Ordered 2 different meals from Lalo's Restaurant. Both meals were tasteless, dry, and had no seasoning whatsoever. The food was also not what was described on the menu. We ordered chicken Quesadillas and tacos, that were boiled chicken on tortillas with nothing else. The chicken on both items that were ordered tasted exactly the same like nothing. Lalo's...where to begin! They have awesome food, huge portions, and great margaritas! There are many locations in the Chicagoland area, I've only been to the Glenview one once, and this one many times. This is the better of the two, much better food by a landslide. The food is fairly authentic. All tables are served chips and salsa. Both are really good! They have a escabeche with the standard jalapeños and carrots but they have jicama and a whole bulb of garlic too (which is the absolute best part I could eat it all). Both the chips/salsa and escabeche are complementary. They have amazing margaritas, and they are huge, I usually get the medium and it's more than enough (and I usually get two drinks with dinner out). All entrees come with chicken soup which is great, especially with the lime (if you haven't done this try it, you'll never eat chicken soup without it again). A nice variety of entrees are available but I always get the Carne Asada Zamora, a huge platter with steak, beans, 2 quesadillas, cactus salad, guacamole, roasted onions and roasted potatoes and chorizo with cheese melted over it. It comes in at around $20 and is well worth it, it's about 2 meals worth of food. You can sit in the room with the music and they have live bands/mariachi music all the time. Weekends it's a long wait (usually a hour) for this area but if you really want to hear the music it's a fun atmosphere and a good time. The service is pretty good, and they will customize things if you need it to a certain extent. There are exactly 4 toilet stalls for women in the entire place, the one in the main area is a handicap, and the other 3 are in the women's near the room with the music. Typically they are just manageable, but not super clean. I guess it's hard to keep up on them with the size of the place and a relatively small restroom. Overall solid food, good mariachi, and decent prices. My only concerns would be the lack of restrooms/cleanliness there and the long wait for a table (depending on the day). read more

Horrible customer service, was waiting patiently to be seated and another customer also gets the msg that their table is ready and the take the 2nd customer instead of asking who's next. When I told the hostess I was next she just stared at me and proceeded to take the next customer. The hostess never apologized when I asked her why she took the other Customer first, she said nothing again no apology. read more

This place used to be reserved for the most precious of family outings. The birthday parties or the in laws anniversery parties. Last night I had my first awful meal here. Today, half of my family is sick. Everyones steak tasted like it had been microwaved. It seems like the only thing they got right was the consume. I love this restaurant!! The food is always amazing and can satisfy even the biggest of appetites. The waiters are very friendly and authentic and provide great service. We went on mariachi night (Wednesdays) and had a blast sitting by the mariachi and listening to music. Possibly the worst food I have ever tasted in my life. So so bad. We got the chicken burrito and the enchiladas. Avoid at all costs.

Guisado de lomo was actually the edges of steak with gristle on it. Meat was terrible and service was lacking. A Pepsi was priced at $4.25. They gave me a sauce that was not hot so I asked for hot and they added $1.00 to the bill. Now I know why I have stayed away and have no plans on making another visit. $32.00 for lunch that for the most part stayed on the plate. read more

A look at the star rating above portends the verity of this grave situation. As Beatle George sang so eloquently, "All things must pass", and so fades the brilliant reputation of a culinary and recreational touchstone in my life for nearly 30 years. A single look at my previous Yelps lets one know just how important these restaurants have been to us. Fine Mexican food in joyful surroundings, impeccable service, and the best Margaritas in the Universe. A guaranteed good time, a certain good feed, and never a doubt about it. Well, the sky has fallen. I'm not even going to carp about the current Medical condition which redacts Alcohol from my menu. In days past, any trip to Lalo's was assured to be a Falstaffian Bacchanal, where men vomiting in the ladies room after hours was considered a badge of honor- (not by the staff, mind you). It was a tropical "staycation", and the food was always fab. Of course, age has mellowed us, it hasn't been that wild for years, decorum has a way of creeping up on you. But the Margaritas were still sweet/tart objects of magic, and the food was its perfect match. I've never had a duff meal at the place until tonight. Nothing ever close. Zip. Zilch. Nada. I knew things were going to be amiss, when our waitress didn't bring my Wife her complimentary cup of Lalo's divine Consommé; de rigeuer for every visit to Lalo's. She revealed since my wife didn't order a "Dinner", she was not eligible for the cup of Chicken-y goodness. "Since when?" I asked. "Oh for about a year". We had visited Lalo's plenty in the past year, and NEVER were we NOT served the Consommé automatically. What was this nonsense? I said "bring it anyway, whatever the cost". Everything kind of went downhill from there. I ordered a "choose 4" plate, with a Chicken Mole Enchilada, a Beef Flauta, an al Pastor Taco, and a Chicken Tostada Suiza. Wife ordered her usual grilled Chicken Breast Torta. When the plates arrived, mine was a complete mess, totally ugly and unappetizing. Everything was kind of flat and loose. The Taco was laid flat like a Tostada, the Flauta looked old, the Tostada was kind of thrown together, and I could not make out the Enchilada under the Mole Sauce, (and there wasn't a lot of Mole). Lettuce was kind of tossed over everything.The Chicken in the Enchilada and Tostada was arid-dry and tasteless. Shreds of white meat that reminded me of what a cigarette filter looks like when it is ripped apart; and that has the prime skeeve factor for me. The Flauta did not have the quality of a just-fried morsel. That's what you look for in a fried tortilla item. It seemed like it was microwaved. The Al Pastor meat was greasy and tasteless. The Frijoles were thin, soupy and again, without taste. They looked gross on the plate. The Mexi Rice was also bland as hell. I had a fleeting thought that Taco Bell was tastier than the crap put before me. I couldn't believe I was sitting at Lalo's. My Wife's Torta was similarly awful. The "Pechuga Asada" (grilled Chicken Breast) was rubbery and without taste. She thought it, too, might have been microwaved. Never, ever, have we been served a hot mess like this at Lalo's. I almost cried. I can see a gaffe or two, but two meals of such poor quality isn't a coincidence. Not one bad meal in 30 years. A complete breakdown like this is unforgivable. Did I mention we paid $45.00 for this travesty? Some might say my previous experiences were colored by the hi-test Tequila flowing through my head, but I'm conscious enough to know shit from shinola. I briefly thought of the joke: "What did the Grateful Dead fan say when he ran out of drugs?". "Boy, does this band suck!" Not this time, Amigo. Lalo's has always been a fan favorite in the Chicagoland area for many years, especially the steak taco dinner. The lore of this restaurant was nightlife after 9:00pm fridays and saturdays. You could eat good and dance off the food you just ate! The pandemic has affected all businesses and currently Lalo's has closed the dance floor and fired the resident DJ. So, you can still enjoy the food with the family but you gotta shake your ass some place else. read more

Just had our Lalo's order delivered by door dash. My wife tasted her Steak Taco's and they had a significant metallic taste to them. Called the restaurant and spoke to Antonio. Let him know we were concerned of the funky taste to the tacos and he didn't seem concerned telling us to contact door dash. Almost hiding behind the third party delivery service. His comment was no one has complained tonight about the tacos. He proceeded to say we need to contact door dash for the problem or resolution. We contacted them and said they will contact the restaurant. I ran a restaurant for 5 years and if I heard of any instance of food tasting off I would address immediately. His nonchalant and almost arrogant attitude makes me wonder if food quality is of ZERO concern. Therefore none of us finished our dinners. My boyfriend and I visited Lalo's on a Sunday Night to celebrate my birthday (woohoo!), and the parking lot was packed (always a great sign!). The first thing I want to say about this place is that the service is efficient and awesome. When we put in our name for a table, they indicated the wait would be 10-15 minutes and got my phone number to text me when the table was ready. 5 Minutes later we were seated with Chips and Salsa. Israel, our server was doting and attentive without suffocating us, and we didn't have to wait long for any of our food. For an appetizer we ordered the queso fundido con chorizo, which was delicious albeit a bit much. Soup was served before dinner, it was a small portion but tasty and served with a lime. I would definitely recommend my dinner, steak fajitas that were tender and delicious and in a gigantic serving. I would honestly suggest you skip the appetizer or perhaps a second basket of chips, because their servings are bountiful. Overall, Lalo's exceeded expectations. Prices were a bit high, but reasonable for the service and overall quality of our visit and food. 5 stars are definitely in order, perhaps my new favorite sit down Mexican Restaurant! read more

Idk how I feel about this place. I came about 2 months ago and ordered enchiladas with red sauce & they were okay, red sauce was there and regularly cooked chicken...but what I liked most was the ambiance, inside decor, and the chicken noodle soup & chips and salsa that they brought out before your food. Starting with the waitress, the older Mexican woman seemed so focused on staring at me, giving me the eye - I hate you death stare, that I had to repeat my basic enchilada with red sauce, rice & beans order about 3 times. My order STILL came out wrong!! I'm not sure how considering my friend ordered the same thing and I said I wanted the same as her but with red sauce instead and I repeated myself in English twice and Spanish the 3rd time just in case she didn't understand, which I wasn't sure what to think since she was still SO focused on having her abnormal & negative vibe stare towards just me. My 2 gf's actually pointed it out after she walked away as well. To correct the sides on my order, instead of just bringing the right ones, she left with my whole plate (which made me feel even more uncomfortable.) When she returned with it, my enchiladas had almost no red sauce where it looked like they had put red sauce on top, scraped it off then left under a heat lamp & the chicken inside them was completely dry as well. Came here with a friend for the first time because she got a gift card and we wanted to try a new place. She ordered a margarita, that was so strong that it was not drinkable (normally love a drink strong but WOW). When she told our waitress she didn't want the drink and asked for a different drink instead, they said that it's "policy" to not replace someone's drink even if they do not like it, so they added ice to the drink to make it less strong. They did what they could, which I appreciate. Then when the food came (I got carne asada, she got flautas), the flautas were cold, the beans were all dried up, and the steak was completely rare when I asked for medium rare. Also, the rice was extremely bland- minute rice would have been better. Icing on the cake- we paid with a gift card. The gift card fine print CLEARLY states that you can use the card to pay gratuity. We tried tipping our server and she said that "policy" states that you can only use a gift card to tip with a party of 6 or more. When we tried reading her the fine print, she stormed away from us... why? Because we want to tip you? When we called the manager over, he seemed confused when we brought up this "policy", and ensured that we can tip with the gift card. We explained to him that we were displeased with our experience, and he was completely unapologetic. We are extremely displeased with our experience. read more

There was a shirt wait before I was seated.It was Wednesday, specials on margaritas and live music. I ordered a margarita, it was quite large and very tasty. The menu was pretty topical for a Mexican restaurant. Except maybe the skillets. I ordered the Aztec, it came with steak, chicken, chorizo, and a skewer of bacon wrapped shrimp. It was good. Everything was seasoned well, it didn't lack for flavor. I didn't have an appetizer nor dessert, the meal itself was a lot of food. I had room for nothing else. The prices were average, not cheap or an expensive. The service was good, I didn't get my grilled veggies to start, and she forgot my tortillas, but otherwise it was a good experience. My wife and i decided to try this Mexican restaurant last night. The portions were huge and the food was decent. I'm not sure I will go back except for one reason and that was our server Gabriel. I do not say this slightly but here is the best server that I've had and at least 15 years. I think I'm qualified to say this because I've been a server myself for 28 years and I have a very high standard for myself but also for somebody who Waits on me. STAFF ACCUSED ME OF ORDERING FROM FAKE LALOS WEBSITE. Ordered online. Waited over an hour to receive pick up time and never received anything. Showed up to restaurant to ask about my order. Showed them my confirmation email of proof of purchase. Staff denied my order and claimed they could not see it in their system. Accused me of ordering from a false website and they continued to deny my order BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT SEE IT IN THEIR SYSTEM. I asked for my money back and Lalos refused to refund my money because they could not find my order on their system. They continued to accuse me of ordering from a false website and made me show them how I ordered and even showed them my bank account where I showed a charge from their restaurant. Finally turns out their website has various systems to order from and they FINALLY found it on ANOTHER system that they use. Staff was treating me as i was a thief and trying to steal from Lalos in Berwyn. Staff was almost yelling at me telling me there is nothing they can do about it. This place was hyped up way to much! Came here after having dinner with friends and we wanted a drink and some live music. We decided to come to lalos. It was around 9pm on a friday. We were by the bar and we had these pillars blocking our view. There was a live mariachi at the time that spent half the time singing happy birthday. Decided to try their infamous margaritas and I can say I def had better. The margarita was so bland and bitter. After not liking the margarita decided to order a cantarito. The restaurant itself is huge with an attached parking lot. The wait staff is very friendly. I found the booth we sat at was very small for four people and cramped. Some of the waiters in the Bar area at the Berwyn location need training they beg !!!!! for tips and get angry when they do not get a tip after they gave you bad service.. !! They are also more concerned with who is on the slot machines than they are with customer service. Manager is no help or can care less. Overrated! I stopped in to get a small consume and 6 steak tacos, my total was $40 something. (tacos had cilantro and onion only) One mini slice of lime that they gave me was dry. There didn't give me any napkins, plastic utensils. For the amount I paid, I should have at least been given some napkins or a fresh lemon. Lalo's isn't what it used to be.
