The subs themselves were pretty underwhelming -- not particularly big, and definitely not packed with flavor. A few years back I visited the Larry's Giant Subs location in Tampa and remember it being very good so I was pretty surprised by the 3-star rating. I decided to stop by and give them a try while out and about running errands last week. I was in the mood for a hot sub so I ordered the Gold Rush. The cashier was friendly and helpful. I filled my water cup and chose a table by the window. My sandwich was delivered to my table within 5 minutes. The presentation was good, looked fresh and tasty. I thought it was a very good hot sandwich. The salami, ham and turkey were warm. The provolone was perfectly melty. The lettuce and tomato added a nice refreshing factor. I really liked the Peruvian sauce as well. Of course, you can't forget about the bread. The white Italian sub roll tasted freshly baked; toasty yet soft. So this was actually my second time at a Larry's Giant Subs. My first experience was in the Arlington area and I have to say that location if I could give a 1/2 star I would of. I didn't find the quality of food there acceptable. I had barely any meat in my sandwich and long story short in my last bite of my sandwich I saw mold on my bread. Totally disgusted. Now to the present date of 2.28.2018 I was told by another yelper, try it again but on southside, you will not be disappointed. So I did. The results are in and I am glad I did. 5 star rating on this location. The sub shop was clean, staff was friendly, so many different options in choice of sandwiches, accommodating to gluten free choices( leaking more toward this lifestyle) an over abundance of drink choices, clean restrooms, and a cool and inviting atmosphere with a Giant Gorilla and many pictures and wall decor. Oh and I forgot to add a drive thru window. From NJ we take pride in Subs and Hoagies. Why don't I go here more? It's close to home and amazing! I actually attempted to go to another, new sub place but they have the most frustrating hours and are closed on Sunday, so I went where I knew I would get exactly what I was craving! The parking lot was super packed so I was worried it would be a long wait - and I had to head to work in an hour - but they were fast and efficient. The girl that took my order was nice, knowledgable and friendly. I got a 12' Killer because it's the best version of an Italian - ham, 2 salamis, Provolone and (I think) a capi or something similar. Paired with chips, fountain drink and bottled water - gotta hydrate! I spent $15. (I was planning ahead with the water and larger sub for my break at work. I wouldn't usually get so much!) This sub was perfect - exactly what I wanted it to be. Had the option to do wheat bread and everything! They have a lot of health conscious options, including some fancy salt and pepper, natural sugar sodas and chip alternatives. The decor is this super amazing mix of NY and the 80s/90s and I loved it! Tables are covered with old images and the walls have lots of NY nods - King Kong hangs out to watch you eat, too. Really family friendly and chill. For being their corporate store you would think they would have properly posted H.o.O and not allow orders to be placed when they are closed. But everywhere you look says they are open (10am - 6pm) and allows you to place/pay for your online orders. Show up to the store and they are closed, but when you call the others stores in town and are being told by M.o.D they should be open is kind of irritating, seem to have no issues taking your money. I appreciate that they offer a military/first responded discount. The man taking our order (sorry, didn't catch his name) was pleasant and quick, as was our order. What's there not to love about a Larry's? Especially one with a drive thru!?! I usually have my order placed 10 minutes before I go on lunch (around 1) and my sub has always been ready when I arrive. On my lazy days I will sit at the drive thru just to tell them I placed my order online. I think going in and picking up the sub takes just about the same time. Every time I drove on Southside, I will look at the most outstanding building Larry's sub. They have a giant gorilla and the building is so pretty. The sub was warm and fresh. This used to be THE Larry's to grab a sub. Lately, say, the last 2 years, it's really gone downhill. I want to like the place, cool stuff inside and great location.. Had my normal lunch at Larry's, it's been a Jacksonville tradition for years! The food is always on point, sandwiches are very good, my go to choice almost always is the Giant Delight which is a warm sandwich with lots of goodies on it! No Thank You, Kiss My Butt or anything.... so I waited for him to come back, I said I'd like my receipt if possible so he said we don't give out receipts and I said really, that's interesting.... he finally said unless someone asks for one! Once agin he throws the receipt on the counter and stomps off! The lady behind the counter brought my sandwich out and was very nice and thankful for my business, I appreciated that and then she said wait.... I forgot your pickle, she grabbed a pickle for me and then got me a bag to put everything to go in, she was very nice but I just wanted to tell the guy kid to just go home if you don't want to be here, go find something else you enjoy doing!! Credit to you American's as you know how to put together a good sandwich, from the simplicity of Jimmy John's to the meaty art of Firehouse. Larry's have a hugely extensive menu, a good range of hot-sauces, and a nice variety of standard and unfamiliar chips to choose between. As someone who likes toasted/hot sandwiches, I ordered the Gold Rush which is a salami, ham, turkey and provolone sub with the regular veggies, but it's the fantastic Raikes Island Peruvian Sauce that makes the whole thing sing. I have eaten here a lot, and unfortunately it has been going down for a few months now, especially late night weekends. Last night, Friday, about 10 I ordered two chili dogs with onions through the app. What I got was awful! The hot dogs were cut up for some reason, they didn't chop the onions just threw some slices on there, and there was barely any chili. They put a very small amount of chili on the bun and the cut up hotdog on top! It was just weird and not good. I understand this is a sandwich place and doesn't specialize in hotdogs. I'm so surprised with the reviews on this place. I'm glad I didn't look at them before coming in. The food was so good. I didn't not leave one bite. I had a chicken breast blt. So good. My husband had the steak and cheese, which I tasted and was good. After I finished eating I really wanted a cookie, that they had in display by the cashier. While I was there I noticed lots of pictures of these guys with famous actors, singers, etc so I asked about "Larry". The cashier showed me who Larry was, his wife and 2 sons. She explained the corporate office was upstairs and Larry does come on down from time to time. The location was really nice and clean. So this is my first 1 star review and it kills me because I usually a Larry's Sub fan. On 03/06/2015 we called in our to go order for delivery just before 11am so we could be first in line for delivery. The rep that answered the phone took the order, was nice and that was that we felt like everything was in good order. They took our credit card information for 2 subs and thanked us for our order, order numbers 89 &90. After the first hour had almost passed we called and told them about our order and they said they were busy and they were sending the subs out now. Mind you we work at Merrill Lynch right across the street. After looking at our receipts when we finally got out subs we saw the time the order was entered was 12:01pm, someone forgot to put our order in. I can forgive human error all day long but the events that unfold from here on out will shape my and a lot of peoples opinion here forever. We Called again at 1pm just over two hours from the time we placed our order and spoke with a rep that wouldn't give us any reason other than we are busy on why it had been 2 hours and our subs were not here. We spoke with the manager Andrea and she was the rudest person I have spoken to at a place of business in a long time. We asked if why it had been over two hours and still no subs and she again replied like the person previously spoken to and said we are busy. I asked is it common practice for it to take over two hours for a delivery order when placed at 11am she said it can be when they are busy. I asked her to take a minute and think about what she just said and you could tell she just didn't care at all. I asked her if we would be refunded for the subs and she said no we could take it up with corporate and gave us the number of 9047399069. Once we got our 2 subs finally at 1:24pm two and a half hours after we placed the order I went ahead and called that phone number given to me by the manager. I spoke with Jennifer who announced herself as the director of operations. She sounded like she was kind of concerned but just wanted to get off the phone. I gave her all of my information and advise I felt like I deserved a refund or a gift card or heck an apology would have made me happy at this point. She said she would have to speak with Larry or Mitchell about a possible solution and she would call me Monday. I called Monday after 3pm and no answer and over two weeks later I still have not gotten a phone call. After this horrible experience I would have to say no one here will be eating at Larry's period. That really sucks because I really liked there subs and after my team finding out about their delivery the week before this was our third order. Hopefully they will read this ad and call me 9126786738 (cell) and my fellow Yelpers will see this and understand that no food is worth being treated like crap.
