But when you're greeted by familiar, friendly faces each visit, it truly makes the experience feel far less intimidating. I've been here a few times now, and it really hit me how many incredible nurses I've encountered but never properly acknowledged. In the moment, you're focused on the procedure--but it's the people who leave the lasting impression. A heartfelt thank you to Kenya and Jenn for taking such great care of me during both pre-op and recovery. Their calm, attentive approach immediately put me at ease. I've frequented ROC and ROC express for myself and my kids and always have had reliable great experiences. This time I was at the surgery center for my boyfriend's broken leg. This was a new aspect of their services for me, but it did not disappoint. We arrived at 2pm and the waiting area was super packed. They took him back about 45 m after our slated arrival time. They allowed me to be with him while they did the nerve block and sedation. I was in the waiting room about 2.5 hours after they took him back and I was the last person there. The post op nurse was great and so patient as my bf asked the same questions over and over because he was still semi sedated. We were the last patient there a the last to. I loved that the surgeon called me and he also called my bf the next day. He also answered a text question the next day for us. All in all this was a very smooth experience and they've got it down pat! read more

I haven't been to ROC for a few years. When I was working with elderly, I had to take my patients for their appointments. So, imagine my surprise when I walked in for my appointments, not knowing they did so much construction! First off, pay attention to signs about parking lots! If the parking lot is full, there are other lots to go too. There are signs telling you where to find them. When you call to make an appointment, ask if you need a referral to be seen. Some insurance companies don't need a referral from primary care, that helped me a lot. There is an X-ray area and they have a shop for orthopedic needs! There are 4 floors and each department, including surgery, as its own area. There is even a coffee shop on the 2nd floor, which I will review :) As for staff, nobody was rude, just seemed overwhelmed with business. Everybody was helpful and doctors explained my conditions. Dr. Boyden has been phenomenal. He and his assistant Megan, Benjie and Yenni are incredible. I was having an issue with my incision I was worried about and they took the time to fit me in and deal with it. Dr. Althaeusen and Dr. Cook are excellent docs, and the staff have always been helpful. Only bad thing is trying to call ROC, I'd rather have a root canal without anesthesia than trying to call the general line. Otherwise, you can't really go wrong with a ROC doc. read more

Tried to see a Dr. Gos to follow up on a lower back MRI. May be a decent doctor, will never know. After arriving on time, I was put in a waiting room (not an exam room as I was never examined). 20 minutes past my appointment, the assistant came in said he was running behind and would be few more minutes. 10 minutes later, same spiel. 15 minutes after that, ditto. I left...care to reschedule...why, so I can go through the same thing. Assistant made me fell like it was my problem. Things happen, I get that. Just treat people like they matter. I have had a great experience going to other areas of ROC, shoulder specialists and an incredible PT crew. Cannot and will not recommend their spine team. read more

Reno Orthopedic Center is a beautiful place that houses so many medical specialities. I came to see Dr. Chad Watts, MD and Orthopedic Surgeon for Joint & Spine. I was very impressed with my office visit from the first moment Cynthia, Dr. Watts PA came to get me, check me in and do all of my vitals. She was professional and kind. I thought my meeting with Dr.Watts was amazing. I felt he was grounded and intelligent and we talked about my knee. I am so happy I was referred to Dr. Chat Watts. This was a really personal and great Medical Experience with ROC. Also I enjoyed waiting at the cafe for my appointment having a chicken Alfredo bowl at The Roost Cafe. It was excellent. When I broke my wrist there was something that didn't feel connected after surgery which I mentioned to my Dr. He said "turn your wrist back and forth" I said that hurts and he said then don't do that. To this day my wrist is crooked and twinges and aches. Thanks ROC read more

Just had a total knee replacement this past Monday by Dr. Jackson Jones at ROC and while it hurts like heck (it was supposed to), the over all experience was an A+. From the greeting at check in, to the nursing staff treating me like they really cared, I felt like I was the most important person there. Their interaction with other patients was highly professional. There is no where in the region I would rather have an orthopedic surgery other than ROC. Thanks to everyone there! read more

Did you know that ROC has an urgent care specifically for orthopedic needs? I did not, but I wish I had! After I was referred to ROC by a different urgent care, Dr. O'Mara provided fantastic care for my broken ankle--my first ever broken bone! From check-in, x-rays, and the doctor visit, I was impressed with how smoothly the flow of my appointments would be. I rarely waited very long and the schedules always seemed to be on time. Additionally, every interaction I had with staff was professional, courteous, and helpful. Due to some past trauma to the same ankle that broke, I was interested in physical therapy options. Luckily, I was able to easily do physical therapy in the same building. I was even able to snag a couple of 6:30am appointments which was great for my work schedule! PT Dave and his team helped me build balance and strengthen my ankle. My ankle stability has improved beyond where it was prior to the injury! What is so fantastic is that I learned several exercises to continue progressing (or at least maintaining) my balance, strength, and endurance. The only down side to ROC is their parking situation. They have a couple auxiliary parking lots across the street which always had available spots. However, the main lot right in front of the building is very small. When I was on crutches, I coordinated to have my husband drop me off at the door, then he would park elsewhere. If I didn't have a person to drive, then I would have been very frustrated trying to get a close parking spot. I hope I don't need any ortho care again, but if I (or anyone in my family) has a broken bone, then I will not hesitate to go directly to ROC. I am certain to receive superb care from the team at ROC. read more

I broke my humerus and shattered my shoulder and they got me in right away at their Urgent Care. And within a few days I had surgery. And I'm doing my PT with them. We had an incredible experience at Reno Orthopedic Center thanks to Rebecca Shoemaker, PA, and front desk concierge Amanda H. The ER missed 3 out of 4 fractures after my husband had a bizarre accident (he fractured one wrist and broke three bones in the other while assembling a plant holder--yes, really). The ER doctor said he might need surgery; a PA at another center later said he definitely would. After 3 weeks of delays, ROC's urgent care was recommended as a way to bypass yet more delays. By pure luck, Rebecca Shoemaker, PA, happened to be onsite on a day not on her normal rotation. She took the time to examine him thoroughly and explain--clearly, confidently, and with so much care--why surgery wasn't necessary after all. Her expertise and calm professionalism were exactly what we needed. She left us feeling relieved and confident in the plan going forward. Amanda H., the front desk concierge, was equally wonderful. From the moment we arrived, she was warm, welcoming, and incredibly efficient. Her graciousness and kindness made a stressful situation feel manageable, and she kept everything moving smoothly without ever losing her sense of calm. She's one of those people who makes everything feel a little easier just by being herself. Wait times for every step were minimal. We are so grateful to both of these exceptional professionals. We are so lucky to have ROC in Reno. I visited two years ago to have my knees looked at by Dr. Webster. I was so fortunate that he was able to remedy both of them without surgery. I have now returned to ROC for a shoulder issue and I am so fortunate the doctor Webster specializes in shoulders and knees. My appointment was this morning at 8:30 AM. The scheduling staff called me the day before and asked me to come in a little bit early to take some x-rays prior to my appointment. It was no issue and I was happy to get them done in advance for the doctor. They don't screw around here. They take care of their patients and they truly are aware of your personal time. I got in 30 minutes early took the x-ray went upstairs and immediately Dr. Webster's amazing assistant Regina took me back to his office. I was in and out in less than an hour with x-rays. The quality of care provided by Dr. Webster and Regina exceeds beyond expectations and I will continue to send all my family and friends here. I am so so thankful that using incredible medical professionals truly care about their patients and you can absolutely tell that they love what they do. read more

When it comes to my doctor there Michael kalasvart ( I should know how to spell it by now after 4 surgery's) he is just fantastic. When you first see him or at least when I first saw him I thought that he looked like a little surfer dude from like Malibu but what's great about him is he does not piddle around if you've got an injury it is like boom take care of it. He makes you feel comfortable gives you all the information you need and is one of those doctors that just you know you're in good hands. And one of his assistants Sean he came in and took out my stitches the other day is another one that just cracks you up in a crappy situation. If there was a couple of stitches on me that were a very big ouch and he kind of made me giggle about it so they get a five star x-ray still a two sorry guys read more

Dr. Dobbs is HORRIBLE! Avoid if all possible! I have now reported him and his PA to the medical board. I was already skeptical after my last appointment with him but this is the icing on the cake. Before my visit, I was able to read my MRI report in MyChart and saw that my knees were listed as having a Grade 2 Chondromalacia patella and lateral tracking of the patella (a condition where the knee cartilage is softening and potentially damaged, and the kneecap is shifting outwards during movement). I also got my 2nd opinion from Swift yesterday so that was confirmed along with a shallow trochlear groove and my knee caps naturally angle outward. Dr. Dobbs didn't even come in the room this visit. He sat outside the door playing games on his cellphone (I know this because this is what my husband and I witnessed while leaving the room). The PA came in and very point blankly told my husband and I that Dobbs looked at my MRI results and "there is nothing wrong with you. You are perfectly ok. Just get back to your regular life and routine and the pain will eventually go away." At this point we told her that this had to be a joke as we could see the MRI results in MyChart and that's not what it said. She repeated herself and got up to leave. I told her that I got a 2nd opinion that said something very different and would be taking my records elsewhere. She laughed and said "ok you have that right" and walked out. About 5 minutes after leaving, I got notified that MyChart was updated with my visit. When I opened it, the summary of visit said exactly what happened: she came in and said there was nothing wrong with me and I said I was going elsewhere. Mid afternoon on the next day I got another notification that the summary was updated. When I logged in to read it the statement was changed completely and nothing but lies. The summary of visit now said that she shared all these issues in my knees, they offered all these treatments, I refused all treatments and told them that I got a 2nd opinion that said the opposite of that and would not return as I was angry with their diagnosis. I never imagined they would change their paperwork almost 24 hours later to lies basically to save themselves. This is when I decided to report them. read more

There are some fantastic surgeons here , however you are treated like cattle . Disorganized check in . Like for Christ's sake , why have everyone stand ( in no organized line , very confusing ) with orthopedic conditions ,? To have to check in . And if you already did online check in , why must you check in again ?! Husband got ankle surgery by a good responsive surgeon , but MyChart responses to follow up questions to complications or questions afterwards were not responded to. They are into making money and no real follow up after they get their money from surgery . If you have other options , look into them before going to ROC for a surgery . read more

Called into the back for an x-ray at 1400, nobody else in the waiting room. checked in with the nurse at 1500 to make sure I wasn't forgotten, she stated there were 2 people in-front of me. 1600 still sitting in the room. It's been awhile since my last visit at Reno Orthopedic Clinic (2015) and now I'm back for a "tune up". With the joys of aging, come the joys of aches and pains, and I have been dealing with some pain on my left hip. Arrived early to get an xray of my hip, and then saw Dr. Zebrak, who did a dusting and cleaning of my right hip. Since my last visit, ROC has refurbished their building. Very nice design, Very professional attire of the employees. Same friendly, professional and courteous treatment. Same easy access to your medical record on MyChart, which allows you to schedule appointments and view your medical record and test results. Parking is plentiful early in the morning and if you need a shuttle, you can call and they will golf cart you over to the main building, if you have mobility needs. The next day Liz called me to schedule my MRI for my hip which will be in a couple of weeks due to availability and then it's back to Dr. Zebrak to discuss the plan of care. We were referred to Dr. LISA KAFCHINSKI who is an orthopedic oncologist surgeon, She was with him through the radiation 25 days of targeted radiation, 4 hour surgery to remove tumor. She visited him all 4 days in the hospital. And thanks to her great care, the cancer is completely gone. This Doctor represents the best of medicine. CARING, EXPERTISE, and the ABILITY to let you know her as a person. I also want to thank LIZ, her assistant for making our office visits so very positive. these guys are attentive through the surgery. if you have questions or maybe the results aren't 100% their attention span wanes. everything is done to perfection from the doc's POV whether you, the patient, has concerns or not. sent home with a bucket of pills you'll be healed one way or another. I've had friends tell me if you suffer from anything out of the ordinary you eventually need to look for answers outside of RENO. I'm dissappointed with the arrogant, flippant approach by several of the ROC staff. not desk staff but doctors and the guard dog staff they keep at the door. read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would!!! I honestly do not understand why ROC has poor reviews. Perhaps it's due to difficult patients' experiences with a particular doctor. Over the years, I've seen numerous doctors and PAs at ROC, and they have all been EXCELLENT (with the exception of ROC Express physician Dr. "B"). Today I saw Dr. Shukla for a 2nd opinion on my post-op total knee replacement pain and poor function. Dr. Shukla is one of the nicest, caring and most knowledgeable physicians I have ever seen. He was so reassuring, and gave me many options for remedying my issues, excluding having another knee surgery. He is very pro-active, and not afraid to think outside of the box. He is AMAZING! I had total knee replacement surgery at ROC with Dr Shukula. The surgery center and the staff there were outstanding. My surgery itself also went well, however, my two-week follow-up visit was less than expected. Had I not asked questions, which he did answer, the appointment would have lasted less than 2 minutes. With my questions, it lasted 5 minutes. This was my second knee replacement (different knee). My last surgeon (also at ROC) had me on the table, hands on, manipulated my knee, and the appointment was at least 15 minutes. I felt like I was no longer an important person-- just told to come back in 2 months-- you're done. I felt like I should have gone home after my X-ray and he could have just sent me an email or text. It was a struggle for me to get there to see him and I should have just back to my car. I don't think it's a lot to expect a 15 minute follow-up appointment. I had actually had a serious fall between my surgery and my appointment (which involved a visit from paramedics) and there was a note about it in my chart from my physical therapist but he hadn't even bothered to look at it?? read more

When my college kid broke their leg, we were afraid of how quickly we'd get in to see anyone. By the time we drove the 3 hours to get to them, the doctors at this clinic had seen our child and scheduled surgery. The check in staff is great, as most people coming in are scared and broken. The surgeon was fantastic and answered every single one of my mom questions. My favorite staff member was the adorable little blond recovery room nurse. She was so gentle and kind to me when she came out to get me and explained everything that had been done and went over the post surgical directions step by step to make sure I understood everything. I've had to come here twice for two different incidents. The first was a broken pinky in 2020. This was prior to their remodel, but construction had started. I first went to the ROC express and was in and out in no time at all. Each subsequent visit was quick and easy. The second and most recent was for a broken foot and broken ankle August 2023. I was seen by Dr Whitlow on August 23 and set for surgery August 24. I was set for the last surgery of the day so the all day fasting was not fun. Once surgery came around, the entire staff was kind and efficient. I was in and out a little ahead of schedule. Surgery went well. Each follow up with Whitlow has been easy and staff has always been in a good mood. A couple of the xray techs seemed a little curt, but they could also have just been repeating their directions like they do every day, not realizing that it wasn't my first time being xrayed. I have one more follow up with Dr Whitlow set for 11/15 and I'm assuming that it will go as well as all my other appointments. I would definitely recommend the ROC for any sort of injury, but especially foot/ankle for Dr Whitlow! read more

My husband had a couple of appointments with Kaiser for severe hand pain. He couldn't pinpoint a certain area as it hurt all over. He did get a few injections. The next time we went in he acted like we were wasting his time. I cannot believe he treats patients like this. Never got a referral to PT. Came here today for x-rays. Both parking lots were full so I parked at the meters on the corner. When you first walk up to the building there are two entrances one is building C which is for people getting surgery. The next entrance is the main building a little walk further. I was told to check in 15 minutes before my appointment time. Since I was looking for parking so long I was late checking in. The front desk associates were very nice and understanding. They directed me around the corner for imaging. I was called shortly after. After my X-rays I was instructed to go to the second floor and that's where I was able to speak to the specialist about my images. Overall my experience was great. I got all my questions answered. The inside of the building was beautiful. They have a great team to take care of you. The parking situation is not the best. But once inside it took me about an hour to complete my appointment. read more

Known also as ROC. Very friendly and professional staff. The clinic is huge and very clean. I had surgery on Wednesday. Friday I was not doing well so my husband encouraged me to call the clinic. They were closed for Nevada Day; however, they had someone taking calls. She took my info and within 5 minutes I had the on call physician call me. He was very reassuring and told me that what I was experiencing was within the range of normal and to continue with the ice, elevation and pain meds. Happily, I'm doing better and only need Tylenol. read more

I had a hip replacement surgery in 7/24 with Dr. Jones. Left within two hours after surgery, no PT and I was told to stop using all assisted devices like a walker within two days. All seemed ok but I had a fall which I told them about at my second follow-up appointment. I could only walk still using my walker. X-rays were taken and Dr. Jones stated that the replacement was where he left it after surgery. He also stated that I needed to do more exercise and that I was not doing well because I was lazy. My hip continued to hurt substantially, and I made another follow-up appointment in 1/25, six months after the surgery. They took X-rays again and again Dr. Jones stated that the replacement was where he left it after surgery. He referred me to PT. This made my hip worse and I only went for four sessions. With constant pain and being unable to walk or exercise, I decided to become my own advocate. I asked my family doctor for a referral to another Orthopedic Center. I went to Great Basin Orthopedic. There I explained what happened and why I went elsewhere. Additional X-rays were completed and it was noticed that there was a leg discrepancy of 14 mm which was more than usual as some discrepancy can be expected. GBO told me that I could go back and talk to ROC again but after I didn't feel they listened I said I would never return there. Options were discussed at GBO and a second, revision hip surgery was scheduled. After this procedure in 12/25, I am amazed! Dr. Winkel said that the previous replacement was very loose and he could understand why I was having such pain issues. He replaced the stem portion of my original surgery. I have been to PT and it has helped tremendously. I still use a cane, I think more for me mentally to feel comfortable, but am walking more and without the discomfort. I believe that this revision saved my life, allowing me to continue without the pain I had been experiencing for over a year. After the initial experience at ROC, I am so happy I went elsewhere. I feel Dr. Jones didn't listen and didn't listen to my problems at all. read more

Parking is a pain to nonexistent. They offer lots across the street and an inconsistent shuttle to ferry you from the parking lot to the building. Then there's the PT scheduling... Scheduling PT is impossible. Your first visit at best is 2 weeks out and then it's another 2 weeks before your next one. Even when you're in the system for two weeks and you attempt to schedule the next second week out, they still have nothing available and will not allow you to schedule beyond 3 weeks. My PT therapist does his best to work with the scheduling person , but it isn't his responsibility to find or make my appointments. Frustrating beyond belief and not exactly what I would call competent medical care. read more

This morning, I tried to schedule an appointment at the ROC Clinic on Arlington, Reno, NV and was on hold for 20 minutes. No one answered the phone. I left a message for them to call me and am still waiting for a return call. I have noticed that Health Care, in general in Reno is awful compare to what I experienced living in California for 60 yrs. The staff is inadequate and inadequately trained. The Patient (customer) does not feel cared for. The staff seems self-centered and not patient focused. It is true throughout the Reno/Sparks/ Carson City area. read more
