Heard from a coworker that these tacos were as close to Texas breakfast tacos as possible so I was intrigued. Parking is only street parking so be aware it can be hard to find a spot. Took me about 30 minute to get a spot on a residential street. Line was slightly out the door but line moved fast. Got the 7 tacos (2x956, 2xLa Choripapa, 1xSuper Migas, 1xSuper Duper Migas, 1x512) and 2 dirty horchata. Came out in about 5 minutes. Not much indoor seating but I believe they had an upstairs section too. Tacos lived up to the hype. Pretty good size tacos with the right amount of filling. Tortillas were perfect. Salsas were good, especially that cilantro crema. Despite the tough parking situation I would definitely come back.
Im from Austin. This place has better breakfast tacos at far better price than anywhere in Austin. Tortillas are fire. Eggs perfectly cooked (most are overcooked) fantastic all around. Prices are amazing! Line moves fast, dont worry.
It took an hour round trip to get a couple breakfast burritos. Was it worth it? Definitely I got the 956 and unwrapped the foil, still warm and delicious. They'd be good to take on a work day but it's Saturday and I'm enjoying them at home with some coffee. Since I can't remark on the ambiance, having never seen the restaurant I just share where it takes me to when I taste. The tortilla is unique, probably handmade and tightly wrapped around the filling. I am reminded of the San Antonio river walk. It wasn't wet or juicy by the time I got it, maybe they are right out of the kitchen but, it was not dry either. The eggs were jiggly and bacon bits added salty savory texture. I dripped red sauce on every bite and enjoyed them a little bit spicy.
La Tejana is a local D.C. Mexican restaurant with a Michelin Bib Gourmand rating. It's situated on a side street which has absolutely no parking, even within 15 min. walking distance as it's closer to a residential area. So uber or Lyft unless you live close enough. I came here all the way from Fairfax with my husband hoping to try a few of their breakfast tacos. I go there at about 11am and waited in line for 1 and a half hours just to order. When I finally stepped inside I found that the majority of their tacos (literally except for 2 types) were sold out. Not only that but they only had one vegetarian option left (I'm not vegetarian or vegan but I don't eat pork of any kind which most of the non veggie tacos had) and they refused to do any type of modification (literally just wanted to remove the bacon). This proved to be anxiety inducing for me as I had already planned out what I was going to order and couldn't eat the majority of what they offered. Another person behind me who was vegan waited in line for no reason as the vegan option was sold out. While I understand they are popular and will sell out quicker than normal places, I would have expected someone to come out and tell the line of 40+ people that they were sold out of most items so they wouldn't have to wait for no reason if they didn't have to. I was really upset that I basically waited in line to get only one type of taco that I didn't even want. They also didn't give me the correct amount of sauces for my two tacos. There was supposed to be one of each sauce with each taco, but I only received 2 instead of 4. Furthermore the sauces were tiny like less than an ounce of sauce, which they were selling extras for 50 cents a piece. Now onto the food. The breakfast tacos were decent, but very tiny (think cheesy roll up from Taco Bell size) and had little flavor without the sauces. The sauces did add quite a bit of flavor to it, and I really enjoyed the cilantro crema and would honestly buy that by the bottle if I could. But at nearly $5 a taco they were way too small. Honestly I might come back just to try the tacos I wanted to try, but will have to come really early to do so. TLDR: The tacos are decent, but the sauces are amazing. They are too pricy for their tiny size, and the customer service was horrible because they didn't come out to tell anyone waiting outside for hours that most of their tacos were sold out; that's not just terrible customer service, that's an indecent thing to do as a human being. I would hesitate to come back but only really early.
Breakfast tacos are still awesome and they have opened a night time cocktail bar that is very good as well. My favorite breakfast tacos are la choripopa, super duper migas, and the 512. La choripopa is super savory with chorizo and the potatoes. It's excellent. Super Duper migas is veggie option paired with bacon it has awesome flavor with the beans cheese and bacon. 512 is brisket with eggs. It's so good and worth the extra price. The tortillas here are freshly made and are perfect not too chewy and are pillowy soft. The night time cocktail bar has awesome drinks and small plates. I got a hibiscus margarita and a chicken taco it was very good. The marg was perfectly mixed. Had nice sweet notes of hibiscus mixed with the punchiness of the tequila and the spicy rim. Well worth a visit. Service is always nice and friendly. The interior has a seating area up stairs and patio seating.
Amazed with this food. The place is located at a busy area so parking is a challenge. There's a line to order and the place is pretty small so come with time and patience. Once ordered it comes out pretty quick. I got the 512- which is a brisket taco and it is more expensive than the others in the menu. It was all it promised to be. I also got the migas taco and it was pretty great as well. Their green sauce was amazing so I would definitely ask for extras next time. This was a great place to have breakfast, they have a little outside sitting area and some sitting inside I think since I saw some people that went up stairs after ordering. This is definitely worth it and I will come back
I'd take these breakfast tacos over a bagel any day in DC--and that's saying something. The quality is outstanding, and my favorite is the brisket taco from 2Fifty. I've been twice now: the first time I waited in a long line, and the second time it was only about 15 minutes. That said, the seating situation isn't ideal. There aren't many benches or tables nearby, so you'll either grab one of the outdoor spots or settle for the small stools (as shown in one of my photos). Still, the food makes it worth it. I definitely recommend going for the three-taco deal. They sell out quickly, so getting there early is your best bet. On my first visit, only two taco options were left by the time I ordered--so if you want the full selection, aim to beat the line and go as close to opening as possible.
Worth the hype and the wait! Really good breakfast tacos. I tried Uncle P and Super Migas, both were delicious. Was hard to find seating but definitely worth it. Will be back!
I arrived 12:09 pm to a line out the door but it moved rather quickly and we started eating around 12:28 pm! This is a no frill breakfast spot with well executed breakfast tacos at a fair price ~$4-7 per taco. I'd recommend getting the 956 as the ultimate combo of their core ingredients. Their refried beans are delicious and all of their sauces are AMAZING. If you're in the area I'd highly recommend coming by. Ambiance was quick and straight to the point. In order of preference: El Frijolito - Tortilla filled with refried beans; the refried beans have a LOVELY flavor and the texture was broken up with some diced, crisp onions. 956 - Bacon also ran out by the time I got there, this was pretty good. It seems the intention was to have soft potatoes, I wonder how this would be with crispy potatoes! The 512 - Pico de gallo ran out by the time I came, this was pretty solid. Super Mijas - Nice combo of eggs, some veggies, and queso but I would have liked it with refried beans and other textures.
This review is for the breakfast tacos. They hit the spot every time and are worth waiting in line for. You will wake up craving them, impatiently wait for them and they will satisfy, every damn time. No wrong choices on the menu. Pick what sounds good in the moment. The salsas are incredible too. Every part of this breakfast is handmade with love and you can taste it. Pro tip: seating upstairs is spacious and not crowded
One of the many restaurants in Mt Pleasant I have been wanting to try. Stopped here right before they closed and got the la choripapa and 956. The 956 was my favorite of the two. The choripapa was good as well. The potatoes were a bit dry and old but given that I ordered 30 minutes before they closed they were decent. They were sold out of quite a few already so go earlier if there is a particular taco you want. The avocado creams sauce was tasty. The salsa was gross, it tasted like puréed tomatoes and nothing else. The inside is quite small but there's seating outside you can use.
My friend is local to DC and insisted that we stop here for breakfast tacos. Never one to turn down a good breakfast taco, I eagerly agreed. I was a bit concerned when we walked up and were greeted by a line about 50 people deep. My friend assured me that the lined moved quickly and the food was worth the wait. Trust the process. I ordered the 956, Súper Migas, and Tio Willie. I also had the horchata iced coffee. The food was seriously amazing and the coffee was so simple but so delicious. As a plus, my vegetarian friend was able to enjoy several taco options as well. We ate upstairs. Though it was a bit cramped, we were able to enjoy our tacos inside on a warm day. I would definitely return to La Tejana on my next trip to DC.
What a popular place. My friend I got here mid morning on Saturday and the line was down the block. It took about 45 mins before we got inside to order. We ordered 5 tacos and their Dirty Horchata. Our favorite tacos were The 512. The brisket was soft and had plenty of egg. All the little sauces provided were delicious and we used it all. Our beverages were really good too. Such a cool little breakfast taco spot. The wait was definitely worth it!
Located in Mount Pleasant is this cute and yummy breakfast taco place. We came here around 8:15/30am on a Sunday, and two people had ordered ahead of us. My friend ordered the 956 and the super duper migas, while I was recommended the El frijolito. The tacos were good but what really set it apart was the tortillas. I also got the dirty horchata, which was good. Unfortunately, the lids were not fitting right so it was spilling all over myself and the counter (and later my car). I would definitely recommend, and hope to come back (it's just a bit of a trek from where I live). read more
I was excited to give this place a try but left a little disappointed. The ingredients were good and tortillas were very fresh. But the tacos were pretty boring to be honest. The flavor wasn't there and they felt pretty basic. I'd say the 956 was the best taco of them all. The 512 was pretty bad though. Service was fast and the inside was nice. Probably wouldn't drive out of my way for it again though. read more
It's a tiny little taco shop that has delicious fairly priced tacos. The 6 for $24 is a great deal and good for two people. The tacos are fresh and full of flavor! Our favorite was the Super Migas. Street parking is zoned. There is a lovely little outdoor seating area off the sidewalk or you can eat quickly at the counter inside if there's room. read more
Cute popular taco spot in Mount Pleasant! Love the vibe inside. There's a small counter space inside and some tables outside. But if you come at 11am on a sunny Saturday, expect to stand in line and don't expect seating! Great vegetarian options. The Uncle P was a little bland but the salsa it came with helped a lot. Ok let's talk about La Tejana because their breakfast tacos absolutely SLAP! My friend lives a few minutes away and assured me my first breakfast in DC had to be from here. So off I went to breakfast glory. I ordered two tacos. First up was the Choripapa. I've never met a taco with chorizo I haven't enjoyed and this was no different. It has Cheesy scrambled eggs, house-cured chorizo, fried potatoes, and cilantro garnish. I also ordered el Frijolito upon recommendation from the team member who took my order and it was awesome. That comes with refried pinto beans, diced onion, tortilla strip crumble, sprinkled cheddar cheese. All the tacos come on house made flour tortillas and are served with charred tomato and cilantro crema salsas. The food was amazing but the tortillas impressed me the most. They were the perfect vehicle for the tacos. My visit was quick as it was a Friday morning, but I do hear they get quite the line on the weekends. They have deals when you order 3 or 6 tacos so I suggest going with friends and going in on delightful breakfast spread. read more

I was staying nearby so took the opportunity to head over bright and early on a Saturday. I got there by 7:45 am and there was no line! I was under the impression that there was always a line. Inside there were 3-4 people waiting. The tacos are 1 for $4.50, 3 for $13, 6 for $24. The 512 is $7. I ordered La Choripapa, 512, and Super Migas. My total was $17.60! The tacos are small rolled up flour tortillas. There's a decent amount of scrambled eggs in each one but not too much of the other ingredients. They taste great! It's the type of place you could go every week if it was a bit less expensive. read more
Looks like I've done La Tejana in reverse by skipping the breakfast tacos that they are known for and instead going trying their new bar and late night menu for my first visit. The upstairs space is very cute but keep in mind that it's small so make a reservation, especially if you have a group larger than 2. It would be excellent for date night or catching drinks before a night out. Menu wise, it is evident that that the mixologist on hand carefully crafted the drink menu. My friends ordered the Matcha Colada, La Marg Pleasant and the frozen del dia, which was a Guava Mint concoction. Though I did not drink, I had my fair share of apps. We ordered the quesadilla, loaded queso and chips, churros and tres leches cake off the late night menu. Everything was great but the highlight was the quesadilla. It was very good, loaded with brisket and comes with guac. The loaded queso, though delicious, was not loaded enough in my opinion to justify the cost so I would opt for the regular queso or chips and guac next time because the chips are great. I am very picky about chips and you can tell that these are fried fresh to order. They came out warm and lightly salted. The churros and tres leche were both good as well and would satisfy a nighttime sweet craving. Bumping up my review to 5 stars for the service. The staff is very warm and friendly and at the end of our time, someone from the bar came out to ask us for any feedback we had on our drinks. I love that! It shows that they really care about perfecting their drinks and elevating the customer experience. read more
These were the best breakfast tacos I've ever had. I had the Choripapa taco and 2 Super Migas tacos. They were bursting with flavor. They may look small, but they're absolutely stuffed. I immediately started tapping my feet under my table when I dipped my tacos in the house made salsas. There was a fairly long line when we arrived, but the staff churned through them very quickly. When I approached the counter, the cashier was warm and kind and had enough patience to answer questions about the coffee (which came with Horchata). Looking at the building from outside, I had a feeling there was additional seating upstairs. Glad to see my assumption was correct. Despite the place being narrow, they utilize every square foot effectively. I was cozily tucked away upstairs devouring the tacos. I'll be back when I'm back in the District. read more

I've now been to La Tejana for both breakfast and dinner! Their tortillas are my absolute favorite thing: they're just exactly the way they should be. Eating here always brings me back to Texas! I love their breakfast tacos best of all for their simple, delicious fillings, but the rajas con crema taco on their dinner menu was really flavorful and satisfying too. I'm curious to come back and try their quesadilla sometime, but you really can't go wrong with their tacos any time of day. I don't want to comment too much on the drinks because they were having technical issues when I was there, so they couldn't make them as they usually do, but I'd be willing to give them another try on that as well. I've always found the staff here super friendly! It's a smalll space and it gets very, very busy, so for breakfast either come at an off time or be prepared to wait a little. The only real downside is that the prices are definitely a little high compared to what I'm used to paying for a breakfast taco - but, well, this isn't Texas, and I understand they have to price accordingly. The tacos are worth it to me for whenever I'm craving TexMex! Really glad to have this delicious spot near me and looking forward to exploring more of their evening menu! read more
I finally had the chance to check this spot out, and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast tacos! Living right around the corner, I can't believe it's taken me this long to visit. I remember passing by a few months ago and seeing a line out the door, which, to be honest, deterred me because I really hate waiting. But on this Sunday morning, I decided to give it a shot, and luckily, there were only a couple of people ahead of me. The space is small inside, but they offer outdoor seating and a counter by the window, which is where I stood and ate while enjoying the view. Now onto the food! I recommend trying at least three different tacos if you're not planning to come back right away. Here's what I tried: 956 - I was excited for this one, but honestly, where was the chorizo? It felt like it was missing. I think I would've loved it more if they had doubled up on the chorizo because it was pretty hard to find any. Super Duper Migas - This was hands down my favorite. The mix of veggies, bacon, and overall flavors was just perfect. La Choripapa - I love chorizo, but this taco just needed a little more chorizo for me to fall in love with it. I also grabbed a small iced coffee, which was really good and reasonably priced compared to most places. read more
Congrats to this hidden gem on its entry onto the Michelin Bib Gourmand! The line is constantly out the door at this restaurant which specializes in breakfast tacos. These admittedly are not my favorite type of food, but I was impressed with the high quality of ingredients. The sauces were great too! The servers are extremely kind. read more

OVERALL: best breakfast tacos in the DMV! I would come here for the tortillas alone. Worth the lines! FOOD: I cant get enough of the flour tortillas. They are handmade, fluffy, and thick but not crispy- the texture is just perfect and it's flavorful. My group's favorite is the frijolitos. It doesn't sound like much - refried beans, cheese, and onions but it packs a punch and is absolutely amazing. Another close second is the 956. I'm slowly making my way through the list - they have a 3/$13 special. The tacos comes with a green and red salsa. The red is more traditional and the green is a bit tangy. Neither are spicy. If you want extra, it's 75 cents each. Last time I had the dirty horchata. I wasn't a big fan because it tasted more like coffee; i didn't taste the horchata at all. I would highly recommend the tamarind tea though! SERVICE: despite the lines, the staff is super efficient. I always get my food within 3-5 minutes of ordering. VENUE: it's small but super cute. There are no indoor seats but there are 3 tables outside which are claimed pretty quickly. There are more across the street at the park. read more

Grabbed breakfast tacos with wifey and was blown away at the flavor and service! We ordered (6) for $24! The line was well worth the wait. Our 6 included the 956, (2)Super Duper Migas, the La Choripapa, the Tio Willie and the El Frilojo. BEST BREAKFAST TACOS IN THE DMV! First off, the tortillas are handmade DAILY and believe me, you taste the freshness! Not to mention, the SERVICE! The owner is who took my order and she was so sweet! She asked if it was my first time and patiently explained the menu. It was the kick off to PRIDE MONTH and the space was decorated so beautifully to support the LGBTQIA Community! My favorite was the Super Duper Migas it has eggs, bacon, potatoes, Queso drizzle, Pico de Gallo, & refried beans on it! Literally SO good! Honestly, the tacos are worth the wait. La Tejana has a great vibe, but I wasn't blown away by the breakfast tacos or salsa. I ordered the dirty horchata, la choripapa, and the super migas. The dirty horchata was very watered down and had little to no flavor. La choripapa and super migas tasted very similar, and the eggs were quite watery. Even the salsa was underwhelming and did not help make the tacos more tasty. I did love the tortillas and would happily order those by themselves, but I definitely won't be standing in line again for the tacos or drinks. read more

Ive been waiting to visit this breakfast taco joint. Oh my God! One of the best breakfast tacos I've had! The tortilla is delicious and so is the filling for each taco. I ordered 2 Super Miga (egg, diced poblano, cheese) and 1 bean taco. There was a medium size line but the service was very try fast and friendly. To my surprise, there is seating available on the second floor. They place great music. I highly recommend this place, it did not disappoint! read more

Traveled far for these breakfast tacos! 1 for $4.50, 3 for $13, 6 for $24. 4/5 La Choripapa - great house cured chorizo. 4/5 Tio Willie - all my favorite breakfast things in one taco: cheesy eggs, bacon, potatoes, and queso. 4/5 The 512 ($7) - I'm a big 2fifty BBQ fan so I was excited to see their brisket featured in this taco. It was just a little too salty for me. 5/5 Super Duper Migas - my favorite! So many delicious flavors--tomato + poblano really stood out. I wish they weren't so far from me or else I would go more often. read more

Not much to say that hasnt been said already! Great breakfast tacos with soft, housemade flour tortillas, Tiny store front for to go tacos so be ready to sit outside/walk and enjoy your fresh-made taco. The cilantro lime crema here is so delicious if they sold jars of it - I'd be getting one. The dirty horchata is yummy and not too sweet at all. I think any taco you get here you'll enjoy. So far my favorites have been super duper migas and the betsy. Very clean, warm aesthetics and the cashiers are always nice. The line will be down the street, but the wait isn't too bad and the tacos come out shortly after ordering. read more

I ordered 3 tacos for $13 this morning, and got a drip coffee. The coffee roaster is Lost Sock, which means the owner has good taste in coffee. The tacos were pretty good, but I don't know if it justified the gigantic line, especially at $4+ per taco. In San Diego, this place would be average. In DC, this is a top 5 shop. read more
took 4 Californians (&1 midwesterner) to a taco place and held my dang breath - and shortly after the 15 minute wait in line....let out the biggest sigh of relief - these breakfast tacos passed every single SoCal dwellers Mexican food check and that is an unpassable bar for most of DC. - it had to be the homemade tortillas. thick wheat tortillas that were hot, stretchy, and a little spongy, just fresh out of the oven. - or was it the perfectly soft scrambled eggs? the chewy cuts of fragrant bacon? the complementary perfectly roasted spicy salsa or the creamy mild cilantro crema? - we tried a variety of the tacos and the vegetarians and meat eaters felt equally content. not too pricey for a solid authentic breakfast made to order right on the spot. - my only complaint is that the chorizo taco, makes sense why only one option has chorizo for the meat, was lacking. it was 90% potato. the potato's weren't that special (needed more seasoning to stand out amongst the other fab ingredients). the chorizo just didn't have that savory salty tang I'm used to. would've opted for another egg based order! read more
Simply amazing. Le Tejana, is a no-frills, breakfast taco gem in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. Their food packs a punch, is a perfect reminder of southwest U.S. famed breakfast tacos, all at a great price point with fast service. I strongly recommend three tacos per person and a Mexican Coke. Trust me. I had the 512, which is a surprising collab with 2fifty's brisket, La choripapa, and 956. All amazing selections especially when paired with complimentary salsa and lime crema. They make breakfast tacos seem like a weekend ritual. I love the concept of strictly breakfast tacos on a small menu and are ready to go once ordered so service is pretty quick. This is not a place for dining although there are a few seats outside along the sidewalk. I really enjoys my breakfast tacos. I would advise if you're hungry order more than one as they are pretty small. Not pricey either. read more

Queso. It's on three out of La Tejana's tacos and it's divine. The menu calls it "queso drizzle," but it's full of flavor and accents each taco. My five-year-old daughter and I went around 11:30 a.m. on a Thursday for lunch. Here's our experience: 1) Food: The menu is small, which means they have time to focus on each item and each ingredient. For $24, we ordered six tacos (one of each of the five and we doubled up on the La Choripapa). Each came wrapped in foil inside a hand-made flour tortilla (the owners are from Texas and northern Mexico where flour is queen) with simple ingredients. The stand-outs were the La Choripapa with chorizo and fried potatoes and the El Frijolito with refried pinto beans, cheese and onions. 2) Drinks: They brew local Lost Sock coffee and sell Mexican Coca-Cola in glass bottles and other sodas. There's a jug of water kept cold on the back counter for all. 3) Space: Small, it's beautifully decorated with blue tiles and on-brand books on shelves. Notice the inside mural above the window table. There are three outdoor tables along the sidewalk. 4) Service: It's stellar- efficient, friendly, and proud of what they've created- as they should be! Other than being new I don't understand the hype for this and the 30+ minute lines. Salsas are the stars here, the tacos are fine. Couldn't taste any chorizo in that one, bacon was better. The tortilla is fresh and doughy, the size is pretty small for a burrito but it gets the job done if you get 3. The fries and the brisket was odd in my opinion. The "cheese" wasn't really there. The fries seasoned and the brisket was a generous portion. Overall it was a decent lunch. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the breakfast tacos are fantastic! The line was out the door on the Saturday morning that we were there (although the place is kind of small, so that's not a huge achievement). Be warned - there's no place to dine inside and there are only a few tables outside, so you should plan on taking your food to go. read more
What better way of spending a Saturday afternoon than getting access to the number one breakfast burrito spot in DC. I've heard about La Tejana through different networks on social media. We got there around 11:30am and waited about 45 minutes until we placed our order. The order came out relatively quick, which was nice. It's a cool little spot and a neighborhood gem. They are open from 7:30 AM to 1 PM and then they open again at 5 PM. They have a very friendly staff and the quality of their food is top tier. My friend and I sat upstairs, which had plenty of seating. I ended up getting four tacos and it was the perfect amount of food for me. My favorite was the 512. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they do pick up orders. The restaurant has been open for about two years now and every weekend the line is out the door as you can see in the images. Looking forward to getting a chance to go back it's probably less busier early in the morning. read more
