I usually don't write reviews specially negative ones…read more Review for Dr. Vaughan office Great surgeon, but front office chaos and dishonest price hike are a major safety concern Dr. Vaughan himself was a great doctor, and the surgery went very well for my daughter. However, the front office and billing departments are an absolute nightmare, and I cannot recommend this practice because of them. The front office provided zero details before or after the surgery. Incredibly, they weren't even aware of what medication my daughter was taking, which is a major safety risk. Furthermore, they didn't have me sign most of the paperwork until they were literally wheeling my daughter into the surgery room. They made me stand right in front of a screen to read and sign pages and pages of documents at the very last minute. When I told the staff this shouldn't be happening and should have been handled in advance, it didn't change anything. To make matters worse, the quote they gave me back in February was completely dishonest. I was quoted $300 out of pocket, but they later changed it to $400. Every single time I requested an explanation, the stories kept changing. I dealt with two people, Kim and Clarissa, and the story changed four different times between them. Clarissa first claimed the $300 was "per tooth," which made no sense because I specifically asked for the total cost. Then later day Kim claimed the price had always been $400 for DRF, only to later into 1 1/2 later I requested to look into it and she change her story again and say the price just went up. So which was it? To top it off, Kim sent me an email two weeks after the surgery explicitly stating they were not going to honor the first quoted offer. For me, it is the principle of honesty and integrity that matters, but those qualities are completely missing from this office. I did aware that why I asked for what will be my total cost out of my pocket. If you decide to come here just make sure you have it written down prior and on the day off. $100 extra cost is no big deal. Just be aware. I told them while I was signing, that hope I didn't sign my life away since I was not clear minded after my daughter is wheeling in the surgery and here I have to standing here reading pages and pages for your paperworks, which you shouldn't have given to me the mins during my daughter in the surgery room. Regardless I like Dr. Vaughan if wasn't because if this changing billing stories. Will I be referring family or friends for wisdom teeth done? Not so sure due to the front staffs. The surgery went well and so I am happy for my daughter. Still not fully 2 weeks into her recovery yet. Cross fingers that she doesn't have to return for anything else. Thx you Dr. Vaughan! Front desk team need more guidance in my opinion!

Dr. Um and Viola are the absolute BEST!!!! Their kindness and professionalism are beyond reproach! I was in an awful predicament with unrelenting pain during the late afternoon of Jan. 15th when the crowns of two giant upper molars cracked. My dentist called Dr. Um's office with a referral. They were able to fit me in at the last minute. The traffic was horrific in the pouring rain. It did not help that I got lost on the way over. Both Dr. Um and Viola helped me to navigate over to their office on the phone. When I finally reached the office, it was close to 7:00pm (way past closing time), as they patiently waited for my arrival. Dr. Um immediately proceeded to extract the decayed two molars. The whole procedure was done quickly and briskly with gentle but firm and confident hand without absolutely NO PAIN!!!! Dr. Um also had a family emergency at the hospital at the same time. Talk about esprit de corps!!! Such care and empathy provided from a doctor to patient is almost unheard of!!! Viola thoroughly reviewed the post-operative instructions with me before being discharged close to 8:00pm that evening. Upon arriving home, the bleeding had already stopped. Very unusual for such a major dental surgery. So far, I have experienced absolutely NO PAIN after the surgery with rapid healing. KUDOS to both of you Dr. Um and Viola! Do yourselves a favor and just make an appointment with Dr. Um. I'll tell you why... After receiving a referral from my dentist, I was able the schedule a consult with Dr. Um the following day. I was in so much pain due to an impacted wisdom tooth and she could tell by the agonizing look on my face that I needed it out ASAP! Dr. Um, without hesitation, extracted my wisdom tooth the same day and relieved me of my misery. The local anesthetic was relatively painless as she talked me right through it. The actual extraction took no more than 5 minutes. I walked out of there feeling great. I was given a very detailed take-home care kit. Viola was professional and sweet which made my visit very comfortable as I was given step by step instruction of the extraction process, what I can and cannot eat, and care instructions for the extraction site (she knew her stuff). Dr. Um, Viola, and their assistant, forgive me as I cannot recall her name, were just wonderful people. Sorry for the long review peeps, but I can't tell you enough how easy this was for me and how well you will be taken care of if you choose to make an appointment. I was in so much tooth pain last week. I was swollen and i needed help quickly. It was horrible and it turns out my wisdom teeth were having issues. Dr. Um saw me as an emergency. She explained to me with why I was having pain. My gum grew over the wisdom tooth. She took a picture with a camera and showed me how red and swollen the area was. The office has a 3D imaging machine to check where my nerve was. Wiola was amazing. She calmed me down. I am a big baby when it comes for any type of dental work. Both dr. Um and wiola talked me through the procedure. I got through it and feel so much better. I was always told by my dentist to take them out since it can cause issues. I didn't realize that this could happen out of nowhere and it was no joke. I was so happy with this office. They called me after surgery and sent in the prescription electronically to make things easier for me. The office is super clean. I highly recommend lake forest Oral surgery!! read more

I found Dr. Um through yelp because I needed to take out my wisdom teeth. I am SO glad that I ended up making an appointment and ended up taking out my wisdom teeth. The whole process was very easy and smooth. Dr. Um was so informative about the procedure and what to expect. I was a bit nervous because my friends who took out their wisdom teeth had traumatizing experience, but I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Um! She is so gentle and she is seriously the best! Dr. Um is the best!!!!! I had such an amazing experience here. I had to have a wisdom tooth removed due to infection. She was able to see me right away which I appreciated, I was in a lot of pain. Any kind of surgery is a scary experience, but with Dr. Um, it was as quick and painless as possible, even with 3 out of wisdom teeth pulled! She was also great about follow-up post surgery, calling to making sure meds were being taken, if there were any questions and monitoring comfort level. At this point, I will be consulting my insurance what steps to take next in order to be reimbursed. A healthcare practice should have systems in place to handle patient refunds. "We don't have checks" is not an excuse I would expect from a professional office handling thousands of dollars in patient and insurance payments. The lack of organization, accountability, and urgency has left me with no confidence in their business practices.

They worked aggressively with my insurance company to help me achieve minimum out-of-pocket payout, and worked with me on the rest of the pricing and scheduling details. They worked with me tirelessly ahead of my oral surgery and are always EXTREMELY prompt in responding to post-surgery questions, even accomodating a last minute follow-up schedule change. I was referred by Panrod Dental because they believed I had periodontal disease in October 2025…read more However, SoCal Perio Implants isn't very transparent about how they charge new patients, or everyone there was just clueless? During my first visit for consultation, their team told me they'd only charge $99 of CT scan for this visit since I was referred by Panrod. I agreed, and after they checked my CT scan, Dr. Giuseppe Carvelli essentially told me it's better to redo my old implant in order to fix the problem; however, their billing team couldn't give me a quote before I walked out from their office that day. Anyways, I got their email next day. SoCal Perio quoted me $8000+ to redo my implant. I then called them back to ask for detailed explanations simply because the email I received did not seem very organized. They wanted me to revisit the office to discuss further. Meanwhile I decided to check with a different dental office for a second opinion, and WOW, the new dentist told me my old implant was just fine. Turned out there's no gum disease at all and I do not need to replace my old implant. All I needed was a new crown. They quoted me right away. It costs $1000 top. I still visited SoCal Perio the for second time and hoped to discuss with Dr. Giuseppe Carvelli. I did not get to see him, so I talked to his assistant to find out if there's a possibility of a different treatment plan? The assistant immediately asked me if it's about money? He said someone from their billing team can help me - maybe offering me a generous discount or something if I can't afford it. I said I'd still like to discuss with a dentist instead of a billing team member. Unfortunately none of the dentists there was available to talk to me, so I left and went with a different dental office to fix my tooth and it cost $900 to get a new crown. Crisis solved. Fast forward 6 months later, I got an email from Socal Perio Implants saying I owe them $304 - it did not have a breakdown or any details. It said "carry-over balance" instead. For some reasons their emails are always very confusing and unclear. I called them to find out more, and Jenny from their front desk said she'd email me a copy of the detailed receipt right away. Even so, I got a blank email with only her business card attached. I had to call again for the file. And that one visit was $99 for the CT scan + $205 limited oral evaluation. No one from SoCal Perio office ever talked about the $205 evaluation fee. I wish they could be more honest about it beforehand. Anyways, basically they charge $300 for a simple consultation. You get to talk to the dentist for 10 mins and they try real hard to sell treatments that you don't necessarily need. It's really sad to find out this is how they run their business. Think twice before you visit SoCal Perio Implants.
