Huevos rancheros were eggs with some salsa, greens, rice, quinoa, and avocado. Delicious, but not huevos rancheros. **November 2025: Saturday Afternoon Visit** My friend and I had been eating pretty heavy food for the past couple of meals, so I decided to pick something a little lighter for lunch. The photos from Laney and Lu looked really refreshing so I was excited to try their offerings. PARKING: They're located inside a town center/maybe apartment complex? so there were many spots to park DINNIG: Experience: You order at the counter and they'll bring out your food. The space is very clean and modern looking, though you do need to bus your own tray. They have an area where you can also serve yourself cups of water. FOOD: The salads/grain bowls looked really impressive and were served in flat bowls. I ordered the following since they seemed to use many local Vermont and New Hampshire ingredient's -Delicata Squash Toast (SEASONAL): Local goat cheese, delicata squash, pickled mustard seed, microgreens, chili oil, pomegranate seeds on a Juniper Cottage Sourdough made in Newmarket, NH ($14) - This seasonal toast really surprised me. It was perfectly toasted but had enough bounce to hold all the toppings. The goat cheese really paired nicely with the squash and the pomegranate seeds gave each bite a nice brightness do it. This was fantastic. -Blissful Chakra: Spinach, mixed greens, kale, carrot, beet, purple cabbage, red and yellow pepper, cherry tomato, red onion, pepitas, green goddess dressing ($14) -This was very light and the cheery tomatoes tasted really juicy. The green goddess dressing is pretty light so I think if I were to get this again I would add the cilantro hummus (+$3) to make the salad more substantial -Seasonal Sipping Broth (SEASONAL): vegetable trimmings, greens, herbs, reishi mushroom, ginger, nutritional yeast, olive oil, jalapeño, coconut amino, spices ($6 small) - It was served pipping hot which is perfect, but it tasted a little bitter to me. SUMMARY: I really like the healthy options here and that they use many local ingredients. It's a non-meat option for health conscious foodies. That toast was bomb and if I come back I would definitely want to get another order of that or other toast combinations. read more

I like everything that I've eaten at Laney and Lu and I love that they use clean ingredients and clearly identify allergens. The only reason I have to give 3 stars is that no matter when I go, weekday or weekend, morning or midday, I end up waiting for a long time. I ordered two smoothies last week and waited 45 minutes. I wasn't alone, I saw many other customers waiting for sandwiches, coffee, etc. Some people even asked for refunds because they couldn't wait any longer. If you have the time to wait and are in for a leisurely breakfast or lunch, the food is good. read more

Very healthy fare, presented beautifully, and ample portions. I got the Cobb salad and the combination of every ingredient, all vegetarian, was surprisingly delicious. Not being a vegetarian, and having ordered a Cobb salad - without any meat ingredients - (it does include egg), I was not disappointed. I visited the restaurant opening week and it was packed, inside and out, early afternoon. Every customers seemed happy with their food and walking by a few of the other menu items that people had ordered and were eating, it seems as everything that is on the menu is presented nicely and that the restaurant doesn't skimp. I was given a special tasty treat today visiting Laney & Lu for the first time. This is an amazing place, very spacious with an outdoor patio, very neat and clean, plenty of parking (which is an anomaly for Portsmouth), excellent customer service and the food is delicious and divine! This is perfect combination if you want to relax and sit in and dine and or or if you want to eat quick and go but want something healthy, nourishing with high quality ingredients and taste. I had the best egg sandwich of my life, a Biscuit & Gravy Organic egg over easy with cashew mushroom gravy, walnut chorizo, spinach, micro-greens, scallion, served on gluten-free sweet potato biscuit. It was flavorful and fresh. In addition, they have an assortment of tasty and fresh pastries, designer coffee, espresso drinks and herbal teas. I had a "Macro" doughnut which was delightfully sweet, moist on the inside with a lustrous coat of sweet maple walnut glaze on the outside. I had the tea with Ashwaganda, gingko, lavender, tulsi, schisandra berries and it cleared my sinuses. I am a big fan of Laney & Lu in Exeter, NH. So, when I was in Portsmouth and passed by their beautiful new location, I had to stop in. This location is larger and maintain's the lovely L&L signature design, which is clean, tasteful, light, and airy. It's casual, but with polish. It was a pleasant place to eat my lunch while catching up on some work. The owner and staff are lovely. I so appreciate Laney & Lu's commitment to clean and local ingredients. With two young children and a busy schedule, sometimes I need to count on quick meals but I don't want to compromise my quality or health standards.
