Hell no. Not coming back. I had a horrible dining experience at La Tapatia on S Gessner and Westpark. I don't know if the waitress knew what she did. Well. One way to tell her is no tips. I was not happy at the time I left. I was kind of enjoying my beef soup because there were a lot of flavors. I couldn't really eat it with the plain tortillas. I was hoping to use the salsa on tortillas instead of eating the burnt chips. I went to the restroom and came back to find that both chips con salsa and tortillas were removed from my table. WTF!!! I was furious. I thought all La Tapatia restaurants were the same as the one I went to on Richmond. But no. This one is the worst of all worst restaurants I have ever been to. I asked the waiter if they had menudo. He said yes. I had to ask because it was Sunday dinner time. But the waitress came to tell me they sold out. The waiter should had asked the kitchen first. Otherwise I'd go somewhere else. Because the music was so loud in an empty restaurant was creepy. read more

There wasn't a host at the stand so my friend and I had to wait for a while and finally walked to the bar area to get seated. So we weren't off to a great start, however our server was very attentive and kind. I ordered the Stuffed Jalapeños as an appetizer and WOW, they were so good and had great flavor 9/10! For entree I ordered the Beef Quesadilla's and overall they were fine, but nothing special 7.5/10. I don't think I'd go back, but overall it was an okay experience. read more

Tried the lunch menu here during a weekday. I got the chicken fajitas with an horchata, the horchata tasted homemade and not from a powder. The fajitas were also really good along with the rice. The only thing I didn't love were the charro beans. The place was not very busy during a weekday at lunch time but the service was great! I had the PECHUGA TAPATIA. The chicken breast was dry and TOUGH and flavor was "different". A friend ordered tacos and was not pleased with his meal either. The waitress was friendly and asked how everything was, when clearing plates, but did not respond (like she didn't listen) to us saying "es no bueno". Went in again this afternoon after a long, lunch less all day business meeting. Had the Carne Asada Street Tacos which could stand for themselves, but I added the amazing, warm salsa which made them mouthwatering. The service and cleanliness of this restaurant is second to none. Trust me, I'm a Colorado Native transplant to Arizona 30 years ago and forever long for that one place, that Hits on all 8 cylinders and this is the place. This spot was the backup because the first choice was an hour wait!! Good thing because I loved this spot!! The queso poblano was amazing one of the best I've tasted. And plus it comes with homemade flour tortillas!!! The best part of this restaurant is the stuffed jalapeños!! Wow just wow!!! Hands down the best stuff jalapeños out there!!! The Torta de carne asada was good! The fajita plate was good! Good favor on the meat! The carne asada burrito was good!! The wifey even liked the strawberry margarita () the price was not bad either! I work around the corner from here and decided to try it out. As soon as you walk in you get a sewage smell right away that is very off putting. Anyway, I used to order Gorditas from the location on bellaire but I didn't see it on the menu. The waitress tells me they still serve them so I ordered one or chicken fajita and one of beef. As I start cutting into the chicken one the chicken looked half cooked, pink even and the whole Gordita was soaked in the juices. It was not what some consider to be juicy chicken it looked so undercooked I didn't risk it. The waitress didn't seem too happy that I returned it. This restaurant has been in the corner of the strip center for as long as I can remember. Desperate for some really good Taqueria chicken soup (not the watered down Anglo tortilla version) we got some to go. Delicious with chunky vegetables and large pieces of chicken. This warranted a follow up visit especially since they had mole on the menu. So I took my mom (a not adventurous diner by any stretch) and it was amazing. I got the lunch special which satisfied my curiosity about the mole - I could eat this every day. Bonus? The fajita meat in the taco Al carbon was tender and well seasoned. Everyone is going with cheaper cuts these days and this may have been but proper care and prep is key. My mom had one of the lunch specials and all she could talk about was how fluffy the rice was!! A long time ago upon first opening on lower Richmond the table would get this dish of jalepeño garlic carrots along with chips and & salsas roja y verde. Things change and yet the food is still consistently great whether it's nachos, caldo, mole enchiladas, street tacos, tortas etc and served with friendly and attentive servers. To date we've not ever been disappointed at this or any location of La Tapatia. We meet family and all our friends here at his location. Check out the daily special offered on board as you walk in as well as Weekday Specials until 3:00pm. The variety included in these dishes will pique your curiousity, like adobe chicken did to me. THIS IS THE SPOT FOR ME AND MY GIRLS!! On Wednesdays they have happy hour until 11pm! They're frozen margaritas come in pretty much all the flavors. My favorite is their mango margarita. I also love their Pina Colada, it comes in a really long glass. My go to meal is their shrimp enchiladas platter that comes with Spanish rice and refried beans. Their shrimp quesadilla is also really good. Don't get me started on their street tacos. I took my dad there yesterday for the first time and he loved his tequila tilapia meal. The waiter accidentally spilled my first watermelon margarita all over the table and felt so bad about it that he gave my dad a Heineken on the house so I wasn't upset about the mishap, plus we got to switch boots. The people there we're watching a soccer game and seemed to really be into it so it added to the overall vibe. On some days they have live music but it gets pretty loud so be aware of that if you're looking to catch up with friends. Their parking is great so you don't have to worry about getting your car towed, they're lot is big enough. They also have multiple locations but I would say the Gessner location is my spot. read more

Followed yelp recommendations to this little place. It's been here since 1989 and that's saying something. If service/food was bad it wouldn't last. La Tapatia Gessner is currently closed for "sanitization" purposes, according to their website. However, I stopped here a couple weeks ago and placed a to-go order for potato + egg + cheese breakfast tacos. When I got home and took a bite out of my taco, there was bacon in it; I do not eat bacon. I was a little frustrated, but I was hungry and decided to drive all the way back there so they could remake it. The cashier, Rosa, blamed the cook for the mistake--it's whatever. I understand things happen sometimes. S-o-m-e-t-i-m-e-s. I waited about 20 minutes for my new order and quickly checked that there was no bacon in it before I left. I get home, take a couple bites of my taco, and see this--there was a HAIR in my food! (See pictures.) At that point, I was absolutely disgusted and just threw everything away in the trash. Not only did I waste my time driving back and forth, but in the end I didn't eat anything because there was a hair cooked into the eggs of my breakfast taco. Maybe they'll get it together once they reopen post-"sanitization," but I won't be back to find out. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. I come here all the time with a couple of my friends. They have the best quesadillas I've ever tasted (specifically the carne asada). We went to this restaurant to try the Mexican food in Houston. My food was cold, so I ordered another plate, I was not impressed with that either. The chicken was hard to chew in the Tlapeño soup. As I was trying my food, I saw a roach crawl on the booth in front of me. This is when I called the person in charge and told him about my experience, he knew about the roaches and seemed not to make a big deal, which was not good. I will not go back to this place and I do not recommend this place either, food is not good or authentic plus not a clean place to eat either. read more
