One of the best kept secret in Johnson City. The food is actually delicious. The sushi is incredible, the sushi chefs came from another restaurant and have their own little spot in the back. They are one of the few restaurants that have multiple vegetarian options in both food and sushi. Burgers, appetizers, sides. All yummy. You're not stuck ordering the one vegetarian option in the whole place! They have so many options for you! Even before covid, their host staff was super snooty and sometimes hateful. We often got ignored by the host when coming in to eat. And they are super irritated when you come to pick up takeout. Lol, sorry I like the food here! ----But don't let that hold you back, I've never had a bad server there. And the food has always come out delicious. Went to this restaurant on two different occasions. Both waitresses were very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing..I had the steak and eggs which were probably the best steak and eggs I've ever had. Most breakfast steaks are some cheap cut..this restaurant used a very large rib eye. The potatoes were crisp and are seasoned perfectly. The wife said the omlete was light and fluffy and a great price for the amounted given. The steak was prettiest steep for a breakfast but was well worth it. I'm not a fan of fried pickles but the wife said they were good. 1st time to this restaurant, tried the sushi for an app, just ok, not as fresh as it should be. My husband said his burger was amazing and his fries were delicious. But, if you try the guest cider, gypsy chi tea, you will not be disappointed, it was the highlight of my dinner. Legit brunch menu for the Tri Cities area. We drove almost an hour to try it out and will definitely be back. The $2 mimosas are yummy and the loaded home fries are To. Die. For. Fried potatoes topped with bacon and a house made queso... What more could you want out of life?!.... Perhaps the Chicken and Waffles with Mike's HOT chicken . It will light you up so if you don't like spicy, avoid. It's very similar to a Nashville hot style and is superb combined with the waffle and topped with maple syrup. You will not be disappointed. The biscuits and gravy is tasty and Phil's Breakfast is a good choice if you want something hardy and carb heavy. Breakfast bowl anyone? My wife and I went to celebrate our anniversary and to have some nice food. First the walk in, this was a late lunch timeframe. The layout was really nice and modern. There was hardly anyone on the restaurant because of the between lunch and dinner, still had to wait 15-20 mins for some reason. The service was "ok" she took our drink order and it came out pretty quick. I ordered water and she ordered a Mr. Pibb. The waitress did keep our glasses fairly full, thus the one star. Ordered fried pickles which I thought were ok but my wife like them so they were really good. Wife ordered the surf and turf and I ordered a burger. Hers was med rare and mine med well. They came just the opposite. Ground burger, medium rare makes no sense filet mignon medium well it makes no sense but that's the way we got it. I'm burger in many places was still bleeding and for ground beef that's a no no. There was actually blood ahead, soaked into the bun from the meat. I can eat almost anything that I have and I found this disgusting. The shrimp on the surf and turf is cooked well, but has zero seasoning her filet mignon had zero seasoning with the exception of a branch of rosemary laying on top of it. I got the garlic Parmesan fries and they were really good with the exception of the ones laying on the plate they were laying in a pool of their own grease. I have ordered regular fries, and again they were laying in a pool of their own grease on her plate. I forgot there was a salad that my wife had ordered and it was OK. She did not care for the croutons but that can be personal preference. We were going to order a desert, but given the lack of luster from the meal, thus far we decided against it. This is sad considering the food on their site looked really appetizing their menu look really inviting, but this was a total let down. $80 bill for over cook steak severely undercooked burger in unseasoned food!! Unfortunately this restaurant, along with the majority of the stir fry group, has gone down hill. The water was heinous and management needs to figure out what they're doing. American Label is one of the better offerings in the Johnson city area when either looking for some cocktails or dinner. Located near the ETSU campus, the place is perpetually busy and for good reason. The vibe is always upbeat / energetic and i like a bar area that has a lot of activity. Bartenders are spot-on and attentive - a huge plus in my book as there is normally a wait for a table and I like to have that waiting time with a drink in hand. The wait, as previously mentioned, can be a bit depending on the night of the week, particularly Wednesday night which is half-price sushi night. The menu is decently sized and frankly, I have never had a bad meal in the place whether it was sushi, burgers, apps or anything else. We normally start out with 2-4 apps depending on the size of the crew I am with. Apps sizes are larger than expected and definitely large enough to share. Entrees range from Sushi, salads, fish and hand helds like burgers and chicken sandwiches. There are other entrée items- too numerous to list here. With the large selection, there shouldn't be anyone who can't find something to please their palate. This is definitely a great dinner place, date destination or just to sit and imbibe in some cocktails and snacks. One of my favorite places to eat in Johnson city! I would recommend making a reservation a day in advanced because it's always super crowded. Has a good bar area that if you can find a seat to sit at you can eat there too. The best day to go in my opinion is Saturday because they have 5 dollar glasses of wine, this makes it worth it in my opinion. The food is pricey but good! GET THE CHEFS PASTA it is seriously SO GOOD! It's a pesto cream based with loads of veggies and I always add chicken and actually get sad when it's gone. The Thai chicken sandwich is also good and def get it with the Parmesan fries! Could've been WAY better! Pretty disappointing actually for a first try. Food was decent at best. DEFINATELY NOT $90.00 meal. 1st meal steak- very dry, decent flavor, but when asked for steak sauce, waitress says she doesn't know if they have any, goes to check and received no response and obviously no steak sauce (ketchup may have been a plus at that point). Mashed potato was ONLY that- flavorless, no butter or salt (very bland). Brussel sprouts were good. NOT a $42 meal! *Would actually like to know if there was any steak sauce in the building. 2nd meal- waitress messed up, tried to correct, but over charged for the mistake. Was supposed to be Blackened salmon entree that came on grits and asparagus $19, added brussel sprouts $4.00. Received salmon and brussel sprouts ONLY. I expected the entree as was listed, I did not ask for any changes, just an additional side. She did bring me all the items after my salmon was half eaten and ended up charging me full price and $4.00 more than should have been. The salmon, brussel sprouts, grits were good once my husband had to snag salt and pepper from a recently vacated table because NOTHING had salt in it. And no offer of getting us any. Asparagus tasted like plastic (not good, and too big stalks). But should have been charged ($19+$4=$23 total) was charged ($19+$4+$4=$27) for a mistake, no discount, no offer to correct, but overcharged. 3. June Carter Martini was great, I think a little too expensive, but I knew what I was being charged for it, which is a compliment as other restaurants don't put cost on menu. 4. Ambiance was too loud and dark. Was blinded for about 5 minutes by the 6 gentlemen best us ALL with their phone lights on to see the menu. No fault to them as we had to turn ours on also and they eventually turned theirs off. 5. Drink refills were sparse if at all. Should not have to ask or wait on refills. Ultimately, I would NOT recommend and doubt seriously that I would go back. We gave it an honest 1st try, lesson learned. I would pay this price gladly for other top 3 rated restaurants in JC (Gourmet Co,; Juniper). This is NOT same caliber and definitely not worth the money. read more

Normally Tennessee Sushi in the spring would be a little iffy, but my Dynamite roll was pretty good. My Drunken Goat burger was packed with flavor -- the combination of the thick goat cheese with the Buffalo Trace blackberry jam (which is, in itself, a combination for the ages) made the burger stand out over the others I've had. Sweet potato fries were a little too cooked; would've liked if they were softer. But our Garlic fries appetizer made up for that. Label is a great restaurant in the downtown area. We came here twice in the four days we spent here. Really excellent burgers and awesome shrimp and grits. The sushi was good but nothing special however I have a high standard for sushi. The beer selection is great and they have a good bar menu with lots of cocktails. Our servers both times were great and always attentive. I had the bacon clucker sandwich the second time and opted not to double cluck it for a dollar more. Mistake. Do the double cluck as the chicken filet is thin. In fact, remove that option, charge the extra buck, make it a double and rename it the Mother Clucker. :) Probably the best place to have a beer or a craft cocktail and grab bite in Johnson City. read more

I really dig the confortable, relaxed, yet contemporary chic vibe of this restaurant. I was able to try a few different things on their menu and while there are definitely some items that were a major let down, I still gave them a five star rating because a few of their menu items greatly exceded my expectations. The star of my meal was the Drunken Goat Burger. I am so glad I ordered this item as it is a great example of a perfectly delectable tasty burger with the ultimate combination of savory and sweet. And if goat cheese and jam aren't your type of burger toppings I would safely bet their other burgers are equally fantastic as the patties are thick, juicy, and well seasoned. So many specialty burger places fail to grasp these 3 burger essentials. The crab rangoon appetizer was also pleasantly delicious however I wasn't thrilled that the sauce was not in a ramekin but directly on the plate. This sort of sauce swabbing is not ideal when sharing an appetizer at the table and thus made it a little awkward to eat for our party. They have several options of margaritas but I opted for the basic margarita, all were a flat $10. It was good. The mojito I ordered however was not so good. They used a spearmint in substitution for regular mint and so this mojito was the closest to drinking mouthwash that I have ever tasted. The cheesecake with the blackberry compote for desert was also equally heavenly and I can't wait to try their other desert options. The low point of my meal was the sushi roll I ordered. Their sushi items really seem out of place with the rest of the menu and vibe. Having worked at some high end sushi restaurants I have certain expectations for what qualifies for good sushi rolls. I ordered a dynamite roll which is stuffed with fried shrimp. Any fried items I expect to be hot and prepared fresh to order. The fried shrimp was cold and unsatisfying and so was the entire roll for that matter. I would compare it to the same quality you would get at a grocery store. So please, if you are picky like me avoid their sushi items. Other bonuses include a great selection of bourbons and scotch, clean restaurant and bathrooms, friendly staff, and outdoor seating that allows dogs. read more

Their regular food is that same bougie over priced stuff that Johnson city and Asheville are littered with, However their half price sushi is surprisingly good and worth the money if you can catch that Wednesday deal. Just be sure to order all that you want at the beginning because sometimes they can get really backed up and take a while to get your rolls out to you. And be prepared for the servers to be mildly annoyed with you the whole time. It's not always but I think when they get busy and stressed they don't pay as much attention to the people getting the half price sushi which is entirely fair and understandable, but that's why I say to order all you want at the beginning so you won't need as much from them.
