The food is phenomenal. If you like the meats, you won't be disappointed. We were impressed by the salad bar and the chilled shrimp. They were perfectly seasoned and not rubbery at all. Very fresh and it had some shrimp which made me very happy. There was also a seafood consommé type of soup which was delicious. Of course the MEAT is the star of the show here. Back 2 years ago when I was here, this place was listed but not yet open. I love me some Brazilian Steakhouse restaurants and where I'm from (Nashville), we haven't had one for at least 3 years or so. When I learned this was still around when planning my work trip, I knew I was coming here for dinner. To be honest, I was surprised Johnson City had one because so many of them came and went out of business in Nashville over the years. Nashville is obviously bigger than Johnson City, so I wonder what the secret formula is. Regardless, I'm glad I dined here. Coming in at 8:30p on a Monday meant it was super slow. I was one of 3 patrons that evening. The other table was a couple and the woman didn't even eat. I felt super bad because you had this multi-person wait staff and only 2 guys eating. My waiter did tell me that everything in Johnson City slows down at about 8pm and they were busier earlier in the evening. Regardless, it was a good experience and I'm glad to have supported a locally owned restaurant. Everyone was kind and while it was no Fogo/Texas de Brazil/Rodizio chain in terms of decor, the food was great. My main complaint were the chicken and pork ribs, as they were really dry. The beef however, came out really good every time. For those of you that have been to Brazilian steakhouses, you're familiar with the thin slicing the gauchos do. Well because it was just me, they were able to give me nearly a whole chunk of meat. So I probably ate about "5-6" personal sized steaks. It was also great because I only wanted the picanha, ribeye, and pineapple. They brought those cuts to me every time. Excited to try this place (thinking it would be like Chima in Charlotte or some other Brazilian Steakhouses we have visited in Texas or Vegas). The atmosphere was just blah. No music. No real vibe. No personality. Such a missed opportunity to create something different and fun in Johnson City. This place was simply disappointing. The wait staff was not friendly at all--one server basically threw a chicken leg across the table at us. The salad bar looked like it had been sitting out all day. There was shrimp on the salad bar with cross contamination to the olives and on the salad tongs--so if you have an allergy, please be cautious. The meat was "meh" but the grilled pineapple and banana were actually great! When I asked about a certain type of meat, the server handed me the meat "menu" with attitude --and the "menu" was a picture book which gave no info on what delineated one cut of beef from another. And when I asked what type of sausage they were serving, he said "Brazilian"--with a smirk. Sigh. Never was offered the lamb chops, pork ribs, ribeye... but they pushed the chicken and sausage like it was a fire sale. Save your money.....this was an epic fail. read more

Waiters were polite but not really able to communicate effectively. The food was fine - average at best. We were offered chicken, ribs and lots of pineapple. We had to ask, after an hour and a half, to get any lamb. They actually showed up at our table of 7 adults with a single lamb chop on a skewer. All the beef slices were very, very thin. It just felt like a lot of work to get the meat. Desert is not included. Drinks are not included. This is a restaurant that charges you a fee unless you pay cash. I did not see this information anyplace until my check came. I am not someone who carries around $500 in cash to pay for dinner, so that cost another $20 for an already disappointing meal. While on vacation, this had to be one of the most disappointing meals during the trip. I looked on google and Yelp and discovered this Brazilian steakhouse. I was pretty surprised considering we were in Johnson City. The photos looked good and the desserts were presented very nicely. We bought a groupon for two dinners with a bottle of wine. Upon arriving, we were super sketched out (suspicious) because there was literally only one car in the parking lot (around 8:30 PM) and we weren't expecting it to be dead. There was only one party in the building. The manager(?) let us take a look at the wine list and let us know that only bottles $22 and under were included, but we'd have to pay the difference for anything more expensive. We did choose an inexpensive bottle and it was disappointing. There wasn't too much to choose from to begin with. We were asked to wear our masks to and from the salad bar, which is understandable. The salad bar was kind of small here to be honest, but we were able to find some decent sides. We requested medium rare meats, but the gauchos kept bringing us overcooked meats. If you eat beef cooked over medium, then do you even know what a good steak is??? We had to repeatedly ask for medium rare, so I just gave up and ate the stuff from the salad bar which wasn't too bad. I frequented the pasta salad and the chicken salad although it was a bit salty. Eventually my bf asked for rare since they kept overcooking what was supposed to be the med rare, and they seemed to have an attitude about it and pretty much ignored us for the remainder of the visit besides the gaucho bringing us meats. There's absolutely no way we would ever come back to Rio. They don't know how to properly cook the meats to the correct temperature here and the salad bar was a bit limited. My son decided on trying Rio de Brazil for a birthday brunch. We are not strangers to Brazilian, but had not tried this restaurant. Went to Sunday Brunch which is slightly cheaper and brunch type hot bar! Will say the eggs and smoked sausage was wonderful! But you don't go to these locations for something other than meat and more meat, unless you are my wife!! We flipped our card to green and the stuffing began! I will say that I was so very happy with the quality of the meats and seasoning! We enjoyed everything that was offered!! The servers were quick to make a circuit of the room and remembering you desired temperature of meat and bringing you meat cooked to your liking! I will warn you they will offer you bottled water when you sit, which can quickly inflate a bill at a thirsty table. We asked for regular water and didn't have this issue. Also remember soft drinks are not all you can drink as they are canned. Absolutely delicious food. And the best yet is that you get EVERYTHING for only $39.95 during the month of July (normally $50). These prices are great to other comparable steakhouses we've been to previously. Some are fancier and charge more, but this place is reasonable for what it is. Must try! I'm not sure why I had not come by earlier. Wonderful to have this Brazilian meal in JC. The meats were flavorful and plentiful. We had a large group dining and all of us, many of which thAt have dined in Brazil, enjoyed our meal. The options at the salad bar were great from asparagus to shrimp cocktail , they were missing the hearts of palm salad as the supply is an issue now even the hot sides were great such as the mushroom gravy for mashed potatoes or rice. The chimichurri sauce was clearly house made w fresh herbs and garlic. One gal wasn't too hungry so she did the salad bar option for a reduced fee, and she enjoyed the shrimp and salad/sides. We love this place and recommend it to everyone when they are looking for a new restaurant. Last night (Monday night) we brought two people to Rio de Brazil in Johnson City, TN for their birthdays. We have told everybody about this place and how much we enjoy the food and surroundings, so expectations were high. Usually, you are able to eat what you have selected before another meat is brought to the table. You get the talk to your family or friends in between meat deliveries. This wasn't the case last night. All of our plates were so over filled that we had to keep asking what each piece was. Waiters and Waitresses were at the table so many times we couldn't talk to one another. I actually got stressed out and after 20 minutes of this we were toooo full from trying to eat in between the " meat marathon". I understand that it wasn't a super busy night and people probably wanted to go home early but this dining experience was just too rushed which caused the Birthday people to tell us that they didn't love it as much as we had led them to think they would. It was a new and unique experience for my bf and I! It's an all you can eat type of place, but they just keep bringing you meat to your table. There's a huge selection. They also have a salad bar, and a small hot bar with things like mashed potatoes, rice, etc. My favorite things were the flank steak, garlic steak, leg of lamb, and the grilled pineapple. I'd never had leg of lamb before, but it was so good! I've also never been able to eat steak without steak sauce, but everything was seasoned so well that I didn't need any. Honestly this review is for valentines dinner specifically. We had reservations for two. We arrived and were seated fairly quick were the person seating us opened a water bottle to pour two glasses of water. And then left. We sat there a good 10 minutes before we got up to get our salad because Noone coming to our table. We flagged a waiter down to ask for bread and asked when someone was going to get our orders for how we wanted our meat cooked. And get our drink orders. The person did not speak English and had no clue what we were asking. After a while being there around 30 mins. Meat started slowly comming around and was very undercooked. Unable to eat it almost raw. We sat there with empty plates for 5 minitues at a time waiting for the meat to cook. My wife finally was able to get a glass of wine after we had been there 40 minutes. After we were there an hour and a half we decided we had had enough got our 158.00 check. They charged 10 dollars for water 10 for a glass of wine and the rest for the meal . We just had an amazing meal in an incredibly enjoyable atmosphere. And, we had no idea that this gem existed in Johnson City. I took some pictures because I was sure you might not believe it. They serve you chicken, pork, beef (including filet and rib eye), and lamb. At your table. And, as much as you want. Do yourself a favor and try it at least once. It's on the upper end on price, but I can assure you that you'll get every penny's worth as you enjoy the pretty decor. I was a regular customer for years. Food has always been great even if it was $50 per person. I was shocked to see today that I was charged and extra $21 for water without even giving an option. The just started pouring bottled water. Then on check out was told the charge for water now. What? And the add a gratuity of 20% to the bill and I didn't notice it at first and left 20 on the table. The host went right over and grabbed it after running my card knowing I was just charged a gratuity of 43 bucks. Pretty shady. I had the manager fix this and will not be coming back. Ever. read more

The service was extremely slow...meats were brought out at a snail pace. The advertisement and photos for this place is deceiving. The reality is a big disappointment. A group of us have eaten here pretty regularly 4-5 times since they opened and service has gotten progressively worse. If I am going to spend $62 per person for a meal, not only would one expect great service, but great food as well. Service not worth the cost. Save your money and go elsewhere. It was not busy and was a little hesitant because the cost per person is $40 But we were blown away by how GOOD everything was. Salad bar was high quality with choices not found on most like shrimp cocktail (high quality) Then came the meats!! Fresh grilled skewers of so many varieties of beef chicken lamb & pork even grilled pineapple carved table side. You will not go away hungry or disappointed. my husband and i have been dining at this restaurant for quite some time however, we will not be returning. the food is mediocre for the price.they bring around pana spring water and Pellegrino water without telling you it's $7 a bottle. my husband has suspensions about illegal immigrants working there after our visit about 2 weeks ago. we noticed and over heard how they talk and treat their employees. it was very uncomfortable to see and hear the male employees talk to the singular female waitress. the comments that were made by those men to that girl were very upsetting for me to hear. my silverware was also dirty and not clean. whenever i went to the restroom i even noticed a roach. i will not be returning. read more

There are certain restaurants, that on special occasions, anniversaries, vacations etc, you do not mind stretching the budget a bit, and spending $200 give or take on dinner for three people. At least you know (or expect) that it will be a special experience, with exceptional food and top notch service. This was NOT one of those experiences. We arrived at 6pm, two hours after opening. I could tell from the undisturbed (and unstirred, dried out) chicken salad, apple salad etc on the bar that we were likely the first customers of the evening. That being the case, I wondered how they could be bringing cuts of meat to the table that size wise on the skewer looked like the last couple servings from that cut. Well when they put it on our plate, it was well done and dried out as well. It was pretty apparent that these were what was left of the meat from last night's dinner service. My wife asked and the server denied it, but it was pretty obvious. Filet etc all well done and literally dry. In addition, they would serve my wife and I smaller servings (as compared with other Brazilian steakhouses such as Gaucho's that we frequent as well), and then they would serve our son the equivalent of a child's portion compared to ours. The problem is, our son is a 17 year old, 245 pound football player, who is taller than either of us, who we paid adult price for. And they are serving him like a 7 year old. In addition, the other reviews that talk about them skipping your table after a short time are dead on. Yes the server would make the obligatory" is there anything else we can get you?", meanwhile the gauchos are still going to the other tables with new varieties of meat which we had not even seen, and we had to keep asking to try the new items that were being brought to the newer tables, as well as literally having to ask 4 times for more plantains. They do not use a soda fountain, and charge $3.50 for a can of soda with no refills. So would we pay over $200.00 for the three of us to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary and enjoy a special meal (or experience as they call it)? Absolutely, that was our intention. However, this was a total let down, and we actually walked out feeling robbed. Left over dried out meat for $200, are you kidding me? The manager ended coming over and took $21.15 (15%) off the bill (even though he said he was doing 20%, doesn't matter at this point). Then they went on to add a $5.20 charge for non cash! What kind of reputable restaurant charges you to use a credit card?! Still came to $150 before the tip. May as well have thrown $150 in the street. Absolute disappointment, and a sour note to what should have been an awesome night out. Normally would have had dessert, maybe a couple of drinks, but the last thing we felt like was increasing the revenue of this establishment. Ended up at Cracker Barrel for dessert, should have eaten dinner there as well. read more
