My husband and I went there for dinner . We sat on the outside terrace and there was live music. Alexa was our waitress and we had excellent and friendly service. We ordered the cheesesteak eggrolls, which were great and seem to be homemade. My husband had a burger, which was very good and I had the fillet mignon special of the night with crab meat on top Which was one of the best fillets I've ever had. We were given a surprise complementary slice of cheesecake with raspberry sauce since it was anniversary. This place is a hidden gem, and we will definitely be back! read more

The very nice people at the door said our reservation was for six, which had been made by our friends. We were the first to enter the large dining room, which has a nice view of Lake Iona. The table they sent us to was in the corner, far from the windows overlooking the lake. I asked one of the staff if our table could be switched across the room, so we'd have a view of the lake. He came back and and said no. Politely. I said to my wife, "Watch. Those tables [for four] on the windows, no one will sit in them all night. All they have to do is move a double to make it for six." So we sat down to wait, at our table in Siberia, with the plastic flowers in the plastic vase, for our friends. They arrived and I told them that we tried to get to a lakeside table but were rebuffed. Our pals told us that Lake House informed them that we had 90 minutes to eat and get out. I last heard that dictate during covid, in 2020. Our food was okay, the appetizers --- crispy onions, fried mozzarella and "wrinkled green beans" --- being the stars. The caesar salads had mostly white chopped lettuce and some cheese shavings that were imitation Parmigiano. The dressings were good. Our entrees were fair. My bone-in ribeye was more like a pork chop; I expected something thicker. It came with "crispy smashed potatoes; they were the best part. My companions had some sort of chicken dish with a side of spaghetti, the texture of which displeased them. Another had a flounder special that she enjoyed, and the other had "Bang-Bang Shrimp Tacos" that were good. One of my friends thought the wine pours were stingy. I thought they were typical in volume and had no complaint about that. One drink that WAS stingy was my martini: more water than gin and poured into a TINY glass with no olive, onion or twist (The server never asked which I wanted.). The Blood Orange Cosmo's were pleasing to my companions. Desserts, particularly a chocolate cake-type, were good. Coffee was...okay. Afterwards, we went down to the bar and sat at tables by the lakefront plastic sheeting windows. At last! We were able to sit with a lakefront view! They had very nice --- and needed --- gas-fired fire pits on this cold night. I know it's very hard to find staff for nearly any restaurant, but waitron service to these lakefront bar tables would have been a nice touch; we had to fetch our drinks from the bar. Up and down the steps. We did not leave ourselves a tip for the effort. Service overall was very good and friendly. Restrooms and the overall restaurant and bar area were very clean. Oh, and no one ever did sit by the lakeside window tables (There were two of them that were empty the whole time we were dining.). We won't be back. read more

It's pretty eating on a lake but that's about the only thing this place has going for itself. I took my husband for his birthday with our 3 and 4 year old. We were seated right away but no one acknowledged us for 30 minutes. Finally my husband got up to make sure we weren't invisible and it appears the waitress was never told she had our table. Our waitress was very apologetic and the rest of the evening was fine with her service. They just seem to have communication issues. My husband did not enjoy his meal. He had the filet Marsala and he won't even touch his leftovers. They were over cooked and chewy. No one asked how he wanted his filet cooked which was odd. Definitely overpriced. This was my 2nd time here with my boyfriend. We have been so excited to try outdoor dining as we ate inside before. The view was so pretty-overlooking a nice lake. Our server was Brad- he was really nice. We got drinks to start- I got a long island, and my boyfriend got a down east cider. Both were really tasty. I ordered the lake house burger, and my boyfriend got the chicken BLT. We were both really satisfied with our meals. Only downside is live music is only indoors. I was treated to a leisurely rainy day linner Sunday 10.10.2021. We sat at a high top in the bar overlooking the lake. Tony D was our server and provided exemplary service. We had glasses of the Ryan Patrick Washington State Riesling and Annabella Sonoma Cabernet. The pours are generous. We also had mozzarella triangles, the crab stuffed shrimp with risotto, and blackened tuna with parmesan green beans. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We also ordered a chocolate peanut butter bomb to share and we took a chocolate marshmallow bomb home. This was the best meal I have had here in years. This place is so hit or miss. If you go to the bar and have drinks and bites you're fine. The drinks are strong and good. The food is just okay. The restaurant is where this place has issues. First off it's dark and cold, zero ambience and the layout is just awkward. It's like that dark room is an afterthought. The service is not great, long waits for drinks and orders. They could be short staffed. As for the front of house. The greater (the older larger man) can be either passive, down right rude, or happy go lucky. Never sure who you're going to get here. As the "face" of the establishment he is quite off-putting and when you get the rude version it makes you not want to come back. So we won't. Not worth and it's a shame as the location is lovey. Do better with your customer service, improve your food. That's just my feedback. Drinks are good though!!! read more

Ive been coming here for years and I love it! Everything i've gotten here has been great. Consistently i've always gotten the curly chicken w/ thai chili sauce and it is my favorite! This was our first outing since Covid -19. They offer outside dining and take out at this time. Like most places, you check in and wait outside until being seated. The entire process was quick and easy. Once seated we were greeted by our server Jason. Our server was very Professional and quick.. Our meal was delicious and served hot. I've had this restaurant on my bookmark list for years after reading an article about its haunted history. I finally found myself down this way in Jersey, and had to check it out. Unfortunately, it was not a very nice day so we had to eat inside. The outside area of this restaurant looked absolutely gorgeous with beautiful views. We only stopped in for apps, but what we had was great. I highly recommend the seafood bisque, some of the best I've ever had. We constantly have good service here and my parents come almost every week. Today we had perfect weather and sat outside by the lake. They were busy, busy, for all the right reasons. Update: Went back with some friends, the views were again great. The fire pit tables were going and we were a little jealous from the inside dining we had over looking outside seating(we chose to sit inside). I had Seafood Mac and Cheese, my boyfriend had the Tuna and we split the filet tip app. My boyfriend asked for the tuna rare and we thought it was over cooked a bit but other than that all was very good and our server Dallas was prefect as well. read more

My first time to the Lake House on a spring late afternoon. Beautiful weather and view of the lake, so most guests were on the spacious 2-tiered porch-patio. Positives: + Friendly staff + Great location + Excellent craft beer on tap + Thai shrimp appetizer was good but was more sweet than spicy Negatives: - Mixed drink, my friend had a poor mojito - NY Strip was medium well instead of medium rare, and charred black on one side. - Rosemary potatoes were dry Might go back to meet friends for a beer and appetizer. We were married at the Lake House on Oct 28th, and it was an A1 event, the owners and employees at the Lake House provided it! The proprietors of the establishment are outstanding and were so gracious in helping us in anyway they can! Dawn the event planner couldn't do enough for us, she will be a life long friend, she handled the event with a professional air and yet so gracious! Thank you Dawn! Our friends, Lake House employees, Michael, Lance, Randi, Danielle Stacey, Liz and Yamil ( I hope I didn't forget anyone) are wonderful, they are helpful and always smiling and very respectful to us! They always have time for us. The food is outstanding, my guests raved about the food! Everything was cooked to perfection! Cheers to the cook! I would not hesitate to have an event there or I would encourage anyone thinking about planning one to have it at the Lake House. Of course the atmosphere is wonderful, the lake is beautiful, sitting at the outside bar is calming and there is always something to watch on the water. I want here for Valentine's Day weekend with my girlfriend. Overall, the food and drinks were really good, but I was not impressed with the service. Our server was Julianna. She was very nice throughout the whole night, but when we got the check at the end, we were both confused. My girlfriend ordered the Crab Cake entree and I ordered the Filet Mignon entree. An entree here comes with the choice of a Caesar Salad or a soup. We never were told if there was a specific soup the entree included, so we both ordered the Seafood Bisque. However, we were both charged an additional $6 each for this soup because apparently, the entrees only came with a Creamy Tomato Soup, which we were not aware of. If we would have known that, we would have ordered that soup in the first place. I asked the server why we were charged a total of an extra $12 for our soups, and she replied saying she charged us separately for the soups. I was really confused by this because I heard the server behind us towards the very end of our meal, after I already questioned my server, ask his table if they want a Caesar Salad or the Creamy Tomato Soup with their entrees. We were never asked that. The food was really good, along with our Old Fashioned and Whiskey and Ginger that we ordered, but the service could have been a lot better. Technically, we are still owed a Caesar Salad or a Creamy Tomato Soup since we never received it with our entree, but I chose not to bring that up at the end. I will go back in the future, but it would be nice if the workers could properly communicate what's included in an entree without seeing a much higher bill than anticipated at the end of the night. read more

I've been here a few times now and enjoyed it each time. All the apps we tried were delicious (mozz triangles, nachos, and curly chicken). For an entree, I've had the Crab Penne w/ Vodka and the Stuffed Chicken Breast and I loved both. The view from the back deck and patio are beautiful and service is always good. The only thing that I find annoying is they currently have 1.5 hour max on tables. This isn't quite enough time. By the time you decide on drinks, then apps, then food, and it all comes out, it's kind of a rush, especially with a group. I think this is a Covid thing, but I've been to plenty of other restaurants during Covid and most are not imposing timed seating. Would definitely recommend removing this limit. If I had a group, I would choose a different restaurant based on this alone. Otherwise, I love this place and would definitely recommend it! read more

Food and politics make strange bedfellows. Given the current state of dining out, the struggles many establishments have experienced due to the pandemic, and the related difficulties small businesses face as the country goes back to work, I try to give any restaurant I visit a large edge simply for being open. This simple fact, plus the absolutely incredible ambiance offered by the Lake House's location, made the experience. The food, however, could use a bit of a boost. However, let's get to cut to the chase, FFS. Flair: While I am partial to Gloucester County, New Jersey as a resident of the past 20 years, I also realize that it's not everyone's cup of tea. Traffic, decreased amounts of open space, the occasional middle finger whilst traveling on any of the many highways in the area...they all add to the mystique. However, it's hard to find a better place for a meal anywhere...and I do mean anywhere...in the area. The Lake House absolutely capitalized on their piece of real estate. From the fountain visible from their deck dining area to the lights which accentuate the exterior to the comfortable vibe which permeates the building, the Lake House hits the country feel pretty well. You will absolutely feel right at home sipping a beer and watching the ducks wade on Iona Lake. If you're lucky enough to get a table outside by the water, enjoy that sunset. Food: Unfortunately, for me...this was the area that went slightly off the rails. I'll start with the okay, head to the not-so-okay, and finish with good. The youngest of us ordered the French dip sandwich. She declared it a winner, stating the roast beef was juicy, tender, and delicious. The roll was in good shape, holding up well to the au jus dunk. Her fries were pretty simple, it's hard to mess up seasoned waffle fries. My plate was not as terrific. The salmon was cooked well, it wasn't dry or over cooked or anything like that. It was the sauce and rice that turned me away. I'm not quite sure I'd go with such a syrupy, sugary honey mustard dressing for this particular dish. All semblance of salmon flavor was completely overpowered by the mouth punch from the sauce. The rice accompaniment would have been better left on the steam table. I've had better Minute rice. The sad part of the dish was that it was close to right there. The Panko was a good call. The fish was cooked well. The sauce would have been better served with a harder bite from a Dijon or stone ground mustard with considerably less honey. Fresh veggies or some spinach with garlic and oil, even an escarole/bean side would have knocked it out. The bacon wrapped parm was pretty okay. The sauce appeared and tasted not homemade. No worries, didn't expect it to be. The bacon was an unnecessary step. On its own, the chicken parm was very good. Actually, it was unexpectedly good. However, the stringy, chewy texture of the bacon deflated that dish like a nail in a tire. Do yourself a favor, lose the swine. It was much better without. Service: our server was training a new server, so that was nice to see. Both ladies did a really nice job stopping in, chatting, refilling drinks, checking on our meals, and engaging in nice conversation. The hostess was terrific and got us seated right away. Overall, a pleasant experience. The Lake House isn't a dud by any stretch. In fact, with a few small tweaks, it has the potential to really be an All Star. However, the blemishes keep it playing in the minors. I would absolutely go back, and I look forward to seeing any changes they may make to their menu. read more

So we came here for my mother in laws bday dinner just myself, my wife and her mother. We've been here before and have had spotty success here with meals but my mother in law has never been so we decided to stop in. Of course all COVID requirements were In place and we were able to get a table next to the window by the lake. The service was good as far as our waitress and receiving drinks on time. My wife's food was good and my mother in laws was to her liking however, when it came to me there were some major issues. I ordered an medium rare steak and when the first one came out it was way over cooked, I mean like 4 minutes cooked to long. So I told the waitress and she of course apologized and took it back to have another one prepared for me and when the second one was delivered it was raw, completely cold raw meat. Chef Ramsay would have thrown the thing back in the pasture and let it get back to its normal life raw. Of course I asked for the manager at this point and she also apologized and had another cooked for me and the other steak was not on the money but at least eatable. By this time of course everyone else was done eating and I was left to feel rushed by the rest of my party and had been waiting well over an hour to receive my food. The baked potato was also raw and not throughly cooked, it was still very firm in the middle and had the raw potato taste. This place continues to be all over the place, sometimes it's really good and I have a great experience and other times I wish I had just gone to Franklinville Inn. read more

We arrived at 7pm on a Wednesday. Our group of three went inside and was told by the host that there was no tables available. They were all reserved and that we would have to try and find a seat at the bar. We saw over 11 tables inside the dining room that were open, outside on the deck there was at-least 7 tables open, and in the bar there were about 6 high tops not being used. (Mind you they close at 9pm) So our party of three sat at the bar, as instructed to do so, and waited over 15 minutes just to be acknowledged by the bartender (Jennifer). She was extremely distraught and the bar wasn't even full. She was extremely rude when taking our order and to her coworkers. We watched her scream at the bar-back for putting clean glasses on her station. It was an extremely unprofessional situation to be watching and listening to in-front of us. Then to top it off I specifically asked to see the bottle of wine I was drinking, and she never brought it out to show me the brand of the wine, even though she said she would. Our soup and salad was forgotten with our meals. We were told that they could be boxed up for us, when our entrees eventually came out without them. We were offered a slice of free dessert... for the miscommunication.. that was the only good thing that came out of the entire night. Lake House has a perfect location with beautiful view right on the water. It's also located in what has the appearance of being an older well maintained mansion of home with outside patio seating, two bars, an enclosed porch dining and indoor dining areas. The menu offerings are extensive, some creative signature drinks such as watermelon martinis along with a host uniquely creative menu offerings. Unfortunately I didn't find their signature or other drinks to be all that great. The watermelon martini tasted like nothing but an out of the bottle dash of watermelon flavored schnapps or liqueur with shot of vodka then worse, served without a decent chill and some of the other drinks I also found to be equally unimpressive. I started my meal off with a Caesar, which was OK and an appetizer of seared ahi tuna, also OK but with both the salad and the tuna tasting rather blah. I could also tell that the tuna had been previously prepared as it had that "it had been sitting around for while" taste and texture to it. For the main course I went for their special of the night being a filet mignon covered with a shrimp and seafood sauce. I had asked my waitress if I could have my meat prepared "Pittsburgh" and she advised that such was not any problem at all. However, when it arrived, she asked me if I would cut it open, which I did and it turned out that the inside was in fact not only well done, but very well done. I also noted that the outside wasn't charred, hence I know that whatever their cooking implement, it just didn't have the heat to cook Pittsburgh style. Without asking the waitress immediately offered to return it for another steak which, now knowing their kitchen problems I merely ordered rare. Both of my guests kept their steaks though neither of theirs were exactly prepared as to how I had heard them request that they be done. My take on my dining experience was that their culinary skills simply are not up to what they offer on their menu. Considering the prices I should probably rate the place as a Two Star but I'll give them the benefit of a doubt, however unwilling to go more than Three Stars, just saying that Lake House is OK. read more

The filet was excellent, the Parmesan green beans were a huge hit and the crab was plentiful and very tasty. Went here with 2 other couples, Food wasn't great but that isn't what this post is about. We get seated. Waiter takes our drink order. Brings back drinks. Only wants to take our appetizer order. Won't even take our soup or salad order. Eventually comes back and takes our full order. We get our food and we are about half thru dinner and the waiter comes over and says. Just want to let you know that you only have 20 mins left on your reservation. We were like huh. Yea you have to be done in 20 mins we have another reservation. Well maybe you shouldn't take soooooo long to take our order and bringing out our food. Then proceeds to bring our check. No offer of dessert or dessert to go. After we watch the dessert tray go by all night. Never in my life have I had someone kick you out mid meal. It would be one thing if we were done our meal and we're just sitting there talking and holding up a table. It's very dark in there and hard to see the menu. Right in the beginning one of the staff members came over and told me to turn off the light on my phone because i was blinding other customers the peson that complained was half way scross the room and my light was facing my menu if I wasn't with others I would of left at that point.
