Had our first experience here delivered by Grubhub to work. The Bun was great nice well toasted to soak up flavor. The burgers were juicy and well cooked. The burger sauce is what really made it. The house made ketchup used on fries and the burger sauce reminded me a lot of Food Dance. Truffle Fries were plentiful and fresh cut. Belgium Pup Style. We ate at Lake Burger for the first time tonight. They opened yesterday, so we weren't sure what to expect. It's a cute place with a simple menu that features lots of local ingredients. My husband enjoyed his bacon cheeseburger (juicy!) and I am a fan of the truffle fries. I also like that I can get a grilled cheese. Honestly, this restaurant is the only reason I got this app. First review, and it's because I'm in love. This place is BRAND NEW, uses a TON of locally sourced product (buns from the bakery next door, ice cream from down the road, the list goes on), and it's probably the best burger I've ever had. Sure, they may be a little bit pricier with add one (again, they're new), so maybe use as a quick lunch date idea (us), or it may be a treat to yourself after a hard day's work. I ordered two burgers with fries for each. After waiting 30 minutes, standing by the counter because there was no room or places to sit, we had enough. Ordered carry out for three people. Standard fries were good, not great. Parmesan truffle fries were great, and the only reason I give this place 2 stars. All three burgers that we ordered (two singles and one double) were extremely overcooked. Might have been one of the driest burger patties I've ever eaten. It's not like it was all that cheap either. We heard about them online and read some great reviews. Normally we wouldn't drive across town to get a takeout burger. But the reviews made them sound very special. Unfortunately that was not the case. A Cheese burger fries and a 12oz can of Coke for $14 should be special. I ordered no onions but there were plenty on the burger. The tomato I ordered ended up being one slice and the small but end of a tomato and it was small. Now the french fires were special...grease balls. I've not had many orders of french fries where I threw more than half of them in the trash, but I did with these. Funny part is the ToGo bag was stapled shut. Couldn't look inside even if I wanted to. All in all with my wifes Chicken sandwich...it was a wasted trip. Sorry guys but that how we see it $26+ and they wanted a tip...really! read more

An appealing concept - locally-sourced food - poorly executed. Our first trip there. Somewhat busy with three or four orders at once. Two cooks in back, one newbie cashier out front. We ordered one reg Lake burger, one Lake burger with custom condiments, two orders of fries, two shakes, and one vegan burger to take to our vegetarian friend. The Gazette article that alerted us to the business had mentioned the "impossible" burger but we did not find that on the menu. (Proprietary trademark perhaps? Anyway, no mention of its ingredients.) Then we waited a good 15 minutes for the food to come up. There are no tables, just wood planks along two walls and plastic stools. The cooks seemed scrambled, stepping on each other's toes. Fries came up first, slapped onto a cold metal shelf with no heat lamp, and just sat there, congealing. The cashier didn't have a table or workspace of any kind and was trying to balance take out bags next to her register. The milkshakes came up next. Delicious - tasted as good as shakes I remember from the 1960s. The sandwich clamshells next, and finally after about 20 minutes we were given our bag and headed out. My special order condiments didn't make it - I got just a plain burger on a plain bun. The vegan burger was actually meat, just a regular Lake burger. The next order likely got our vegan one - sorry whoever you are. The upshot: meat may be locally sourced but tasted as flat and boring as any bar food. Not quite cooked to well-done, which could be an issue for some. If you want a real, old-fashioned, hand-pressed burger, it's worth a trip to Laura's Little Burger Joint on 51 heading into Dowagiac. Plus all local buns come from local bakeries. Completed food items were not stored under a heat lamp to help preserve freshness and heat; no racks to stand them in, so they cooled even faster. Cooks were not teaming or talking to each other, and it seemed they were both doing all jobs. No one took a second to code the clamshells (e.g. V for vegan, maybe numbers 1 to 5 for the burger styles, codes for special condiments etc.) to make it easier for the cashier to assemble the bags. Timing was terrible - the shakes should come up first and the fries last. So I am underwhelmed. I plan to go to Five Guys for my next burger and shake fix. Same food but snappier production and timing. Maybe Lake Burger will be able to get their act together soon - their menu is fine, but they need an investment in equipment and operations training to be successful. Also wish they had opted for recyclable packaging. read more

Went into the place by accident but boy am I glad I did. The burgers here are delicious to say the least. I have tried their spicy chicken burger and am never getting that anywhere else in kzoo. To add to that a lot their products are homemade and locally which definitely adds value and prices are very reasonable. We went there excited but experienced significant disappointment. So much so that I am actually writing my first review ever because of it. We'll start with the Frys - Soggy, limp, and so disappointing. Not even soggy because they sat there waiting for us, I mean soggy like they were never even crispy to begin with. The seasoning on the Truffle Fry was good but the Crab Fry left us speechless. They literally sprinkle Old Bay fish seasoning on it and call it "Crab" Frys. Weird, random, and not appetizing. The Burgers - Supposed to be the heart and soul of this restaurant with its "farm to table" vibe... Dry Overcooked BURNT Yes I said it- The burger bun and the "thick cut" bacon was burnt. Its one thing to accidentally over cook a burger, but the second you give someone a BURNT bun you are asking for a disappointed customer. We were hoping for the best but wow, what a crappy $30 dinner. Will not be returning. read more

6-20-19 Ordered 3 Bacon Cheeseburgers, 3 Chicken Sandwiches, and 6 orders of fries. They had my order ready in 5-7 minutes right at lunch time (12:45pm). The chicken sandwich I had was delicious. Fried in wonderfully crispy batter with fresh lettuce, and wonderful bun. The fries were excellent also with sea salt and parsley. Everyone else had great things to say about lunch! read more

It is pricier than the typical burger joint however TA absolutely worth it. For one their meat is local and fresh. Eating local helps lower your carbon footprint and is helpful to the environment. So every time I eat a burger here I feel like I'm bettering the environment not going to somewhere like Burger King instead. That might be dramatic and a Gen Z thing to say but I genuinely love eating here for that reason. You can tell their meat is fresh, plus it tastes amazing. First time. All local food fixed fresh. Yes it takes a bit to prepare your food but then your not at McDonalds, Burger King... If your expecting a set down restaurant you'll be disappointed. It's more like an old fashioned diner with seating for 10. Takeout is a better choice. If you choose to eat there I loved the idea of hanging newspapers at seating intervals. We have enjoyed Lake Burger several times. We love the fries. I am so disappointed with our experience today as they shorted us a sandwich. We live 1/2 hour away so it was not feasible to drive back. We tried Lake Burger for the first time today for lunch. We both had the lake burger: it was prepared perfectly and it was delicious. The special sauce is a tasty touch and the bun was nicely toasted. The French Fries were hot and crispy. The person who took our order was knowledgeable and the person facilitating the order was helpful as well. These negative reviews are ridiculous. The food is great, the woman that works the counter is super nice, and if you're mad because there isn't seating then go eat somewhere else. I've been to Lake Burger twice and loved my food both times. The first time I ordered the special of the day - the fish basket. The breading was the best made with Panko bread crumbs - very crunchy with a nice tang from the tarter sauce and the fish was tender. I had truffle fries - so good and crispy with the parm, parsley and truffle oil, absolutely delicious! The second time I ordered the special bbq, bacon burger. The burger was really good quality meat and I loved the homemade bbq sauce. I split this with my husband and had half of his fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was really good. It was cooked well and the breading was super crunchy. If I lived nearby, I'd go there all the time! Loved it! read more
