As for the food, this is where I find things to fall short of ideal. Their American items are typically quite good with a short wait, but their South Asian/Fusion items can certainly be a hit or miss from night to night. When you're paying almost $20 per plate with add-ons of rice or naan, or possibly even more, you want to be sure the quality stays high. Furthermore, I've noticed that portions have gone down overall which is disappointing in terms of value. From their start to now, it's definitely been an improvement, but it's sad to see certain factors let them down from being one of the best spots around. We picked Spice Rack since the venue was a good fit across various parameters - size of the venue, overall look and feel, choice of cuisine, flexibility of the venue in accommodating small requests, proximity etc. Niranjan, who was our POC, was approachable and worked with our requirements along the way - whether it was decision on food, enabling us early access on the day of the event to get the venue decked up and making sure that he was around at the venue when our event was happening. This was one of the reasons why we decided not to go with another venue (Roma Palace) since the person responsible for the banquet hall was just not responsive. The venue can hold around 170 people, our event was sold out fully. It has been around for a while and hence there is a bit of wear and tear that is evident (which is why my rating is not a 5) but for the price point and the service, it does offer good value for money. The food was spot on - we had Spring rolls, Chilli Paneer, Gobi Manchurian, Malai Kofta, Paneer Butter Masala, Dal Tadka, Veg biriyani with raita, White rice, Papad, Shaahi Gulab Jamun and supplemented this with ice cream & Soda which we purchased from outside. All of the dishes were very good - Paneer dishes had enough and more Paneer in them which is often an issue at Banquet halls. In fact, Chilli Paneer just had Paneer and sauces - again something we find lot of restaurants do is to add onions and bell peppers. When the event was over, Niranjan's team provided us zip loc bags to take the food home and for dishes that had sizable quantity, they even provided disposable trays to take the food home. That showed the focus on making sure that customers walked out happy in every sense. The 2 staff members who were allocated to support our event were also very nice and cordial, they worked hard to make sure that food was replenished in a timely fashion. Niranjan also gave us coordinates of DJ's who work with Spice Rack. We found our DJ for the day, Sameer, though this list. Sameer also did an excellent job and was easy to work with. All in all, it was a fun event for our community members and we are happy with the choice of venue which was a big part of the equation.

I recently went to this Halal restaurant for the first time. Price is expensive for the quantity…read moreyou get, but most of all, they apply sneaky charge without telling customers or asking for their permission when paying by card. We ordered chicken biryani and tastewise, it was okay and nothing special. $14.99 for a small size of biryani, specially chicken, is a lot in my opinion compare to others around the same area. What I didn't like is the sneaky illegal charge (hence low rating) of $0.50 if paying by card but without telling the customer or asking for their permission. They think that no customers check their receipt and they can sneak in whatever charge they want. This is true majority of the time, but this time they got caught with me because I am very familiar with these businesses, their sneaky tactics, and have always checked my receipt. If you look at my attached receipt, my total should have been $16.23 ($14.99 + 8.25% ($1.24) tax). However, as you can see in the attached receipt, I was charged $16.72! No explanation of that extra $0.50. How is this legal? How come I was not explained about this extra charge before charging me and asked if I still want to continue with the card or not? Maybe I would have paid with the cash had I knew about it! Think how many transactions they do on a daily basis and how many times they have done this illegal transactions and ripped off customers! Of course, extra $0.50 is not much for the majority of the customers but for the business it does add up at the end of the day! I really don't care that this extra charge is maybe going towards the vendor of the card processor, but why not advertised it clearly. How hard and difficult is it? What is going on and wrong with these businesses? This is really getting ridiculous and out of control! So frustrating and disappointing that there were no signs or any verbal communications about this additional charge prior to or after payment! How is this even legal when you don't advertise these charges, don't tell customers about these charges, and then just charge without customer's permission and then just hand over the receipt as if nothing has happened! Unfortunately, not many customers check their receipt and some don't even ask for the receipt let aside checking for the correct transaction amount. These businesses taking full advantage of those type of customers and just cashing in. Again, how hard is it for the business to be honest, transparent and clearly advertise with a sign if there will be any type of additional charge on top of the menu price? If putting a signage is a problem then how about training cashier and have them tell the customer clearly if they will be responsible for any additional charges. As I have aforementioned, had I knew about the additional credit card charges maybe I would have paid with the cash! In my opinion, there should NOT be any additional charges, beside the applicable taxes, and all "hidden" charges should be added in the menu price or just clearly advertised it. It is expensive for EVERYONE and not just for businesses. It is really not fair for these businesses to rip off customers with their hidden sneaky tactics like this! If they can't afford to take credit cards transaction then just don't take it. Hopefully this business will pay attention to my review and fixed this issue and will be transparent to the customers when it comes to payment. If not, then I will have no choice but to file a complaint with the applicable enforcement office(s) regarding these unauthorized charges. Businesses like these do make extra money in short amount of time, but they don't realize how quickly others have failed and closed down when they were doing the same thing.
