I think Laila's massage work is among the best I have ever had. Her work is thorough and often deep , but always careful and not painful. I am an old retired guy with my share of aches and pains and Laila spends probably 2/3 of the time on the areas you say are your trouble spots. I always feel I get a good overall workout and the big benefit for me is gradual improvement in flexibility and overall muscle balance. The muscle testing is key and seems to help Laila spot which muscles are overworked and which are just slackers. I came to Laila because of a series of injuries that left me feeling like I couldn't carry things, drive, or walk well without pain. My body felt "twisted" all the time, like it was uneven. In just a few sessions, I have relearned how to move my body and help it reset when I'm on my own. She was brilliant at teaching tools that I could use on my own. She also has a wonderful, uncommon set of techniques for testing for imbalances and resolving them very quickly. I felt amazing when I'd walk out of her office! I'd give her ten stars if I could! I saw Laila at her San Francisco office, and boy oh boy am I happy to have found her. I had some serious muscle pain in my low back and stiffness in my hamstrings. I can not recommend Laila's enough!!!! I am indebted to her for her skills but also for her tenacity in taking on my injuries when others have thrown up their hands. Between my chiropractor and Laila's AMR (Active Muscle Response), myofacial work and other techniques she incorporates, I am getting relief and finally healing an old martial art injury. Laila and I have known each other for 15+ years. I have always known how kind and gentle she is but it wasn't until after I had a bout of sciatica that Laila worked on me. Magical experience. There is a difference hearing and listening, Laila listens. She is attentive to the body and voice, and responds accordingly. She communicates gently and clearly. Her touch is both fluid and precise. Laila is interested in people and the physiology/anatomy of the body, you can feel her presence. By the end of the massage, I always feel completely transformed to a relaxed and cared for space. I went to see Laila for lower back pain based on the recommendation of a friend. I found Laila to be a very good listener and to work with me rather than follow a prescribed routine. She made me feel comfortable, asking regularly if temperature and pressure were ok. I liked her mix of massage combined with muscle testing and adjustments which provided the right amount of relaxation while addressing my pain issues. A nice plus was that Laila didn't stop when the time was up but when she felt she'd addressed my issues. Something I haven't seen in a while especially at overpriced salon spas where CMTs do back to back massages and are not able to fully focus on you. I found Laila through yelp and am so glad I did. I was looking for a really good, but reasonable, massage therapist nearby and I was impressed with her reviews and so decided to make an appointment. I liked her so much and felt so much better that I have gotten two series of six massages each since then. I totally agree with the other reviewer that she truly listens and will always carefully tailor what she does to respond to whatever issues you are having (unless you just want an overall massage). One of the issues I was having was lower back pain and she was great at identifying how my posture and other factors might be contributing to it and addressing these issues. She is clearly very knowledgeable about the body and her work. She also did a cranial sacral treatment that was really helpful. In addition to being a gifted massage therapist, she is a genuinely nice and caring person. You'll wish you could get a massage every week! read more
