Been to this place twice since it changed from "Salute" to Lara's. The location you can't beat, you're right on the water with plenty of parking and views for miles. The restaurant itself is very cozy with several different dining areas. The bar is impressive as well. The service and ambiance are great. We felt well taken care of during our visit. They had some yummy specials including a drink special which was a hot buttered rum. Which was perfect on a cool rainy day. They have a good variety of options for food including American and Italian dishes. And a lovely dessert cart featuring yummy desserts to top off your meal. The prices are reasonable, location is great, service is excellent, and food is good! I recommend Lara's! read more

I have dined here pre pandemic and now. This restaurant is consistently kind and provides great service. We were going to eat outdoors in the front of the restaurant but the hostess let us know they had a back area along the water with much better views and no one else was seated out there. We appreciated this very much. They also provided a heater right next to our table so that we were comfortable. This was especially nice because on this evening we had a failed dining experience at another restaurant in Richmond (see other recent posts) and Lara's saved the day. All staff wore masks and were fantastic. Clam chowder, entrees and desserts (creme brûlée) are always good here. Drinks are also great. Had a nice 20 year port this time around. read more

I was looking for a perfect place to celebrate my Dad on his 65th birthday. I chose Laura's Fine Dining because of the positive ratings and the menu options. It is pricey but it's worth it. I was a little saddened because I thought they would have gave a complementary birthday dessert after spending so much money but they said they don't give out free birthday desserts. The food was cooked good and seasoned well. I would definitely be back. Also, when eating at night by the fireplace, it can get cold because they have the windows open I understand with the pandemic ventilation is important but they could have adjusted the heat. read more

Dined today at this restaurant for my friend's birthday, It's a Tuesday .. it was not busy . Beautiful view of the marina , BUT ... service was AWFUL Our waiter was neglectful .. did not come back to check if our food was ok , Had to get someone else to give us a take out box for left overs , never came back to refill our water , the female waitress had to call our male waiter to come and attend to us ...and one more round to look for him for our bill .. Plus I have to add , for the cost of the dishes , the quality was subpar . Ordered Fish+ Chips with Fries and coleslaw , Lasagne , and a Caesar Salad . Cole slaw was drowning in the same dressing as the condiments , too much cheese on salad and not enough greens . Our Lasagne was swimming in cheese sauce and lacking in pasta .. In my opinion the food was very fair and service lacking ..Residents of Point Richmond .. save your monies .. not worth it ! read more

My wife and I had dinner at Lara's several weeks ago. We had been to the location before -- in one or more of its earlier incarnations. The physical place is easily recognizable and looks as if it has been unchanged since it was built, except for some basic maintenance. It's nice here! Lara's is a place to come to relax at the end of a long day (or difficult week or difficult month...). It's easy to drive to Lara's, to park, to settle in. The views of the harbor are soothing. When you sit down in the bar or in one of the dining rooms, time will stop for you. We decided to sit at the bar, ordered some drinks, wandered around. We met Lara, chatted with her, and then enlisted her to take some photos of us outside with some boats in the background. Time really came to a grinding halt. We watched some sports on the screens and ordered dinner. The menu is simple and unpretentious. The chef who prepared our meals has worked in the restaurant since the days before it was Lara's. The pasta, salads, burgers that come out of the kitchen are prepared with love. Service comes with a smile; don't be surprised if the person who takes your order calls you "honey." It's all good. We'll be back and definitely recommend that you try Lara's if you haven't already. read more

Here's is what I ordered: Clam chowder (4.75/5) Delicious chowder! Buttery smooth potatoes, wonderful creamy consistency, and perfectly delectable without any frills. I wish there were MORE clams! French fries (5/5) Perfectly fried and seasoned! So perfectly crisped as if they were double-fried. Catch of the day: petrale sole (4/5) A delightful petrale sole with yummy caper sauce, spinach, and awesome sweet potato fries. Nicely prepared! Food was superb, service was attentive, and sunset by the water was fantastic. I give this place a 4.5, because it's more of a "lowkey fine dining" rather than true fine dining. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at Lara's Fine Dining, and it was an absolutely amazing and flawless experience! Gon was so warm, welcoming, and responsive, and even gifted us a lovely bottle of rose as a wedding gift after our dinner! This was my first visit under new ownership. My fish was dry and tough. My friend's burger was pink inside. She ordered medium well, not medium rare. She sent it back. They brought her back the same burger. They simply put it back on the grill. Her fries were cold when the plate was brought back. We were both disappointed with our meals. This fine dining restaurant made me redefine the ideal of the term. When you think of "fine dining", your mind goes to that stuffy environment where the food is grossly expensive and small. But not this place. Lara's Fine Dining was actually a great experience all around. The restaurant sits beautifully over the waterside. Great place for an afternoon lunch , date night etc. We were greeted with such kindness , that I automatically felt welcomed within the establishment. My wife and I sat in a small dining area looking over the water. Our waitress Kimberly was one the most professional, kind, attention waitress that I have ever experienced. Her ability to float through the restaurant with such grace amazed me . My wife and I enjoyed some GREAT garlic bread. This bread was not the basic baked bread with margarine spread , but an actual fresh piece of bread topped with fresh garlic and BUTTER , baked to perfection ! I ordered the fish and chips , and the wife clam chowder. May I say I am not a fan of Cole slaw , but it was so wonderful tasting. The fish was perfectly fried , without the oily residue. My wife gave the clam chowder 10/10 . Even the regular bread was served with the choice of butter , olive and vinegar. We ended the lunch with a Creme Brûlée and it was tasty. Pretty disappointing. My wife and I went once for brunch and had the the crab crepes which were amazing! Last night we had a party of five and decided to celebrate a birthday, a belated graduation and belated fathers day. We were seated in a room all by ourselves and basically ignored. Service was super slow and we had to ask for things like salt and pepper (none on our table but it was on the other tables), replacing a dirty napkin, water refills, more bread, butter, etc. Three of us had the Marina Bay Soup. None of us were impressed. The seafood inside the soup was OK but the broth was basically brownish water, totally tasteless. My wife had the salmon which she said was good and my daughter had the shrimp fetechini which she said was great, so a mixed review here. So, you take you chances here. We have been here since it changed hands, I get it's a new restaurant and it's not about the food, the location or the atmosphere. This is about the POOR SERVICE, we dropped in this afternoon for a quick bite. We waited 5 minutes in the lobby before someone made eye contact with us, then she looked away and ignored my wife, myself and another person in front of us. No, "just a minute " or "someone will be with you shortly". I don't do bad service, won't be back anytime soon. Sorry Richmond, you deserve better. read more
