Our waitress was underage and was therefor unable to help us pick cocktails off the menu, not a huge deal, but not helpful. In general she seemed new and slightly unorganized. Failed to check on us that appropriate moments; things like that. Drinks were mediocre at best. We ordered the potato skins and they were simple, but good, large portion too; good for sharing! We shared a ribeye and it was a good cut of meat it was cooked okay, but lacked a little flavor. The dining area feels a little dicey, which isn't terrible, just something to be mindful of. We stopped in for dinner tonight at 7:00 pm. Party of 4 mature adults. The person who seated us said he was checking with the servers before seating us, then sat us near three other tables that had people finishing their dinner. We sat patiently for about 12 mins, then a server dropped off the check for one of the tables next to us and ignored us. A busboy came to clear their table and didn't pay attention to us. About 5 mins later another server dropped off the check to the other table next to us. I thought she would at least greet us - but she also ignored us and turned around to leave that table and was sure to turn so she faced away while turning around. After waiting for a very unreasonable amount of time we left. The restaurant was only about half full when we came in. All of the tables near us already had their food or had finished eating, so it's not like the sever was busy taking other orders or delivering meals to patrons. A horrible experience to say the least! Go find somewhere else. And - their online menu does not match their actual menu. We went a short distance down the street to the Cutwater Restaurant inside the Shore Lodge. We were greeted within 2 minutes of being seated. Very friendly service. To assume that everything tastes great in a restaurant and never return to the table is a sure way to make a customer unhappy. To assume the you do not need change when the bill was $24.?? and you are handed $30 is quite the turn off. To assume that $5 is sufficient change in this transaction is for me to assume you only wanted the change for a tip. Guess, it would be best for all not too assume. Tried again since it was not as good after changing hands last year . . . Well, things have not improved. SERVICE- Wait time was very very slow, so slow that the wait person compensated us for part of the meal, which was a good acknowledgement of how slow it was but I wouldn't want them to get in trouble. The wait person was not adept at what they do at all. FOOD & DRINKS - The food portion was very small. The prime rib dip sandwich was on a plain small hamburger bun & small amount of Au Jus !! The price was waaaay too much for that sandwich & a small serving of tater tots. I had to go to the bar to get my drink because the waiter never came back. The drink was the most bland tasting old fashioned I have ever tasted. I don't even know what alcohol you could use to make it that bland. The food was bland also. It was weird. Even the tater tots didn't taste like they used to or like any place that makes them, just very bland. Made me wonder where their food source is from. The lettuce had some brown on it throughout the salad. AMBIENCE - The cougar had been taken off the main dining area where it always used to be plus some other animals. What happened to Lardos? Once upon a time it was a great place for lunch or dinner, with good food, friendly service and fun atmosphere. It had been a few years since we last visited but thought it would be fun to check it out again for lunch. My husband ordered the lasagna (which he fondly remembered) and I had a BLT sandwich. When the lasagna came, it was covered in melted cheddar jack cheese and absolutely no red tomato sauce. He said it wasn't at all like what he remembered and was really disappointed. My sandwich was OK. Nothing to write home about. On a brighter note, our waiter was pleasant enough. The bill came to just over $50 because the lasagna was way overpriced at $25. Another table came in. Had there ordered taken. Had there order brought to them. Ate half of it and then our waitress finally came back to ask if we wanted to order. You're kidding right?!?!? Inside out: decorated in a fun, eclectic, and homey way. I love the humor, the local art, the old things that are just neat accents. The tables are older, custom wood, and show some wear in the best ways. Parking is easy and at least not during peak times- not too bad. Service: fast, friendly, no complaints. I would even go so far as to say personable and kind. Food: the prices are fair for the massive and tasty portions of rather traditional fare. This isn't fine dinning, it's the experience of a classic (truly, some dishes may not wow your socks off but you're going to leave full with leftovers.) Over all: this place is essential to any McCall visit. I've been coming to McCall since I was born and this place has never let me down. It's not going to blow your mind, but it might be a fun place to make some memories over a meal. read more

We have been visiting McCall for a handful of years and have always talked about eating here and trying the "famous" spaghetti. We finally made it in for dinner and won't be back. The service was beyond subpar. We have a family member with an egg allergy and we asked if the pasta was made with egg or not. The waitress said she'd ask and her answer was the chef doesn't know so better safe than sorry. Zero effort to find out or know what they are serving. After we ordered our appetizer took at least 30 minutes and in total probably waited an hour for our entrees. Keep in mind we ordered spaghetti and meatballs and a steak sandwich like what took so long? Calling the spaghetti famous is a HUGE reach. Also my baked potato looked so sad and we are in the potato capital. I've had better baked potatoes from Texas Roadhouse. The vibe and ambience was kind of depressing too. read more

I think there are a lot in f haters out there. This place is across from lake payette rustic mountain restaurant. Super cool inside, hosts 6 taps from local breweries. It's worth being a place to have a drink plus bar is open later than most in McCall. Haven't eaten here but cool, full bar and prioritized local beer. My entire family enjoyed the restaurant and the food. I needed my order to be done gluten free; they were very knowledgeable and helpful. The service here is slow and the food was just meh. The only thing your party enjoyed were the fried mushroom minus the weird sauce and I actually enjoyed the Philly otherwise the food was bad. So disappointed. This has been one of our favorite restaurants for over 20 years. The food is still pretty good but expensive, of course. However, the new owners rather completely destroyed the Old Timer, Gold Mining, hunting, and historical heritage of the place. We don't go to watch big screens we can't hear. Maybe the "California Motif" wI'll connect with the evolving McCall, but we'll never go back. read more

I grew up going to Lardo's since I was a kid. I have always loved it! I love the rustic vibe and that their service, menu and food quality have remained consistent over the last several decades- until recently.... I know the restaurant has new ownership- I appreciate that they haven't changed much of the decor and at least some of the food is the same. It might be growing pains but since new ownership there has been some noticeable changes, not for the good. There are the little things- my kids are soooo disappointed that they don't have coloring sheets for menus and they cut the jello cup desserts- this was iconic for Lardo's as no other place we have ever been to offers that dessert for a kids menu. I grew up with Lardo's jello cup desserts.... Thank you for keeping the fries the same! Aside from that, despite a few sad changes on the menu- that are easy to deal with- the service has took a huge dip. Last time we came a few months ago the service was extremely slow- due to dietary restrictions I have to make a few changes to menu items- like no mayo on sandwiches... I had to return it twice to get it right... Tonight we had service like we had never experienced before. We were expecting to be kind of busy, but not terrible at 5pm on a Friday. We had my in laws with us- we go here every time they are in town and we have never had problems. Today was a doozy. It was slow as we kind of expected. We ordered our drinks and half our party of 6 got them relatively quick, not the rest of us. My daughter got her lemonade when she was 1/2 way done with her meal, I received my glass of wine just about when the check came out at the end of our meal. My husband and mother-in-laws sandwiches arrived with no sides on the plate. The salads came significantly after the sandwiches. My father in law never got the cheese burger he ordered. I asked for no ham or mayo on my sandwich. I noticed when she brought it to us immediately that it was not what I ordered- it had ham and mayo. The waitress took it back, brought a 'fresh' sandwich within moments. It still had mayo and ham on it. With how quick the return was on that sandwich... I'd hate to think that she just walked away with it and brought the same plate right back, but that's what it appeared to have happened. I hope the new owners can get through these growing pains and changes because I want to still love Lardo's and continue my multigenerational family tradition of going there every time we visit McCall. Please bring back the jello cups and bring back the level of service and food quality that we have experienced for decades! read more

Terrible Service! Took over an hour to get our food. We had to ask to get water and our drinks. When the food came, it was cold and part of our order was wrong. As always, another fabulous time at Lardo. This restaurant is seriously underrated. There's nothing quite like one of their 1/3 pound, 100% ground beef patties with their signature Lardo fries (the best cut EVER) dipped in delicious house made fry sauce. On my most recent drop-in, husband and I ordered the Ranch Hand Burger (fried egg, Canadian bacon, salsa, $15.49) and the Jalapeño Burger (with Swiss, $15.49). He said his burger was delicious. There was a decent amount of salsa, so it was pretty messy but the combination of the egg and bacon with juicy burger was unbeatable. My jalapeños didn't quite pack the punch like it had previously, but overall it was still very, very yummy, especially with a lil dab of their fry sauce. I swear this is the best version I have yet to have. Can't wait to be back again very soon! read more

We are visiting family for the first time in McCall. We wanted to take them out to say thank you. After reviewing some local menus we decided on Lardo. It was exceptional food, service and dining. From our server Kayla, to the restaurant itself, to the food, everything was on point. The ribeye was moist and flavorful. The lasagna was so good. My Ruben sandwich needed a little more thousand island dressing, she quickly brought us. My littles loved the unique fries cut like round coins. The garlic toast was so flavorful. The hot cocoa was rich. And the molten chocolate cake with ice cream was enough for us all to share. Rich and sweet. I don't know how this place doesn't have a higher rating. #impressed +++ read more

This was a disappointment and turned into irritating. Decided for old time sake to go here as we used to stop when traveling as kids years ago. The place only had a handful of customers and for a Friday @ 7:30pm. We now know why. To start, we were seated with many open tables, sat down, the table was sticky. I didn't say anything and the waiter was curtious, but I got an uncomfortable vibe. I wanted to order a reuben, fish, or chicken sandwich but switched to a burger and tots because of my uneasiness. Also, the pricing looked a little steep. This is a tourist town so I wanted to be ok with the pricing but ordered accordingly. Went to the restroom. I will just leave it at they hadn't updated much. A restroom along the highway would have been nicer. The waiter said the order would be 10 mins. My husband just received his beer and said we were in no rush. I had water which came in plastic cup advertising the 1973 opening, maybe the cup was original? We both ended up ordering burgers. His had mushrooms & cheese, mine was Canadian bacon, cheese and mushroom, both came with pickles, tomato and onion on the side.No condiments other than ketchup on the table. As i said I got tots, he ordered the loaded potato so a surcharge would be added. The burger tasted like the good Costco sirloin burger, just slightly under cooked. Tots were warm. My husband's loaded baked potato had a few bacon bits, chives, and the cheese was nuked so bad he had to be chiseled out of the dish it came in. He's not picky, but when I saw he put ketchup on it to finish it I concluded it wasn't great. Now is when it got interesting. No itemized bill, just the total with the tip credit card machine. There was only 4 items to be added. We could do it in our heads. I wondered if they had incorporated a tourist tax? Asked for itemized list; Its not right. Three charges now as the upgraded potato charge is shown as one charge $10 more than our identical priced burger and $2 extra on a pint of beer. The waiter, a grown adult, just says "its in the machine, I can't do anything about it", even after my husband shows him the menu where the prices came from. My husband concludes he can't do math and is forced to asks to see the manager. She finally takes an extra $10 off. He nicely tipped the waiter and we leave in shock. read more

The host didn't say anything to us other than asking how many in our party. We felt rushed and it was not busy. Bad food, weird service. This used to be a go to in McCall. We frequented Lardo's prior to the new ownership. Service was always great, great drinks and good food. We have noticed since the new ownership, the restaurant lacked customers. We decided to give it a try. Now we know why. We were seated by the bar that was empty at the time. Ordered drinks, then food. Had to remind server to grab the drinks. Ordered loaded baked potato and a dinner salad. Salad was just lettuce and a couple of beets. Dressing was watered down. The others ordered burgers. One of them with a gluten free bun. The bartender brought out the food, burgers were cold. One not GF bartender took it back came immediately out with the burger on an almost frozen GF bun. Asked if we could order another drink but bartender said we had to ask our waitress which has been MIA....she finally came back and asked if we had paid yet??? We took that as time to go. Horrible food, poor service and many cranky customers. New ownership lost a great local clientele. read more

Great old school McCall restaurant that hasn't really changed much in a long time. But no need to fix up something that works. Had the burger with tots and man on man did it hit the spot. Delicious and cooked perfectly. I'd go back just to have another one with a cold beer. read more

I usually don't complain but this time I have to I ordered the bacon cheeseburger w/cheese it had no flavor at all the hamburger bun was over toasted & the Jamaican waiter needs to be Trained he never came by to ask how my food was or check on my water & he left pitcher of water out on a wood ledge where somebody could throw something in the water, I know this is Idaho, but still, you just never know so I wouldn't order the hamburger, but my wife had the cheesesteak sandwich and that was pretty good. I would recommend that over the Burger. Also, he should know the beer list. Hope this helps read more

First time in we only hung at the bar. Waitresses were quick and made them STIFF! Next time in we sat at a table. Wife got the spaghetti and I got a double cheese with Canadian bacon, and tots on the side. W also split a side of the loaded fries. Everything was delicious besides the spaghetti to be honest. Food and service were excellent! Drinks were strong! I had the spaghetti and meatballs with salad and blue cheese dressing. The meatballs were forgotten but that was quickly rectified by the waitress. All their dressings are house made and taste very fresh. The meat sauce was just like my grandma used to make. It was so heart warming. The meatballs were tasty but not necessary. There was plenty of meat in the sauce. My husband had the finger steaks and those were delicious as well. read more
