As far as Riverside goes, it's not the worst place. It's a total bro, biker and match.com- over 40 and on a first date since the divorce- kind of place. The doorman is really nice and the bartenders are on top of it. The food is OK- nothing to write home about. The waitresses are really nice too. If you want to pay a $6 cover to hang out in a tavern, fancy yourself a "cage fighter" and bleed jager-bombs, it's probably your scene. read more

Before looking at lights at the Mission Inn, one of the couples had heard that this place was fun. Lake Alice Trading was kinda cool with downstairs tables and chairs with an upstairs bar only. They have some interesting live music and a really cool five foot high raised stage. There were really busy that night so service was a bit slow, but our server really tried hard and she was very nice and honest about the menu and drink selection. There was an okay selection of craft brews to select from and we all had the Hanger 24 Chocolate Stout. We were not really that hungry at the time so we all ordered the very large nacho plate which was really really good! A solid two stars. This review is not meant to deter you from visiting Lake Alice... sometimes you want a two star bar. I've been here a couple times now, and I am consistently shocked that they have a cover charge on some nights. The tables are sticky, and the beer selection is not amazing. If you are particularly unlucky you might find yourself here on a night that they have a live band. I'm young, just turned 23, and the music here is too loud for me. Lake Alice has some positives: it's a big venue, there is plenty of seating, and it's open later than a lot of places in downtown. DO NOT GO THERE TO EAT. I went for lunch today at a friend's suggestion. They have raised their prices, AND made sides an extra charge a few weeks ago. I got a chicken breast sandwich, a la carte, at $10.95, and a glass of water. My sandwich arrived, on a plain white plate. Period. I'm not looking for fancy dining, but a wedge of lemon, a carrot stick or 2, hell, even a simple sprig of parsley, would have softened the vast wasteland surrounding my lonely sandwich. I came here with a bunch of friends around midnight or a bit after and it was literally empty...weird for being a sports bar on the main street of downtown Riverside, especially since the bar we went to before that was in the basement of a antique shop was more poppin'. I didn't like my experience here. Drinks were decent and they have TVs and pool tables, but I just didn't like vibe or the attitude of the bartenders. I know you're probably bored by yourselves behind the bar and you're literally just sitting there so shouldn't you be a little excited that 10 college kids (we were all tipsy and drinking, but not belligerent and obnoxious) coming in giving you some work to do AND some tips? On weekends they charge a cover fee since they have live entertainment, I noticed an older, much older crowd comes in but hey everyones having fun, dancing & singing along. The one bartender with short spikey blond hair rocks! So awesome, funny, and helpful. Drinks are priced decently and theres a patio in front to smoke. This is more of a get down and boogie bar rather than the hipster, hip hop, or rocker bars downtown. I will say the only downside is a lot of bums bug you for cigarettes since your out front and the wall barrier isn't very tall but other than that its cool. I've also come down for football and food during the day. Foods decent, I ordered nachos while my friend had a sandwich special, they have lots of tv's for all sports. I went to this bar with a friend on a Friday night, and noticed an older crowd (mid thirties to early forties). Ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem, but I felt extremely uncomfortable being checked out by older women. My friend also felt uneasy because older men were making comments about her. The bar is physically huge, and it's probably one of the biggest bars in Riverside I've been to. Seems like a kind of down to earth bar. First impression is it is loud. When they have bands, expect to have little to no ability to have a conversation without use of a megaphone (and having your eardrums raped from severity of the noise). Lake Alice is what it is...a dive bar. Not meaning that is a bad way at all! I've gone with friends to listen to music, have some drinks and play pool. If you are expecting some fabulous "mixologists" to wow you with some creative drinks...nope...aint happening. But if you want a beer, some shots and your basic cocktails, you cant go wrong. One of the few places left that has a good size, decent service, and still hosts awesome cover bands with a reasonable cover charge. When they have DJ's they seem to play music not on par with the audience, much more of a classic rock crowd here. The food is pretty decent for bar food, and they offer a very broad selection too, so if you have an annoying picky friend that will only eat 1 thing, chances are it's offered here. The buffalo chicken salad and fish n chips are pretty good. The beer selection is good but not spectacular. A good balance of craft and regular beer, again, something for everyone. Plenty of TV's too for gameday. For being an over-sized dive bar (and actually not that dive bar-ish), this place is a pretty cool local spot. read more

Decent staff, prices are high but people pay them (go figure) A decent place to take a date if she's not really into the bar scene because chances are, she'll enjoy herself. Dumpy, divey, and huge with really high ceilings. I like it because it's so big that you can always find a place to grab a table, belly up to the bar, and even grab a pool table on the upstairs deck. Had a fun time listening to some excellent Karaoke singers this Thursday night. It was pretty full and mostly people having a fun time. Great place for large group parties since it's so big. The best night of the week is the karaoke of course, but I'm partial to that. Thursdays is when that happens and because of the size, the music can be turned up and the sound is pretty awesome. The staff are nice and cute. The food is better than it used to be since the cooks seem to be learning a little more on timing and such. Try the Hef! It's the best beer around and they have it on tap. Yum. read more

Place is pretty big, nice big TVs all around for sports watching. We stumbled upon this place, from the packed streets of the Mission Inn. Good choice of eats and drink. We shRed a sampler appetizer platter,and was plenty for 4 adults. We ordered the philly steak sliders, yummm! Very soft bun,with just enough bell peppers and mushroom all held together by melted cheese. Fries were offered in curly or steak fries, plus a salad. Food was very good. Drinks were as expected,cape code well made,not water down. Best thing, was customer service and fast delivery. Have to say waitress was super friendly, and had offered great appetizer suggestion. I was blown away by the size of the inside. When you first walk up,its located inside a brick older looking building. So almost looks like you will be enter a dark, smoke filled bar. Full disclosure: I know the owners here through my co-workers. And they're nice people. So if I didn't like the place I would have refrained from posting a review, but I like it, so moot point. Lake Alice is a laid back bar with pretty good food. I've only been for lunch time, and it's nice to be able to watch some World Cup while eating a filling lunch at a good price. The place is cavernous - there's games along the back, a change machine (I should remember this on laundry days!) and tables that seat 3-4 somewhat comfortably. The decor is limited to beer signs, but , hey, it's a bar. The menu is about eight pages long and has your standard pub grub plus forays into italian and mexican food. I continuously order the veggie sliders, which are basically bruschetta + feta on hawaiian rolls. They come with fries but for fifty cents more you can get their signature hot chips, which are fried-to-order potato chips. These are sometimes a tad undercooked but are usually hot and crispy. And it's about $7.50 for the whole thing. The soft drinks here have unlimited refills, so we tend to get them served in these enormous styrofoam cups. Probably 44 ounces. I guess it keeps the servers from having to refill a lot or people asking for a to-go cup. Service is fine and pretty friendly. Considering that there aren't too many lunch spots in downtown Riverside, this is a great place to go for good eats on the cheap. Especially during the world cup. read more

This bar has the rudest staff, the most expensive drinks in town, and should be shut down by the Riverside Health Department. I used to go there regularly and they were always overstaffed, arrogant, and treat the customers poorly. There are always tons of nasty dishes piled to the ceiling, cockroaches, and dirty glasses. They look at you funny if you request a coaster. After going here somewhat regularly. I was 86d over a 1 coors light in a bottle that i was overcharged for. After all the money and good tips ive left i thought they would value me as a customer with a little more common decency. Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else in Riverside. This place is a joke!!!! Alittle pricey but Overall we had a good experience! We went there to celebrate my friends birthday. We had never been there before so I was excited about going.The waitress that we had was amazing and really helpful. The food was okay, the beers were good, & the band was great, but honestly I was surprised when we got the bill because it was waaaaay more than we thought it would be. Every couple payed for their own stuff but it really seemed like we all over payed for beer and wings. I'm super disappointed and I definitely won't be going back again. read more
