Searched this place after the Diplo 5k. We loved the food and the service here. Pretty affordable for LA prices. The ambiance was a calm setting. We arrived here around 1pm. The food was very filling and delicious. It had a lot of flavor for just a few ingredients in the breakfast burrito. Definitely worth it! Vegetarian Breakfast Burrito: 4.5/5 Iced Horchata Latte: 3.5/5 (missed some flavor, lack of sweetness)

Big fan of this spot! The outside is rather unassuming, but the interior is very welcoming and sets a nice mood. Plenty of seating, free water, clean bathrooms, lovely artwork on the walls, and even some jewelry on display (and for sale). Love the aesthetic at this place! The staff are always very kind, welcoming, and helpful. I've ordered their breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich in the past, both hit the spot and the portions are generous. When paired with a delicious coffee (hot mocha is my go-to), you'll be leaving sufficiently full and either with plenty of energy for the day or in need of a fat nap depending on what you ordered. This place is a must visit and I'm excited to stop by when I'm in the area, go check them out and you'll be glad you did!!

Every coffee shop works hard to be unique and have some sort of standout quality, sadly many times it does not work out as intended. I can say that La Terraza cracked the code! The team really put their all into making the coffee shop feel like a unique space dedicated to their people and home while also giving a quality, minimalist presentation throughout the shop. Great space that provides a calming but colorful atmosphere. Now for the main thing: the food and coffee. The coffee was delicious, fresh, and had more options than I've seen at most coffee shops, many of which were Mexican specialty coffee drinks like the cafe de Olla (which was truly perfection in a cup). We ordered a lox bagel, side salad, and a breakfast parfait bowl, all of which were as fresh as could possibly be and prepped to perfection. Truly no notes, except that I need another Cafe de Olla.

    Very clean and peaceful

This is one of the best cafe I've been to the service is amazing and the staff are always very welcoming and they also always remember my order every time I go

The Cubano sandwich is sooooooo good! It does take them a while to make, but absolutely worth it. Their Nutella Latte is AMAZING!

Delicious lil spot, looks closed cause of the dark glass but it's open! Found parking right across the street but heads up Thursdays there's a farmer's market so can't park directly in front of La Terraza. I had the brioche sandwich fried egg, bacon and cheese, very deli!! And I loved the unexpected side of fresh salad, greens and cherry tomatoes. And I got a side of freshly grated hash browns, alil to much pepper for my taste and still palatable. And to drink I had a cafe de olla latte with almond milk, it hit the spot with a cheese and berry Danish. My friend had the same sandwich and wished they had a turkey sausage or bacon cause she doesn't eat pork, other than that, I recommend this spot! Ooohhh and the chipotle aioli was spicy thank goodness I got it on the side, no spicy for me :) for all you spicy lovers out there.

Had brunch at La Terraza cafe and really loved the food. The ambience was really cozy and the decor had beautiful imagery of native Mexican people. All of the staff at the counter were very helpful and made the service really smooth. I had the buttermilk waffles with berries and maple syrup. It tasted very fresh and delicious and it was just enough to feel full. I also got a side of scrambled eggs and they were nicely cooked and fluffy. They were even nice enough to give me a side of complimentary salsa for the eggs on the side upon my request. My man got the bagel and lox but substituted the bagel for brioche and it tasted very fresh and savory and was flavor bomb to his taste buds. We will definitely be coming back!

Tried out Barrio for Valentines Day and it was a bit underwhelming. Throughout the night we had like three different servers it felt they just forgot about us lol. Luckily the lady who checked us in came through and carried the ebtire service team on her back. She offered us free dessert to compensate for the wait on our food orders. Once we finally got our food, it was actually very good. You could kind of tell that the team was not very experienced with busy service, so I think my experience would've been better with a more experienced team

We were able to walk in and order right away, the inside was really clean and spacious with lots of tables. Outdoor seating not available. Photographs and paintings cover the walls inside. There are some items for sale-mugs, coffee, woven mats. The food came out pretty quickly, I had a brioche bacon egg sandwich with chipotle aioli. The texture and flavor along with the sweetness from the brioche buns made for an amazing combo. I also had a cold brew, very good coffee. Great experience!

    It's yummy

Ask the Community - La Terraza Cafe

    Is this Latino owned?

    I believe it is.

    Is their outdoor seating?

No outdoor seating, the outside is a small strip of sidewalk - not big enough for tables!

Are any of the pastas house made?

    Yes, and VERY delicious

Do you have a corkage fee? Also, is outside liquor welcomed?

You cannot currently bring alcohol since they are working on getting their license.

Is Barrio still open or has a different restaurant taken its place?

    Barrio is open!

What happened to the sign? It doesn't even look like there is anything in that space and we have been wondering when the restaurant was going to open.

Helio! We're fixing the wall. Is 50 years old and couldn't accommodate our sign. Grand opening is this weekend! Thank you!

    What are the brunch hours?

Hello! We're open from 10-2 on Sunday

Is any of the pasta or bread gluten free?

Good evening! From what I know, the bread isn't gluten free but I believe they do have a gluten free pasta upon request.

I was genuinely excited to try this place, so unfortunately I left twice as disappointed not only by the rude service, but also because the flavors just weren't there. I've ordered takeout from here in the past and wasn't too impressed, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured maybe the food didn't travel well or simply wasn't as good by the time it got to me. I was hoping dining in would be a completely different experience, but sadly, that wasn't the case. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I'm hoping this feedback reaches someone who can actually address some of these issues, especially the service, since I noticed similar comments in quite a few other reviews. We tried the chilaquiles enfrijoladas and the French toast, along with a cortado and a café de olla latte. The enfrijoladas were way too salty and really needed something to balance the dish. For fried tortilla chips covered in bean sauce with one sad sunny side up egg just felt incomplete. A little something on the side to complement the flavors maybe the onion could be pickled or a little more crema and definitely a much lighter hand with the salt would make a big difference. The French toast was mediocre at best. The café de olla latte was unnecessarily too sweet, and the cortado was okay, but nothing particularly memorable. Overall, the experience just didn't live up to the hype on social media. I really wanted to love this place because it has so much potential. The ambiance is beautiful and I loved all the art and cultural influences throughout the space, which is why it's disappointing that the food and service didn't match that same level of care. I'd still be willing to give it another try in the future, and I genuinely hope I can come back and update this with a much more positive review. When you're drawing so much inspiration from the culture, I just wish the food represented it with the same care and attention that went into the space.

I visited specifically for the Mazapán Latte ($6.15), and it did not disappoint. Getting those little pieces of marzipan in every sip was a unique and delicious experience. What truly stood out, however, was the hospitality. While I was taking photos of the mural, Reyes kindly surprised me with a complimentary Chai Latte, as it was the last day they were serving it. These stairs were created in 1928, as a way to allow pedestrian connection between the elevated East 4th street and the neighborhood below. I've taken this many times, but as I tend to do when trying to reach a destination, ignored the journey until now. It opened in 2023 in Boyle Heights, expressing the owner's passion for coffee, specifically with Mexican flavors. I never went to a place like this before, so looked up how it is defined: the best term I could find was 'cozy family focused house-front coffee cart'. We came around lunch time so there were no longer any pastries. But the very friendly owner advised that most drinks were available. One page of the menu was devoted to various Matchas, so JM and I got the same thing: a large iced strawberry Matcha Latte ($8 each). One has the choice of dairy/non-dairy, so chose almond milk. There's a lovely backyard area with a few cafe tables, reminding me of someone's well appointed backyard. It's dog friendly, and we spent a couple of hours talking while enjoying our drinks. A definite place to consider if near the Boyle Heights area, and wanting to enjoy some coffee based drinks.

The cream top does make it very creamy and it does mask majority of the matcha flavor. It did taste like a dessert drink. It was enjoyable though. COLD BREW VANILLA Weirdly sour and smoky flavored cold brew. Slight floral flavor too. It was such an odd combination of flavors with the vanilla cold foam. The lingering aftertaste was not good either. It's neither this nor that. Would not recommend! FINANCIERS Their financiers are made by a local bakery called Musk. It seems their financier flavors are changed often, so no same flavors are in rotation. Sausage & Parmesan - The almond cake's vanilla flavor with the sausage and salty parmesan was a unique flavor. The almond cake was nice and spongy. It did take a bit of time to get used to the savory flavors with the almond cake. It's like a breakfast in an unexpected way. Nutella - Buttery almond cake with nutella and roasted hazelnuts. Enjoyed it! I think Nutella fans would like it. Mugwort + Fig - Buttery in the beginning and it ends with a good, medium-strength flavor of mugwort. Fig was garnish on top, so you barely get it. However, I like that they added the sweetness of the figs with the earthy bitter mugwort. Overall, it was uniquely delicious and mugwort was the star. Yuza + Apricot - A tad sweeter than expected due to the outer brush of yuza aka yuzu simple syrup. Loved the chewy apricot on top. It really brought a lovely fruityness to the financier. The yuzu flavor was there alongside the butteryness of the almond cake. All the financiers were done well! Delicious! Recommend trying at least one when you're at this location. Not sure if their financiers are offered at their other locations. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was good. Not terribly friendly, but still answered my questions. Staff were all busy making the drinks. AMBIANCE + SEATS Really large space with rows of tables and chairs. It was strange walking in and seeing various tables and seats to one side and it almost looked like a cafe used as office space. Seeing all the people sitting down on their laptops or talking, as though they're having a casual business meeting there. It was just strange. The tables were mixed wooden tables and chairs. There were long benches too for people waiting for takeout orders. The large space felt so roomy, I get why the tables were all taken. PARKING Street parking is available, yet when I was there in the early afternoon on a Tuesday, it was packed! The only place to park was the paid parking lot right across from Damo. Parking was $5.00. I wouldn't recommend parking elsewhere outside of that street, as it is a sketchy area and lots of homeless encampments around the area. Would I return? Not sure. I like the large, roomy warehouse space with lots of tables to sit in, but the cafe being in a sketchy area gives me hesitation. Not in love with $5.00 parking too. One of my drinks was good, but the other was bad. The only thing I loved was the financiers.
