I got the enchiladas de mole and the shrimp a la diabla, which had some pretty unique flavors and complexity. Fair warning the shrimp a la diabla was the spiciest thing I have ever had. It was really good but definitely not the faint of heart. It was sooooo spicy that I was sweating. The enchiladas was very good as well. The mole sauce had an interesting bitterness to it. We wanted to try a new and locally owned Mexican restaurant. We pass La Tejana Taqueria often as we travel N & S on Lindbergh. We were extremely disappointed. On this 85° day , the A/C wasn't working. They put a small bowl of chips on our table. (Supposedly homemade) They were greasy with very little flavor. My husband got a bottled beer. I asked for iced water. It came in a styrofoam cup, no lid, no straw, no ice. I asked for ice. They brought some in a small plastic bowl. I had no silverware to help the ice into the glass. Our food came separately. My husband's steak fajita was extremely tough with few veggies. Five minutes later, my cheese quesadilla arrived. It was small and on the plate was one plastic fork. Excellent Mexican. Better than most. A hole in the wall place in a run down strip center, but worth stopping at. A genuine Mexican place, everyone working there spoke Spanish, and several of the people seated near us were speaking Spanish. Also, their menu is in English and Spanish (see photo). We ordered steak fajitas and a steak burrito, and opted for a side of queso and guac. The queso was excellent - hot, smooth, and tasty. The guac was fresh, chunky, and also very tasty. The meat in the fajita was marinated in something that gave it an excellent flavor. It was, however, a little tough. The burrito was very good also. Three stars for the Taco Al Pastor! It was delicious. Went with friends from work. I had their Chicken Tinga Tacos at a food event but had never been to the restaurant. The location is in a strip mall off Lindbergh, kind of a dive. Staff was friendly and prices reasonable I ordered the lunch special with two tacos, rice, and beans. I chose chicken tinga and Al Pastor. Wish I would have gotten two Al Pastor. Very flavorful! Rice had peas and carrots and I don't like that. Beans were fine. I really enjoyed the Mexican food here! I found it on Yelp with good reviews and decided to come for lunch. I would have never seen it otherwise. I got three tacos: al pastor, fish, and carnitas! All very good! I also got a side of guac, rice, and beans! I'm particular about my guacamole but this was made just right! Went out for a good dinner. Been here before for a taco run and was satisfied, so I had to spread the good news and show it to someone else. They ordered tacos and a gordita and I got chicken fajitas and a pineapple drink. I do like their sauce choices. They give you free chips and salsa, but you get 3 types of salsa. Love the variety. This place definitely has great tacos for a great low price! Make sure to check into La Tejana Taqueria from your Yelp app to get a free taco! The tacos that I got were the Tinga, Chorizo, Campechano, and the Al Pastor. My favorite taco would have to be the Al Pastor. My least favorite taco was the Tinga. First, all of the tacos had a lot of meat and it was definitely well worth the $1.99 for the taco! There are other options on how you can get the meats (tostada, sopes, etc). Second, definitely squeeze the lime and ask for their sauces! They will bring out two sauces if you request it. I forgot to ask what they were made of, but one of the sauces was red and one was green. The red sauce proved to be very spicy for me, but the green sauce was less of a kick. A small authentic restaurant in a plaza not too far from the airport. We stopped in near lunch time with a teenage friend. There were many locals of Latino descent which generally points to authentic and decent food. It's a cozy location next to a Carniceria. The menu is pretty varied with a lot of typical Mexican fare including tripe, tongue and Aguas Frescas. I saw some amazing looking Micheladas and Margaritas. All of this being said, the food although authentic and fresh, lacked flavor. The plates were absolutely beautiful presented and so we were excited to taste our food but it was boring and disappointing. I have been to Mexico and in many authentic Mexican restaurants and have immediately planned that I will go back. This was not the case with this restaurant. There were 3 of us and all remarked how tasteless the food was. It was like they used no spices or salt used during cooking. We got Chicken Enchiladas, Chicken Fajitas and 2 Gorditas- 1 Chorizo and 1 Pastor. Salsa was okay with several levels of heat. Aguas Frescas just average, tasted like a box or mix. Guacamole needed salt and lime. Service was okay but we got the wrong food and drinks. Bathroom wasn't clean. Maybe it was just an off day but for myself, I wouldn't go back. Lots of reasons why the food should've been good but it wasn't. Some reviews posted many vegetarian options, but I really didn't see any. Went in with my husband, there was no one else there. The chips are thick, not my preferred style of chip but they weren't bad, the salsa was flavorful with minimal spice, I thought it was good. We got a ting taco which was pretty good, shrimp taco is nothing special just ok, tacos Al pastor which were good, and carne asada taco which in my opinion was the best. My husband said the ceviche tostado was ok. My husband also got a carne asada quesadilla which was good. The service was not great, our server brought our food and then took 45 mins to come back, we had been done eating for at least 15 mins, never refilled drinks. And then he went and got a box for us and went to print the check and disappeared again without giving us either. This is yet another tiny Mexican food spot in a stip mall that you would likely drive by hundreds of times before even thinking of stopping in for a bite to eat (much like myself). We stopped in after looking for promising Mexican restaurants in our area that were open on a Sunday evening after our first choice was closed. Little did we know how lucky we were to be directed to another amazing spot. Most of us have come to expect chips and salsa when they sit down at a Mexican restaurant... or maybe that's just me and I have been spoiled at the places I have gone to. Sitting down and being handed incredibly thick, freshly fried tortilla chips and not one, not two, but three different sauce/salsa options was incredible! The salsa was fresh and flavorful with a small but noticeable kick of spice. There was also a dark red super spicy sauce (imagine cranberry red and full of pepper seeds) and a mild green sauce. My husband and I both ordered the chicken fajitas plates. I tend to try to limit my calorie intake, so he got two platters worth of tortillas (which looked amazing and homemade). He stuffed every shell with meat, beans, and rice and still had some left over; the portions were incredibly generous. Everything on my fajita plate was delicious; the chicken and veggies were well cooked and seasoned well. I was pretty amazed by how sweet the peppers and onions were (with just the right amount of char). My parents ordered guacamole, margaritas, enchilladas, and a burrito. I am anti-avocado, but everyone else said the guac was flaorful and extremely creamy. My father frequents Mexican restaurants near where he lives in Illinois, but he claims the burrito he ordered was the best of his life.
