Lamps plus has a lot of great inventory, however their customer service is very lacking. I purchased a beautiful flush mount fixture back in late February for a new apartment I would be moving into in March, but the pandemic hit and I wasn't able to move in until July. When the lamp was finally installed two of the former branches stopped working within a few minutes of installation. My electrician said there was a problem with the lamp and he could fix it for me, but at an additional charge. The lamps was new and right out of the box, so of course I called the store and explained my situation. They told me "no problem, we'll have to order one from our warehouse and let you know when it's here so you can come and exchange it. " it all seemed great until I never got a call back. I figured I'd let it sit until I didn't have time to have it uninstalled or the time to take it back. I went back in early October for another purchase and reminded them about my lamp, I get it. Mistakes happen, people forget things. They told me it would take three weeks to ship and would be in by Nov 3rd. I had no problem waiting a few more weeks but ensures they had all my correct contact into so they could call me. I needed the lamp by Thanksgiving. That's all. It's the weekend before Thanksgiving and I am furious that I haven't gotten a call so I called to see what the problem was and they didn't have my order. So I had to have my husband uninstall the lamp and head over for an alternate exchange, and when I get there, Anna, a customer service rep goes up to me with a bad attitude and look on her face as if she's doing me some sort of favor. We make the exchange and they offer free installation, but the cashier didn't know when they'd install it. Of course I'm upset at this point and asking to speak to the manager, when out of no where a blonde older lady gives me the most condescending look EVER and tells me "you'll just need to call and ask them when they have time to do the installation". It's the WEEK OF THANKSGIVING and I am without a light in my dining room. And this woman tells me to call and find out when they have time!?! Of all the things she could've said, she decides to say that to a customer who is upset due to THEIR lack of professionalism. Safe to say I'm never going back there again. read more

My husband and I had an excellent experience purchasing a new chandelier at the Torrance Store. Our Lighting Associate, Anna Trejo was so knowledgeable in helping us find the right size and style we were looking for. Ask for Newton and you will be happy. He is a funny guy who is very helpful. I think the customers who expect to get help as soon as they walk in there in a busy day, and expect to hog one sales person's time is unreasonable. We had to wait a few minutes here and there because customers would constantly interrupt our sales man when they are clearly with customers, i don't know if they need more sales people...but the place has so many options and they help you out with ideas to install your lights. I was warned not to go in there because they were expensive, the prices were reasonable and competitive to prices online. Definitely worth going there to buy to see it in person. read more

On a trip to California to see my favorite band, we noticed the Lamps Plus as we rolled into Torrance. The next day before leaving town, we made a special trip just to check it out. I have looked at Lamps Plus online extensively and so this was a good opportunity to see some of the things I had seen online, in person. I made my way to the shades section and was able to pick out a lamp shade that was the perfect addition to a kitchen light that was too bright and too sterile looking. I was able to purchase the lamp shade and have it sent to my home in NC for a nominal fee. The lamp arrived right on time and was exactly what I needed. Worked perfectly for me. I also purchased two vanity lights online that arrived and were installed easily in the master bathroom. While others are getting the stock stuff from Home Depot and Lowe's--their lights look like everyone else's. Here you can get just about anything you can imagine! read more

We purchased a chandelier almost a year ago that suddenly stopped working. I had both white lights and a rotating color design. I dealt with Paul who determined that an electrical component had failed. He was able to find a replacement chandelier in Texas that he had shipped to us at no charge. The customer service at this store and the one year complete warranty are exemplary. There is no question we will continue to use Lamps Plus. And, by the way, they have one of the most comfortable reclining chairs I have ever purchased. read more

My porch light failed so I headed to lamps plus. I looked at the choices then went to ask a question. Cris helped me. She answered my questions with no pressure. I told her about my other light and how I thoughtbthe ballast failed. She proactively looked up a replacement part. She didn't see one but said she'd contact the vendor. Then she thought about it more and came to the conclusion there was no ballast but a socket. She went to the back and gave me a free socket. Fantastic service! Not worried about a sale but rather helping me. Fyi, a light sensor failed not the socket but she saved me over $100. I'm really thankful for her generosity! read more

I have a variety of odd light bulbs in my house that require me to go to a specialty shop like Lamps Plus to get them replaced when they burn out. Lamps Plus always has what I need, they provide personal service, and are always really nice, helpful people. It does seem, though, that buying light fixtures for one's house is a stressful experience, because there's always a cranky customer in there whose life it seems depends on finding the perfect light fixture. read more

I was surprised to hear back from Edward the installation Manager a day after my review. He apologized and assured me that this was atypical of how business is typically run at Lamps Plus. He asked that I give his team a chance to install the recessed lighting. I was really happy he followed up and so said yes. His guys did a fantastic job, very professional. The customer service at this store is awesome. An hour a go I stopped by to replace a screw on knob that holds a lamp shade in place. I walked in and within seconds was approached by a salesman (Tiem). I explained the reason for my visit and he showed me where the decorative shade knobs were. He asked if I wanted decorative or plain and when I replied "plain", he said "Oh, I can give you one for free". YES HE SAID FREE! He went to the stock room and came out with the exact item and color I needed. NOW THAT IS GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! And I let him know that! Again - Thank you Tiem. I will never make the mistake of shopping here again. My first trip was agonizingly slow - around two hours to buy four fixtures and two mounting brackets, and the majority of that time was spent waiting on the salesman to "check the stockroom", retrieve the items I actually wanted to buy from the stockroom (two chandeliers were not in stock and two ceiling fans were), and figure out how to run the checkout computer. Yes after waiting 20 minutes for my turn to check out, it took another 15 just to pay. To add insult to injury, BOTH of the ceiling fan mounting brackets I bought were broken and unusable. We had to return them and get new ones from Home Depot. It was really clear that the people working here have no consideration or respect for their customers' time. I thought the selection was only so-so. I came here expecting a huge variety of light fixtures in every style but that wasn't the case. I had a really hard time picking out anything at all that I liked and that coordinated with our decor. Everything was either really modern or really traditional with nothing simple and classic. Items that had to come from the warehouse that were promised to be in the following day were not, and despite my request to do so, he did not call to let me know they weren't in, wasting us a trip. We ended up returning the two fixtures that did not come in on time. The only bright spot in all of this is that the ceiling fans that we didn't return were on sale, and they have a very nice wall control with three fan speeds and a dimmer lamp, without any ugly pull chains hanging from the fan. read more

Painfully slow service here. After waiting forever for someone to help me, I chose the fixture I wanted and they said I have to wait a moment to check their stock. Instead of checking their stock room they went to help other customers. When they finally did check, they didn't have what I wanted. Going to order on Amazon instead. read more

I'm writing this review because the excellent customer service from Trevon and Shirley at this store, is the best I've received in a while anywhere. I needed to determine if I could replace one blade and iron on a Casa V ceiling fan. Shirley consulted with someone in the back and assured me that I did not need to spend more than $27 for the replacement part! Wonderful. She was kind and on my side. The part arrived within 2 days. Being not that handy, when I was ready to do the repair, I called the store for help. Trevon Dennis answered my call, studied the photos I emailed him, guided me through the process for a total of THREE phone calls. He was kind, considerate, patient and ultimately most interested in helping me accomplish this and feel great about it. He did it! I have been looking online at Lamps plus. I decided to go to the store and see if they had something I liked rather then order something. I was browsing around the store when a friendly man, or I thought asked if he could help. He was Asian and his accent was a little hard to understand. I asked him a couple of questions and he said he was with a customer and would be back. By the time he came back I had picked out a couple of lamps. I showed him what I had picked and he said he would check and see if they were available. He came back and told me the only one he had was the floor model and he would box it up. I told him I don't buy floor models. That's when things went wrong. He went back and said he found just one in the warehouse and he would ship it to my house for $19.00. I said no, I would find another lamp. He didn't like that. So he goes back and pretends he's talking to the manager. Funny thing was his badge said he was the Asst. Manager. He comes back and said they could ship it to the store and I could pick it up next week. Funny how that works. Then I showed him the other lamp I wanted and I said I had a couple of questions. He had the nerve to tell me to hurry because he had to go on his break!!!! Normally I would have left the store but I wanted these lamps so I put up with his rudeness. As we were walking back I saw him roll his eyes at me. I spent over $500. in this store and had to put up with abuse. As I was in the store I could hear all the other salespeople and they all seemed very nice. My luck I get this guy. I am not giving, Newman the Asst. Manager 3 stars. I'm giving the store 3 stars. I purchased directy from the store and worked with a sale rep a $430 ceiling fan with addtional $30 wall control ( which the store sales rep chose as it was compatible with the fan) and installation for $100= $560. The Lamps Plus installer installed ceiing fan incorrectly and caused a crack in the ceiling and charged $25 additional for installing wall control even though I had already paid $100 for the installation. After I paid the additional $25, I was told the wall control is incompatible and does not work. LP sent out a second installer who installed correctly but the wall control is incompatible. I have called LP several times and must repeat each time. They owe me $55 for the wall control and bogus installation. I have spoken a few times to the Asst. Manager who I have had to tell over and over what has happened and she just states that she will make a few calls and will call me back but I never hear from her and no response to my ongoing emails. Do not shop here! go to Home Depot or anywhere else. read more

She patiently educated me about the difference between integrated external LED lighting and using LED bulbs related to the new California law and took the time to show me different models and explain nuances about important details. I put 2 chandeliers on hold on 2/17/11 with an employee named Newman. Newman told me that the deposit I placed ensured me that they would be In Stock In Store and were available for whenever I decided to pick them up. My husband and I took the day off from work to make the Long Drive down to Torrance and decided to double check they were there, Only to be told that they were on order and were not physically present in the store even though their employee NEWMAN guaranteed me they would be. I then decided to go to their website to talk live with a representative I talked to a man named Michael who gave me nothing but attitude and sarcasm. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If you're thinking about buying lamps go somewhere else. You will wait hours to be helped only to be helped by incompetent rude employees. read more

I went to Lamps Plus in January, I saw a chair in the window that I liked while I was driving by. It was priced at 549.00. A little too high for me. I noticed a week ago (2mos later) the store was having a sale, 50% off. They hiked the price of the chair to 999. and put the price at 549.00. Unbelievable. I was very disappointed. I felt so touched that she remembered our names even though it had been a month between our first and second visit. She goes above and beyond to help you make selections when we had no real plan on what style we were going for. This 'yelp' is long overdue for what has been an ongoing service relationship for the past three years; I stopped into my local store looking for lighting alternatives to brighten the living room in our (built in 1952) home; I wasn't sure what I was looking for, and on the day of my visit I met Erik Thomas, the store manager, and that is when things started to 'light up'; Eric told me all about interior lighting choices, (well beyond the lamp), including recessed lighting options; I was able to see the various styles on display in their showroom; he also explained about the dimmers and how they interface with the lights, and showed me multiple styles. I felt I needed someone to see our home inside to assist with the best decision for our interior. We then scheduled an in home visit; Eric looked at our home/space/current lighting, and made recommendations of what he believed would be good for our situation. I had no idea that this was a service offered by Lamps Plus. I needed a professional lighting expert, and was thrilled that this service was available. After that complimentary visit, I scheduled the recessed light installation for our living room, and then as the story goes, the dining room got jealous, so we put lights in there. Meanwhile, the kitchen, a dark a gloomy place in its old life, received the same treatment, with lighting in the center area as well as above the kitchen table. The installers were professional, prompt, and careful as they did the work; nothing was damaged or broken. My lights have functioned perfectly since their installation. The following year, I had Erik back to write up an order for lights in the den, (wonderful), and now, I'm moving into the kids rooms. The fact that I was able to go to my local store, have a lighting expert like Erik guide me in good decisions, and then benefit from a great team to install the excellent products, just thrills me. I generally have low expectation with home upgrades, having lived through many such challenges, but in this case, it was easy, it was affordable, and I felt genuine interest by the Lamps Plus 'team' in our home lighting projects. Been going here for several years to get lamps. If you need an average table lamp go somewhere else. They're poorly made and cheaper somewhere else., also buy lighting that is a best seller. Anything else they may discontinue and replacing it won't happen. The older sales staff are great, especially John V. Younger staff seem to have a high turnover rate and may not be there to help you the next time. All things considered I have been happy with my big purchases ( a modern chandelier and bathroom lighting). The lower end stuff is, well, cheap and low end and I feel I paid too much. Go for serious purchases and make sure a senior sales person helps you. They can steer you away from mistakes and aren't pushy. read more

I was in the store back in Sep and purchased two chairs. The sales lady Chris was really helpful and nice. Originally I was going to come back a week later to pick up the chairs but Chris called and said they can deliver the chairs to me to save me the time and trouble of picking it up myself. Couple days after Chris called I went to the store and talk to the store manager, sorry forgot her name, to try to set up the delivery but due to the company truck maintenance schedule so the stuff couldn't deliver before I went out of state for business trip. The store manager advised I can come back to the store after I'm back from the trip then schedule the deliver for me. I did what I was advices. Call this Wednesday to try to set up the delivery and everything went south the second the "2nd store manager assistant" Newman answer the called. He had bad attitude when he answer the call and in a hurry to hang up because he has 3 customers line up in front of him. Left him my contact so he can call back when he was done with the 3 important in store customers. He did call back but then I was busy so can't set up the delivery over the phone and I've advised him I would do it tomorrow. Today I went to the store directly and try to set up the delivery then found out he can't find my record which shows I already paid for the 2 chairs and he can't find the item in the store stock room either. I pointed out the chair in the show room to let him know what chairs I've paid for then he said to me "I will have to check with Chris and Derek tomorrow because they are the only person that can schedule the delivery" wait what?! After all these I still need to leave my contact information again and wait for them to give me a call tomorrow to schedule the delivery?! I question him why he didn't tell me yesterday when I called and told him I was calling to schedule the delivery and how come he didn't tell me after I've gave him my first and last name today or the second I told him I was here to get the delivery set up or after him can't find the items I already paid for?! He raised his voice and started shutting and blame me for not wanted to talk to him yesterday when he called back. Way to go Newman, you've done an excellent job in poor customer service. read more
