When I'm in Stamford on the weekend, there is no question about where I'm eating lunch. I always head straight for the Lakeside Diner. I absolutely love sitting by the window where I can watch the ducks in the lake. The view is great, but the food is even better! My go-to meal is the BLT, which I add avocado to. The ingredients are all so fresh! Also, you cannot eat at the Lakeside Diner without ordering one of their homemade donuts! They are amazing! I highly recommend the Lakeside Diner! I love Lakeside Diner. Good food and atmosphere. Looking out over the lake watching Swans, ducks etc. Homemade donuts are a must. Pancakes are big n thin the way I like them but, could be a little better if they would replace oil used with melted butter for a richer buttery taste. Vegetable oils are pretty bland tasting. Butter makes everything better. Healthier too although does cost more. I'm self employed and always look forward to going here when I'm in Stamford. read more

The most outdated restaurant I have ever been to. The place is so small people bumb into you as there walking by. Poor service because it's constantly packed and under staffed. They get enough business to expand and be better but they haven't made any improvements since they were created. So, it's true what everyone is saying about the donuts here, although for some reason I thought I would find some kind of donut variety. But, I wasn't disappointed by any means. Ordering at least two of their homemade sugar-y donuts with your coffee is a must. They are amazing when they are just made and still hot/warm. Or just simpy put them in the microwave if you got a few to go. As should any good diner, the breakfast menu is top notch. I could easily look at the menu and find something I loved without having to say "without this" or "add that." Prices are reasonable, too. Staff were all very friendly toward me, despite how busy. My only gripe is the limited physical space inside the diner, but again that's typical diner atmosphere, or at least in my experience. While you wait, you stand awkwardly close to the person behind you and in front of you - ha. I have been there two or three times and each time had to wait it out, say, 10-20 minutes for a table. This diner is delightful! The environment is cozy and quaint, and there is limited seating. However, the lake view from the tables is absolutely wonderful. Went today with a friend and was "greeted" brusquely by one of the staff. I say "greeted" because it was not a greeting at all but was rather an order for us to wait off to the side. Another person who eventually took our order could have been more attentive. Food was mediocre (at best--potatoes weren't good, and toast was dry, with no butter in sight.) The scrambled eggs had no seasoning, and the best thing on the plate was the sausage--which is no credit to them, as it's hard to mess up ready-to-cook sausage. The cleanliness of the place wasn't going for them either, everything seemed like it was covered in a very thin film of dust and syrup. Today, the only thing going for this place was the view. The diner is small and your going to be cramped but the entire wall is a window overlooking the lake,so it feel bigger. We did not receive menus upon sitting at the counter for about two minutes. Our waitress was extremely rude when we ordered, telling us to hurry up and not explaining our options. We sat near the telephone and whomever would answer would have an attitude if people asked if they were open (why is this an issue- you are getting business). One of our orders was missing an ingredient in the omelette, which our original rude waitress never came to check on. The place was not very clean and is small. Just got back from Lakeside Diner TERRIBLE. The service was dreadful, both times the waitress brought my coffee she spilt it all over the counter in front of me and didn't bother to apologize or even wipe it off! I ordered a western omelet with cheese and when I received it there was no cheese. I told my waitress that I ordered one with cheese and she slapped a slice of cheese on it and brought it back out. Horrible! Try to imagine coffee made with salt water. It seems so horrible that no restaurant in business would actually serve that, right? Nope, the Lakeside Diner does. The water and coffee our waitress brought to the table were so salty that they were undrinkable. The water smelled bad and seemed thicker than water should be. I assumed it was a mistake and maybe dishwashing detergent was accidentally left on the glass or maybe someone added salt to the coffee thinking it was sugar. I asked the waitress and she said it was no mistake, their water "comes in really salty," but they still serve it to customers, and use it to make coffee and ice cubes. read more
