These folks never fail in delivering great food and service. Last I was there I had the cream of beef and also the cream of asparagus... Excellence on a plate! Their steaks are amazing to the point you need no steak sauce. Their steaks steak sauce doesn't do it credit. I love that it's a historical place and you can see it through the building. Perfect for that romantic dinner with your significant other. The only downside I see, but not their fault, is that booking a reservation can be a bit of work. They book out quick and weeks out. Where to start? Small room with three tables where everyone's conversation is overheard. Bread, soups, crab cakes, salads delicious. Pacing started ok then went downhill with limited check backs and ended with no check backs for dessert or if check was desired. After 30 to 40 minutes had to track down waiter and told him no desserts were now wanted (We were going to order the bread pudding). He took a steak to box up and came back several times to attend to the other tables and no boxed up steak. Finally came back. Most disturbing was that two prime ribs were ordered rare and this was a 5:15 seating and came to the table full on medium. Cap completely grey and balance barely pink on both. How could they not serve rare this early in the evening? The waiter took them away and promised to bring back two rare entrees. We declined and ordered different entrees as our spouses ate their meals. Instead he brought the same ones back and said that's all they had. Literally a few minutes later I saw other rooms being served six or seven beautifully rare prime ribs. I asked how that could be and he said the chef wouldn't carve a roast for our order and we would have to finish the older roast regardless of rare roasts available in the kitchen. I have never seen such poor service and disregard for customers at a restaurant claiming to be of superior caliber. No offer to comp meals or even free dessert. I still tipped him well although I wonder if I should have. I haven't written a review in quite awhile but this was something I feel should be shared if you're considering this place. The Franklinville inn has been a staple in this area for as long as I can remember. This first time I came here was in the late 90's, and it was excellent then and continues the tradition of excellence to this day. I had made a reservation 4 weeks in advance. It was a Friday night in June and my lovely date and I were excited to come here. We were seated in an upstairs booth and it was lovely. We both started with a drink, she got the Key lime pie martini, and I had a Moscow mule. The key lime pie martini was amazing! We both ordered the Crab Bisque. It was a solid 10/10! The texture was almost like a queso, and it was super flavorful and had many chunks of back fin crabmeat. It was the best I had ever had. I used some of the crusty bread and butter they brought to the table to dip in the soup and it was truly amazing. I ordered the crab cakes and a side of creamed spinach, and she got the prime rib with a baked potato. The salads were crisp and fresh and the dressings were home made. I was able to taste the quality. Her prime rib was full of amazing flavors and came with piping hot Au jus and horseradish cream sauce. The baked potato was huge and it was piled high with sour cream and bacon bits. It was really good. My crab cakes were full of lump crab and came with a pepper cream sauce that was a touch sweet and really full of flavor. The spinach was creamy and delicious. We ordered desserts to go but they were not pictured or rated yet. This was the best meal we had in two years since we went to Latitudes in Key West. Boy am I mad at myself for not trying this sooner! The hubby and I trekked south for our anniversary dinner. As soon as we pulled into the packed parking lot on a random Tuesday night, we could tell that this place had to be something special. After reading multiple reviews here, I was prepped and ready to order. Caesar salad for the hubby and house salad for me. Really big salad portions for a pre-meal salad. Both delicious. We also shared the delicious French onion soup. And the bread...oh my! It looked unassuming enough, but one bite into it with a shmear of the tasty butter and I can't stop thinking about it. For entrees, I got the crab cakes, and they were just as amazing as other reviewers have said. Large solid pieces of sweet crab meat and a red pepper sauce that really complemented it. The hubby got chicken marsala. Not too salty, not too sweet, tender chicken. It hit all the bases. For sides, he ordered the creamed spinach which he enjoyed, and I ordered the stuffed potato- thumbs up. At this point, Brianna asked if she could use the crumb cleaner upper thingy. Again, do they think I'm a queen or something? For dessert, we shared the creme brulee. Brought out flambeed. Like, who does that anymore! I can't wait to eat my leftovers for lunch in two hours, but who's counting?! I haven't felt this kind of service and hospitality since Disneyworld. And even Disney is not this way anymore! I've been hearing nothing but good things about the Franklinville Inn for a couple of decades, but never found occasion to dine there. Tonight, we finally got a chance to enjoy the storied legend. The service was attentive and prompt (bordering, from the outset, on obsequious), and we had some pacing issues. But the food was excellent: I tried the crab cake appetizer, and it was everything that rabid fans have raved about: hunks of crab meat, lightly bound together, into a delectable whole. The red pepper sauce that accompanied the dish adds nothing, and is best passed over in favor of a squeeze of lemon. My wife had the bisque, which offered some crabmeat near the bottom of the bowl, but the soup itself was a bit sweet. Our Cesar salads came dressed with a tangy, loose dressing; the greens seemed wilted from perhaps too much time under the sauce. I enjoyed the 10 oz strip with stuffed shrimp (more delicious crab!), but as a specimen of red meat, my wife's ribeye was an exemplar: charred, salty, and huge. We split the crème brûlée, which was excellent, if a little chilled, and a hint of booze on top because that's how they serve it (alight). This time was not different for our party of three. Started off with some great drinks. Our server, Morgan, was FANTASTIC. Provided spot on recommendations and descriptions. For appetizers, tried the Teriyaki Char Tips (highly recommended) and Lump Crab a specialty that night on the menu. Entrees, Queen Sized Prime Rib, and two NY Strip Steaks both served with our requested Medium Rare temperature with the Baked Potato. Excellent tasting, cannot say enough. While one might complain about pricing, for the quality of the meal, service, and ambiance in my opinion well worth the price. read more

I've heard good things about Franklinville Inn for years and we decided to go for our anniversary. One of the better meals I've had in a long time. Ambience was great as it reminds you of a traditional steakhouse with an inviting bar and old decor with a lot of custom woodwork and fireplaces in each of the dining rooms. It is a large establishment but we didn't feel like it was super crowded as each room provided privacy with about 5-10 tables in each room. We had a wedge salad app which was outstanding. Then followed by a 12 oz NY strip and crabcake and my wife had the ribeye. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Their signature sauces for the steak and cake were a very good compliment. We had 4 sides: baked potato, Cole slaw, mushrooms which were in a brown sauce and creamed spinach. All great steakhouse staples and all delicious. Ended the meal with the apple pie and ice cream. Service was top notch and it's a bit pricey but for a steakhouse I believe it was in range with others and expectations. The only complaint I have was I thought my drink was a little pricey and a bit too small. But that didn't affect my rating. I'll definitely be back. We visited for a birthday dinner for a friend (12 guests). We had a small private room way upstairs which was nice, but we were a little but crammed in. My friend and I were sitting opposite each other and we were hanging off the end of the table. We could have used one more 4 top, but then we would have really filled out the room! The food was okay. Nothing bad but nothing particularly memorable. My shrimp and scallops dish was seasoned well. The warm fresh baked bread for the table was the highlight for me. They have a nice martini list, many of which are dessert-forward. The mint chocolate chip martini was a nice way to end the night. All in, it was $100 per person including gratuity. You couldn't wait at the bar you had to wait in their tiny, freezing front door area. We walked through the adorably quaint, quieter rooms which was what I was envisioning the place to be like, but we didn't get that experience at all because we were seated in the insanely loud bar area. Cocktails were mainly ice and the margarita was definitely made with a cheap syrup mix. I ordered the filet mignon because I heard their steak was so fantastic here. I asked for Medium, my photo was Medium to them. It was cold on the inside and RARE! Disgusting, I couldn't even chew it. We told our waiter about it and he said he would talk to somebody. He eventually returned and told us they can cook a new one, no thanks. I know it's not the waiters fault BUT to make it right the manager should've absolutely took a moment out of their busy night to come over and see how their cooks are not preparing the steaks properly and gave an apology, free dessert or maybe a refund for their blatantly obvious rare steak, but since none of that occurred I will never return or recommend Franklinville Inn to anybody. They always bring our warm crusty bread with butter that technically isn't anything unique but it's always so fresh and warm and perfect that it feels special. I highly recommend trying a bowl of their crab bisque. It's one of the best I ever had. Their house salads with your choice of dressing are always a conversation piece when bringing new guests. They're filled with lettuce, carrots, olives, snow peas, tomatoes, mushrooms, and cheese and are somehow flattened in a perfect circle the size of the plate and chilled. As far as entrees are concerned, I have never had a bad experience regardless of what I order but I tend to lean towards the crab cakes with red pepper cream sauce or a filet. I also love their stuffed potatoes, which are basically twice baked potatoes that are whipped and cheesy and perfect. While you'll probably be too full, their chocolate mousse pie is rich and dense and amazing. Service: We had Joseph and he was great. The kitchen was behind but that's no one's fault. It was a packed house as it should be on a Saturday night! However, our reservation was at 4:30 so someone didn't show up in the kitchen to be behind. Food: Here's where we fell short of 5 stars. We ordered the crab bisque which was very thick, and creamy but overly salty for my taste personally. Next for the apps we had the teriyaki filet tips where were by far the best thing that hit our table. Always a staple order here. For the entrees unfortunately they were out of the two apps that were al carte as well as the tiramisu. Which was unfortunate because they were all on our list to try. So after all the years of hype, we finally made it to Franklinville Inn. I love historic buildings and Inns, and was excited for this one. However all the antique charm is long gone, there is one old photo near the hostess but expect to find the dining room decor at your local Homegoods. So the reason behind the two stars stems from food, service and ambiance. Our server was cold and standoffish, they use a circle here, yellow on one side with red on the other, to stop your server. At a small intimate place like this, is this really needed? Regardless our server did not stop or ask how anything was throughout the meal. Two of us ordered the filet tips, which are not tips but rather a filet sliced very thin almost stir-fry style. The crabmeat and sauce were delicious, but did not pair well with the thin sliced meat this should have been tips, which I feel are small chunks. When I flagged the server (red circle) and inquired about this, she said this is how it is served. The stuffed potatoes (twice baked) were not piped back into the potato skin, but sloppily spooned in. There was no crisp top, and display was very poor. The desserts were a total fail, the rice pudding is sickening sweet, the cheesecake tasted boxed and the special bread pudding was over cooked and served with a sweet sauce pour over. Such a disappointment! If you haven't been, I'd skip the Franklinville Inn if you are a regular, I'd love to hear what I missed. read more

Chaos occurs- anyway we sat in the lounge area in a booth next to the bar- waited a good 10/15 for a server to come over, I get it, there were floods of guest to take care of all at 4:05...I'll leave the service at this, they were too busy and did their best but it was VERY slow service. Crab Bisque was a little sweet from all the sherry but still yummy. Crab cake was delicious! I wasn't a fan of the shrimp appetizer but my husband was- salad was fresh and dressing was on the side so you could control the amount you prefer. Also a nice touch is the warm bread they bring out to you. Everything was going deliciously until -the steak- my husband ordered the filet, he enjoyed it tremendously, I ordered the ribeye (medium) it was raw and like chewing leather. Our server never checked in on the entrees so I sat there with a raw chewy steak for a good half hour.
