Rafa and his team knocked it out of the park last night. With only one day's notice, they accommodated a party of 19 for a birthday dinner and made the entire experience seamless. We opted for a pre-fixed menu, which kept everything running smoothly. The food was absolutely delicious. The esquites were the best I've had--I'm not sure what kind of aioli was on them, but it was incredible. Our menu included esquites, huitlacoche empanadas, taquitos dorados, al pastor and carne asada tacos, rice and beans, churros, flan, and arroz con leche. Every dish was a hit. The restaurant is small, lively, and thoughtfully decorated, creating a great atmosphere for a celebration. Most importantly, all 19 people left happy, full, and talking about the food. I'm so glad we chose this spot to celebrate a friend's birthday. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in San Francisco. read more

The reviews were pretty good so I decided to try it. After I ate I wondered if everyone's tastebuds were broken or if it was mine that were broken. I ordered the chicken and steak fajitas. The chicken was thighs, I never would have ordered chicken if I'd know it wasn't going to be breast. And the worst part, no flavor! Like none. The steak was the same, there was no flavor it seemed. The rice and beans were also pretty flavorless. I got the smallest dollop of guacamole, it was probably the best thing on the plate. I was served a tiny bowl of chips, a tiny container of pico and a tiny container or salsa, also very underwhelming when it came to taste. I don't normally do this but I am re posting a review because it's that good. I can see my last review was almost exactly a year ago. I have tried most things on the menu and have been about 8 times I think. I haven't been in a while though. Tonight, I was blown away by how good everything was. It seems like it is even better than last time. The heat level on the food seems like it got turned up so now everything has a real nice kick to it. When I say everything is spiced to perfection I mean it. That is some of the most perfectly spiced food I have had anywhere. I had a mole burrito with chicken. People were oogling it all over the restaurant. This beauty came absolutely smothered with mole sauce and drizzled with creme fraiche or sour cream. The first bite of that mole was like the scene in Ratatouille where the guy is immediately transported to his youth and has a surreal experience. This was like that. It didn't transport me to my childhood because I never had food this good as a child but I felt like being in a small diner somewhere in Guatemala or something being served some home cooked mole that had been simmering for days. I simply can't believe how good that mole was. Wow. We also had the potato taquitos and esquites. Both total perfection. This place gets a BOMB rating from me, hands down. read more

Went into La Travesia for an early dinner with some coworkers and it's a tiny but chill restaurant near the Financial District in SF. I got there a little early and staff greeted me and let me sit at our reserved table/asked if I'd like anything to drink which was nice. Onto the food... The warm crispy tortilla chips and salsa that came out at the beginning was great. You could tell it was all house made. If I ever see quesabirria as an option, I jump. It's not easy to find so I assume when I see it that it'll be amazing but sadly it didn't quite hit here. It was good, but it could have been better. When it comes out it looks like it would be bursting with flavor between the consomme, lime to squeeze, pickled onions and radish, and the quesabirria itself. Surprisingly though, the flavors were pretty muted :(. The consomme had a nice consistency but it and the meat were lacking rich flavor which is what I'd expect for this dish. It was okay when I first went there. The food isn't excellent just good. I had gone several times before. The last time I went there and when I went to pay my bill. They had the audacity to ask me to pay a bill of another one of their customers. I demanded to see the bill which they swore was mine. The bill showed another person's name with an Amercan Express charge card. I don't have an American Express card. They felt because I had gone there before and left good tips, they could simply ask me to pay the bills for other customers. Disgusting. DON'T GO THERE. read more

I love going here because of the delicous food served. You would have to come find out for yourself. If I can bring Mom here and she enjoys it a lot you would to. I had a special dish called Costillas de puerco en salsa asada. The following time I had Al Pastor Super Burrito and Mom had her favorite Carne Asada Quesadilla!!! Came in for dinner and was surprised on how warm the interior felt. I sat down near the kitchen and was able to see the chefs prep for food! The waitress was very kind and help when I asked for recommendations. When Sat, she brought out a bowl of chips and salsa! A place I'd recommend confident you'd likely like it regardless who you are. That being said the flavors are slightly toned down to an Americanized palette. I've mostly had their burrito's (to-go) which is not their specialty. It's a sit down restaurant with lots of plates options which look great & I've seen many people enjoy. A real hole in the wall in the Tenderloin, and a gem for sure. My friend and I grabbed a late lunch at La Travesia. The service was great, I really appreciate how the server gave good recommendations! The space had plenty of seating and had cute decorations. The server brought chips and salsa to start. It took a while to get the food, but the portions were huge! I got the huevos rancheros with Al pastor, and my friend got chilaquiles with salsa verde. I was sooo happy with the large potion and how they used hella eggs. The avocado was fresh too. They serve "breakfast/brunch" all day so I was stoked for that. I first tried this spot after getting a haircut nearby and liked it enough that I had to come back a second time just to confirm the burrito really hit. Happy to say it did. Both visits were solid. Very small place a few steps down from the street. Super friendly staff and the menu was very authentic as was the informal ambiance , catering to both the more conservative diets to the adventurous.
