We had the pleasure of eating at La Tolteca. Our server, Carlos, was absolutely fantastic. The restaurant was so beautiful. Each chair and table was a work of art. The food was phenomenal. I had La Tolteca Fajitas. Fantastic. Three tortillas, rice, beans and salad. But what set it apart was that there was steak, chicken, and shrimp. I've never had a protein mix like that. The salsa and chips were made on site and I think it was just about the best salsa I've ever had. My husband had enchiladas. Beef tips, ground beef and chicken. It was covered in three sauces. We've found it!! This place is great. Awesome food and drinks. Oscar was fabulous. We got our chips and salsa, drink, and meals super fast. I came here with some friends for dinner and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It wasn't crowded during our visit. Everyone on the staff was very friendly. The food was ok. It wasn't really anything to rave about, but I see why this is a local staple for many. The prices and portions are a good value. We enjoyed their margarita offerings. None of us were fans of the creamy salsa/white sauce that comes with the chips - it tasted sour and the seasoning didn't mesh well. When we asked for a regular salsa as a replacement, our server was kind about it and said that she knows that many people don't like it. The wings were good. We tried the Strawberry and Mango virgin daiquiri, and also the Strawberry virgin daiquiri. I ended up liking the Strawberry best -- it tasted the most fruity. The shrimp dip with the tortilla chips was delicious. I ordered the Quesabirria, which was tasty, but I expected it to be more like a cheesy quesadilla. Unfortunately, it didn't come with cheese. The dipping sauce that came with it was very good, though. We also had the Shrimp Fajitas, which were flavorful as well. The restaurant has a family-oriented atmosphere with a mix of all ages. A downside was that the bench behind us was broken, so whenever the people behind us moved, our seat shifted too. La Tolteca is a good option for Mexican in the Crofton, MD area. They offer your traditional Mexican fare and some American-influenced dishes for those who don't yet appreciate authentic Mexican flavors. I've only purchased tacos here. Served on corn tortillas, the tacos are good. However, I wasn't a fan of the al pastor tacos; the pineapple was too prominent, sweet, and the meat was so runny it was borderline messy. The carne asada was delicious. There is an efficient takeout ordering operation which is separate from the dining room. There is also ample seating in the dining room and adequate parking as this place is a stand-alone brick and mortar with its own parking lot. Overall a good experience. read more

For drinks we got Cadillac margaritas and they were strong and made perfectly. Service was quick and staff was friendly. They had Mexican music playing, which set the mood. No matter how much I try out Mexican food in the NCR, it just disappoints. Living in San Antonio, I'm terribly biased about Mexi-food. The service here was great, our waiter checked on us regularly and was friend. When we asked for salsa, we got more salsa. When we asked for a box, they got us a box... honestly, you get a lot of food here... portion sizes are generous. The ambiance is like any other Mexican place that overdoes the taco. What I mean is pinatas hanging from the ceiling, lots of festive colors, and thematic benches and table tops. The staff will place the standard chips and salsa on the table. The salsa is fresh and chunky. My carne asada especial plate came with to pieces of steak, avocado salad, spanish rice, and refried beans. What did the plate under was what tasted like store bought tortillas. Unimpressive, would I try the same plate again... probably not. Would I try something else? Hmmm. The Modelo Negra was cold and the steak wasn't overdone. Remember the NCR is lacking in Mexican food flavors... the Toltec is about par for the area. read more

I went here with my family after a day trip traveling from Philly. We landed here by chance and I would never come back. Food was good and service seemed nice at first but when it came time to pay, I gave my debit card. They charged my card and then never brought my card back to me. I asked the waitress for it and she said she gave it back (she didn't). I talked to management who also didn't have an answer and claimed I was given my card back (I was not nor did anyone I was traveling with get my card either). I looked all over the floor, dumped my purse out and was just baffled. Someone on their staff took my card. I essentially shut my card off and left the restaurant. Don't risk it here, not worth it. I feel like they have a lot of potential. We were able to make it in a few minutes before happy hour was over with and took advantage of their house Margarita and crunchy tacos. When I saw the sign outside that authentic Mexican I got so excited. When you walk in you're greeted by so many different Mexican decorations it takes you back. The next time I come back perhaps I'll try their actual street tacos and get a sense of the authenticity because the crunchy tacos with cheese and lettuce just didn't do it for me. That Margarita was definitely strong and I love the fact that to him they used was different. I feel like it had flaky salt and I'm unsure if they make it in house themselves. I wish I could have snatched some up for my purse to use for my next Margarita version. They did have a lot of TV so it would be good place to watch games or any sporting event. read more

I recently placed a carryout order from this restaurant, choosing the Mexican Burrito entrée. According to both their online and in-store menus, the entrée was supposed to include two burritos, various fixings, rice, and beans. However, what I received was a major disappointment: two soggy burritos, no rice or beans, and a handful of stale tortilla chips. I live 45 minutes away, and by the time I got home, I was starving and looking forward to a full meal. Unfortunately, not only was my order incomplete, but it also did not match the description that had been confirmed when I placed the order in person. I called the restaurant immediately and spoke with someone who claimed to be the manager. I explained the situation, referencing my receipt and the menu descriptions. He insisted that rice and beans were not included with the burrito entrée. Despite my attempts to clarify, he dismissed my concerns and stood by what he claimed was on their menu--even though it clearly contradicted both their printed and online materials. This experience left me feeling misled and frustrated. With the current high cost of food, I try to support small businesses, but this one will never get my business again. I will also be warning friends and family about their false advertising and poor customer service. It's especially troubling in a time when some restaurants have been accused of using old food or cutting corners--and unfortunately, my experience with this place felt like a firsthand example. read more

The food at this whole in the wall type of place is surprisingly yummy! I think its too expensive tho. The guacamole is excellent!!! I'm planning to order a large batch for a party I'm hosting. Food: ~ Chicken Wings - the plain wings were better than the Buffalo, so if we ever ordered them again, I would get the plain fried wings. ~ Stuffed Shrimp - it was fried shrimp stuffed with cheese, and it was delicious ~ Steak Quesadillas - full of steak and it was all tender ~ Hard & Soft Tacos - I prefer the soft over the hard, both were really good! ~ Chorizo Dip - The chorizo dip was hot (not spicy, but came to the table hot) and was full of chorizo once we mixed it Also, side note, the bathroom was one of the best bathrooms I've been too in the last couple is months. Yesterday Sunday June 8th my friend and I were in the area and we decided to stop by and have lunch and I been in others mexican restaurant and I think this one in Crofton MD the best I been in year. Service was excellent and the food was so fresh and delicious. The place is beautiful decorate. We are from Saint Mary's county and we drove 48 miles and was worth it to stop by for the first time...but won't be the last one we planning to come back again. I ordered a chicken chimichanga (fried) and a chicken quesadilla from La Tolteca via Uber Eats. The chicken was tough and chewy because it wasn't fresh and certainly wasn't prepared properly. They dump a ton of sour cream over the top (see picture) which rendered everything soggy. The quesadilla had nothing on it, but it was soggy as well. I honestly haven't had food this disappointing in a while. I went from hoping I could have a go-to spot for food to knowing I would never pay money for this again. Busy place with hard working folks. Extensive menu at reasonable prices. However - the prices on the menu are not correct and the establishment does point this out. I recognize menu printings are expensive but if you order here you are signing a blank check. This set up may be ok for a transition but if you decide to raise the prices you should get new menus.
