Crispy cheesy tots to go with it. The real difficulty is not also buying the glimmering donuts, cakes, and sweet breads from Gwenie's, also inside the small shop. Just give in and know you'll be eating most of your daily calories and carbs there. Worth it. Lapu Lapu is about a 7-minute walk from the Pentagon City metro station, and there are only about 10-12 bar-style seats inside. After a morning workout, I decided to get some breakfast at Lapu Lapu. It is a cozy little eatery co-located with Gwennie's Bakery. Both have Filipino cuisine inspired menus and the first thing you notice is how warm and cozy it feels in the space. My egg and cheese sandwich was perfection. The eggs were fluffy and lightly salted.I loved the toasted brioche bun and the presentation in the cute half- box format. I finally returned after a wonderfully hosted Yelp event recently! This second visit did not disappoint. The place was hopping during lunch on Sunday! This is a perfect grab and go spot, but many people opted to stay and eat inside. Friend and I had to wait for an extra chair or stool seating against the windows. I honestly hope they will eventually move into a bigger space to accommodate more customers (but stay in Pentagon City or move closer to DC, please!!). I ordered the chorizo sandwich. Let's be clear, the sausage patty is actually longanisa, a sweet and spiced combination that is much different than the taste of chorizo. I'm so glad that there is now a Filipino store with Filipino pastries, drinks (refer to my gwenies review for more info) and sandwiches. I absolutely loved the longanisa sandwich with the runny egg. The portion size was pretty large as well. Services is pretty good they brought my sandwich to my seat. Lapu Lapu was fire my forst time out. Now my wife is Filipino so if there a bit of bias sure but trust me it's really good. Out of the two sandwiches I tried the Bistek was the best. If you don't know what Bistek is it's beef marinated with soy and cooked with onions but the sandwich Lapu Lapu constructs has a Philly Cheesesteak type feel and it's just phenomenal. The Chorizo was really good has well too can't go wrong there it's more a sweeter sausage so keep that in mind. There is a Gwenie's bakery there and the ube latte and all the filled donuts is FIRE!!!!!!!! We had the ube filled and mango filled pure perfection. The service there was also excellent they were very patient and accommodating which made it more pleasant. Inside the restaurant is very clean and bright but it's not huge there is maybe one to two small tables then bar type seating the goes all around. I really loved it but it's pretty pricey for the size. Filipino sandwich concept? I've never witnessed one until now and it's an absolute hit. The Bistek sandwich tastes similar to a cheesesteak, but nestled in between these fluffy pandesal buns. Gotta love supporting Filipino businesses! Having these two wonderful businesses together in one place is super convenient. They're located across the street from Costco and are easy to find. When you walk in, you're met with the smell of fresh food and are enticed into trying every little thing!
