I have passed by this place a dozen times but never went in. I looked them up on Yelp and they had great reviews. My wife and I tried the place in the late afternoon on Saturday (3 PM). I very much like this place - I will be going back today by myself as I have had to fast for a 1:30 PM doctor's appointment (blood test). We were immediately greeted and told we could sit wherever we wanted. Our server came over and brought chips, salsa and a spicy green sauce which was excellent. We were a group of 8+ and I totally understand implanting a gratuity when it's a big group,HOWEVER when it's pre added to our receipt slip and being labeled as "suggested" when it's already included to the total AND automatically being 18% instead of us picking the % is outrageous. Even after paying they give it back to sign and it's showing to add an additional tip??? Additional from the 18% they made all of us pay??? Yeah...no never coming again. My friend made a reservation for a large bday party of 15 and when we came, they didn't have the tables ready and the reservations in the books. The AC wasn't working so it was hot! The service was great though - they got all our drink orders, then dinner orders and bills separate and correct. The food was good - pretty authentic Mexican if you ask me. They give you free chips and two types of salsa. The queso Flameago with chorizo here is greasy and amazing! It comes with three corn or flour tortilla.. They might want to consider giving more tortilla for the amount of cheese. But it is delicious cause it's so bad for you. The ceviche mixta is one of my favorites.. And they have street tacos that are actually a good size for only $2.50ish a pop. The fajita meat was well seasoned and cooked perfectly! The platter serves 2-4 depending how hungry you are! The large margaritas are definitely tasty! Strawberry, lime, peach and mango flavors! The strawberry mixed with peach is delish! They even decided to open some fans and install them while we were there cause the heat was so unbearable! I hope the AC not working isn't a permanent thing. I want to start by saying that generally speaking, I like La Tapatia. This location - absolutely not. Run, screaming. I don't know that I have ever consistently received such horrible service. Every single time. From completely missing an entire person's meal to slow to-go service to plain bad service - why did we have to ask for the free chips? - its just terrible. The last straw was going in for lunch the last time I will ever patronize this particular establishment. We had to flag someone down to even seat us, ten minutes to get someone to get our drink order, had to flag someone down for chips, and when we saw a table that had very clearly been there for a while just getting their food, we said forget it, cancel our orders because its clear they hadn't even gotten anywhere near starting and went to find food elsewhere. Thankfully it was a lunch date where my husband and I were off work for the day, but if I were those people we saw waiting, I would have been far more pissed that I'd have essentially had a lunch hour where I didn't get to eat. I figure this is all a management problem with improper staffing and training etc. but save yourself the frustration. Don't go to this La Tapatia location. read more

I used to really like this place. The margaritas are strong. The food is great. However, today when I ordered the Tapatia Parillada the menu said $51.99. When I got the bill they charged me $80.00. When I asked why the $30 up charge they said it's because the meal comes with two plates and we asked for a third. We didn't ask for a third plate they just said for 3 people and we said yes. How are we supposed to assume that meant charge us $30 for an extra plate of rice. They could have said it was an upcharge and we would not have gotten more rice. That plate of rice was more than half of a hot plate of beef and chicken fajitas, sausage and quail. We had been there many times before and this was never an issue. When we have gotten four plates before they never raised the price on us. Even if they changed the price they should have told us, or at least said that on the menu. I'm not saying the place is that bad, but the manager could have seen their error . TLDR If you order there becareful they don't upcharge you on everything. If you get a refill on water they might charge you. (that part was a joke, but becareful.) read more

Music is really good. Chips came out and were refilled right away by one server. The waitress on the other was attentive for most of our time there until someone she knew came in. it took awile for the waitress to return to our table. Ordered enchiladas de mole and he ordered enchiladas de potosinas. His was chicken was dry. The mole sauce did not have flavor. They brought me the wrong food to start with I ordered a quesadilla with no tomatoes. The waitress brought a burrito full of tomatoes. I was willing to accept the burrito. I called her over and asked to make it with no tomatoes. The manager brought me the one that I cut instead of making a new. And it still had tomatoes. I have used La Tapatia for several events with large groups. They have always exceeded my expectations and are very reasonably priced. Armando the manager even came in on his off time to make sure my husband's 50th birthday party went as planned. We recently used them again to make an item off the menu for a very special event and everyone kept asking where we got the food from! It's probably the nicest taqueria in the area, but it also serves the most gringo-ized food in the area. Unlike my first visit (where they were very busy) I was the only person in during lunch and service was prompt. The food is good, but there are better, less Americanized choices nearby. Finally, cheese enchiladas made with REAL CHEDDAR CHEESE! I cannot stand when I go places and they use that disgusting velveeta type cheese in their enchiladas. The plate was piping hot and the chili gravy was just on point. The rice was moist and hot with no hard pieces and did not seem microwaved but tasted very fresh and the refried beans were very flavorful and authentic (made with lard)! Only thing that would have made the enchiladas a tiny bit better is if the corn tortillas had been red, but I was extremely pleased bc red tortillas or not, the plate was absolutely delicious! The service is quick and friendly. My food came out in less than 5 minutes and my water was really crisp and didn't taste like tap water. The interior isn't very big but is clean and decorated in a commonly seen Mexican restaurant style, and the patio area is nice looking and covered. I came on a Saturday evening at 7:30 and was seated right away. They serve warm crispy thick chips (yummy) and red salsa, I didn't ask about green salsa. I'm honestly surprised this place doesn't have better ratings... Then again it's pretty hard to mess up cheese enchiladas and water. Lol... although seriously so many places are using that velveeta cheese now it's really a nasty shame! So kudos to La Tapatia for keeping it real! Next time I come, I need to try a margarita during happy hour, I noticed a few people looked like they were enjoying theirs. Also the prices are very fair!
