I visited the Arch for Valentine's Day Dinner and it was a wonderful experience. The place was very packed but the team managed everything well and provided a great time. Things kicked off with some warm bread with a horseradish butter than was delicious. We had drink orders taken and then selected from the special Valentine's menu. I started with the shrimp bisque, which was outstanding. My husband's carpaccio was not that great, but that was the only misfire from our food. Next, I had the halibut for my main course and it was perfect. Expertly prepared and the perfect portion size. The fingerling potatoes were also wonderful. For dessert, we both had the cherry sponge cake and we both felt we could have immediately eaten another one each as it was so good! Service was warm and hospitable with the only hiccup was that we ordered a second round of drinks before we got out entrees and were almost done our meal before they were delivered and after I had to ask about them. The "waiting in the wings" server filled this dehydrated girls water glass continuously with the showmanship of a future great sommeliar (draped towels, confidence, impeccably dressed and all that). Outdoor gardens were lovely and charming stone patio add to the vibe, as did the outdoor lighting. Dining room is spacious and lit with individual table lamps so those with weary eyes can read the concise, imaginative menu. Thoroughly enjoyed the wine choices as well. I've been completely spoiled. How will I ever step into a chain restaurant again? You've ruined me. No. Really. I'm dismayed when I think of any other local establishments. One teeny tiny suggestion, and which may be due to the ridiculous heat wave we are currently in; fluctuations in temperature were distracting, it would get suddenly unbearably hot, but then the air would kick in nicely. We spent Valentine's Day at The Arch Restaurant & Bar and had such a lovely experience. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by a wonderful young lady, which set the tone for the night. The place was busy, but the staff still made us feel completely taken care of. I'm usually not a fan of prix fixe menus and had my heart set on trying the Beef Wellington, but honestly, I didn't feel like I missed out at all. My filet and husbands lobster ravioli were both delicious, and the appetizers were just as impressive. Their wine selection was also really nice and paired perfectly with dinner. They were sold out of 2 of the bottles we initially requested so that speaks for itself ! We ended the night with a soufflé and a tart for dessert, which was the perfect sweet finish. Overall, such a great Valentine's dinner,we'll definitely be back! In addition to all that I was a huge fan of their fine China and wine glasses they were not only in pristine condition it was just so comforting to enjoy my food on beautiful plates. For the holiday, they offered a prix fixe three-course menu. I started with the Beef Carpaccio (black truffle aioli, crispy capers, pickled caviar, chili crunch, crispy garlic). While the flavors were nice, I found the slices a bit too thick--carpaccio is usually paper-thin for that melt-in-your-mouth experience. For my entrée, I had Coq au Vin, and it was outstanding! The chicken was braised beautifully, incredibly tender, and full of rich, well-balanced flavors. The vegetables and fingerling potatoes were perfectly cooked and complemented the dish wonderfully. Dessert was the highlight! I had the Cherry Sponge Cake (red wine cherry reduction, lemon-scented vanilla gelato), and it was absolutely divine. If I could, I would have ordered ten more! OK, so I thought I like my appetizer it was as escargot never had it submerged in oil. It was mushy. I'm hesitant to get escargot unless I've had it at a restaurant where I love it. when I went to Paris I tried it and it was pretty good, but the best ever was a long time ago in the Bronx. The duck was tender, but had no taste the side that came with. It wasn't mashed potatoes, but it had a consistency of grits. The two didn't go together. They give you bread all of three small pieces and some kind of soft cream or butter in a thimble with a little oil, had no taste either. The waiter ask if we wanted sparkling water we said yes never got it. One of the other guys came over and said did you want water or sparkling water? I said we told the waiter we want sparkling water. He went to go check and asked the waiter and the waiter still never brought it over. Then we got a different waiter very confusing. And we forgot to check if we got charged for it. I don't think we're going back, but you guys can try it out very expensive though. My wife liked the fish wasn't anything to rave about especially at that price and it was the special specials supposed to knock get socks off. read more

We had a reservation for brunch and my husband and I both confirmed it. We still had to wait an hour for our table. The hostess Canel was exceptionally obnoxious and lied to both of us, stating that someone tried to call us about our reservation. Neither my husband or I received any voicemails regarding our reservation. She never apologized for making us wait an hour. The food was decent but ridiculously overpriced and the service was horribl. The waiter was rude and impatient and he didn't apologize for our wait either. We will never go back and do not recommend this overrate, overpriced pompous restauran. There are so many other, better French, seafood and American restaurants in the area which far exceed The Arch. Unfortunately, I should have read some of the negative reviews before making reservations. I wanted a special place to treat my business partner and his wife to dinner. My husband and I have lived about 20 minutes from The Arch for many years but had never been. A friend recommended it after she was hearing good things about it under their new ownership. 1) the cocktails were fine; Dirty martini, and Espresso martinis. The dirty martini wasn't dirty enough so I asked for more brine. They provided about an ounce in a small, stemmed glass. Problem solved. 2) the Elk chop special was very tasty, tender, with a nice crust. But the wonderful sounding bordelaise wine sauce was basically absent. And the "chop" was extremely small. Perhaps 3 oz on the bone? 4 oz tops. It was fine for me but not for my husband. When I asked the waitress what was served with the chop she said "braised greens". So I decided to add a potato side dish. The waitress and I discussed a couple of potato options. I ordered the Pave potatoes...very tasty. BUT...the chop had fingerling potatoes on the dish! So now I have potatoes x2. Not the end of the world but the waitress obviously did not know the dish. 3) the Beef Wellington was a complete disaster and a huge disappointment for my business partner as this is his favorite dish. The puff pastry was missing! There was some at the bottom of the filet, but none on the top or sides. It was a sad-looking dish. He was too polite to complain and didn't want to make a scene. He said the meat was good. We have been to the Arch many times since the 1980's ! It was our go to for special occasions, as the atmosphere, service and food have always been exceptional. This last visit yesterday was sadly disappointing. The service was top tier, attentive and friendly, the appetizers were the best part of meal, though not quite of the caliber one would expect from The Arch. The espresso martinis yummy, and a lovely selection of wines. The big disappointments came with main meal. We ordered the duck confit salad, the sole Amandine, and steak frittes. The duck was shredded, and sparse, dry and chewy, drenched with way too much salad dressing, which was truly hard to tell what the flavor was meant to be, thinly sliced apples were the best part, as I ate all of those to enjoy the crisp sweetness, the presentation was sad, a big lump of all the ingredients plopped in a bowl, no finesse. A favorite saying "you eat first with the eyes" is something the chef should embrace, it was not something I would ever order again. The sole was a step up, though also dry with little to no sauce, sauces are such an important part of a delicious French meal. The steak was cooked to order, and the one dish that was acceptable. Dessert was ok, the creme brulee very good, the lemon tart not so much, lemon curd spooned into what seemed like a waffle cone shell, not a delicious flaky buttery tart shell one would hope for. All in all I don't think we'll be back anytime soon, not sure what has changed at The Arch, hoping that this review will lead to some reflection on living up to the excellence that was always without fail the experience of an evening at Arch. read more

This was terrible. I came here for valentines day ($250 meal). Reservation for 8, got steated at 8:50, didn't get our appetizers until 10. My shrimp soup appetizer was bad and the waiter ignored my complaint about it, the ribeye and halibut were good, but the desserts were terrible, lava cake was small and all fudge but cold and the ice cream had freezer burn and was almost completely melted. everyone was rude (no one was polite, just taking orders and leaving, or taking food, not caring how we enjoyed it). After getting the check, we asked for a discount and got 30% off (still $200 for a terrible experience). ended up taking to the manager, who was extremely rude. She told us that she "guaranteed" any restaurant on Earth would take that long to seat someone on a holiday and that if we said otherwise we were lying. She said she would absolutely not give us anything else off (which would have been fine if her response to our speaking to her was more apologetic, she didn't even seem like cared we were unhappy). We did not end up tipping because our service was genuinely terrible and we felt a tip should go to people who deserved it, not to inpolite staff and a terrible manager. Manager said because we didn't tip we were already paying little enough and that furthered her argument to not give us anything else off. overall the experience was terrible and I hope no one goes here. The desert was good. The menu can be written in French , this is not yet close to a French bistro cuisine . The Chef will have to improve his / her game to stay close the competition . Tip for the unwary: there is a very nice bakery in Brewster with a real baguette and a nice Camargue butter at Whole Food . So I have been to the arch for 25 years, when George owned it. And we thought we'd try out the new owners. First of all we sat out on the patio, which had no landscaping, no beautiful flowers etc. Also there was trash on the patio. The cosmos were very good, but my husband had a glass of wine and it was a half a glass! The colors painted on the walls in the dining area where a dull gray, and the bathroom was an awful color of olive green, not very appealing. The waiter was excellent. Dining here is a beautiful, civilized, old-world experience. The warm, observant hospitality rivals top tier, Michelin starred restaurants; the space is charming. Chef Seitz greets all tables briefly during dinner service and the lovely Ms. Seitz greets all from behind the bar as guests come in through the front door. There are pleasant, old-school touches: Complimentary bread is brought to the table before dinner along with generous ramekins of butter and pate. The bread is American-style "French," low gluten and fluffy, with a slight crust. Our non-European littles (who enjoy a good miche and Wonderbread equally) devoured it happily. Our starters were the strongest point. Arch Gravlax / Cucumber Salad / Wasabi Mousse / Potato Scallion Crisp ($18) was well cured and paired nicely with "potato scallion crisp" (aka a nicely fried latke!) and cucumber salad. Although the pale green quenelle of mild wasabi mousse was lovely to see on the plate, flavor-wise, I found it somewhat superfluous, the wasabi too dilute to stand up to the more assertive salmon. An utterly non-seasonal Cold Cucumber Soup /Chopped Chives ($14) was well received by the young lady who insisted on ordering it. The taste of cucumber was relatively faint, flavors dominated by sour cream. Crisp Artichoke Hearts / Wilted Spinach / Lemon and Capers ($19) were a crowd favorite, lightly battered, quartered artichoke hearts dressed with a very pleasant lemon-caper sauce, and served over wilted spinach that our children really went for, to my surprise. The Arch serves a tender and delicious version of fried artichokes, unlike the more fibrous, charry versions one is likely to encounter in Italian restaurants. Main courses were served after just the right length of time. The Crisp Honey Orange Roasted Duckling / Bing Cherries ($38) was classically prepared. Duck meat was moist, the fat nicely rendered off, and we loved the accompaniment of cherries, green beans, whipped sweet potato and spaetzel. Note that all of our mains came commendably well balanced with vegetables, proteins and carbohydrates... big, big win! But a few nitpicks: Most of the flavor remained on the skin and did not permeate through to the meat. (I use a dry rub underneath the skin so the meat is flavored as well as the skin.) I also have to channel my German BIL, who complains about our "American ducks" tasting like... yep, chicken. They tend to lack the gaminess of their German counterparts and whether that's a pro or a con is a matter of preference. Pan Sautéed Filet of Sole / Brown Butter / Toasted Almonds ($32) came with a generous portion of breaded fillets, two fish cakes, and Brussels sprouts and more of that whipped sweet potato, served in a charming squiggle. The fish was attractively plated, but a touch oversalted, the gentle, mild flavor of sole somewhat overwhelmed by the flour dredge (somewhat thicker than I'm used to for sole meuniere). It's clear that this kitchen knows how to handle seafood, though, so next time, I'll swing for whatever non-breaded seafood special they have on offer. Tenderized, breaded pork in the Wiener Schnitzel / Lemon & Capers ($33) was fried to perfection, well blotted to avoid greasiness, and deliciously plated with the same lemon-caper sauce that came with our artichokes. Also on the plate: spaetzlel; a tiny sprig of rosemary; a very old-school anchovy, to my great delight; Brussels sprouts; summer squash; and microgreens. Beautiful and balanced. A Beef Bourguignon / House Made Gruyere Spätzle ($30) managed, like so many other dishes on the menu, to be both delicate and fortifying at the same time. It was again classically prepared, the chewy, homestyle spaetzle a good accompaniment. We'd been forewarned by friends to save room for dessert. Our chocolate and raspberry souffles were suitably impressive: gigantic puffs served with additional creme. Note that if you choose souffle, it would be wise to order these at the start of the meal, as they are made to order. If you dine out frequently in NYC, you may not be impressed by food at the Arch (though service would be impressive anywhere). It is by-the-book traditional rather than innovative, there are minor flaws in prep. But if one considers what the Arch does with probably 1/5 of the staff of a top tier NYC restaurant; the balanced, beautiful plating; the welcoming environs; the well-priced and well curated wine list; the sense of special occasion that the staff bring to the meal -- we have personally not encountered better in the area. Main draws: - Carpet - Soufflées - Service - Food The carpet is gone, so we probably won't be back :'( ' The cheese souflée is to die for. It's been moved from entrées to starters, so you can have it and have something else, too, which is a Good Thing. The dessert souflées were also good, but always the same damn raspberry, chocolate, and Grand Marnier. Why someone can't offer a hazelnut or lemon once in a while I don't understand. The waitstaff used to be grizzled professionals, now it's children. Kid couldn't recite the specials without looking at his cheat sheet, and couldn't pronounce half the dishes or the wine. Wine glasses were refilled only once during the entire meal. Another kid came around with the crumber (yay) but only did half the table (boo). Bread was stale and awful, butter was rock hard. Escargot were drowned in some kind of brown sauce that totally masked their flavor. Hubby's beef Wellington was overcooked, tough, and dry. Roasted mushrooms and pave potato side dishes were great. the restaurant is under new management. Our dining experience was incredible. While jackets are no longer required my husband and several other men wore jackets. People who were inappropriately dressed for example shorts, were not seated in the main dining area which would have ruined our meal. The food and service were excellent and worth the cost. While not the formality of the Arch of years ago the owners have tried to make it a special experience consistent with the changed dress codes of formal dining. Such a picturesque and quaint spot set amidst the woods. You almost feel like you're in Europe. The tablecloths and dishes are old-school and charming. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, especially since there was a mishap with one of the dishes. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the soufflé... very special. We went out to The Arch Restaurant in Brewster,NY on Saturday night. We had 6:30 reservations and arrived a few minutes early and were seated right away. It was a former house so there are multiple rooms. One has a large fireplace. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They have a decent wine selection or you could bring your own for a corkage fee. We just had glasses of wine off the menu. And it was a very generous pour. The restaurant was fairly full but not loud. We started out with escargot which was outstanding. They even provided extra bread for enjoying the delicious sauce. I was all set to order the veal scallopine but they had a special of Osso Buco and I made a great choice it was absolutely delicious. It was tender with so much flavor that I savored every bite. My wife had the duck. I tried a piece of her duck and it was moist, crispy skin with incredible flavor. A couple celebrating the 56th anniversary of their first date asked what we got so they ordered the same thing. They agreed that both dishes were absolutely amazing. For desserts we ordered a chocolate souffle and apple strudel and both did not disappoint. It was a great meal. The meal was expensive but well worth it. We will be back soon. read more

Between the food, the atmosphere and the incredible staff, you will most certainly have a night to remember ANY evening you spend with George, Diedre and their team. During an especially challenging year, they've made a night out with my elderly parents, our Rosh Hashanah and random Saturday's thoughtful and exceptional. My husband and I have been going to The Arch for many, many years and always looked forward to the charming atmosphere, excellent service and wonderful food. When we were there about a year ago, we were introduced to the new owner who guaranteed us he would keep it much the same. Unfortunately, he didn't. Our recent visit was a huge disappointment, and we will not be returning. The menu is extremely limited, and they were out of one of the 6 main entrees. Appetizers were bland. The main dishes were extremely small, more like appetizers. I had filet mignon. It was one small filet by itself on a plate, and the vegetable was an additional charge. The decor has lost all semblance of the original country French charm. The 4 waiters were loitering around us, clearly hoping to rush us out (we were not there late) and there were only 3 seated tables on a Sat night. While the food was for the most part okay, the price was astronomical for the quality of the experience. For that price I expect to be wowed and this was a dud. Sadly, I think this lovely restaurant which holds wonderful memories for us, will be soon out of business. read more

Excellent freshly prepared Cuisine from its extensive menu served with flair by its attentive servers from a professional kitchen in beautiful surroundings. Meat and seafood offerings are exceptional. The outside summer dining in one of its magnificent garden settings is reminiscent of the French countryside. The ambient music is well selected and never intrusive or canned. Dishes are artistically plated, almost a shame to consume. The staff wants only to please you; your requests, no matter how small, are promptly and courteously attended to.
