I was very excited about going to this restaurant to have some delicious authentic French food. When we first arrived at the restaurant, there were a few people eating outdoors, even though it was a rather cool day. When we first walked into the restaurant, it struck me more like a bar with tables as it didn't have some of the French influences that I'm used to in the past at other restaurants. We were the only two patrons inside the restaurant granted it was 3:30 on a Sunday. The waiters were very warm, welcoming and pleasant. Both my Guest and I ordered the French onion soup to start. The soup was slightly above warm but not hot considering there was a chill in the area I thought this would be the remedy to regulate our temperatures. Immediately after our soup was taken away we receive our meals, no time wasted. My Croque Monsieur was okay, the taste of the ham and cheese was reasonable, but the bread used was kind of tough and challenging to bite, to separate a bite size amount, I was moved to using a fork and a serrated knife and that made it a little easier. Really disappointed.. The manager was busy with one table. She made no effort to check on guests at other tables. I Also noticed she brought bread to the one table and just ignored the rest. Food was very confusing. The seafood chowder was decent, the rest was just terrible. My meal consisted of three fried pieces of eggplant and about 1/2 pound of salad mix thrown on the top.. There is no ambiance. This is basically a french dive bar with a patio. Inside is old, dated, and esthetically bland. The aged outdoor chairs are basically gargoyle warning of the dread that lies within. This place is why I love restaurant week. I would not pay full price for a meal here.. The food is great, the ambience so cozy inside and so pretty outside, the staff are wonderful and accommodating, and the owners are just wonderful. i have seen how well the staff deal with difficult and demanding customers - with patience and grace. Great find on Yelp while I was up in the area. The most important thing to mention is the service! Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. This is a nice little place in Chappaqua which is a quiet town. It's a French/American Bistro Cafe that has simple decor. I would say you come here for the staff, the food and the coziness. They've been here for about 20 years and are very well known. We were here just before the dinner menu although I was happy with the selections from the lunch menu. Luis our waiter was very accommodating, I wasn't looking for anything to drink with alcohol so offered to make me a home made lemonade which was not even on the menu. It hit the spot after the 2 hours of exercise I did earlier. They have a straightforward menu and the diner menu items are mainly named in French. Luis was very helpful in making food choices and especially the deserts!! We had the soft shell crab sandwich which is made with one soft shell crab and comes with a small salad and fries which are from fresh potatoes. It was good although the only tip I would give is to order it for dinner so you get 2 soft shell crabs. Yes the price goes from $22 to about $36, although if you are hungry it's definitely worth it. We also had the salmon sandwich which was out of this world. Most restaurants give you a salmon patty, this sandwich had a huge piece of very tasty salmon that was cooked to perfection. It had to be at least 8 ounces. It also came with a salad and home made French fries. For desert we had the blueberry crumb with vanilla ice cream and the warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. The brownie was one of if not the best brownie I've eaten. Warm, sweet, dark chocolate! Sweet but not overpowering, fresh and so moist. It was a large piece as well. I think my next trip will be to come back to relax outside on a nice evening,have the tacos, appetizers, lots of wines and their desert. All the staff were wearing masks although they leave it up to the customers who are hopefully vaccinated to decide if they want to wear one. The restaurant was very clean, they were constantly cleaning and sanitizing. The bathrooms were spotless. I'm not sure what's going on here. I remember loving this restaurant the last time I was here. This time was very different. I had a reservation but was seated in A small room to the left. Ok so I sat and waited for my friend. Nobody bothered with me. Someone came over and asked what kind of water I would like. I never received any. My friend arrived and we sat there for probably 10 minutes talking. Still no water, no waiter. It was getting way too loud. We asked to be moved to the other room. This is where we should've been seated from the beginning with our reservation!There was nobody in this other room, maybe two tables seated. The hostess told us she sat us in the bar room because she thought it would be quieter! hmm that's definitely not possible, because the tables were very close and the room was filled. She should know that people want to sit in the main dining room with reservations, or give them a choice. OK so we're seated and ready to order some wine. Nobody's paying attention to us in this room either. We flagged down somebody and asked them if we could order. I say somebody, because you couldn't tell who was a waiter and who was a bus boy. Nobody took the lead Or introduced themself and said, "hello I will be your waiter". It was a very weird. We decided to order everything because we thought we would never see them again. We were correct. I got the ratatouille and my friend got a club sandwich. We never did see them again, and I had to flag someone down to bring me ice because my iced tea was warm. I never received the ice. I flagged down a second person and asked and finally received it. I still didn't know who my waiter was. My friend had to flag down someone and asked for an another glass of wine. I had ordered from the restaurant week menu and a waiter had come over to ask what I would like for dessert. I opted for the bread pudding. He hurried away. My girlfriend said, "he didn't even ask if I would like dessert or coffee or something else." She was completely invisible and was not offered dessert, or coffee. The food was good, but it's hard to get past how we were ignored. It was not a very welcoming lunch, but it was funny when we went to leave, they acknowledged us and said goodbye. The problem is not the food, it's definitely the workers. read more

Awful waste of good potential. This area could really use a great little French Bistro with casual fare, but this place falls far short of the mark I. So many regards. The patio is lovely and you get drawn in by the idea of glass of wine under a sunny umbrella. The staff is attentive but a bit too casual. The food and interior are just sad. Has a $35 nicoise salad which looked like packaged lettuce with the saddest hard boiled egg and rubber tuna. The wedge salad was a pile of oddly cut romaine. The interior could be a cozy, warm and inviting space and has the bones for it, but the multiple layers of landlord pain jobs and obvious lack of general maintenance have left their mark. After a couple of sodas, we left with an $80 bill and a feeling of regret. I would suggest a visit to France to remember what this should actually taste like, pare down the menu to focus on a couple of very solid, well executed items, and then work on interior. read more

Was given two menus regular & the three course Prix Fix. Perused both & started to question my decision. Tacos, Shrimp a la Cruz (latin shrimp). Hmmmm I don't know of many French restaurants serving Latin dishes. In any case ordered Wine, Escargot, Shrimp a la Cruz (recommended by server vs Salmon Poke) & Bread Pudding. I was informed by my server that every Wed they have Latin night. Hmmm, French restaurant having latin night??? That does not sound right. Never heard of a French restaurant having a 'Latin' night. The wine arrived very quickly along with two freshly 'baked' dinner rolls. Shortly the escargot arrived. OK The escargot was lukewarm the butter just melted not bubbling, very under seasoned & I'm on a low sodium diet. Next the entree - Shrimp a la Cruz. Let me say this; not only were the shrimp killed but they were also cooked to death or burned at steak in Salem. These are not for the denture crowd. Talk about shoe leather. The risotto was flavorful but dry, you could taste the butter in it but it was DRY. And then there were these two boiled/steamed broccoli flowerets. The bread pudding was OK. Next came loin of pork with pumpkin risotto. While I enjoyed the pork, the risotto had NO flavor. I added cheese and salt to no avail. And the Brussel sprouts...bof. I've been going to Le Jardin de Roi for years. But the meal I had this week in May 2022 was downright awful. I had fried chicken with macaroni and cheese which I've loved on at least 3 visits. The chicken was like stale KFC take-out, all dry with hardened batter. The macaroni and cheese, always uniquely spicy and delicious before, was neither. We went for the outdoor seating, but wow seats without an umbrella in the sun there are boiling and bright! The food was great, we got the chicken sandwiches, which were delicious, the french onion soup, which was great and kids meals- which were a fine size and good quality. If they had enough umbrellas for all tables it would easily have been a 5 star al fresco experience. Food is solidly good. I had the ribs which were flavorful and tender. The fries are especially good too - thick enough to taste the potato but thin enough they were nicely crispy. Service was extremely attentive especially considering how large our party was. The thing is this place has a French name and did have some French food on the menu but also a lot of random fare (like the ribs I got). And while everything seemed solid taste-wise, it was quite expensive for what it was. It is quaint, they have delicious omelettes and the service is very good. Never had an unpleasant meal there. hard to review this one. the atmosphere was wonderful, outdoors. the service, superb. the food, well, rather bland and mediocre with the salmon needing seasoning and the mac'n'cheese swimming in a sort of milky substance that turned my stomach. but the real turnoff was the bill: it arrived with a 3% KITCHEN APPRECIATION CHARGE. really? never saw that before. and isn't that already included in the overpriced food and drinks ($18 for a cocktail that didn't even generate a slight buzz) anyway? the fine print offered us the option of asking to have that charge removed, but why not just give us the subtle suggestion of adding it ourselves? frankly, I'm just tired of everyone, everywhere I go, trying to gouge a little bit more out of me. next, there'll be an eating utensil fee or a "gender neutral" washroom charge. read more

This was so disappointing. Worst French food I've had, possibly ever. OUTRAGEOUSLY OVERPRICED. Onion soup wasn't even hot and the broth had an almost gelatinous consistency. Beet salad had like 10 lettuce leaves, and half were rotten. The french fries were TERRIBLE. Very raw and undercooked. The kid's mac n cheese was rotini with a melted american/velveeta sauce and steamed broccoli that was partially brown and served sitting in water. I came here for brunch with a friend who is a regular here. The owners and staff were all very friendly and it's easy to see this place being a local hangout. For food we shared the buckwheat crepes and ratatouille over potato gratin. Both very delicious and we enjoyed our leisurely brunch along with mimosas.
