My only complaint would be that when ordering online it's usually about a 30 minute prep time, so sometimes have to wait a little when picking up the order. We did not enjoy our takeout from this restaurant. The service was fast and friendly but unfortunately the food was just not very tasty. This is a takeout only establishment. So you walk-in and there's no tables just a few chairs and the take out window. We ordered orange beef and a poo poo platter. Everything was very mediocre. The beef wasn't crispy. Over sauced. The poo poo platter was a mess. The egg rolls were greasy, the ribs were chewy. The scallop and shrimp were ok I guess. I ordered fried rice and got yellow rice without anything in it that you expect in fried rice (onion, peas) and it didn't look the least bit fried. On a positive note, the food was hot and fast. A few years ago this place was one of the best. Now the food has no flavor and the meat is hard and barely flavorful. The price of the food does not match the quality. I wouldn't recommend to anyone. This has very good food. The people in our office like to order lunch from here. The food is always fresh and delicious. You can get pork or vegetable fried rice. Lunch comes with soup or egg roll. Don't be fooled by the 4 star review. Most reviews came over a year ago. If you like disgusting greasy garbage China Garden is the place for you. The egg rolls were greasy and burned. The Crab Rangoon was so overcooked the filling had come out and was almost empty. The rice was dried out and the food was horrible. This place has gone downhill. I also don't usually write reviews, but in this case I felt compelled. The packaging was secure and sturdy. I ordered crab rangoons and fried pork wontons. Both were cooked perfectly and both came with the right amount of sweet and sour sauce for dipping. The sesame chicken combination platter was cooked equally as well. This was great Chinese food. We had the steamed dumplings, the sauce had a really enjoyable kick to it. The crab Rangoon was delicious but I wish it was the triangle shape instead of the pouch shape because those are easier to eat. The pork fried rice, general tso chicken, and lo mein were great. DH and I tried this place tonight based on the fact that they were on our way home from a long trip and took orders online. Well folks, we have a winner! I am so glad that we found some good Chinese food fairly close to home. The lady behind the counter was quick and our order was ready as soon as we walked in and she even paused with a customer she was having some communication issues with to get us our food and out of there. I would give five stars if it wasn't for the location. Granted we picked up after dark, but it was only 6:30p and this is a super shady neighborhood! I asked for them to be cut in half if whole which they did I don't know if they normally serve them cut and my sauce was on the side as I asked now my chicken mei fun was not made correctly but if I wanted it to be regularly made it would have been fine. China Gardens is right near my house, my roommates and I order it frequently. Last time I was in there I couldnt help but notice how incredibly clean the kitchen was. The staff is very friendly, pricing is right, portions are great, and you cant ask for much more out of your local Chinese restaurant. I think I found my new go to Chinese take out spot in the hood! We called and ordered and they said it would be ready in 10 minutes. Unfortunately, I did not turn around when I noticed the first health code violation; the front door was propped open for easy access to flies or other insects to enter the restaurant. I understood why they propped the door open when entering because it was about 20 degrees hotter inside than it was outside (95 degrees). And yet, I still ordered two entrees; Mongolian beef and General Tso's tofu. The General Tso sauce was worse than bottled store-bought. I detected zero hoisin in the General Tso, which is one of the main ingredients in the recipe. The Mongolian beef was edible until I found a piece of metal shaving l in it. The metal was likely from a steel scouring pad (image included). There was also a child, who appeared to be under the age of eight, walking around the tiny kitchen and deep fryer area, which is visible from the counter. Typical Chinese takeout with 100+ combinations available. They don't have a website, but their menu is identical to every other NY-style Chinese restaurant. While waiting for my food inside the restaurant, I was approached by a poor middle-aged lady who was crying. She asked for money. I'm okay with giving a few bucks to folks who are down on their luck, but I don't think the owners of China Gardens should allow such solicitations in their restaurant. Good thing I didn't give away all of my cash, because when I tried using my Visa to pay for my meal, the guy informed me the restaurant is CASH ONLY. Yikes! Blast from the past. I ordered General Tso's extra extra spicy. Unfortunately, I couldn't really tell that it was spicy at all--definitely not the "extra extra spicy" that I'd specified. The meat was tougher than average. Disappointing. One positive thing--large portions for very cheap. My meal of chicken, rice, and an egg roll was $7.25. I ate a lot of food and still had about half of it left over. Definitely not the cleanest place... but then again, this is on Nebraska Ave so your expectations can't be too high. The prior review noted this place as "super clean." Things have obviously gone downhill over the past two years. (Also true of America... but that's another story.) When the Chinese cravings strike, this boy will continue playing it safe with Pei Wei. read more
