This restaurant is located near the dock right by the ferry station in the cape. It looks small on the outside, but quite roomy on the inside. There's a large bar area and large dinning area as well. We came for lunch and it was quite slow, only a few other people in the restaurant. We were seated immediately and drinks were brought to our table quickly. We both ordered bloody Mary's. It was fine, nothing special. I ordered the lobster casserole which was filled with tons of lobster meat. I also had the sweet potato fries which were good, not too soggy. My buddy ordered the fried seafood trio. It came with shrimp, scallops, and squid. It was ok, also nothing special. The macaroni salad that it came with was a little bit too sour and we didn't touch it. It was overall just an ok meal, which was sort of disappointing because I had been waiting all week for this place to open up for me to try it. Maybe next time it'll better. read more

Okay. This place is awesomesauce. The decor is really cool - I love the buoys hanging from the ceiling, and the food was delicious. I ate way too much bread before the meal, but it was SO GOOD. Then I indulged in oysters and shared the clam chowder and Fried Fisherman's Platter with my girls. Everything was cooked perfectly and deliciously, AND our waitress was very sweet, attentive, and considerate. Great ambiance and great food! Oh, P.S. we got cake - it was one of the best slices of cake that I've ever had...and I've had A LOT of cake. It was light, sweet, and like dessert utopia. Food needs serious improvement. I will not return despite its special dockside atmosphere. Locals warned us of the mediocre food, but it was the only Woods Hole place open for a late nite meal. Ordered steamers (a new eng classic) but clams smelled bad & were not fresh nor freshly cooked. Clams should smell like the ocean and sweet. These were clearly rancid and unacceptable. We avoided illness and did not eat. Our server (kind college-aged guy) apologized & took it off tab. Stuffed clam app was over cooked. $32 "special" linguine with clams tasted fine but only had 6 clams with little pasta. A RIP OFF! Place is fine for a drink I guess, but avoid the food. The locals were exactly right. read more

Good food, nice staff, a bit pretentious as is to be expected but overall a really nice time. The place is certainly priced for the clientele they want, but the view is very nice if not a bit overrated. I'm from Maui and the price they're charging for the view is twice what most of my favorite spots back home charge for a far better one. I'd go back, but only if there wasn't a better option available at the moment. Good restaurant, worth about 2/3 what they're charging. read more

After a day at Woods Hole Institue learning more of Titanic's ill-fated night and sightseeing the Cape's local flair, my former love and I dined here for dinner on our mini vacation of happier times in a past life of adult times. The decor is nautical rustic theme, and seafood cuisine appropriate to its location on the shore of Cape Cod. The crabcakes were very tasty yet somewhat moist as most restauranters prepare it very dry. The shrimp were very tasty along with my pasta. I don't remember my former love's entrée or appetizer were as he is not a huge fan of seafood, particular anything with bones which requires work for one to remove before consuming. The staff is warm and friendly in true Cape Cod fashion. I believe there is a full-service bar. I rate it four stars as the service is moderately slow as a native New Yorker "time is money" which I'm used to being on the go. read more

We were worried reading some of the reviews and this was a special occasion we have been waiting for. We had a great time! We booked well in advance so had a table by the window. This makes a difference. Fun watching boats come in to pickup food! Terrific Eel pond margarita. All entrees were very good; bluefin tuna over soba noodles special featured tuna prepared just right; appetizers deserve special note as mussels feature superb tasty broth and kale salad was very fresh and well prepared. Busy Saturday night and we got water for us all whenever we needed it. This is an overwhyseason for many Cape businesses so glad to see some to do it right! read more

I've been coming to the Landfall for years, it's one of my favorite traditions. There is a reason why it's been open so long and has a lot to do with the incredible view. It's right on the water in Wood's Hole and is very open and airy (which is a definite plus right now). They are definitely an old school restaurant, every meal starts with amazing garlic bread and everyone gets a salad included in their entree order. This is definitely the place to be if you are a seafood lover, but their no seafood options are pretty tasty too. Knocking off one star as they tend to overcook the filet mignon here, but again, seafood is their strength. They also have a fun cocktail menu and drinking a tropical drink while gazing at the ocean is worth the trip here. During non pandemic times parking can be tough but they valet! read more

Nice view. Cool room. Nice waitress. Fast service. However the (expensive) food is totally mediocre. We went for lunch. I had fish tacos that were on what tasted like stale tortilla, chewy (lightly fried I guess?) fish was over fried and not tasty, wilted lettuce and French fries meh. Probably the worst tacos I have ever had. My husband had the sword fish sandwich which was a little better but on boring roll.... not great especially for $20 per entree! It was a disappointment. read more

I've dined in this establishment a couple of times and found both service and food to be exceptional. If you are in Falmouth and Woods Hole area try it out. You won't be disappointed. I'm from California now and stop here whenever I visit on Cape Cod. read more

This restaurant was everything we wanted and more. The area has very limited parking but this restaurant has its own lot which was a huge perk. We were seated quickly by a smiling pleasant hostess. Great ambiance...cold chowder, cold clams...sent back got back burned clams. This used to be one of our favorite go to restaurants...but can not see us ever taking guests there again. Maybe its the end of season menu. It was not good. read more

Hostess SUCKED! After that, the kitchen did nothing wrong. Cooked to order. HUGE tomato slices. Leafy lettuce (not the crunchy middle stalk) The potato salad had a cardboard taste.. Thats because I had to eat it using the cover it came with. Hostess, sucked... No silverware, napkins, condiments or generally GIVE A DAMN. She "sent" my order before i was done ordering. Preset machine buttons and she is ordering according to how fast she can out her elbows back on the counter and sigh. Consider this my verbal bitch slap. read more

A few things: 1. Food is overpriced, simple as that. Large prices, small-ish portions depending on what you get. 2. When we went, the hostess was awesome. Friendly, sincere, and knew what she was doing. Made sure we were seated and that we were enjoying out food once the main course came out. 3. Garlic bread is amazing. I don't care what kind of diet you're on, you will cave and eat six pieces. HOWEVER, it is an issue when the bread is the highlight of the meal. 4. Food in general was mediocre at best. Fried food was good, but Mcdonald's also has fried food. 5. The view is top notch. You get a great view of Woods Hole, and can get a meal to accompany the view. read more

The best restaurant in Falmouth! Love the open air dining area. With all the wood from old ships as beams and buoys in the rafters. Right on the water in Woods hole beautiful. Free parking, reservations which is nice because most restaurants in area do not. Excellent seafood always fresh. The sandwiches are also always good.We visit Falmouth for one week every August. We enjoy the restaurant so much we always eat there at least twice. Can not wait to return. read more

This was the first time I've ever had a gluten-free order in any restaurant go wrong. The menu said they could prepare pasta and vegetables gluten-free. But the way they do it is by just removing the pasta. Then they didn't even give me extra vegetables to compensate for the loss of the pasta. I spent $21 for a half a plate of vegetables. read more

First, the service was excellent. Unfortunately the calamari was not, It was way too dry and chewy. My broiled scallops were very good, but the scrod was a bit chewy, like it was frozen. The garlic bread was tasty but a little limp. Given the price, I was expecting everything to be excellent. read more

Good kids menu. Solid clam chowder. Garlic toast is the highlight. Entrees are waaaaaay overpriced. Poor customer service. Overpriced generally ($15 for a so-so not cold martini, $13 for a kids meal burger). While I appreciate that the decor is historical it creates a dark atmosphere. Everything feels 'old' and not in a good historical way...more in a 'really needs updating' way. read more

I was not a fan of this place. The food was just not that good. Fortunately I overheard another table about a but one get one half off deal. It was either through Yelp or Groupon. I'm pretty sure it was Yelp. Even though we had already ordered. The waitress still applied the offer to our check. Very cute inside I just wish the food was better. read more

Not bad, but not great, and definitely not worth the price. My meal cost about $35 and I would say it was worth about $20. Service was OK. Ambience is OK -- the decor is neat but I feel like this restaurant is trying to be more pretentious/formal than it really is. I wasn't unhappy with my meal, it was well prepared but it just wasn't worth it. I won't be back. read more

Have been here many times in the past and enjoyed it. This year not so much. Usually a great start to a Vineyard vacation. We dined today, a Sunday night and I decided to indulge and order the usually excellent light fried and fresh seafood platter. This year post Covid the price was raised to $37 but I get that given a rough last year. The food tasted like it was cooked some time ago and refired for Sunday, same with the fries. Clearly a mistake. Three stars for the staff, great location and years of doing it right. The take away is to maybe try something else than the fried fish platter. Especially at $37. read more

The atmosphere was cool - nice view, and decorations, but it was hot inside. I wish that is was the same temperature as the outside. The appetizers and dessert and drinks were FANTASTIC. The entrees were not the best, scallops were not good, neither the steak. The fish and chips were decent. The service was slow, especially for the entrees. read more

Gotta say the service was pretty chaotic, with forgotten silverware despite many asks. But the food was good, and the atmosphere on the "first come, first served" patio was nice. Chowd - nicely thick and creamy without any raw flour taste, could use a few more clams and a bit of seasoning but very good. I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5. I had a Caesar salad with swordfish tips, which were just slightly overcooked. All in all, an OK meal, but nothing amazing. read more

We came here for Mother's Day, and the ladies were all happy we did. On Mother's Day, having the Momma and her kids happy is the number one priority. #winning Yes, it's a little bit pricey, but it's a restaurant literally *on the water* in Woods Hole, Cape Cod. The Momma had the frittata and the mimosas and loved both (this was the most important thing). Our Daughter had her first Shirley Temple, which she loved. She also loved her Nobska Salad. Our server was wonderful - just the right amount of personality and attentiveness. In fact, everyone I spoke with there was quite nice, from the hostess, who read my Open Table request to greet my party by name, from the bartender, who shared with me some of the history of the restaurant. The food was fine, the view was great, and our server was wonderful. I have zero complaints, and I may bring everyone back again next year. I'm giving them three stars because their service is great from the moment you walk in, they are extremely accommodating and the wait staff is great as well...... Wish I could say more good things about food...... I think it's one of those restaurants that you gotta stick to what they do really well...... I had the brunch menu and it looked really good but when we got our food, the deep fried home fries we're so overcooked you couldn't get a potato, it was more like deep fried chips, The fritata was way overcooked. The avocado toast was extremely disappointing, instead of serving the avocado over some kind of artisan bread it was served over white bread that wasn't even toasted..... every entrée was served with a complementary fruit bowl, the fruit was a few days old. The pineapple was brown....... I'm not extremely disappointed because the price was really affordable, but for God sake it's brunch step up your game in the kitchen so that it's equal to the great service and staff. read more

This place was very nice as it was right off the pier. They seated us right by the docks and we had a beautiful view of the water. The ambience was nice and the staff were very friendly. I ordered the lobster roll and my wife had the scallops. The lobster roll was very well prepared. The bun they used was perfect and it overflowed with lobster meat. My wife liked her scallops. We enjoyed our restaurant experience. Too bad we were visiting or we'd visit this place often for date nights. read more

History

Established in 1946.

"What was here before Landfall was here?" Well, there really was nothing here except a sandy beach and a sea wall. But over the years, Landfall has been constructed of wood taken from old shipwrecks and boards from old buildings. A removable wall divides our dining room in the spring and fall so we can keep our customers comfortable from the outside elements. The small windows over the French doors in the front of the restaurant were once the transom windows in the Breakwater Hotel - a hotel that once stood on Penzance Point here in Woods Hole. The big Gothic window came from a library. The stained glass window showing the wharf and waterfront scene came from the Prosser mansion of Penzance Point. The authentic lobster pots, harpoons, buoys, oars, lamps and other seagoing paraphernalia that are festooned from the beams, were gifts from some very special friends. Landfall was started in 1946 by a man who grew up around here in the summertime. His sons now own and run it.

There is on street but parking is strictly enforced 7 days a week until 6 I believe. They also have a lot around the corner they own that you can park at if its not full, but make sure you get the parking tag validated or you will pay.

It's located in a parking lot area near an old pub and you can park in that lot if you stay to eat here. It is simple and plain, a small family run operation, and there is but one picnic table in a shady area with a lawn, if you want to stay and eat. Most people seemed to grab and go. We planned to stay and shared the table, first with a family visiting from VA and as they left, a local Uber Driver on a lunch break stopped by, which she said she did when she was in that part of town at lunchtime. We had casual conversations with both. The lobster was pre-measured in little bags, obviously steamed, shelled and portioned for rolls in a kitchen somewhere. The other foods offered were hot dogs for kids and andouille sausage on rolls too. There were typical canned sodas to drink and bags of chips. Cars stopped by and did literally, grab and go, causing some traffic backups and horn honking on such a busy road. It was the simplest and blandest roll of our trip, although freshly steamed lobster meat, which we cannot easily get at home in CO for such a low price. I'm not sure it is worth going out of your way for, but if you are driving by, it's a quick stop.

But as we came back on our own to visit over the years, it has become our favorite seafood menu in Woods Hole. For many years we used the family friendly, student friendly, fried food classic down the street, but no more. It's always Shuckers for us. We were in town all morning, shopping and eating at our traditional brunch place not far from the Ferry Dock, which is always crowded, but still wonderful. Before we went back to the Woods Hole Passage Inn for a rest, we stopped in to make a dinner reservation. We were pleasantly surprised when we learned it was the Twin Lobster Special night. This classic steamed lobster dinner was at a special price this night, the same price they normally serve the single lobster tray. When we arrived for our dinner, they sat us on the floating patio barge docked at the edge of the dining room. We had seen it on a windy night the last time we were in town. I had watched it sway and bob while people were eating and swore I would never take a seat there myself. But tonight, on a beautiful, calm evening just before sunset, we accepted the challenge, and I am glad we did. There were ducks paddling along the edge and a beautiful view of Eel Pond. We ordered the special. Two whole steamed lobsters, corn on the cob, mussels, and roasted potatoes. We also ordered a beer for my husband and a strawberry lemonade spritz for me. We asked for a second tray to split the food. I cannot imagine one person eating the whole meal but we saw other diners doing so. The servers were fun and efficient, and the diners around us were enjoying themselves too. By splitting the trays, we had room to do all the cracking and peeling. The lobster was so fresh and it was the best we had on this trip. And amazingly, we were full at the end, saving just a little room for dessert at the restaurant down the street where we had our dessert last time. Shuckers does not do desserts at all. But later when we went down the street, the restaurant we had planned was closed. Apparently, even in high season, they only serve 4-5 nights a week and our night was not one of them. At least, we saved on calories and we had more time left to walk around the pond and take pictures of the sunset.

This place is usually one of my favorites and I know it well but last night while waiting in line for band night I witnessed an unfortunate harassment of women by Donnie Estes (previous owner) truculent girlfriend. Come to find out she doesn't work there and was impersonating a landfall employee. Likely intoxicated or on other substances, I watched her drag a woman out of the bar by her shirt for attempting to use the restroom while waiting in line. Then with my own friend who moved down the line to talk to our other waiting friends, Estes girlfriend went up to her posturing, rolling up her sleeves and shouting profanities in her face while demanding the bouncer to kick her out "for trying to get in" out of turn. While the bouncer was great and dismissive of the imposters aggressive antics, I was so uncomfortable and scared I would be her next victim that my friends and I decided to go to shuckers down the street for a great time! read more

Do not give this place business! My dog was attacked there and no one there including the manager or owner cared to check in on us! He also didn't care when I called after to tell him what had happened. It was loud enough too so there's no way it could have been missed. It is a liability that they do not enforce and ensure that people are actually bringing appropriately-behaved dogs to this social setting. They should have kicked the attacking family's dog out of the restaurant! I will be reporting them to the state. Additionally, they have some unhinged employee or friend who was hanging out there shouting at us and the manager acted like they didn't know him. Go anywhere else to give business but not this place! I would NOT trust this establishment across the board! read more

Last Saturday, we had. hands down, the best breakfast in Falmouth. The Landfall just began serving in the a.m. a week or so ago, and it really was great. The bacon was nice and chewy, crisp. The hash (although not homemade) was well-done, as requested. Egss and pancakes were equally yummy. We had the kids with us, and the waitress was great about offering crayons and paper, which makes everyone's meal just that much more enjoyable. We eat at the Landfall pretty frequently - Turkey Club w/fries is one of our favorites. It's a fun, friendly place to visit while in Woods Hole. Travelled 5 hours r/t to treat my grandson to this restaurant for his 10th birthday! He wanted lobster. $40. For a chix lobster! To be fair, he loved it! But, I nearly fell off my chair when he was served. I have been on a quest. This quest is not for gold nor jewels nor glory but for the best clam chowder lobster roll combination in Wood's Hole. I believe I have found this in Landfall.
