This is a review in two parts - I was pleasantly surprised to drive by and see a Thai restaurant I wasn't aware of in a town I visit monthly. Part 1: There just aren't a lot of good restaurants in Greensboro that I've found (outside the Reynolds area), so when it comes to a Greensboro sit-down restaurant, this place is a great option for a clean, attractive dining room with tasty food that beats much in the area. For a town like Greensboro, it is a 4 star restaurant. Part 2: I love Thai food. My wife's family is Thai so I am spoiled having my mother in law making the best Thai food ever. Moreover, we regularly eat at Thai restaurants at least weekly. As far as Thai restaurants go, I'd give the restaurant 2.5 stars. It is simply too bland (and Americanized) to compete with great Thai spots. Serving size wasn't great either. That is why I am saying 3 stars overall. Maybe 3.5. It's great for Greensboro but not on par with other Thai food I've experienced. read more

Lamai Ban Thai Kitchen, located on Carey Station, was a delightful surprise for my parents and me. I had been researching this place for quite some time, and I was eager to try it out. The pineapple fried rice and traditional Thai iced tea were simply amazing in terms of flavor and taste. My parents also ordered the pad Thai, which was equally delectable. The service at Lamai Ban Thai Kitchen was consistently attentive and professional. The young lady who served us last night was particularly noteworthy. Not only was we very well-cared for, but we also felt like we were part of a welcoming business establishment. I am excited to find a Thai place near Eatonton but I wish they were open on the weekends! The food does not have quite the same flavor as other Thai restaurants I have been to, but it is still pretty good. I would have liked my Panama curry to be spicier at the medium heat level, like I am used to from other restaurants. We arrived at 6:10 pm Sunday for dinner. We have been wanting to try this Restaurant for a while now because of the great reviews. When we walked inside we were told that they were only doing carry-out service. Nothing prior indicated that this was the situation. We left disappointed and I am sure we will never come back. The food was really good! We got the yellow curry chicken, satay chicken and Tom Yum soup. Everything had lots of flavor and was delicious.

Everything is fresh and yummy. Some say the noodles are rubbery but you have to understand that these noodles are not Italian noodles

Passing through and was just craving something different I came here based on the reviews .. The food was good but not great As another reviewer commented it was not authentic and by that I mean the soul isn't there I don't know how to put my finger on it ..it's missing flavor with that being said it's ok the place is clean Atmosphere is meh but k would eat here again if I had to. This place is awesome! I was looking for a place that could handle dinner for 18 people on a Monday and knew LBan Thai was small, but called anyway. The owner agreed to 630 even though it would only leave 3 tables for other guests. We'll they over delivered! We were able to get drinks and appetizers while everyone arrived, meals were brought out promptly and delicious. This is a great local restaurant that was able to make it through the last 2 years and I would recommend everyone give them a try. read more

First time for me and it was great! Staff are friendly and service is very good. We were greeted at the door and seated in the restaurant. Menu was impressive and there were many choices to enjoy. Stopped by on my drive out of town after a business meeting. I admit I relied on the rather positive reviews on Yelp but I am not sure why they received so many positive reviews since my experience was sub par. First of all, no one in the restaurant is authentically Thai, not that it matters that much but does somehow help support the cuisine being served. I have been to many Thai restaurants at all price ranges, but the dishes here didnt taste authentic whatsoever. We started off with spring rolls which tasted ok but were a bit cold so it was apparently fried earlier, or sitting too long before being brought to table. Two main entrees were a garlic chicken dish and Pad Sew chicken. The first arrived more like a frajita on a sizzling plate. Other than garlic, there was not much flavor. The noodle dish looked bland but did have some flavor. It was ok but again, nothing authentic tasting. The place itself has zero ambience. Music being played sounded like elevator music. Worst of all to me is that the bathroom door was literally facing the dining room. There was no attempt to put a plant or something in front so that if the door was left open you could literally see the toilet from your table! Not to mention, and I hate to say this, the toilet was NOT clean!!!! Horrible reflection of ay restaurant. The trash bin was overflowing and left ajar and the toilet seat was left up and I could see lots of yuck under the rim. Overall, I would not come back and not recommend. read more

What a hidden little gem. I've worked in this town for years and I never knew about this restaurant until now. I went there for dinner and overall I was very pleased. The waitress was very tentative and sweet. The food was delicious and beautifully severed w/gorgeous garnishes. I ordered Tom Kha Soup w/chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai. Both plates had great flavor, the only complaint would be that the shrimp was a little over cooked (dry). We wanted to get the whole experience so we decided to get dessert as well so we ordered fried banana's drizzled w/chocolate syrup w/coconut ice cream, delicious! I give this 5 stars for the area. It is the only Thai restaurant in the area and it is very good Thai food. All of the food is freshly made in house, not frozen. Presentation is very good with good service. For appetizers we ordered the fried spring rolls, wings and crab rangoon. All were good, but nothing different except the rangoon was better than average. We split the Pineapple Fried rice for the table, this was very good. We also got Pad Thai, Spicy Eggplant and 2 specials, Curry Duck and Softshell Crab. Pad Thai was average to above average and a large portion, Eggplant was not Spicy but good. The specials were the best dishes. We tried all 3 desserts they offered, but the Sticky Rice with Mango was beautiful and tasty. Definitely will come back a lot. This place could quite possibly be the best Thai I've ever had. That's impressive because I love thai, and I live in the big city of Atlanta, and have also lived in Tampa and Denver. The paid Thai needs ZERO siracha and has amazing flavor without being too saucy or too dry. The tom kha is extremely flavorful and creamy. The spring rolls have tons of fresh veggies and are absolutely delish. I LOVE how they cook their tofu. It's not just steamed it has a little crispiness on the outside. I'm really impressed and full! Only one con: there was only one person working the floor AND the to go orders.... service is a big deal but their food is so good it won't stop me from coming back! Yum!! read more

We are very fortunate to have such Thai food at the Lake. All the basic dishes are excellent, and Lamai Ban usually has an interesting special. I like to add tofu to most of my meat dishes to get some extra protein, and they can go from mild to Thai hot depending on your tastes! read more

First of all it's great to have a real Thai restaurant in the area. I have worked my way down the menu and have been very happy with everything. The spices are always correct. Even the pra ram, which usually the least flavorful when talking about Thai food, was done well. I find that it's a great place to go for lunch, not a long wait and the portions are correct. It is a bit high on the price side when compared to McDonald's. The service is always great and the atmosphere is very open an calming. read more

Very disappointing, my sister in law was born and raised in Thailand about an hour outside of Bangkok. I'm also a chef who knows a thing or two about Thai cuisine. The curry was extremely soupy and really tasted like slightly spicy coconut milk, the beans and peppers were raw and the seafood was entirely over cooked. I also ordered the sticky rice as it's a favorite of mine that I make at home in my pot and basket, what ever they gave me was far from sticky rice except for being a sticky lump of mush... the only reason I gave them 2 starts was the service was good, so 2 stars for the FOH and -3 stars for the uninspired cook with no pride for the food they let walk out of the kitchen... I won't be back anytime soon if ever... such a disappointing meal read more

Explained to server that it was out first visit and how we were excited to be there. Food was served with vegetables undercooked (onions and carrots). Shrimp was way over cooked. Sent one dish back to have onions cooked more thoroughly...still not edible. Explained to apologetic server that we would not be back. She was very gracious. Owner/manager (not sure) came to table explaining this was not the typical way the food is and also asked where we lived. Not sure what where we lived had to do with it, but... It was not busy (we were the only two in the restaurant), so I am not sure what the problem was with the cooking times. we have been here several times so I feel I can comment on a lot of aspects. Love the food curries and egg rolls are excellent. the soup we tried was tom kha and it was not good. Th e soup did not hit the mark. the pad thai gets a 3.5. all the other main dishes are wonderful. their Panang is wonderful but they are very skimpy on their meat. I have been to at least 30 thai restarants and this is the only one that charges for Rice....really and we were charged a 1.50 for a couple spoonfuls in our dinner that we got to go. look guys rice is cheap .....I would recommend this restaurant and hopefully they will change a couple things to improve. read more

Very clean, very friendly and a good taste. I do agree they could add more protein to the plates. The carrots on all of our plates were close to raw and the green peppers could have stayed on the stir fry a bit longer. My plate was to have dried red peppers but they were not present. I was so excited to have a Thai restaurant so close to home. Unfortunately this place is nothing to be excited about. I wanted this so badly that I went 4 times just to be sure that my experiences were not just bad luck. First the food: All of the curries are good but forgettable. The pad Thai is nearly inedible. Literally just a plate of overlooked noodles in a barely passable peanut sauce. The pineapple fried rice is good, not great, just good. No Pad Woon Sen. The service: It is impossible to exaggerate how bad the service is. My wife and I eat out 5-6 times per week and we cannot recall ever having had such bad service anywhere. The lunch service is ok, but for dinner they chose to staff the restaurant with teenagers and not an experienced adult to be found. At our last dinner there, with 6 full tables, they didn't bring us menus until we flagged down a server and asked. It took 55 minutes to get our order and when we asked how long it would be the server said "I don't know, I don't work in the kitchen." We waited another 30 minutes for someone to bring our check. When they did not, I went to the counter only to find out that no one knew how to change the printer paper so they could not provide me with a check. I don't know if they were just going to let us sit there all night or what. That was the final nail in the casket for us. There are much better restaurants within 10 minutes of Ban Thai and there are better Thai restaurants within 35 minutes (Kai Thai, Siri, Thai Spoon). Don't waste your time or money here. read more
