    The inside from our seat
    Cyndy And Randy R.

3.5 is where we've settled. We made a reservation via open table the day before so when we arrived at 5, we were greeted and seated almost immediately. There were seats inside and out. We ate inside. I'm including a picture from our seat since I don't know what words to use to describe it. We found it comfortable. We were asked if we were celebrating anything so we let them know we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We heard them ask several people the same question and thought that was pretty neat. The specials were read to us. They had special drinks, a salad and a special with sole, as well as sole being their market fish. We don't enjoy sole so unfortunately, we didn't get the special or the market fish. We started with the lemon Caesar salad which was good although it had a bit too much dressing for me. We're used to croutons on our Caesar salads but enjoyed the bread crumbs. It was a great size to share before our main meals. Randy ordered the house capellini but didn't really enjoy it. The pasta was not capellini and he says if it would have been, it might have made it better. The noodles had sauce on them but no sauce was available on the plate so it was indistinguishable as a vodka sauce. It was dry like that. The skin on the cherry tomatoes was thick for him so he didn't eat those. I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and asked for broccolini instead of the carrots on the menu. The chicken was a boneless breast and it was quite flavorful and delicious. I had plenty of the bacon gravy which was also flavorful. I rarely eat fried chicken so it being so good was a treat for me. Randy loved my dish, especially the potatoes. And he's not a gravy guy but he really liked the gravy, too. Our server was attentive, refilling our waters several times and checking in to make sure we were doing ok. We did not order dessert but when our check came, our server brought a small plate with some dark chocolate pieces and a burning candle on it to help us celebrate. A special touch for sure. I didn't get a picture of our main dishes dangit but I highly recommend the fried chicken.

Pork belly starters! Highly recommend. Salty and savory flavors with a "sushi" construction. Best to counterbalance with a fresh salad. I had the lamb bolognese pappardelle pasta, which was a hit. The pasta is made in house. Broad, tasty noodles that are elevated from what you would get at home. The burger entree looked wonderful as well. Ambience was fine with standard service. They did a great job with our large group. Restaurant is located adjacent to the hotel lobby.

We have been wanting to eat here for many years, and finally made a reservation. So glad we did. The service was excellent, attentive, but not overly. The drink/wine selection was impressive. And the food choices were amazing. It also appears they use seasonal produce from the area. I thoroughly enjoyed my fried chicken over mashed potatoes and gravy, with gently roasted carrots. Sadly, we did not have room for dessert, and we'll know next time to save room, as the desserts looked wonderful.

Larks was really nice restaurant with good service and good food. I sat at the bar and the bartender Samantha(?)(or Amanda) was really great, really friendly and good to chat with. At the recommendation of fellow bar patrons I got the fried chicken and it was very good. The skin on the chicken breast was nice and crispy but what made the dish was the bacon gravy they used. The potatoes and collard greens that came with it were not all that to me and everything needed a little salt for my taste but still overall good and I was pleased and satiated. Then for dessert I got the warm butter cake and omg it was sooo good, honestly didn't even need the ice cream that came with it, the cake itself was just so moist and delicious and the peach compote(?) was great touch. Almost forgot to mention that I had the maple nut old fashioned, I'm not a huge fan of old fashioneds but this maple one was definitely interesting, I'd say try it if you're an old fashioned kinda person. Overall I was very pleased with my experience at larks. Very nice restaurant but still lowkey. I would definitely go back as the menu had some nice options.

We showed up at 5 and were greeted by the same fabulous woman as last time. You just know that someone that kind and welcoming would not own a place she wasn't rightfully proud of. She sets the tone and all the employees carry it through the entire meal. We chose to try the patio tonight and it was cozy yet open, darker with a couple of fire lights around the room. Intimate. Some of the tables are separated by live plants in planter boxes. We loved it. We started with the beets (with shaved fennel pieces and a citrus vinaigrette with a tahini yogurt sauce on the bottom) and burrata (with grilled pieces of bread and sugar snap peas and capers) appetizers - both were delicious. Randy wanted to try another of their off menu drinks. We can't remember what this drink is called but it's not on the menu and has some Mai tai mix and orange bitters ... like a mock Mai tai spritzer. Delicious - Randy had two! I got the mushroom bolognese - so good. It's home made (!) bucatini pasta with a mushroom (cremini, oyster and shiitake) and san Marzano tomato sauce with burrata on top. I love mushrooms but Randy does not and he loved this dish. The mushrooms taste meaty. Randy ordered the Carbonara again and it was also delicious. We also got an order of garlic bread this time and wow. We each have half of our dinners left, lucky us. We shared the creme brûlée which came with a lavender short bread cookie. Perfect. Everything was perfect. The place was packed and all employees were calm and efficient and friendly. Can't wait to go back!

The service is good, we've been there with our family and with a large group, and they have always been very patient and friendly. Alchemy is in my top 3 favorite places for a dressy dinner when we are visiting Ashland. The only slightly negative thing I have to say is that we were there celebrating a birthday once and at the end of the meal our server brought out a candle on a small, flat ceramic dish. The birthday girl's comment was, "You just spent $300 on dinner and all they brought me for my birthday was a candle?" It seemed a little chintzy since most places will give you an actual dessert, not just a candle, but at least they brought a candle. Other than that tiny little thing, we still love to eat here and will be back when visiting in the future.

The latter changes seasonally--in our case it was a dashi broth with a variety of local mushrooms and vegetables. Both dishes were good, with my steak cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes amazingly creamy without tasting too buttery; the dashi broth was delicious as well. We also split the steak tartare, the house bread, and the chips & dip (seasonal special) as appetizers. With the exception of the chips & dip, the appetizers were good but nothing outstanding. The chips & dip, however, were REALLY GOOD! I did not know you could elevate potato chips like that, but their house-made chips are delicious and I would highly recommend trying them. Both my fiancé and I were not a huge fan of the sauce (just a little too creamy, it's really smooth though so if you like creamy sauces you'll probably enjoy it!), but just eating the plain chips was amazing. They even brought us a second serving of chips for free since we hadn't used all of the dip! We also ordered a pear tart for dessert which I would also recommend getting! Delicious crust and good pear flavor.

Speaking, the brisket in the Banh Mi was unfortunately tough and lacked the tenderness you'd expect from a properly smoked or braised cut. It had the distinct texture of a pre-packaged Sysco-style product, or perhaps it was a cold portion reheated on a flat top without being properly rehydrated, leaving it dry and chewy. I understand that protein carries a high food cost, especially in the current market. However, a more effective approach might be to balance the menu engineering by leaning on lower food cost items, like seasonal sides or creative vegetarian options, to offset the expense of sourcing and correctly preparing higher-end brisket. This would allow for a better product that justifies its price point, covers its own cost, and ultimately helps the company's bottom line while maintaining the quality standards this town deserves. I'd love to see a return to the quality I experienced a few years ago. All and all, despite the brisket. The service was kind and friendly.
