing was bad, but one dish was overcooked, one dish was cold and one was missing a key ingredient. Again, I attribute this to it being an off night and a kitchen that must have been as overwhelmed as the wait-staff. We certainly plan to return with hopes that they will return to form. Our good experiences here certainly justify a second chance. Hopefully, the management will read this and know that some changes need to be addressed, and be better prepared for those evenings when their regular service coincides with a large banquet. read more

We haven't been to La Strada in a long time, (they are too pricey for anything except special occasions) but we fondly remember many wonderful dinners we had there with family and friends, over the years. Boy have they changed! Our reservations were made on-line (obviously), so I could make a special request regarding timing - IN WRITING. We had to leave by 6:30, having 7:00PM tickets. Our main course came out at 6:30 (?!!!) Now, the food: the stuffed artichokes were the canned, marinated kind (?!), the home-made rigatoni pasta, stuffed with cheese and beef was the NOT home made, dehydrated, store-bought rigatoni, not stuffed with anything, in a half-assed Bolognese souse. The medium well fillet mignon, for my 75 year-old mom, came out RAW (?!!) and our server was nowhere to be found (??!!!!) The other food was nothing special, halibut overcooked - not good. I feel like I threw $300.00 in the toilet, and my brother's birthday was ruined. I will not go back. read more

Been to La Strada twice. I've been to many Italian restaurants in NYC as well as Hudson, Essex, Morris, Bergen and Monmouth Counties. La Strada is absolutely one of the best, if not THE best. I never expected to find this gem in the middle of nowhere on sleepy Route 10, but there it is! Wine list and wines by the glass are reasonably priced and offer great quality. The St. Francis cabernet at $14 a glass is outstanding. Stuffed mushrooms were large and the sausage stuffing is perfect. Minestrone was nicely seasoned with fresh vegetables. Veal and chicken parm dinners were excellent. Quality meat, nicely seasoned sauce. Seafood Fra Diavolo was the best I have ever eaten. Pasta dishes are just the right texture. Tiramisu was one of the best I have ever had. Waiters were friendly and courteous. I cannot say enough good things about La Strada. Plan to return many times. read more

I've been coming here for years and have NEVER had anything close to a bad dish. Dress code standards have been dumbed down a bit which disappointed me. The menu was a "special holiday" menu which was not mentioned online at all Very little Italian Christmas Eve items Our waiter Nick was less then enthusiastic in trying to accommodate us He rolled his eyes every time we ask for something and would tell us that he would let the bus boy know like the whole thing was way beyond him. I've been going here for years ! I always go on my anniversary. The food here is very Good! My husband and I really enjoy the meat and pasta selections. I love the risotto with filet Mignon. I've passed this place many times but this is my first visit. I went with a dining group I am a member of and it was a party of six couples. My first impression was oh there is valet parking! I noticed that the lot was filled with cars....always a good sign! Once inside, the interior was darkish with "stressed" or weathered walls, light sconces and in the corner a man playing the piano. Very old Italian decor with big wine bottles, fancy crystal lamps....... The service.....we had a big party so the service was good but very slow considering we got drinks, appetizers and then our dinners. People were coming and going around us and I ended up eating way more bread than I liked. On to the food - excellent......this is Northern Italian fare. First, we had bread baskets and butter put on the table. Both white and wheat bread were in the basket and, of course, I tried both waiting for my appetizer to arrive. For my appetizer, I had gazpacho soup - cold tomato soup. Ok. So the last time I had gazpacho was about 15 years ago and I remember it as having chucks of tomato and onions and other sort of unindentifiable things in it. Nevertheless, good. This soup I had last night was smooth.......cold smooth, not chunky soup with cheese and I think asparagus in it. I was expecting a bit more of an oniony taste to it and well....this was not quite what I expected but it was good. Tasty but I didn't expect it to be quite so creamy...... Our next course was house salad which came with vinigrette dressing. I was pleased with my salad. The leaves were not too crisp but nicely seasoned with dressing and there were big chunks of tomato and cucumber throughout. Finally, our dinners arrive!! I ordered a shrimp dish which came in a creamy sauce with mushroom and dried tomato along with a side of some sort of potato roll and julienned veggies of squash and carrots. It was out of this world good..........but the portion was not really that large I thought. I would return here but next time with a much smaller group. I would like to try this again. Had a wonderful dinner here with friends last night! The atmosphere is a bit outdated (your typical "old" Italian restaurant) and was a bit too loud for my liking. But what the ambiance lacked, the food certainly made up for! The service was a bit slow at first, which we found a little off-putting, but eventually appreciated as it gave us time to relax, enjoy our meal, and catch up with friends. The service was wonderful. Our waiter was great and greeted us with the longest list of (memorized) specials I have ever heard. We started our meal with the Calamari and the Burrata special. The Burrata was AMAZING!!! The Calamari was surprisingly (and disappointingly) fairly flavorless, as was the marinara that accompanied it. For my entree, I ordered the Pollo Sorrentina. It was DELICIOUS; the chicken was cooked perfectly! My husband and I shared one of the dessert specials (The Espresso Bean Tartufo) which was also fantastic! My wife and I had dinner tonight at La Strada and had great experience . We requested outdoor seating since it was a perfect night. The appetizers were very good but entrees exceptional. I had blackened swordfish and it had to be the best piece of fish I've ever had. Moist and flavorful. My wife had scallops and they were cooked perfectly. I went there a while ago with my husband for our anniversary at the recommendation of quite a few acquaintances. The older gentleman who greeted us was not very friendly and helpful. We went to the bar first and the bartender was not friendly as at all, felt as if we were a bother to him. He wanted me to order wine, but i wanted a cocktail, he walked away with his nose in the air. The drink was watered down, not good at all. My husband got the wrong drink, too. Once we were in the restaurant, the service was impeccable. Salads were fresh and the food was decent. However, the experience at the bar soured or experience. My girlfriend and I ate at La Strata tonight. The food was excellent, however we waited over an hour to get our entrees and then another hour for our check. Like I said the food was very good but the service was poor. If you are ever in Randolph and want a good bite to eat go to Verona on Sussex where the service is always great and the food and portions are large. Another thing that I don't like about La Strata is the mandatory parking. Why?? It's not a necessity. They could have your the valet guy in the kitchen to speed things up! read more

Service was wonderful. Food, not so much. We started the evening with high hopes as the burrata with marinated red peppers and artichokes was probably the freshest we'd ever eaten. So delicious! I ordered the Saltimboca. Three decent sized medallions but the sauce was tasteless and no evidence of sage which is a highlight in this dish. Came with a hint of vegetables, carrots and broccoli but the mashed potatoes were made with a box of potato flakes- Yuk. My husband had the pork braccole which he said was just ok. Good old fashion Italian food We heard about this restaurant and thought we would give it a try. The appetizers were mostly good. My daughter's & wife's mussels were just warm and my son's calamari wasn't crispy and over done with oil and also warm. My app which was Italian sausage over polenta was very good. The main course was much better. I had the angel hair pasta with arugula and shrimp. It's always nice when the shrimp are completely peeled. The other members of my family also enjoyed their meals.
