The first time I visited I only had a flight of tequila and it was near closing time. Gustavo the bartender was very welcoming and seated us promptly. I was surprised by the tequila presentation as I only expected shots alone. The presentation of the tequila flight was fun and unexpectedly turned out to be an opportunity to learn about culture. At my second visit, I visited solo and ordered both food and drinks this time. Talia greeted and seated me right away. She and Gustavo were both super nice and made me feel safe and comfortable at the bar. Armando was also very friendly and cordial. The asada taco was surprisingly good. They did not skimp on the meat. Also the chips and salsa are soooo good. My favorite is the red salsa. I love how the chips are thin and crunchy. If you like margaritas, I highly recommend the Lime Margarita. So good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]La Huasteca is the type of place where you can visit alone or with friends and have a pleasant time no matter what.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely will be back.
We spent the weekend in Buena Park and visited the Source outdoor Korean mall. At the very top of the mall, on the third floor, is La Huasteca, which is a Mexican restaurant centered around a bunch of Korean restaurants and bars. Once we arrived they were understaffed but the bartender came from behind the bar to help us and prepare a table outside for us. My friend ordered noodles and wanted to eat with us and they were cool about it. After cleaning our table, they quickly brought us menus and took or drink orders. Finally a waitress came and helped us so the bartender could go back to attending to the bar and she was also great. Service was solid. The only thing they messed up on was bringing our guacamole and chips after we had our meals. I went with the salmon Puerta Vallarta with rice, which was very good! It does come with Habanero peppers and I made the unfortunate mistake of eating one and burning my mouth. My kids ordered a cheese burger with fries and a bean & cheese burrito with fries. They both enjoyed their meals. My wife went with the chicken fajitas and I had a few pieces of chicken, which was really good. Overall, the food was good and I would go back if at the mall and wanted something other than Korean food. The servers and bartender were great! OOOO 4 out of 5 Afros
My family and I were craving tacos so, we decided to go to this Mexican restaurant located on the 3rd floor of a Korean shopping mall. Lol! There is free parking at the structure next door. There was a consensus for Ensenada Fish Tacos and the Quesabirria Tacos at my table. One person did ordered Potato Tacos and I don't even see that on the menu. Everyone at my table seemed to enjoy their food. For every 1 Quesabirria taco, you get a small sauce container of a nice and tangy consome. The breaded part of the fish taco was darker than I usually find them to be, and it did taste like it was fried for too long. They are generous with all the ingredients in the taco -- it's a big bite. We enjoyed our cucumber agua fresca. It wasn't too sweet and they made sure to give us a glass half- full of ice so we could have more of what we actually pay for. The staff was wonderful and very attentive. The food came out in a timely manner, our water glasses were always full and we walked out of the restaurant pretty satisfied with our experience. It's a great place to have a birthday party! Tell all your friends about it. The birthday celebrant will get to wear a big Mariachi Sombrero!

The food is pretty good! I got the camarones locos which is basically like a seafood boil bag, it wasn't terrible but I wouldn't get it again. If you haven't been here it's worth a try! Since the last time I've been it seems they changed their menu so I have included an updated picture.

We ordered guacamole, shrimp ceviche, Mexican Ceasar salad with grilled chicken, two fish tacos, one shrimp taco, and one asada taco. The shrimp taco had way too much batter - there was only two shrimp inside the batter. I took the batter off as it was just too much. The other tacos were had by my friends and they said the tacos were just OK. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was pretty empty on a Saturday during lunch time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had to flag down the server to get refills on water & sodas. They were nice about letting us have the cake at the restaurant (one of the friends brought it for bday) & provided paper plates & plastic forks for them. Tonight, I had dinner with my coworkers at La Huastrca. On Wednesdays, margarita liters are $25, which felt like a great deal. We ordered the mango flavor but received lime instead. It wasn't what we expected, but it was still enjoyable. The nachos came in a smaller portion than I thought, though they tasted good. For their signature dish, Molcajete, we chose the seafood, but what arrived was mostly meat. We mentioned it, but since we didn't want to wait, we decided to just go ahead and eat it. When the check came, the margarita was charged at $30 instead of $25, but the server corrected it right away after we pointed it out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was lively and pleasant[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but the service left a little to be desired. Still, since it was our team's first dinner together, we all had a nice time, even if there were a few small disappointments along the way.
My aunt suggested this place because my husband was looking for good Mexican food. I was a little leery seeing the reviews. Tucked away in the top floor in the corner of this Korean-infused shopping establishment is a Mexican restaurant with amazing and delicious food! Hidden gem! The chips were thin, crisp and light. They tasted fresh. I wish they had mild salsa though. Otherwise, great start. I could eat 3 baskets of their chips! They have an extensive menu of margaritas. Lots of fruity flavors. Very strong but tasty. We ordered: Carnitas Burrito - huge! Hubby loved the carnitas. He said it was very good. Street Tacos - looked delicious. My aunt ate them all. Cochinita Pibil - looked fancy as it was beautifully plated. My son devoured it. Pulpo Carbonizado - Grilled octopus was fantastic! Great smoky flavor. Everything on the sizzling plate was grilled perfectly! The asparagus, the corn, the potatoes, but the octopus was soooooo good. Tender, charred and succulent. I'd order this again. Service was good. No complaints. I'd come back.

My partner ordered the mixed fajitas (shrimp, chicken, and steak) which comes with rice and beans and pico de gallo (4*). Another family member ordered two carne asada tacos (4*). My step father in law ordered the queso fundido with chorizo (4*). They brought a small amount of chips and red (4*) and green (5*) salsas. Happy hour lime margaritas (3*). The food was good, as was the service, although it did need salt. The portions were large so it helped to offset the elevated prices. I would return.
We came to La Huasteca with a large party of 10 (our reservation was originally for 8), and although we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a bigger table to open up, we eventually got seated once another large group left. I ordered the ribeye steak, which came with asparagus and corn. The steak was good, but I was a little surprised it didn't include beans and rice, so we had to order those as a side. The chips and salsa were actually really good and a nice way to start the meal. Unfortunately, the experience felt a bit rushed since we weren't able to order dessert -- the kitchen was closing at 10. They also seemed understaffed, and I honestly felt bad for our waitress because she was doing her best trying to handle multiple tables at once.
Great food! We loved the mango margaritas, and the nachoes were also fantastic! The molcajete was also delicious, and we loved the options on the seafood one (shrimp scallop octopus fish 1/2 lobster). The seafood felt very fresh and paired wonderfully. While the food was delicous, we did find that service wasn't as great. Maybe it was a busy day but our waiter did not drop by with napkins and took a while to get the check from us. But overall great and would definitely return

Came here for lunch recently with one of my book clubs per recommendation of one of our girlies who is a regular here! Ordered queso fundido to share, ceviche pescado, taco gobernado (shrimp and cheese), and quesabirria taco (cheese and pulled beef). Pretty filling and was delicious, even if it was on the pricey side. There was no wait for a table, but the service was a bit delayed due to them only having maybe 1 - 2 servers on the floor at any time. They were very friendly when we were able to flag them down, though! I'd come back for their happy hour if I was already at The Source. read more

My family of 7 came here for dinner the other night while on vacation and we are so glad we did! Our server was excellent and the food was so fresh and beautifully plated. Our kids loved everything they got and the Cadillac margarita was delicious and fresh as well. read more

This was my first time at the Source. It is majorly Asian foods, but we found this Mexican spot in the corner lol . I was craving some Mexican food so I thought I'd try this place out. I didn't expect much from a Mexican restaurant inside the Source Mall (mainly Korean establishments), but I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed! The Molcajete Azteca was delicious with a variety of meats and veggies. The manager, Bernard, also came by to check on how the food was, which I really appreciated. Not many restaurants do that these days. Apparently the complimentary chips and salsa are made in-house. They were light, thin, and crispy--just the way I like them. The waitress/bartender, Lucero, was also very friendly and fixed me up a mean Michelada. I'll definitely be returning for food and drinks. 10/10 read more

Every now & then, my bf and I try something new other than Asian foods. Heard this spot was really popular in the Source, so we had to try it out. Parking: There's a free parking structure. Finding a spot can be a hit or miss. There are compact parking spots, so be careful. Ambiance/Environment: This spot is located in the Source on the 3rd floor. They have a large space with plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. Perfect for groups of all sizes. It's a casual spot with great music. There's live entertainment on Fridays & Sundays. They also offer happy hour during the weekdays @2-6pm. Service: Everyone was welcoming, courteous, and efficient! Special shout out to Johnny! He took great care of us! Our waters were constantly filled and empty plates removed. What we ordered: 1) Trio Enchiladas - I ordered chicken enchiladas, and it came with 3 drenched in salsa Huasteca, salsa Potosina, and Mole Poblano sprinkled with cotija cheese. This was also served with rice, beans, & pico. Not only were the colors of the sauces vibrant, but they were also mouthwatering! The enchiladas were cooked well and easy to eat. 2) Tacos - Asada, Quesabirria, and Al Pastor. These were all delicious. My favorite was the Quesabirria. The consomé wasn't too spicy and very smoky! The asada & al pastor were flavorful! 3) Camarones a la Diabla - Shrimp and white rice with zarandeado. This was spicccyyy! I love the flavors of the sauce. There was a generous amount of shrimps! 4) Molcajete Azteca - Steak, chicken, pork, shrimps, chorizo, grilled cactus, panela cheese, pickled red onions, & their Molcajete sauce in a large rock stone. This was also served with rice, beans, pico, & tortillas x2. This was HUGE! Everything was absolutely mouthwatering! Make sure to drench everything in the Molcajete sauce to give it more flavor. Pricing: Definitely worth the price $$$. Dishes are large and shareable. The vibes and staff were amazing. We left satisfied and fulfilled! read more

My first time trying Huasteca and what a pleasant surprise!Particularly on the sizes! My friend and I decided to split a ceiviche and an app thinking the ceiviche wouldn't full both of us. We ordered the al pastor nachos thinking it would be a small size, wrong! In the best way their nachos are quiet large in size,served in a shallow soup bowl so theres way more in the bottom than what is shown. It has 2 types of cheses, nachos and mozzarella (i think?) And plenty of deliclious al pastor in the center. Easily shared between 4 people. We barely made a dent so my friend took the leftovers. It was delicious, loved it more than the ceviche. Overall good service and nice vibe! Saw some couples,so perf place for a date night dinner. read more

Visiting family in the area and we decided to have a meal before departing. Located on the corner of the third floor of a pretty cool outdoor mall. Luckily, there was no line and we were seated immediately. Vast menu to order from with a good selection and good customer service to accompany. We started our dinner with their table side guacamole and queso fundido. For our main entree, we went with their Molcajete with the addition of octopus. Food was decent, but could have been better. Hard to compete with other restaurants we have visited with similar dining options. Worth a try if in the area. read more

Came here for my birthday and honestly I will definitely be returning! The service was amazing ,our waiter was super attentive and very funny, which made the whole experience even better. The place is full of beautiful decorations and they had great music playing the whole time, which made it feel really fun and festive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came as a table of 8 and every single one of us enjoyed our food. I got their asada quesadilla, which came with a side of guac that was honestly probably the best guacamole I've ever had in my life! The portions were huge and I had to get a few to go boxes. I also ordered their birria tacos, such a simple thing to order, but wow, they were so good. Probably some of the best birria tacos I've had, and I'm picky with mine! They also made me feel really special on my birthday by putting on special music for me and even putting a sombrero on me for most of the dinner, which was hilarious and fun. They brought me a little slice of cake for my birthday too and it was really good! We also ordered churros for the table and they were so yummy, everyone loved them. Came in to enjoy a evening out with friends . For a Saturday it wasn't super crowded at the time but had an overall hip and not overly loud in the restaurant. They did have music playing in the main part of the restaurant and tvs. They have a patio area as well with heated fans maybe good for a cooler evening to see the view . Chips and salsa at arriving was served ,freshly made which was great . There's tons of options but majority of us got taco platters and birria. Super flavourful and filling . There were some camera men coming around offering affordable shots for the table . The servers were super attentive and friendly . Would return to enjoy a good time and have a few drinks. read more

We took my mother, who lives near by, for a late lunch, and the food was great, and everything is made here, and the service and staff were all so nice! Great patio up front surrounded by plants, which made it very private feeling. My mom said she is coming back for happy hour! She's 88, so kind-a cute she is up for a beer or margarita with some Guacamole with friends on the patio. Highly recommend this spot if you are coming to see a movie or staying at the hotel which are both adjacent to the outdoor mall area! read more

Everything from service to food is good! On weekends they have live music, a fun dining experience. For food we ordered: - Molcajete Azteca (Steak, chicken, pork, shrimp, chorizo, grilled cactus, panela cheese -- serves 2 ) huge portion good deal - recommend! - Enmoladas Poblanas ( chicken with sweet mole poblano sauce) - margarita flight ( 4 margaritas- we choose guava, mango, pineapple, strawberry) the pineapple is our favorite one. The service is friendly- service ask us how we doing a few times, food comes out 10-15 minutes fast. Located at the source top floor. I used to really like this place because they have good seafood, however I stopped coming for a while. This time I ordered to go for their spicy seafood appetizer, it was truly a disappointment. The sauce was still good, but the portion was so trash. Before they would provide side of chips and salsa, but I didn't receive anything at all. The octopus and scallop portion was so little. Probably would not return unless I'm really craving their food, but keep in mind of the portion size. read more

I'm not a fan of the dish I ordered, Chile en Nogada, which is a difficult dish to prepare but is a national dish of Mexico. See the pic because it looked perfect. The first bite I had was the white sauce which is supposed to be a rich walnut cream sauce but it was cold, sweet and tasted like melted ice cream. Walnuts, cilantro and pomegranate seeds were on top. The poblano chile was large well stuffed and totally intact. The filling seemed like the same beef filling that my son had inside his enchilada. The filling is supposed to be the most unique part of this dish since it has meat, spice, nuts and fruits that make it a Chile en Nogada. My filling was all beef. We came to hang out at the bar today. Is really good customer service very kind bartender. Sir chipsins also right away. Great atmosphere, clean bathrooms. The chips are really l Light in crisp. I've gotten Margarita, they made it skinny for me with club soda.It is really good, Especially since they did not cheat me out on tequila.What a great pour!! The french rise are really great! He tastes very fresh like they were cut straight in the back. Is we had a great visit and would stop by again. read more

It says a lot that we went to a Mexican restaurant at a Korean mall Apparently, they celebrate your birthday by giving you a big ahh sombrero hat and a cheesecake slice... and the best part is that they'll sing you a song What makes this restaurant so special is that none of the Korean restaurants I have been at the source would go out their way to celebrate your birthday. What was so surprising was that they overheard it was one of our birthdays and we didn't even have to take that awkward moment to ask if they do any birthday specials! This is our favorite place to go for Taco Tuesday. All day Tuesday, house margaritas are $8 and select tacos are $2.50. Good quality food and drinks. We ordered the asada, pollo, al pastor, and birria tacos. Any drink or meal comes with free chips and 2 salsas - mild and hot. We've tried their chicken and salmon entrees and those are good too. The only feedback for area of improvement is the service, which can be very slow. read more

Does this place take reservations ? I've made over 50 calls today and the line is always "busy". I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone.

Yes! We do not take reservations, but we welcome walk-ins.
Are you still doing Sunday brunch? If so is it buffet style like it was before covid, or do you just order off regular menu?
Not anymore, regular menu only
Are your beans vegetarian?
The ones we use for our vegetarian burritos are, but our regular refried beans aren't.
