I genuinely was happy with my pedicure and dip manicure. The technician, who is the owner, was very kind and made sure I was pleased with the service. My only small complaint is that I made an appointment. A group of 4 came in without an appointment which made my mani/pedi take much longer than I had anticipated. I totally understand that walk-in's are business for a small shop. But, maybe they could have had the 4 people wait until the nail techs had completed with the folks that were already mid-service. Not a huge issue, more of a first world problem. Otherwise, I highly recommend this nail salon. read more

I'm going to say it's hit or miss. I came in with two friends. I appreciated them accommodating us since we didn't have an appointment. 1. My nails came out great. I did an acrylic fill and changed the shape of my nails from a squared-round to a coffin. I thought they were done well and my technician kept them thin like I prefer. I wish I got her name cuz she did great. 2. My other friends were less thrilled. One waited almost an hour, at which time I was almost done. She was less than thrilled with her nails and noticed as we left that her cuticles were uneven and messy. Neither friend got a massage or anything with their gel manicures which we all found odd. 3. I know this is a small shop and while they did tell some walk in customers that they would be too busy to be taken care of they did also take a few too many in my opinion. However, I visited this salon for the first time today and I am more than satisfied with my nails. The salon was busy but Duck still took his time shaping my nails until they were perfect. I was visiting from out of town and needed a pedicure before a trip to Hawaii. Kim was recommended to me by a local. She did a fantastic and thorough job on my pedicure, the salon was clean and I was very pleased with the attention to hygienics. I came here to get my acrylics removed and get a manicure. They had a hard time removing the acrylic from my nail and ultimately did a poor job of it. Some acrylic is still on my nail. Then they put too much pressure while drilling my nail and hurt my pinky. They didn't shape my nail or push back the cuticle either. I shaped them myself. I would go elsewhere to remove acrylics. I switched from gel to acrylic a few months ago and this is one of the places in Sonoma that does acrylics. On occasion they will have Fox News on the tv, which would normal put me off, but I have found that it usually creates some bonding with the other customers and a respectful debate with the guy who works there. Prices are fair and he is a perfectionist when it comes to manicures, so I have enjoyed this place so far. read more

I scheduled Kim for a manicure and pedicure for an elderly woman who cannot leave her home. I made this appointment over two weeks ago. Kim called this morning...3 hours before the scheduled appointment...to abruptly cancel for an implausible reason. And of course, made no offer to reschedule or work around her conflict. Absolutely made up. My elderly friend has been waiting WEEKS for this appointment and is in dire need of a trim...cannot put her shoes on. I used yelp to pick out this place! And it worked out quite well. Normally I get my nails done by Hannah at Devyn's in Vallejo when I have the time to treat myself. This time I was in the market for somewhere a bit closer to home now that I live in Sonoma for those quick visits. Absolutely nothing bad to say about Devyn's but this is my new go to salon. I strolled in off the street without having called first. While they were busy they fit me in quickly and did (as another reviewer stated), meticulous work. I just switched over to rounded from the square tip and didn't realize how quickly they would become unmanageable for well... LIFE the moment they grew out a little. Nor was I aware what an ordeal the gel polish would be to change colors. I was pleasantly surprised at the amazing job, I believe it was Ann did, doing exactly what I asked and I feel improved my manicure all around. Love the shape she did for my fingers- still slightly pointed but with more gradual gentle rounding. I could probably have gotten a fill, but I was in a hurry and she painted them perfectly to conceal how close I am to needing one. Attention to detail like that wins me over quickly. I know I sound crazy going into so much detail but anyone who has ever struggled to find the 'perfect' nail job will understand. read more

I hate to write such a bad review, but I have to say, I've never had such a bad experience at a nail salon! I had to walk out without polish on my nails! I've had acrylic nails for probably 15 years. Over the last three years I switched to gel (liquid not powder) and have been very happy with the strength and lack of any lifting. I recently relocated to Sonoma and was having a difficult time finding a salon that does liquid gel nails so was happy to find this spot. I went to Sonoma Nails and had a fill. Upon leaving, 3 nails broke within the hour! I went back the next day to have them fixed and we were nearing the end, 2 of the nails were so short they were below the tip of my finger. The manicurist had added an extended tip on only one of the three! When I politely said that was not okay, a few of the staff spoke among themselves (in a language I'm not fluent in) and then told me it was MY fault for not letting her know before hand that I wanted them longer. Absolutely crazy! What's the point of have unnatural nails if they do not all match?! They told me I would have to come back in 2 weeks when they had grown out to fix them!!! While this was going on another customer came in (super angry) about her own broken nails within a few days of a fill. They tried to blame her telling her that she was too rough on them - "not their fault". So insane!!! I had to walk out. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO HERE. I can handle mistakes, but fix them! I went into Sonoma Nails today for a gel manicure with a gift certificate for a free manicure. A manicure here is 15$ and gel is $30, so I was expecting to pay $15. I handed the certificate to Ann, the owner, who said she couldn't honor it because I waited over a year to use it. She told me she usually puts a year expiration date on gift certificates and "forgot" to do so on this one. I'm very sorry, but that's not my fault. It is also illegal to put an expiration date on a gift certificate in the state of California. As a business owner, I'm disappointed she did not try to honor this. After a few minutes of arguing, she finally agreed to let me use it. These few minutes of arguing consisted of Ann yelling at me in front everyone in the salon and acting very unprofessional. It was truly uncomfortable, and I'm sorry for anyone else who had to watch it. As I was rung up, Ann told me that when this certificate was issued, manicures there were $12, so I should pay the difference for 12. I was so frustrated at this point I went with it. So now, $18 right? No, she changed it when she finally charged me out and asked for $21. She did not honor what she had already asked for and was dishonest. That is not the way to conduct business. It's awful to try to cheat a customer the way she did to me. Needless to say, this was a terrible experience. I've never posted a yelp review in my life and was so surprised by how badly Ann treated me. I had heard good things about Sonoma Nails before today, but after this I will not be returning because of the horrible customer service and treatment. Ann has done them, now, for quite a few years, to many compliments. while Ann was out ill, her daughter-in-law, Kim, started doing them for me. I am picky about my nails and they look fantastic. I have been going to Sonona nails for a year now! I get acrylic, medium length nails with gel! I love that they have so many colors in both gel and regular polishes. To me personally, I think they give the best pedicures, they not only message your feet calves and ankles but also do a hot towel wrap and hot stones on your legs. It's an amazing experience. The only thing is is that you have to go in knowing what you want/ show them the design you want. You have to keep in mind they can't picture exactly what you want unless you take your time and describe, they are people too!
