There are some vindictive, bitter, angry clients…read morewho will blame anyone but themselves; and treatment centers and their staff tend to be a go-to target for abuse and retaliation. In short, Annandale worked for me. Short story made long: Like any treatment center, you will get out what you put in though. But a good treatment center will give you all the tools, support and understanding you need. And that is what Annandale provides: a structure and foundation for your success, which you build on once you leave. All the various treatment center bells, whistles and accoutrements don't matter without a good staff/therapists on hand to guide and support. Luckily, Annandale has both. The program itself focuses not only on getting sober/maintaining sobriety, but also on modifying negative thought patterns and the troublesome behavior that arises as a result. They know that you must focus on the problem itself, not just the symptoms, in order to recover. Drinking is a symptom of a deeper rooted issue. They also offer some unique elements to the program, such as equine therapy and soundbaths. I scoffed initially, but kept an open mind. And guess what? It was a great help. Other groups/activities included yoga, meditation, mindfulness walks, nature walks, art, gardening, etc. They take you to 12 step recovery meetings, but Annandale itself is non-denominational as far as I could gather. Which is a plus in my book. Great location in Pasadena. Right up the street from the Rose Bowl, where you'll take walks some days. Other walks go a block or two in the other direction and offer absolutely breathtaking panoramic views of the Rose Bowl, Pasadana and its environs, mountain ranges etc. It's truly a sight to behold. The house and its campus are extremely serene and quiet. The house is comfortable, a comfy "home" vibe with people that genuinely care. A special feeling to it. Doesn't feel like some "facility". Private bedrooms with their own flat screen TVs. Almost all have their own private bathroom. You get to place takeout lunch and dinner choices (with a mind towards healthy options from some great restaurants) on the iPad every day (which is included with your stay). But more than anything, it is the staff that makes or breaks the place. All complete professionals with experience and knowledge. Darryl is the owner and possibly the first person you'll speak to. a very kind, caring, genuine, astute and just cool guy. Very helpful and personable. I was in a bad way when I initially called and Darryl was an immeasurable help in easing my concerns and providing comfort in a very distressful time in my life. Remy, the on-site nurse, is extremely attentive and understanding. Dr Coe is one of the most brilliant doctors I've ever had the pleasure of speaking with--the guy pulled things out that shocked me, things that no doctor-therapist/psychiatrist has been able to reach or decipher in all my years. He gave me a true, unbridled diagnosis of where my issues stemmed from. My wife of 20 years co-signed what he said with a very troubling passion (haha). Said he was spot-on, and he was. Roxanne is one of the kindest and most lovely people I've ever met. The most gentle eyes, emphatic tone -- a truly calming presence who offered me immeasurable support so thank you . Jordan was relatable, friendly and easy to talk to. Very intelligent and understanding of how addiction and sobriety work. Kevin, one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Michael, who became a genuine friend and somebody I could always talk to -- and was always willing to listen. Becky, Carrie, Xenia, Alex, Chris and I know I'm missing a few, but really, everyone was great and offered their own unique approach/personality. This place quite literally saved my life. Rosa is the best therapist I've ever had; through our sessions she was able to help me discover more about the underlying issues I have and has helped me overcome a lot of the trauma I've experienced in my life. She even helped my dog get through a lot of his own trauma! Jamie is such a cool and chill person to hangout with! She comes in on the weekends and helps coordinate our groups with fun activities and taking us to church on Sunday! Eddie is such a great chef; he comes in during the week to prepare us all our own lunches and dinner! That man can make some really good food! I had lost my way and the light inside me. My time at launch was reformative, informational, emotional, uplifting and inspirational. After a short time at Launch, I started to believe in myself again. In my addiction, the people places and things I surrounded myself with brought out the worst in me. At Launch, I felt safe, comfortable and supported every day, which allowed me to open up, talk through difficult things I was experiencing/ have experienced and never felt judged. I started to feel hope for the future and the light inside me turned back on. I gained such important tools that I was able to implement in my life to function as a healthy adult. (I graduated a month ago and have a job that I love, a fellowship, friends, a relationship with my family and an inner peace I have never experienced before this) The staff is AMAZING and each member positively impacted me on my journey. I was never turned away, felt pushed aside or unheard. Provided lunch/yummy snacks and coffee throughout the day was such a life saver. Help with my resume and job hunting was extremely appreciated. They actually do it all! The staff goes above and beyond for each person who walks through the door. I had no idea what to expect, but this place is a unicorn. From the…read moremoment I (nervously) walked in, I could tell that the staff genuinely cared about what I was going thru and wanted me to get well. They made me instantly feel welcomed and comfortable, and throughout my stay I grew even more appreciative for the compassion and skill level of the staff. Their approach is very holistic and expands far beyond just the 12 steps. We learned meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, acupuncture, among many other things. The therapists are the best I've ever spoken with. I had 2 assigned to me including a trauma therapist who helped me work through issues I had never really spoken about with anyone before, helping connect my childhood trauma with my substance abuse issues, and giving me the tools to deal with it. The house is very spacious and comfortable with a giant pool and hot tub, and we had time to relax and match movies and hang out. I laughed a lot with the other clients and had more fun than I ever would have imagined in rehab and made new friends that I've continued to stay friends with after leaving. Beyond just getting clean, the Villa gave me the breakthroughs and tools I needed to stay sober and taught me how to enjoy life, laugh, and have fun without needing alcohol and for that I'm forever grateful. Looking back, I'm so incredibly grateful I decided to stick with The Villa. Georgia is amazing. She has always been so understanding and welcoming, I can't thank her enough. The Villa has the best staff, facilitators and even alumnis that I still keep in touch with today. They are now part of my family and I feel so lucky ! I will be forever grateful for them. Today I have six months sober and I can honestly say I have a totally different perspective on life than I had going in. This program has given me hope and helped me find a purpose in life.
