Every once in a while, I meander across the lake to meet up with friends. One morning, we decided to visit LaLou. This place is ADORABLE! The food is delicious and the servings are huge! We had omelettes and coffee, and were able to enjoy just sitting there engaging in conversation without being bothered or feeling like we needed to leave. It is in a house (it seems) and the decor is sweet. Service was good, and I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast or brunch. My Hubby & I went here for breakfast on Wed. April 3. We both ordered coffee and Food. The food was just okay. I kept waiting for a coffee refill, & when I finally got a server's attention, I asked for more coffee. It took so long we were ready for the check. The server asked if we wanted our coffee to go. Of course we responded yes. Later, when I looked at the check, she had charged an extra $5.00 for the coffee. Ridiculous!!! We will not return. read more

The interior has this sorta "homey" feeling. I had the shrimp and grit, my fiancé had "the simple breakfast". It was okay for the most part. The drinking glasses were smeared and dirty (and super noticeable). Sever was good and the food came out pretty quickly. I have to admit I like LaLou very much. The owner is personable, spending more time to talk with me than she probably had (I'm a talker) and quickly accommodating my idiocy with a new cup of tea after I mistakenly put cream in a blend that included citrus. (Instant curdle.) Anyway, the portioning of my salmon quinoa was so large that half of it made the trip back with me across the pond to New Orleans for breakfast the next day. The waitstaff is attentive, the menu inspired, ingredients fresh and local-sourced, and the ambience pleasant with a hometown feel. I have walked by this place a number of times and was never inspired to stop in. I went, this morning, with a friend, her two adult daughters, and their babies. This is a good place for little ones, they had enough high chairs to accommodate two tables that I saw. That is probably the last good thing I have to say about this place. One of the daughters turned 21 today. She chose this place so that she could have a Mimosa. The mimosa was terrible. It was made with orange juice and white wine, not champagne. We had standard breakfast fare. Their Florentine Benedict, to me, is eggs sardou, with an English muffin. They eggs were a bit too undercooked for my liking. Although the country potatoes are good. The others had a potato bowl, bacon and cheese omelette, and basic breakfast. No complaints with those entrees. However, we did order a side of grits with cheese, which did not arrive with the food. Half way through the waitress finally came back to check on us and we reminded her about the grits. They had been left on the counter in the kitchen. She brought them out and they were cold. Do NOT come here if you expect COVID-19 guidelines to be followed. The only reason Lalou was given 3 stars was because our food was tasty. Although the servers were wearing masks, the hostess (who I think is actually the owner) was not wearing a mask. There were clearly no capacity restrictions in place. In fact, they tried to place us in a small room that was already filled with three tables of 6 people, and one table of about 12 people. Now, keep in mind that this room was SMALL. The tables were absolutely not six feet apart, probably about 3 feet apart (if that). Because I was uncomfortable, I asked the maskless hostess to seat us in another area of the restaurant that was much more spacious and had at least six feet between tables. Rather than respond courteously, she responded with a huge attitude, stating that we couldn't switch tables. She said "Well the fire marshall said that our table arrangements were fine so I don't know what to tell you." I promptly told her that it didn't matter how the fire marshall arranged the tables because their establishment was blatantly disregarding all COVID recommendations. The hostess was unable to refute my statement because there was nothing she could say... they were not taking COVID restrictions seriously. Therefore, we switched tables, and we enjoyed our meal. In normal circumstances, my husband and I would've walked out after being treated like that. However, we were with another couple, and I didn't want to inconvenience them. Needless to say, we will not be back. If you want to eat in an environment that feels safe, do not come to LaLou. read more

While your food is pretty darn delicious, the service here is ridiculous. I will not be back anytime soon. This was my second try in 2 weeks to come and eat at your establishment. Last time I was in line for a table outside, only for your staff to seat everyone before my son and I. After waiting for 40 min, we finally got seated and only received sub par service. This time we were seated immediately and waited for 20 min for the server just to bring drinks and then never return to the table. As a chick in the service industry for 19 years plus, the service here is a joke. Good luck and I hope y'all fix the issue. Especially in these times. read more

The only reason I'm leaving the old review up is that the day we went it must've been a fluke. This time, the service was excellent and the food that looked and smelled so good that we didn't get to try; once we tried it, it was glorious!! Until we finally walked out, you need a new staff, or to not be in the restaurant business because this is the third and last time I will ever come here. An Old Mandeville favorite. LaLou was recommended by my husband's barber and we finally tried it--good breakfast with large portions. I had the bacon and cheddar omelette and it comes with home fries and toast. The home fries weren't homemade, but out of the freezer and deep fried. Still a good accompaniment to the omelette. Cozy and charming atmosphere, very tight quarters inside, but outdoor seating for when we take the dogs. It gets very crowded on weekends so patience is required to enjoy this quaint little restaurant. Typically worth the wait. read more

We came here for brunch on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago, and I wasn't very impressed. I got the Blue Crab Benedict, and my fiancé got the Redfish Benedict. We currently live in Texas and are from the area, but we don't get good seafood where we live, so my expectations were high.. and so were the prices. My dish was $15 and his $16. The country potatoes were cold and tough, our hollandaise was watery and broken. For $16 and $15, I would have hoped for freshly made hollandaise, not the package variety. My crab cakes were cold and he said his wasn't too far off from cold. Our waitress was young and could care less about her job. It just wasn't worth the money. The only redeeming quality is the charm of the restaurant itself. Its in a prime location near the Lakefront and the setting is beautiful. My wife and I decided to give this place it's 5th and final opportunity to redeem itself. We showed up at 730 when the place opened and had to walk around to find someone to see if it was ok to take a seat. Once we were sat not a single person came to take a drink order or even our breakfast order. We both sat patiently for 10 minutes and watched as another couple came in and sat down after us. Not only did they receive drinks before we did but also there server took their full order. After 15 minutes with no one coming to our table waiting we decided to leave. The only reason this place is still in business to due to the limited options for breakfast restaurants in Mandeville. We will not be coming back here ever again. I'm an sincerely disappointed in the management and staff. Update* I had have a successful conversation with the owner of this establishment. I do sincerely appreciate the time and effort he put in to rectifying the situation. I do not feel it would be necessary to receive compensation as his investigation of the issue was plenty. I do hope this is a learning experience for his staff members and that these mistakes become fewer and far between. Exceptional customer service requires attention to the details even those that may seem trivial. Later on down the road I will consider a return if there is a positive change in customer service. read more

I am only giving 3 stars because our server and staff were very kind. The food was not very good and we waited for quite a long while, watching other patrons that were there after us get service before us. The staff was nice but they never asked if we liked our food. The bacon had a weird chemical flavor and the chicken was very tough. The lettuce was fresh and the pancakes were good. I barely touched the wedge salad with chicken that I ordered and didn't take it home. Still, nobody checked on the quality which tells me they didn't really care to make it right. They were pretty busy and I didn't want to start an ordeal sending food back. But, it's disheartening to spend my hard earned money on food that I don't like. This is just my opinion. I was happy to be able to eat out on a beautiful Sunday and thankful they were open. They simply did not meet the food quality standard I have. Four 1/2 stars! Had a very good experience here today for lunch. Great ambience and easygoing atmosphere here. Very light and airy with a nice breeze. Fantastic spot for a casual breakfast or lunch. Awesome location-walk to the lake. Very nice outdoor seating area as well. They have a great brunch/lunch selection. The menu is clear and easy. My mom had the Sunshine salad (shrimp) which she very much enjoyed. I had the waffle bites with fruit. The waffles were delicious, the strawberries fresh and tasty, but the blueberries and blackberries were something of a sweetened purée of fruit spooned on top of the dish. It was a little too sweet for my taste, but others may well enjoy it that way. Fresh fruit would have been better (Hence the half star off). Service (Lexi?) was very courteous as well. Very attentive and friendly. Men's room was adequately clean as well. (Faucet should be tightened to the sink.) Only downside I see is that it's a little small and fills quickly, so you may be waiting for your table. read more
