Ambiance and concept was super cool, but the food and service fell flat. This places sounded awesome. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere, I was excited to try it. It sounded and, essentially, is a gastro-italian restaurant. They take class Italian dishes and twist them into something unique. Their creativity is astounding. My family and I made reservations 2 weeks in advance for a Thursday. It was booked up until 7:45pm, it's so popular. We arrived slightly early but were quickly seated. The interior is so imaginative and quirky. Really quite neat. The table we were sat at was cramped up next to two other tables which was a bit of a bummer but we made it work. We put in our drink order immediately and went on to peruse the menu. Everything sounded fantastic. It was hard to choose. After we all came to conclusions, the waiter told us of things they were out of. For a Thursday night, it was a lot. I was pretty surprised, but there were enough choices on the menu that could easily replace the missing items. We ordered a lot. We started with the Italian Tacos and Arancini Eggrolld. The tacos were very fresh and huge but it was 90% arugula on a pita. Not only did it need salt, but it needed more of everything else (prosciutto, tomato mozzarella). It seemed like a nice lunch time item but it missed the mark here. The eggrolls were alright. It was served with two sauces which redeemed it a bit, but these were also bland. The risotto filling needed to be more cheesy and the meat interior was just bolognese. The flavors were all in all boring and needed something in addition. For my entree I ordered the Volcano. Ever since I went to Italy, I have loved squid ink pasta. The ink gives a nice fresh, salty flavor that really elevates pasta dishes. But, I was debating between this dish and the Gnocchi and evidently I chose wrong. I asked the waiter which one he recommended. I told him I was afraid the Volcano sounded boring; just like pasta with tomato sauce. He assured me it wasn't and that he recommended it over the Gnocchi. I should have went with my gut. It was boring too! The seafood was cooked well but everything else about it was something I could have gotten from spaghetti warehouse. After a bite, I noticed that my pasta was just regular wheat pasta, no squid ink. I immediately asked the waiter and he said, "oh that rings a bell, we are out of squid ink pasta too. Is that going to be a problem?". What?!? They just thought they could pull that fast one over on me? I was bummed but what made me more mad was I said, "I mean, that's essentially the whole reason I ordered the dish" and he responded with "squid ink vs no squid ink taste exactly the same... mostly". What again?!?! Not only did I basically say it was a problem and he disregarded it but he also belittled the part I was looking forward to. I wasn't happy. To make matters worse, the manager came over to ask how our meals were. I told him the exact same thing and he said "yeah, we're out, sorry" and walked away. Honestly, I don't even know if he said sorry. My concerns were disregarded twice. For a $34 dish. I was extra not happy. The dish was overall good... for pasta in tomato sauce but it was bland and missing something. Probably the squid ink! It had a bottom item, a black touille. It was essentially thinly burnt bread. It was actually disgusting and beyond presentation to make it look like magma. It ruined the dish. It was burnt to the point that the flavor seeped into the dish and made it...gross. I even had others at the table try it and there were similar horrified expressions in response. The more I reflect on this dish, the more disappointed I get. My family had similar mishaps with their meals; boring, underseasoned, some times over cooked items (particularly the beef in the Risotto). The best thing we all collectively tried was the Cream of Broccoli soup. I should have just ordered that for $8 and saved myself the disappointment. The drinks were good though! Lol. Good job Bartender. They were pretty neat and imaginative too. Beyond the already mentioned issues with service, my mom and I wanted to order additional drinks. Not once did the waiter come over to ask if we wanted anything else or to fill our empty waters. We had to ask for additional water and we just gave up on additional drinks because we couldn't get his attention. This place is popular for the novelty. It's a really cool idea, but that's about as far as it goes. It is way overpriced for what you get. Please save your money and just come here for the drinks and atmosphere. read more

Excited to be able to try this new place!! The decor and aesthetics are super vibrant and eccentric, yet very pleasing. Reminds me of a big city vibe. Service was great and responsive. They have a large menu with plenty of options. I was pleased to see that they were focused on the design/look of their entrees as much as their taste. We started off with the meatballs and Arancini egg roll. I'm a bit of a meatball snob and these fit the bill! Perfectly crisp on the outside. The egg roll was so good as well, I've never tried anything like it. Next I got the tenderloin medallion for my meal and my friend got the orecchiette alla vodka. The pasta definitely seemed homemade. It comes in a large martini glass hence the all vodka pun! My tenderloin was delicious. Paired great w the whipped herb ricotta. I did ask for medium and it was def more MR, but it still tasted very good otherwise I would've sent it back. We finished our meal off with the tiramisu which was amazing. We could barely fit in dessert but we knew we had to try it and we're so glad we did. A must get! Overall, it was great and I'll def be back soon. Cool vibe. Fun decor. Good service. Menus that light up. Some table side prepped options and an interesting menu. That's all the good stuff about this spot. Unfortunately the actual food doesn't hold up. The food is more clever than good. It's looks better than it tastes. It's not bad food--it just isn't that good and certainly not special. The seasoning is bland, the cook on some of the pasta was over and even some of the attempts to be clever (serving a vodka sauced pasta in an oversized vodka glass) didn't help the dining experience. The table side mozzarella was good although we would have preferred tomatoes to beets on that dish--by a mile. Sometimes classic combos work for a reason. Desserts were ok but not great. I think this spot is worth a visit because of all vibe and feel and decor but we won't rush back. And if you go, definitely do not let them seat you in the blue booths. Loved many things about Lala Lu. The decor is very appealing and fresh, But, the music is loud and raucous, making it hard to hear my dinner companions.. The calamari is some of the best I've ever had, but the pickled vegetables at the base are so vinegary as to have lost their individual tastes. For 16$, the plate should just be calamari. Pastas--we tried the gnocchi--yum! The Cacio & Pepe... also yum. Sea bass was excellent. 4 of us share the gelato, and loved the pepper kick. Will go back. read more

This place is definitely a trendy new spot. The vibes are very much new and hot, with cool takes on classic dishes, such as a martini glass shaped pasta bowl that has pasta shaken in a shaker, or candy striped ravioli. Unfortunately the full experience could be better with service, the problem with the shaker for the pasta is that a Server dropped their shaker because it was too hot, into the martini shaped bowl, but instead of taking the entire dish back because of sanitary issues, they removed the shaker and left the dish. While the trend is new and cool with a great and post worthy aesthetic the price is still too high for this to be a regular spot, but definitely pulls in the younger crowd read more

We came for my friend's birthday from an hour out of town. We notified the hostess 2 times that we were coming for a birthday and when the waiter asked if we wanted dessert he had no idea and I guess wasn't notified and honestly didn't seem to care when I hinted it. Please, if you're a server and you're reading this - if someone asks for a recommendation and you don't have one, MAKE SOMETHING UP. Also, it was so hot inside and the music just didn't go with the ambiance. The food was ok my steak was 95% all fat but the cheese wheel was ok. Wow! What an amazing experience from start to finish. Excellent service thank you Dorese! Decor is stunning and draws you into the atmosphere as you sit at the bar waiting for the rest of your party. We chose to go for a birthday but honestly I would go just for the fun of it as well as the delicious food. Flaming Flamingo was literally flaming and much like a pear mojito very tasty. Wednesday they do not do the table side dishes so we have to return, but the food selections are abundant with plenty of other choices. We had a reservation and were seated immediately after our last guest arrived right on time. The booth was very roomy and comfy. Dorese promptly came to our table with her constant smile and bubbly personality we felt right at home as she graciously assisted us in ordering drinks and a meatball appetizer. The bootylicious was a bit sweet for my taste but fun nonetheless in a mug of its name. The Orange creamsicle came with orange cotton candy which pays homage to the former Grimaldi Restaurant at that location. The steak and ravioli was colorful, perfectly cooked, and a butter knife would cut it. The orichette martini shaken not stirred is literally done that way at the table with just the right amount of sauce and a bit of slightly spicy sausage that complimented the dish served in an extra large martini glass with a long pick and fresh basil leaf that visually emulates the drink of the same name. Food was delicious! Cannot say enough about the excellent service before during and after our meal. We had a glass of wine each to accompany the meal and opted for ice cream bar at the table for dessert. Ice cream has jalapeño in it but honestly was not spicy just warm flavor added to coolness of ice cream and toppings were dark cherries, pecans, shortbread, and strawberries. It came out as a large ice cream top hat with chocolate drizzle and our waitresses husband, who also works there, came over to assist with the first cut which was generous enough to share among us. Underwhelmed describes this néw restaurant best. We sat at an awkward blue bench with 2 extra chairs and were cramped. Menus are huge but lit so you can see as it was dark. I was surprised to find only 1 chicken entree on the menu. My 2 sons ordered it and were not impressed and would not order it again. They do have other animals on menu: duck, beef, seafood. Honestly if I would have looked at menu ahead of time, would not have gone. If you read other reviews, people love the steak and cheese wheel pasta. Desserts and drinks are fun. We paid $200 for a party of 4 for 2 boring pasta dishes and 2 chicken dishes plus meatball app (3). My husband had the bolognese pasta and it had a funky weird aftertaste. I would have sent it back. This place is very interesting. I have been all around the US a and never been to a restaurant like this. The Lala Lu martini was the best thing on the menu. It has a bubble on it and when you pop it, there's candy smoke comes out of it delicious. The bread was also delicious. Oh my God, I forgot how good the bread was until now get the focaccia. We also got the chicken l, calamari, and egg rolls. They were all enjoyable, but not life-changing. Our waitress Michelle, or Michaela was really nice and gave good recommendations. read more

This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! It has the best decor and ambience I've seen in a restaurant in a long time. With that being said I only gave 4 stars because the food although it was good didn't not wow me enough to justify the price. For $50/$60 plates I'm expecting this to be a solid meal with no complaints. I had the veal with the pepper pea risotto. I was told the veal was cooked at medium, mine came well done. We waited a while for the food so I didn't feel like sending mine back, which looking back I probably should have. My parents ordered the t bone steak dinner for 2 and theirs came back well done after they requested medium as well, they sent theirs back and waited a while for a new one to come out. The owner did send over a complimentary cocktail for the mistake which was appreciated. Desserts were amazing! If you want to try something different ask about the fire and ice, it's interesting lol. We had a party of 6 and were seated at a pretty small table, not giving us much room to even look at our menus at the same time. Service could've been a little faster as well but I think our waitress was doing the best she could with a full house that night. The drink menu is playful and they had some really good cocktails, and I loved how the menus light up for easy reading. Like many other reviews state, you should definitely try this place at least once. I do believe, however, that the restaurant leans on its performance aspect a little too much. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe Martini (because why not) and it wasn't half bad. The calamari was slightly overcooked and rubbery, but the batter was good. Half of the plate, however, were other fried vegetables, so the amount of calamari was lacking. For our meals, I ordered the gnocchi, which was ok but nothing to write home about. It was advertised with oyster mushrooms so I was a little let down when 4 baby Bella mushrooms were on my plate instead. The meatball I ordered on the side lacked flavor and didn't get finished. My Caesar salad tasted good, but I'm not a huge fan of cutting my own salad (was plated as a heart of romaine). The decorative crouton was whisked away from me before I got to try it. My date ordered the orecchiette in vodka sauce, which was served in a large martini-glass like bowl after being shaken in a cocktail shaker (performance element). Again, not bad, but lacked flavor and tasted more like a tomato sauce than vodka sauce. Overall, the food was a little underwhelming, at least compared to how visually wild the restaurant was, and the performance that came with the food. The service, however, was pretty good. My husband and I went there for dinner last night for the first time. To say we were very impressed is not enough, it was an experience! My daughter in law recommended it and her and my son got us a gift certificate for Christmas. So we decided to use it for my 70th birthday dinner. From the time we walked in we were treated with courtesy and smiles. We were seated right away, we had reservations. I highly recommend them. The atmosphere was fun and interesting and a little quirky but in a good way! We loved looking around at all the interesting things. But more importantly the food and service were unbelievable perfect. We were very full when we left and talked about it all the way home. Joey was our waiter, he was great and attentive. The man who did our cheese wheel with pasta was great too and was from Tuscany, Italy. I think his name was Lorano. We were delighted with both of them. I was extremely impressed with the ambiance. It was for sure out of the ordinary. The cocktails were very creative not just Moscow mules and mojitos. The appetizer of egg roll arancini was delicious highly recommend. Entrees of the gnocchi and vegan ravioli were very good. The house made blueberry lemon tiramisu was delicious. I did watch the table side theatrics of the Caico de Pepe but unfortunately I saw over cooked pasta in the table side pasta basket sitting in the pot. Wife and I were brought here by friends on Saturday night. The atmosphere, bar and drinks are really great. Much different than your typical restaurant, much more for fun. The food does not align with everything else they have going on. Sat for dinner at 6pm and were told after we ordered it, that they were out of the Sea Bass. Seems precarious when it's only 6pm. Other items on the menu appeared ok however it seemed there was some fusion going on which didn't need to occur. I would give them a second chance if the opportunity preserved itself. Great addition to Syracuse food scene. The ambiance is fun with lots of surprises from chairs, seats, water jug, chandeliers, little visual changing projections on ceiling and some walls and just looking at the quirky presentations of all the different drinks and plates. As a negative I would say the background music was a little too loud and we couldn't figure out how the music genre matched the restaurant- other that it was a little weird :) The service was very attentive and friendly but we had some longer waits between courses so recommend putting orders in early to avoid that wait. Some prices were high but in line with other fine dining in area. I liked that there were also some lower priced options to select which helps if you're on a budget. All the food my wife and I had was delicious (mozzarella made at table, tenderloin medallions, duck breast, gelato tower) were delicious. Then looking at all the other fabulous looking dishes come by makes we want to come back and try some of the other creations. The exec chef came by and talked with us a little. He was very friendly ( like all the rest of staff) and made us fell welcome. Drinks were very good with special glasses and garnishes. Looked in bar area which had a very modern vibe. Service was ok but at times we waited for a long time for our waitress to come back to even see if we needed anything. There were 4 of us and 3 of us tried the filet with the gorgonzola ravioli which was awful. The ravioli had a weird sticky texture almost like putty and after cutting it we could barely taste it since it looked really off. When we told our waitress about the ravioli she said the person that had made them messed up and brought out a plate of regular raviolis and red sauce. Since the gorgonzola ravioli was supposed to be part of the dish it completely threw off our meal. The filet was tougher than most filets i've had and the horseradish sauce had little flavor. The broccolini was cold and the mashed potatoes were ok but nothing to write home about. Overall fun atmosphere but definitely disappointing food. They did not offer any discount or any food replacement just gave us regular raviolis and said the person that made the had messed up. read more

One minor thing to add, I wish they would check a bit more often when you just enter and want a table. Ambiance is just amazing, everything there is great. I did however take away one star because there is a major downside to this place, it just closes way too early. I often come in this area for jobs and I work late at night when traveling. The place used to close at 10:00 pm which is a bit early for me. However they suddenly changed that to 9:00 pm (likely due to people always coming at 9:50), and it still says "closes at 10:00 pm" in apple maps. That did ruin my night because I had high expectations for it and I'm not even sure if I'm gonna be back here again. I wish they closed at 11:00 pm at least. That's pretty much it read more

The look of this restaurant is the coolest I have ever seen, the decor so unique, bold and refreshing, the waitstaff is incredible and attentive , amazing service, unique food and table side cooking experiences available BUT the flavor profiles were not balanced in my opinion. The caliber of the food did not match up with the caliber of the restaurant/environment and price. The clothesline antipasto was great, the duck I felt was over cooked, the spinach though unique and fun texture was very oily and salty and this made the polenta taste under salted and overall the plate very rich/upset tummy inducing.
