We went on a day trip to the Santa Rosa area and stopped at La Texanita, located on Sebastopol Road, for a quick bite. As soon as we got out of the car, we remembered that we had been there over seven years ago! It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside, and this time, we didn't order a large meal. We started with a well-made guacamole, each of us had a couple of tacos, and we washed them down with a few glasses of Agua de Jamaica (hibiscus flower tea). I had a Lingua and Carnitas Taco. Both were tasty and full of flavor. I finished with a Flan, which was amazing! It was soft and flavorful. The servers -- three ladies who took care of customers both inside and outside -- were fantastic and helped with all our questions. We really enjoyed our lunch. La Texanita was started in 2004 by Alma Mendez and her sister. They began with a taco truck, using recipes from their mother, before opening the restaurant. In 2009, the restaurant got national recognition when Guy Fieri featured it on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, where he praised their tacos and pozole. It was a Sunday morning and I wanted Menudo! After a quick search on yelp we picked La Texanita. When we walked in, it was closer to noon and it was just the right amount of busy. After we ordered our food came out super quick! We both ordered menudo, mine with hominy, his with pata, both with homemade corn tortillas. Flavor profile was just right and hit the spot. Stopped by on our way home from a Sonoma day trip and visting the Charles Schultz musuem. This was the first time I had a molcajete and was blown away. Take that with a grain of salt however, considering it's the first time I've had it. Tacos were great -- larger than normal tortillas, but the meats we ordered -- al pastor and carnitas -- were AMAZING. So much flavor and very generous with their filling. We came at an off-time, around 3pm, so service was quite attentive as there weren't many other customers. Plus, we got endless basket of chips and salsa. My only gripe is that the salsa they provided were in plastic sauce cups, whereas most other Mexican restaurants I've been to provide it in a bowl. Petty complaint, and nothing to knock a star over. The interior was clean and authentic, and the staff friendly. Will definitely stop by next time I'm back in the area! read more

I remember la texanita from when it was still a taco truck. I've never had bad food here tbh. This time I ordered a birria and it was great. Amount was a bit small but with it. IMO. I absolutely love this place I've been going here since I was a teen. The owner is super sweet and always remembers me. I usually get my usual which is a shrimp burrito. It is delicious! The beans are so creamy and full of flavor and the rice is not over seasoned. Everything wrapped in the flour tortilla just tastes so good! And they grill up the burrito just the way I like it. Some places tend to hardly warm up the tortilla and that really alters the taste of the whole burrito. The sopes, the chilaquiles, the menudo, and the tacos are also quite delicious! The inside is beautifully painted and they have 2 big screen tvs. When it's nice and warm, the patio is a nice seating area. It can get quite busy in the evenings so if you're eating there, there may be a short wait time. read more

Finally, some really good carnitas! Not chopped grislely pork, but yummy carnitas were in the tacos and burritos we ordered. Good service. Clean inside. Loved the carnitas, best I've had around the area and in a long time. I will return. I usually don't enjoy dining this much, and I don't ask for much except good food worth paying for. read more

These guys have been around for 20 years! I been sleeping on em born and raised in Santa Rosa and JUST discovered the best Mexican food spot EVER in Sonoma County. I got the shedded beef flautas and only ate three of the four the first time and I literally could not stop thinking about that fourth flauta all day last Tuesday. Had to grab lunch there on Wednesday, yes I got the same thing because they are amazing! Took my son out for dinner last night and yep I got the flautas again - feels like I'm making up for lost time son got the chilaquiles and cleaned the plate. They made me their version of taco dorado and OMG freaking delish. Needless to say all future meetings will be held here so I can work thru the menu. Went back a fourth time and got the molcajete and tacos dorados plate all phenomenal read more

We wanted to try a new place and this was right down the road from where we were. This is such a little gem! The place is small and cozy and very inviting. They lady at the front was super nice and very attentive. I ordered the rice and beans because i had a tooth pulled and couldn't really eat regular food. My husband got the regular burrito with asada and said it was really good. My daughter got a chile relleno with rice and beans. My family really loved the food! I really enjoyed my rice and beans as well. I'd definitely come back when I can eat regular food! read more

Typically I get their flautas with shredded chicken- those are my absolute favorite but last night I opted for a tostada with carne asada. I was not disappointed! I recently ordered from Door Dash my favorite Mexican food. I called before I ordered my shrimp cocktail and they are so Awesome! They always remember I am the only customer in So. Co. that doesn't like cilantro lol! And they gave me such a generous portion of fresh, tender, plump shrimp and avocado as usual. I have been going to La Texanita since they opened. The owner is so sweet! She made me feel so special for being a loyal customer she enclosed a thank you note. We have vast Mexican cuisine in Santa Rosa..... This is the BEST! A cold, rainy day begs for some hot soup. I was craving posole, so I pulled out my trusty Yelp app and found this place and made a togo order. I very much enjoyed the posole, it was full of great flavor! The only thing I would say, is the serving size looked much larger in the restaurant, I think that has to do with the togo containers they use. The other negative thing is they didn't honor the free soft drink coupon with Yelp check in. They didn't tell me until after they charged me $4.50 on my card for the bottle of Mexican Coke when I informed them I had the coupon before at order. I was told by the hostess their management acted like they had no knowledge of the yelp special. read more

Got to Santa Rosa early for a Yelp Elite Squad event and decide to check out this place since it was featured in Guy Fieri's Triple DDD show many moon ago. I was fortunate to meet the owner, Alma, who wanted to see my Yelp app as it was offering a free soda that she did not authorize with Yelp. No biggy. I then told Alma that I saw her episode on Triple DDD and she was very appreciative that of all the Mexican places in Santa Rosa (and there are a LOT especially on her street alone) that I choose to dine at her restaurant. The ambiance made us feel as if we were in Mexico; all of her staff were super friendly and helpful with our order. We were immediately served with chips and 2 kinds of salsa. We ordered burritos, pork huarache (to me its like a fork & knife Mexican Pizza); Quesabirria (birria tacos with cheese) with beans an rice. Also tried the featured dishes on that Guy Fieri had: Pozole and Carne Asado Tacos with home made tortillas. Everything was so delicious with big portions, so authentic that we felt that we were in Mexico! We were full, even with leftovers as I expected with any Mexican restaurant. Before we left, Alma checked on us to see if everything was OK; and I told her that we had a wonderful dining experience which made her happy. I left that restaurant feeling that I was treated like her family. Definitely will come back here again to try other dishes! La Texanita's nachos are the best in town. So is their Al Pastor. I have never had a problem with an order from them, until tonight. I ordered al pastor nachos and they forgot the al pastor. I called them and they admitted the mistake immediately and offered for me to come and pick up a new al pastor nachos, complementary. Great customer service and very friendly. Everyone makes mistakes but not everyone owns up to it and deals with it they way they did. I can't recommend La Texanita enough!! read more

It was fun to get out for another patio dining with hubby, good friend and of course our 2 fur babies! I have dined at La Texanita many times over the years, but I think I have failed to review! Me Bad! The food is always delicious. The service is always so quick and friendly. During covid, they rigged up an outdoor patio, however it is pretty noisy as it is right next to Sebastopol Road with some very loud cars! This time we ordered a veggie burrito, shrimp tostada, lengua (tongue) taco, and a big size shrimp cocktail. The veggie burrito was rich and creamy, hubby loved his lengua taco and shrimp cocktail. I think they goofed up my order and gave me a shrimp taco instead of a shrimp tostada. Tortillas are good though and the filling was great. I just really wanted my tostada! But I let it go, we had a very nice and quiet lunch as we went after the lunch crowd. I will always continue to come back to La Texanita. read more

I hear the burritos are huge and good here. However, I didn't want a burrito and opted for something for light so got a fish and shrimp taco. I was really surprise about the fish. It was heavily breaded, no flavor, dry, and cut up in pieces. The shrimp taco was good. But both tortillas ripped and was so messy to eat. I don't recommend the fish taco. The horchata was really good. We waited 15 min for our food, they only had one cook and one cashier during a lunch hour. read more
