My family and I went to Lagos Mexican Cuisine in Fullerton for Mother's Day to celebrate my wife for the Outstanding job she does as the matriarch of our family. I have to say that we had a wonderful time eating some scrumptious food! Everything was prepared to our satisfaction and tasted absolutely delicious! My daughter (my Princess) had Birria Al Vapor which were seasoned perfectly. She really loved her dish! My wife (my Queen) had fluffy Waffles with tasty scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. She was totally satisfied as well! I had the combination Flajitas Flat Iron with tender chicken breast meat, juicy sautéed shrimp, and moth watering steak. My meal was Bomb!! Both the Flajitas and the Birria Al Vapor came with rice and beans as well and were quite filling! Lagos gets an A+ for the food for sure!! We were fortunate enough to have Rene Gonzalez as our waiter and he took excellent care of us. He was pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He took his job seriously and seemed to enjoy every minute of what he was doing. He kept our drinks refilled and ensured that we had everything that we needed and wanted to enjoy our meal at this establishment! Shout out to you Rene, as well as all of the other waiters and waitresses who worked and also stopped by our table during our meal to see if we needed anything . It was awesome to see everyone working together and getting along so well! I can see how this place can be so popular because of staff like these guys!! As far as the ambiance is concerned, Lagos is a stunningly beautiful building on the inside and outside! The atmosphere is warm and comforting, and all patrons seemed to enjoy their stay while eating and fellowshipping together! This was totally Awesome!! It's just another Mexican restaurant with just good vibes. The food does not represent authentic Mexican food. I ordered the asada taco plate; they were the most plain and dry tacos I have ever eaten. My first thought at first bite was that even street tacos taste better than these. The shrimp plate was also plain, with the rice tasting undercooked. So disappointed with the quality of the food. Nice place though (the restroom needs a bit more attention) . My friend and I wanted to find a place to grab a drink or two to catch up on life's events and picked Lagos solely based off of the pretty photos featured on their Yelp page. As part of our Yelp Elite family, my phone must eat first, so finding a spot where I could take pretty photos is usually a huge deciding factor for selecting a restaurant. We arrived to downtown Fullerton and were happy to find a spot right away in the parking structure, which is also right across from Lagos. Parking is $5/flat rate but nearby street parking is free. The outside of Lagos is beautiful. The restaurant is pretty huge. I was surprised to find the restaurant pretty empty for a Saturday night. Most of the customers were seated at the bar area, possibly to watch the game. In my opinion, maybe people edit the photos on Yelp but the online pics definitely look better than how the restaurant really looks in person. There's definitely some good and bad areas of my dining experience. Positive: Server was really nice and kept checking on us often. He was friendly, made small talks and gave us complementary chips. Our food and drinks came quickly. Most impressive was the glass sliding door of the kitchen. NegativeS: Oh My! Our server checked in on us at least 8, 9 or even over 10 times, even while my friend and I were in the middle of having a conversation. He kept asking us if we were ready to order drinks and food and desserts and ultimately offered to clear our table and dropped off a check even without being asked. If you read some of the reviews (yes, check the filtered, hidden, not recommended ones as well), others have commented on how the servers would upsell on more expensive items. This happened to me as well. Example: My friend asked the server if their flights were good. The server quickly recommended the $40 whiskey flights. I asked if they still had their Pesto pasta, he brought up the seafood pasta. Honestly, $40 for a whiskey flights and $34 for seafood pasta is inexpensive, but I just feel he would make recommendations just on the more expensive options. The worse part? I ordered their Merlot. There was only a single option on the menu for Merlot, Josh Cellar - $15.00/glass. I ended up ordering 2 glasses. When the bill came, I was charged for 2 glasses of Napa Cellars Merlot for $20/glass. This was the first time I had visited ANY restaurant or bar where they make their own decisions to change my wine order prior to checking with me first. $10 difference is not a huge deal and I would've happily agreed with the switch had they brought it up to me, but that was not the case. The waiter probably thought I wouldn't catch that, but I only failed to bring it up because that incident just made me not want to be a repeat customer. They can keep that $10. Food quality was okay. Went for brunch and was disappointed. Michelada flight was mostly sweet. Ordered the Birria and just came with a bowl of birria in consume and 3 small tortillas wrapped in a handkerchief. Then asked about the filet Mignon omelette, and the server told us it was just an omelette with cheese with pieces of sliced "fillet mignon" on top-- also didn't come with anything. No free chips and salsa to start either. Will say the chorizo sopes my sister got were very good and worth the price. The restaurant looked half full, and they had staff walking around but I feel like our service was pretty slow. We were ready to order but nobody checked on us for a while and we didn't start eating until around 7:45-8pm. The food was mid-tier and I don't think the taste of the food justifies the prices. My salad had a really strong manchego dusting and that's all I could really taste. Second time at Lagos and it delivered again. What do you do when Cinco de Mayo falls on Taco Tuesday. Go have tacos at Lagos, por supuesto? We've had Rene as our server both visits, and he's been outstanding each time. He was running both the bar and the floor--clearly busy--but you'd never know it from the level of service. Attentive, friendly, professional, and dialed in the whole night. Jacob, his assistant, was just as knowledgeable and helpful. Service is a solid 5/5--our water glasses never went empty. Drinks were on point across the board. The Presidential Margaritas, Paloma, and jalapeño margarita were all excellent, and their tequila selection is strong. Food is consistently good, but the standout surprise is the Chilean sea bass--easily the best dish I've had on the menu so far. Tacos are solid as well. We ordered a Patron flight that nobody could drink because it wasn't good at all. So disappointing. We had a party of 12 people that we called and made reservations for ahead of time. I had the Mar Y Tiera (surf & turf), and it was flavorless. I've had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse. Lobster had no flavor. Some of our party received their food. Others were waiting a while to get their food and one person received his food when everyone else was just about done eating. The service was really lacking big time with drinks, food, and all. Even though the restaurant was nearly empty. We were also excited to order the large hanging steak that they light on fire in front of you, but even that was anti climatic. The guy doing it looked so miserable that it just made it a sad experience. We did complain and a manager came and tried to fix things, but it was honestly too late. Some of us ordered desserts just to try them but we were already full cause we ate the food anyways cause we were hungry, that dessert was just a shot at redemption for this place. Sadly the dessert fell flat too. The manager brought us a free dessert plate but we were already too full to eat it. It was just pointless. The wow factor really comes with the presentation - the 40 oz bone in steak came with a flair where it actually charred and sliced right at our table - very instagrammable in that sense. The steak is huge and easily feeds 2 or maybe 3 people with side orders. Initially, the meat had a distinct taste, likely from herbs or spices I wasn't used to. We asked to have it re-cooked a bit more in the kitchen, and it came out good the second time. My husband was hoping for the Chilean Sea Bass, but only the salmon was available that evening.Unfortunately, both the salmon and the carne asada tacos didn't taste quite as fresh as we expected. Even the chips seemed like they have been sitting out, though our server was very kind and brought us a fresh batch when we asked. SERVICE: 5/5 We came on a Wednesday for 6 pm reservation. We were thoroughly very pleased with the dinner we had on Saturday evening. I made reservations to be safe but at 5pm on a Saturday, you don't really have to worry about seating availability. The hostess and server and bartender were all so nice and attentive. Plenty of seating inside and it looks like there are additional rooms to the side of the bar. Not sure if they're private though. We ordered the scallops for our appetizer and some cocktails to start off. The scallops were served on a bed of veggies and rice. I thought it was just decor however, it was the most amazing addition to the scallops. We licked the plate clean! For dinner, I ordered the shrimp enchiladas. I would've hoped for some cheese inside the enchilada, that would be my only gripe, but the plate itself was amazing. The beans I did not care for as much. I actually really wanted to LOVE this place. I am a believer of giving things one more try because they could've just had an off night. I did order the Sol de Pasion, the first drink which I ordered for my friend was PERFECT! Then I ordered one and another round for my friend and it was too sweet. While we waited for the server to come back to us we did get our food and appetizers. The Tres Amigos Guac was really just an order of three of the same guacamoles with different toppings. Blah! It also needed salt and pepper and some lemon/lime! The ribeye plate came I ordered mine with shrimp scampi which wasn't on the menu...they brought it as a side dish on my ribeye plate and not as a side smothered in the butter creamed sauce that I saw on Yelp which is why I asked for it...granted it's not on the menu but something they've made as a special before and it was a hit so it's on the secret menu and they will make if you ask. I will say this dish blew my mind but needs more sauce. The ribeye...oh the ribeye...I would've been better with the tomahawk but I figured the ribeye is BUT a smaller portion of that and will do good for me. WRONG!!! NO taste! Very thin cut with too much marbling. We even told the server more seasoning is needed, whether it be salt or pepper. She brought us more scampi sauce which my friend requested which we loved and went well over the steak or just to dip. I just believe this place has potential to be better. Service was hot and cold. We were the first table there "but" service still ran wrong. Hard to imagine that service wasn't up to par when we were the first people there and later on there were 3 tables. I had to flag someone down and that was even after having my drink for a while and the food coming. Once I did get her attention, she did remake the drinks with less of the passion fruit sweetener which again was perfect! The only amazing thing about this place is the stunning view! It's extremely beautiful. I think maybe next time because I will give it one more try maybe in the far, far future, I will try their tacos or enchiladas. Let me start by saying I loved the dim lighting--the vibe and ambiance were definitely on point. I came here for a friend's birthday, and the decor really set the mood for a nice night out. For dinner, I ordered the Nayarit mango salad with steak, and that was actually very flavorful--probably the highlight of the meal. However, things went downhill when we got the bill. I was charged $39.99 for my salad with steak, which didn't make sense. The menu listed the salad at $15.99, with steak as an additional charge (around $8), so the total shouldn't have been anywhere near that. I brought it up, and after I questioned it, the waiter came back with an explanation about a "Valentine's special"... which didn't really add up considering we're almost in April. The price was eventually adjusted, but the situation left a bad impression. It felt like I had to catch an error that shouldn't have happened in the first place. This Mexican restaurant and bar in downtown Fullerton is so stylish and beautiful. We came in for a late brunch originally but the brunch service has ended already. So we got regular dinner menu instead. The menu was big with a lot of seafood choices. Also limited gluten free items. We chose to sit at a booth in the main dining room which was spacious and relaxing. We had Patton silver margaritas and lemon iced tea as beverages. For food we decided on chips & salsa, red snapper, rack of lamb with zucchini & mushrooms, also corn tamale as a side. The food was absolutely delicious in big portions! We loved the special tamale that chef made for us. The strawberry tres leches was the best I've ever had! We enjoyed the food and drinks so much. The service was so friendly and attentive. Usually, you can tell a lot about a place based on how good the chips and salsa are and boy, were we excited for our food! The salsa is really, really good. There was fresh avocado which I thought would be my pallet cleanser, but alas, also covered in grease and mushy. Came here on a Saturday looking for tacos and was surprised to find it practically empty. The place has a very classy feel to it. Think Red O in Newport Beach vibes. We tried all the tacos on the menu and will say the pastor was probably my favorite. They had steaks and lobster on their full menu so we'll definitely need to come back and try that out to really get a feel for the restaurant. The service was awesome and they had a lot of great looking drinks. The one thing I will say is the portions for the tacos are on their small side but I wouldn't expect anything less from a fancy Mexican restaurant! Overall food was good. I was so excited about my birthday brunch and couldn't wait for the stuffed French toast with strawberry cream cheese and tres leches cream. Unfortunately I received regular French toast and when I asked about it I was brought regular cream cheese on a plate and told sorry about the kitchen. I asked if they could make it and I was just told "sorry about the kitchen". Why have something on the menu if you can't make it? The same thing went for the chocolate and Carmel mouse cake. There was no Carmel. Staff was nice and service was pretty good until more people came in and then it started to dwindle. There were no kids menu and they charged us $17 for three small pieces of chicken and some fruit since it was considered the chicken and waffles plate but we asked to substitute fruit instead of the waffles. Food took forever but I guess that means it's fresh. My steak was good, but others said theirs was overcooked. Water refills were warm and had no ice. We had to ask several times to have it refilled. The atmosphere is beautiful and looks like it would be wonderful, but I'm saddened by the experience and we won't be back. read more

Walking into Lagos felt like walking into the perfect first date scene in a rom-com - vibey lighting, upbeat music, and that subtle confidence like "yeah, this night is gonna be good." First, the aguachile - honestly, it was like meeting someone who actually listens on a date. Fresh, tangy, spicy, and so good it gave me butterflies. Then came the tomahawk steak, which basically could have swept me off my feet. Think Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Handsome but in steak form - epic, juicy, dramatic entrance and all. ... well. I imagine it that way because we didn't order it, the table next to us did and it was a full on cabaret show when it was presented to the group. And don't even get me started on the mezcal flight. It was valentines day and to their credit they were completely running on schedule. We arrived early but were seated essentially by res time. The hostess was nice and professional, the wait staff more of the same. The ambiance was aight. Cool lighting, I enjoyed sitting next to the little tree. All in all, not bad. There was a set menu for V-Day, which I hadn't anticipated but I should have. My bad. Alas, there's ceviche as an option, all is right with the world. But this is where the tale turns diabolical: If you're serving ceviche (fish, shrimp, or both), there should at least be tostadas or crackers. That's pretty standard, and without it the dish is awkward to eat and lacks contrast. The other issue with their shrimp ceviche even had it been fecal-free is that the shrimp were so large (basically prawn-sized) and poorly cut that the citrus only "cooked" the outside. The centers were still translucent and raw, with that slick, undercured texture. Def nauseating and not the vibe to experience when chewing crustacean. For context, my husband's fish ceviche was actually very good, which made this even more confusing. It's not like the kitchen can't execute-- it's just like they didn't even try here. The cocktails were aight. Spirit-forward citrus bombs. I won't complain about a stiff drink though. But yeah... between the undeveined shrimp and the undercured centers, I couldn't eat my plate. I really wish I could give Lagos a better review. Beautiful atmosphere, food was good, craft cocktails very good. Unfortunately service was not good. Very very slow, the restaurant was not busy even though we went on Easter afternoon. We had an entire section to ourselves, we were a party of 8. The manager came to our table to help take orders but even he disappeared. We sat for almost 2 hrs and the very large empty table behind us was never bused it had dirty dishes, cups and food that sat. Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is for the ambiance, food and drinks. read more

This Mexican restaurant was on my list of places to visit for a few months. Finally got to experience the dining, atmosphere and drinks. I was impressed with the decor and the tables and chairs. The food was delicious and the drinks are amazing. Rene was our server and he was awesome. Checked up on us multiple times. Great service! read more

Nice ambience and decor. We had reservations on a Friday at 6:30 p.m. and were seated quickly. The table we were seated at was wobbly, so we let our server know. She had someone come over and place napkins underneath to level it out, which helped. Our server was friendly and recommended a delicious shrimp appetizer served over a chipotle sauce. I can't remember the name, but it was very good. For our entrees, my husband and I both ordered the Mar y Tierra, which included lobster and filet mignon. Unfortunately, we were both disappointed. The steak was dry and lacked flavor. We asked for sauce, and they brought out mushroom broth and chimichurri. We also asked for salt. These helped a little, but the steak was still very underwhelming, especially for a $95 entree. Overall, I really wanted to be wowed, but we weren't. The service and atmosphere were nice, but the main course did not meet our expectations. That's why I'm giving this place 3 stars. Though grateful to have tried a new place that is local, we wouldn't go back. read more

Everything about Lagos is great. When you walk in, it has a club vibe and it's a grand entrance. Once we were seated, we ordered a round of the Mexican Candy shooter and did not regret that!!!! So yum! Once we ordered our food & received it.... Even more yum. Every single dish (and there were 5 of us) was soooooo good! It's been a week now and we keep bringing it up... each one of us, on separate occasions. That's actually what reminded me to write this review. After the 4th mention... I had to write this review to give Lagos their due!!! We will definitely be returning so we can all be filled with deliciousness once again and again and again. read more

Lagos Mexican Cuisine is located in the SOCO district of downtown Fullerton. There is convenient free parking right across the street in the multi-level parking garage. The restaurant can get busy at times and I recommend making a reservation on OpenTable. There were no reservations available on a Saturday night, but we took a chance and went anyway. With no delay, we were seated at a high-top table in the bar area which also hosts one of several regular seating areas. The restaurant has a trendy feel and has a lot of multi-colored lighting and great décor. The restrooms are even well decorated and have an upscale feel. The bar looks nice and there are several TVs which had sports on. It took about ten minutes for a server to initially come to our table, but after that the service was smooth and timely. Chips and salsa are not complementary but we ordered some anyway. The chips were nice and fresh and the salsa had good flavor and some heat that slowly creeps up on you. I enjoyed a jalapeno margarita which had a perfect mix of tequila, mixer, and spice and I always like the Tajin rim. She liked the Sol De Passion cocktail but would have rather had a full drink without the champagne shot on the side. We asked the server if you're supposed to pour it in and he said some people do and some just have it on the side. I had the Yucatan shrimp which was a great dish. There were a lot of shrimp inside and the tomatillo sauce had a light heat to it. The rice was nice and fluffy and I think I tasted a little touch of lime. I usually do not like beans, especially when they contain whole beans. But surprisingly these beans were delicious and I actually ate them all. We eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants and this is only the second place where I actually really enjoyed the beans. She really enjoyed the Al Pastor tacos. The quality and flavor of the food is always most important, but it's nice when the presentation is good also and these were nice looking entrees. This is the second time we have dined here and we will definitely be back again. read more

This restaurant is beautiful especially the bar area. There is live music on Friday evening. However, I left disappointed with their service and food. It took more than 20 minutes to get the Último beso drink ($17.99) when all the other drinks already arrived. The restaurant was not busy at the time that the drinks were ordered. The waiters honestly forgot about our large party. Needed to ask multiple times for refills of water. The drinks at this place are fantastic. The margarita flight ($28.99) is a great option for trying different types of flavors. The food is a different story. Ordered the pesto pasta with chicken since it is a specialty and honestly it fell flat. There is a reason why you should not order pasta at a Mexican restaurant. The server who flambéed the tabilta ($49.99) was the nicest person but he wasn't our waiter. If you want a place to only drink and have nice pictures, this place is for you. I would not recommend the food. It is not worth it. read more
