Family fav for years. Everyone has different palates, this is mine having grown up in the SW. It gets busy, so expect a wait if you go during peak hours (check Yelp or Google to see those times). They have a decent Gluten Free selection (daughter is Celiac). Chips, salsa, soup, and Taqueria Veggies for the table. Sangria and Margaritas are awesome. Staff is very courteous and prompt. uugghh...I didn't expect to have to make this review because it's Lalo's one of the first Mexican authentic Restaurants..but they were not up to expectations ... maybe I've been spoiled by these New upcoming Mexican Restaurants...so here we go ...I started off with their Botana combination appetizer,.tamales were dry ...empanada was actually good ...but it seems to me, it was just thrown together and lack presentation on their plates ... I ordered Chicken enchiladas suizas with salsa verde..I'm sure they make their own salsa but it Tasted like it was out of a can ...it had a sour tin taste .. maybe they have it in a metal pot that is picking up that flavor . In any case it wasn't good..rice was really dry..my friend had the mole..she said was ok ..but it seems that they lost their touch,as they were excellent years ago .....I'm sorry to say I would not go back ..there is too much competition around there to be wasting hard earned money on food that is just ok .....I could go to Taco Patio and food would be comparable...I also ordered milanesa to go ...it didn't even look appetizing...check my images out.... A group of us ordered from this place and they sent part of the order wrong. We called and shared what went wrong. The lady that has short red hair and she has been there for years. She is the manager. She asked us to bring the order back to her to confirm that the order was wrong. With a strong attitude not with good service to her customer. There was 6 of us and some of us started eating. We had to stop eating and run back to take her the order that was wrong. No restaurant should ask for the food back. I have never experienced that! Terrible service. That was a terrible experience and after so manny years of service I am appalled at what just happened! My friend couldn't eat because her order came wrong. Yet I couldn't remember why I haven't been to one in YEARS! The problem I had was the flavor wasn't there for me. I ordered beef enchiladas was thinking that I would be getting some kind of marinated/ heavy seasoned meet but instead, the "original" recipe is more toned down to accommodate everyone from the ages of 4 and 75 Working in restaurant t I understand some dishes are going to be cooked in large batches. How a restaurant decides to keep the food warm (Heating lamp, top of stove, warmer) is going too drastically affect the outcome of the food. Rice was okay. Beans were just okay. After attempting to find a parking place for 20 minutes. We parked on the street.. Service was rough. Asked for salsa five times before someone responded. Margs we're ok, but only with the addition of a Gran Marnier shot. The combo app appeared WAY to soon, which leads to suspension of pre-prepared or microwaved. Burrito was several notches below Chipotle - amazingly. Fried ice cream was not...well...fried. Had to pull an all-nighter at work and we had Lalo's for eats. I ordered shrimp empanadas with rice and cactus salad. The empanadas were the best. This was the first time having cactus salad. Have not reviewed this in a while but wanted to give them a special shout out for the outdoor summer experience. Last Friday, my husband and I went for dinner and drinks on their outdoor patio. It was just the escape I needed. Food was great, margaritas were great and our server, Norberto, was super nice and checked on us often! I love Lalo's - very cute restaurant. Parking lot is a bit of a nightmare, depending on when you go. Servers have always been friendly. Their margaritas are BIG. I usually get chicken tacos and they're so good. I crave them sometimes. Honestly, my favorite part of every meal is the chicken soup they bring out before your entree. It is so much more than normal chicken soup. Macaroni noodles, shredded chicken, carrots, corn, and potato. The potato chunks soak up the broth and melt in your mouth. Honestly the best soup and I don't even really like soup. Wish you could buy jugs of it to-go ! It's a little pricey but a nice place to stop for a lunch date. read more

The rice was reheated from yesterday, I'm certain because the peas in the rice were dried beyond recognition. Today, I learned to go later in the day. I've been to many Lalos and feels like this has to be my least favorite one as I loved the decor and the authentic feel of the restaurant, the food was just ok. Like I was just disappointed with the food as for the hospitality and service it was fine but, overall I'd say I wouldn't come back as the waiter seem Ike she was serving many tables and easily had to manage more then a few tables. We ordered drinks and I believe she mixed up what we said and bought two frozen margaritas instead of one one the rocks and the other frozen I think because it was busy and the waitress seem overwhelmed with everything my bf just kept his frozen drink. Not what it once was. The music playing in the background is 1980's American top 40. Their famous margarita now comes from a big plastic jug. The soup has gone horribly bland. And the entrees have gone way up in price. Also, much like so many other failing Berwyn bars, there is now video gaming. I'm sad it's come to this. Walked in with wife and 9 year old son on a Tuesday and they first wanted to seat us at the bar when the restaurant was empty. We asked for a normal table since my son is 9 and prefer not being inside a bar. Wife ordered a drink and it tasted like syrup. Asked if they could adjust drink and waitress said no we cannot make any changes. They would not refund or attempt to fix issue and charged us 9.95 for syrup.. We should have walked out then because it got worse. The waitress and 2 others kept pointing and talking about us the entire time we sat down so we finally asked for check and left.
