Our first time at Lake St Cafe for breakfast was a good one. The food was fresh and hot, our server was great. We decided to come back 2 weeks later and didn't have a good experience. Waitress was kind enough but my husband had to ask for a second cup of coffee. Our breakfast came in about 7 minutes after we ordered, very strange. My husband had a skillet and I had the fresh berry pancakes. The skillet was barely lukewarm and didn't taste fresh. My pancakes were also only warm in the middle, stale on the outside and crumbly when I cut them. Barely any compote on the pancakes. The pancakes were clearly made ahead and just warmed up, yuck. My husband's toast was made from stale bread also. We wanted to like this place but won't be going back after this experience. read more

I wanted to give a shout out to Lake Street Cafe (501 E Lake St) that recently opened in Addison (Used to be Sunmist restaurant.). We went for breakfast yesterday and it is BEAUTIFUL inside! The staff were friendly, the service was outstanding and the food was fantastic! Their menu has some great, unique twists on typical breakfast foods and the portions were very generous. Hubby had a southern breakfast with biscuits and gravy, potatoes (that he said were awesome). I had a veggie omelet with fruit and the fruit (this may sound silly) was great! Typically fruit is mushy cantelope, a few grapes and some honeydew. This was FULL of fresh berries and so delicious. Omelet was packed with nice veggies. The whole grain toast was GIANT and wonderful as well. Seriously - I sure hope this place makes it because it's way better than most of the breakfast options in this area. read more

Traveled up to eat here after I saw a cute video advertising the place. Arrived at 10:35 and the place was packed. We were quoted a 45 min wait. After being put on the waiting list, it only took 20 mins before we got our table. Woohoo! Esthetically, it was a pretty and well put together place. Get to our table the the waitress was nice and attentive. Coffee was ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR. Mimosa was very good! We waited quite a bit for her to get our entree order in and also quite a bit before we received them. All the food was good besides the eggs. Those were cold. Not too bad. read more

We waited to be seated around 1:15pm and seated by 1:23pm so not a long wait. The crafted drinks took a good 15 mins to receive, but little did I know I would be waiting longer for my food. Our food wait time was absolutely ridiculous, waited more than an hour for my food and we were a party of 2. Beyond disappointed in the wait time, there were other guests around me that were saying the same thing. This was my first time in. We decided to order a meat lovers type skillet, which came with pancakes. It was good, but the potatoes needed to be cut up into "bite-sized" pieces. The potatoes were too big for my liking. Flavor was pretty good, a little more meat would have been great. The pancakes were delicious, and very large. Would order again. The skillet was not exactly what I had expected. If/when we go back, we will surely try something different. read more

This place was really good, except the women at the front counter at 9 am today, I asked her politely if I can get a table of 5 and she gave me a really dirty look and just pointed at the table to sit at after she walked and sat other people to their table. Service was ok but, I ordered the Lake St skillet and it was loaded with huge pieces of potatoes and two eggs.. it was supposed to come with Ham Sausage Bacon mushrooms onion green pepper onion. After digging through the potatoes I found a few mushrooms and minced pieces of ham and shredded piece of bacon. After sending it back they did not even offer me another option. Also when the manager asked me how everything was I explained to him the skillet was overwhelmed with potatoes and no meat and he still refused to remove it. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK.! read more

Me and my friends stopped by for brunch and it was amazing!! The Food was in big portions so you got what you payed for and it was delicious, so many flavors and different things for you to choose from. The service was fast! I went here for the first time today. The place was packed. We were sitting down for 10 minutes before our waitress came and then we waited another 15 minutes to wait for the food. when I got the food. You can see a hair on my eggs I didn't even take a bite out of it. I called the guy that looked like a manager and he didn't even apologize. All he said was would you like me to get you another one and I said no, I lost my appetite, and then he said I will credit you the money back . On your plate. Used to be Sunmist, reopened after LONG time out of business. Remodeled quite nicely in modern and comfortable decor. Ordered a burger (medium) and fries with a side salad. Asked for salad to come out first. Get the salad which is ICEBERG lettuce only in large pieces, with a couple cherry tomatoes, cucumber wedge and hardboiled egg, blue cheese dressing. I take one bite of salad and the food comes out. Not timed well. The blue cheese dressing was disgusting really thick and not creamy so I asked for honey mustard instead and that was not good either. It was chemical tasting. Burger is served with a side of garlic aioli which was somehow thicker than mayonnaise and completely glutenous. The fries were waffle fries so I was expecting something like Chickfila but they were seasoned and broken into little pieces, not very good. The burger was overcooked and not juicy at all. Also it wasn't placed properly on the bun with 1/4 of the burger hanging off the side and I couldn't straighten it out because the crooked bun was glued to the burger with cheese. read more

I wanted to like this place so bad. Unfortunately, I believe it was too short staff on a busy Sunday morning to handle the volume. I went with a large party. We had to ask for a server after sitting about 20 minutes. We had to repeatedly have to ask for waters and to clear our dirty dishes. When staff finally came to clear off our table it took them 3 attempts because they wouldn't carry a bus tub. Cream of chicken had way too much flour. That's all you can taste. OG Benedict holladaise sauce kinda gross. My sister is allergic to onions, she asked for an omelette without onions... it was given to her with onions and she had to send it back. The good things were the coffee, mimosa, and the French toast. The staff was friendly and it's in a great location. I will try it again in a few weeks when it's not so busy and see if their kinks are worked out. But definitely not ordering the OG Benedicts. read more

The chilaquiles and steak were amazing!! The orange juice was probably the best I've had compared to other freshly squeezed ones. Our server was leaving so we were served by another person that was running around and seemed busy but still attentive. She took care of our to go matcha and coffee drinks which were spectacular! Food had no flavor. Potatoes were undercooked. The sausage gravy for my country fried steak had ground meat not sausage. Coffee tasted and looked so water down. The bathroom was disgusting. They put a plunger in the toilet and left the stall open with a toilet filled with excrement and smelling up the entire bathroom. When my friend asked for a manager (Baton), she was told the manager was "too busy". To talk to a customer? About a problem at his restaurant? Really. Unacceptable. And leaving a bathroom in that condition demonstrates a lack of respect for their customers. Do better people. read more

This place has undergone an amazing transformation. Decor is beautiful and the ambience is just as good as the food. Menu has plenty to choose from and the portions are good size. Every dish I saw come out of the kitchen looked like it was ready for a photo shoot, great presentation. Their drink menu is one you won't find anywhere for a breakfast place, the Bloody Mary was on fire and they have a whole line of alcoholic beverages such as aperol spritz and even a Paloma. Coffee is excellent! Service is friendly and speedy and food is quite good. Very clean and newly updated so it's very inviting as well.

I have not tried this restaurant since under the new Ownership, but I was excited because I was a regular at Sunmist, both before and after COVID, and I am always up for trying new places. My birthday was coming up, so I called to make a reservation, since there would be 12 of us coming from all over the place to meet up. I was told they don't take reservations. I then called a second time to let them know that although everyone would be meeting at the restaurant at 9:30am, I would come at 9:00am to make sure we will have a table ready for our large party. I was told again, that was a no, and that I would not get a table until the entire party was there. I have never seen a restaurant that is less accommodating than this one. I was now forced to go with a different restaurant who will accommodate a party of our size, and make sure that the (12) of us were not having to stand around waiting for a table, after some have driven over an hour to get there. If you need some options in the area that will take reservations, there is Bentley's Pancake House in Wood Dale and Hi-View in Villa Park. read more
