Dr. R. struck me as a bit of an oddball when I first met him--almost overly cheerful. Over time, though, that demeanor seemed to fade. I never felt like my dental needs were truly being addressed; it often felt more like my teeth were being prepped for future repairs. Then came a visit where he told me I needed a root canal on a healthy tooth. At the time, I didn't question his opinion, but I had my doubts. My understanding is that root canals are typically necessary when a tooth is significantly compromised. At my most recent visit, a molar cracked, and I immediately had that sinking feeling: "root canal." I was right. When I told him I wasn't on board, he simply stood there tapping his foot, waiting for me to give in. I told him I would be seeking a second opinion--and that's exactly what I did. My new dentist confirmed that a root canal was not necessary, as the tooth was still healthy. Unfortunately, that experience caused me to lose all trust.

Markarian charges for the consultation, claims he can save the tooth with a root canal despite the cracks. Not knowing any better we agree to go forward which was another $1,070. The root canal lasted about a week, gets infected because of the cracks and so an oral surgeon had to pull the tooth anyway. Markarian claims he tried to persuade her not to get root canal which is bull. We have no experience in this. He graciously gives $250 back for $1,000 root canal that lasted a week. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Second - Dr. Diliberto successfully completed the root canal. No longer any pain, didn't crack my original crown, and the doctor and the staff are all fantastic! It's very quiet inside and doesn't make you feel like you're sitting in steerage waiting for the Ship's Dentist to have his turn at you. He has taken very good care of my dental needs. He spends the time to get to know you and really puts his focus on the patient. His staff shares his philosophy. He fixed a major gum bleeding issue I had using a laser device and since then, I have been walking in the paths of Dental Righteousness. He accepts the TRICARE Retiree Dental Plan, but he is not in their network. Despite prodding from TRICARE, I am more than willing to pay the additional cost of Dr. Schillinger's care because the Dentist-in-a-box places (cough-Heartland Dental-cough) don't offer the same care and concern. Their dentists are not there to stay, unlike Dr. Schillinger.
