The Stock was low... the food and gift section used to have much more inventory and has since dwindled down to just a few items, many of which you can get on Amazon cheaper. The fresh products, hams and cheeses is the deli case are worth a gander. We did buy some cookies, olive oil, and candy. It would be nice if they had empanadas on the menu... we had just visited Spain and were looking forward to some authentic food. Really cool restaurant just outside central Williamsburg. The restaurant is made up of several different rooms. We were in the room with the bar, which was nice. We had already eaten a hearty lunch that day, so the small plates were perfect. We started with the apple salad. The blue cheese in the salad was delicious. Very strong, which is what I like. It maybe could have used some more dressing though. Next came the sautéed shrimp. A simple preparation with plenty of garlic. Then came the chicken kebabs and the patatas bravas. The kebabs were fine. Maybe my favorite dish of the night was the patatas bravas. I loved the smoked paprika in the dish. I need to buy some of that for home! Finally, we got the fried eggplant with honey. That dish was spot-on. The eggplant was sliced paper thin and was nice and crunchy. We were worried about the addition of honey, but it really worked. On the 4th of July, while in Colonial Williamsburg, I decided to try La Tienda for a special tapas dinner based on a local's suggestion. The beautiful weather enhanced the patio dining experience, and the host was very accommodating in moving my table. The tapas portions were satisfying, though I found the dishes leaned towards the saltier side. I tried the lamb meatball paella special, which I thought was lacking in flavor. However, the service was outstanding. La Tienda is ideal for a leisurely dinner with scenic views, but the pricing is a bit steep. read more

Yesterday I was in Williamsburg and came upon this restaurant. I had not had authentic Spanish food in 30+ years. I was delightfully pleased with my tapas dishes. I ordered garlic, shrimp and mussels in a fennel sauce, as well as some bread with olives. And afterwards I had flan for dessert. We have now eaten here twice. It was so good the first time that we drove an hour to eat here the second time. We will definitely be back. The bread and olives is amazing. It's imported from Spain and of the best olive oil I've ever had. In the US or abroad. The meat balls were so flavorful. I could eat the sauce like a soup. Huge fan of La Tienda. I always drive past this spot but always seem to forget to go there. Finally, with some folks in town, we decided to give it a try. Glad we did!!! This place is best suited for groups of 4 or less as the goal is everyone gets a small plate and then it gets passed around the table. We had three in our party and sampled a bunch of different things on the menu. My favorite by a mile was the bacon wrapped dates with stuffed cheese. I think I could've eaten 100 of these things. They are so good and I would come back just to get this dish. My other highlight was the lightly fried eggplant (pictured). It comes drizzled in honey. This light dish is very tasty. The bread and olive oil is good but pretty basic. The shrimp is also good and the sauce base acts as a great vessel to dip the bread in. Among other things we ordered, the mussels present a great value as you get a lot of them and they taste nice and fresh. The Rellenos were also good but not as great an option for sharing if you have more than three. Finally, the sliced chorizo was fine. I wouldn't get it again. For desert they were unfortunately out of the cheesecake so we got the almond cake. It was light with some nice lemon/orange zest on top. Overall, I love this place. First, I suggest starting with a pitcher of Sangria...if you're not driving get the LARGE. I prefer the red sangria, the wife loves the red and white. Our ladies gathered here for our luncheon and we were able to socialize and dine all together. They were very accommodating and even provided separate checks. Three of us shared the daily special Paella which was Chicken and Shrimp along with the Bocadillo, Jamon and Manchego. As they say in Spain, "eating without working should not be tolerated." Therefore, we worked hard all week to drive to Williamsburg to find a hidden gem to eat. Special thanks to Trinity, the hostess, for accommodating us while the restaurant was busy and short staffed. She did a great job setting good expectations while we waited and checked us out for items we bought at the market; she even took our order for food and wine before our table was ready. Communication between Trinity and the waitress was superb as the food and wine came out steadily as we enjoyed each other's company! I love the decor at this restaurant from the colorful plates on the table to the paintings on the wall and Jamon hanging over the fireplace in the store market area; not to mention all of the food items you can buy from saffron to a whole paella kit. If we lived in the area, we would be regulars to buy the jamon, chorizos, cheese and wine. Can't wait to go home and try to make a paella! The Carolina shrimps were large and cooked just right in the savory white wine sauce with plenty of garlic sprinkled with parsley and dried pepper flakes topped with with a piece of Galacian bread. Paired with the Albariño Nessa was perfect as the lemon and citrus notes really enhanced the flavor of the Gambas shrimps and other seafood tapas! The steamed clams were cooked just right and not too chewy with plenty if chorizo to compliment the flavors topped with lots of garlic, onions and peppers. Finally, the chicken and chorizo paella came out and didn't disappoint as the calasparra rice soaked up the savory juices with the smoked paprika given the paella some heat with a decadent mix of saffron to color the rice yellow complemented by the green beans and red piquillo peppers! Can't wait to come back again to try the seafood paella, jamon, cheeses and cured meats! Maybe we will get a chance to eat outdoors and imagine we are back in Spain! Absolutely recommend as this place transforms you to Spain! This is our go to spot in Williamsburg. Tried several of their dishes, all excellent! Garlic shrimp (and they mean garlic) is a must if you love seafood. I'd recommend ordering some bread with it as this tapa does not come with it and you will need to soak up the delicious sauce they are cooked in. We order the olive and bread appetizer with it, olives are very good, but not pitted, kept in mind. Can also get bread rubbed with garlic and tomato, so tasty! The other must is the eggplant tapa, fried but paper thin with a drizzle of honey. Have never seen or tried anything like this before anywhere else, so unique and flavorful! Other tapas and foods we tried here and all are absolutely delicious (in order of preference): chicken kabobs, tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned, fried potatoes, fried ham croquettes, crunchy outside with melt in your mouth filling, sautéed mushrooms, so good, special of the day soup, mine was ham and bean, pork meatballs as a tapa or as a half sandwich, ham (jamon) half sandwich, kid friendly, if needed, baked piquillo peppers and of course, paella. Their wine list is pretty extensive and they have excellent red wine, though their sangria is popular. Almond cake and churros are the best if you can still eat dessert after all the other food. I can not say enough how much we enjoy this place. The staff is great, very helpful and friendly, the atmosphere is just perfect, they do have outside seating too, on a gorgeous day, it is perfection, and the prices are just right, especially for the quality of food. My husband was craving food from Spain and ask me if I wanted to venture onto the peninsula. Located in Williamsburg, close to Jamestown. Tapas means shareable plate or snack from Spain. I LOVE La Tienda! We celebrated Thanksgiving in Spain two years ago with a jamon feast so we wanted to re-create that for our Easter celebration this year with stay-at-home orders and COVID-19. We got the jamon iberico and jamon iberico de bellota. I absolutely loved the nutty and acorn taste of the bellota. It just melted in my mouth like butter. The jamon iberico was delightful - nutty like cheese and such a great mouth-feel. We also ordered the razor clams and padron peppers from La Tienda. I didn't know how well I could re-create the char on the peppers at home, but I just followed the instructions and they turned out scrumptious. It's always a gamble to see which ones will be extra spicy and which ones will be sweet. We had a feast with some home-made foccacia and some olives to the mix. I've never visited the store front, but all my past orders have been great. The shipping is always prompt and the quality is amazing. Almost everyday they offer a special. Thursday's are half off desserts after 4pm and also a special on Sangria. This was my first time enjoying this restaurant with a friend. Everything we ordered was amazing especially the eggplant I highly recommend even if you are a big meat person. If you like savory this dish is especially for you. They also made our sprite fancy by adding fruit to it. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to our server. She was nice and an older lady but some comments she made rubbed us wrong. We didnt have water for about 10-15 mins and We had to ask someone else if we can get water. This wasn't our first time at La Tienda so we thought it would be a terrific experience for our visiting guests. We booked a table for eight a prepared for a wonderful time. Although we requested the sitting room, we were seated elsewhere. Then the horrors began. After taking our drink orders, we e expected our dinner orders to follow when the drinks arrived. When we got our drinks after a very, very long wait, the waiter disappeared. When he finally returned, and took our tappas orders for the entire table. We waited quite a while (about 15 mintues) when he returned with two of the orders. Fortuantely tapas are sharing type of a serving although small servings, we shared. We expected our other folks orders to arrive shortly. They didn't. Finally I got up searching for the waiter and told him about our horrible wait (now about 45 minuttes!) and we were thing of leaving. He said they were under staffed. This was the festive holiday season and staffing should have anticipated their work load. Finally only partially order was again completed. The paella arrived at the very last. Our orders were only doled out piecemeal to everyone at the table This is not how a joyous dinner that all the guests could share. The food was OK and the waiter gaves us a 20 percent break, but that didn't make up for the lack of service, we would have ordered more if things things weren't so glacial. Upon leaving I requested to talk to the manager. The boy (young teenager) at the register said there was not one there. I asked for the owners name, he did not know, I asked for a business card of La Tienda and he looked but could not find any. Wow, what an unpleasant experience and with all of our out of town friends. We started off with the horchata drink and my husband got a beer. I didn't like the horchata, all I could taste was alcohol. I should've gotten the sangria which was on special for 50% off a pitcher on Wednesday's. We ordered calamari, seafood paella and churros for dessert. The calamari was delicious! It was had great seasoning and was extra crispy! The paella was a big dish that could be shared with 3-4 people. They were very generous with the seafood and had very big sized shrimp in it. It had a fishy taste that I didn't like but overall it wasn't bad. We finished with churros. The churro was ok, I personally like the ones at Costco better but the chocolate dip... OMG it was to die for! I kept dipping my finger in it after I finished the churros. Our waitress was friendly and was very helpful. Service was good and I have no complaints. Made a reservation for 3 at 5pm on Saturday for my fiancée's birthday. Seated right away. Very friendly staff and a very vintage/foreign look on the inside. Started with happy hour sangria. Option for red or white. Very strong and worth it. The winner of the night was the patatas bravas. The aioli was super creamy and delicious. Croquetas were a close second. Deep fried cheesy/ham filled potato. The garlic bread was third! A nice toast with sensational garlic/butter flavors. The special chicharrones were definitely a hit for the table too.
