I live on the East side versus the Westside where he's located. I'll gladly drive long miles or take the metro because of the excellent service that I received on my Braun shaver. My shaver stopped holding the charge which I thought was because the batter needed changing and was ready to throw it out b/c I didn't want to deal with mailing it somewhere for servicing. Luckily, I found Larry's Shaver Shop on line so thought it was worth the drive to Santa Monica. So glad I did. He asked to keep the shaver to assess what exactly was wrong and found out it wasn't the shaver but the charging case that wasn't working. He also recommended new blades that helpled to improve my getting a closer shave. He's honest and trustworthy and very dependable. He gave me basic tips on recharging and cleaning. I was so thrilled with finding an honest and reliable customer service business, I brought several carving knives for service b/c I want to support their business. If prices are more than you'd pay at large department stores or online, Larry's Shaver Shop to me is worth the additional cost to preserve honest businesses who know their merchandise, go out of their way to provide education on how to use and keep our purchases working. read more

I will not go anywhere else to get shaving items and knives ! They provide amazing service that will not be provided when buying from Amazon or other sites with a lower prices. To me service is key incase I have questions or have an issue. They recommended a Panasonic razor which is outstanding - they explained why the unit was the best on the market for what I was looking for and they were right. Panasonic doesn't even have an 800# for questions. That's why we got to Larry's ! They even found a closed out Art of Shaving Lexington razor handle which was the best on the market. I went in to purchase a replacement cartridge head for a Braun electric shaver that normally costs under $50. They tried to sell me the replacement cartridge head for $80. When I asked why it was so expensive, the woman told me that the ones sold online are lower quality. This is not true. Target sells the Braun replacement cartridge head for $45. I believe that the woman tried to overcharge me, and did not tell me the truth. read more

This store sells shaving items at higher prices than they should. Way over the prices you can find items online or other stores. I do not think the fact that they are located in Santa Monica should justify it. I bought replacement blades for Braun S5, at $77.00 . You can find it online for less than $30.00. Do not waste your time going there. Shop for it online. Just be aware of shipping which could take about two to three days. I do not recommend this store at all. read more

November 2018 was the first time I walk into this store because my Andis professional clipper did not take any blade. I never used this clipper. I had no idea why it was not possible to insert a new blade. What happened is that when it was in the bag the top part of the clipper was pushed down. At the store I was told that it was broken and the top part needed to be replaced. The cost was $50. But the item was never used, how was it possible that it was already broken ? I ended up going to an authorized Andis store and in 5 seconds the owner and a screwdriver with a flat head pushed the top part back up and fixed it instantly. ( See pictures ) and you'll understand exactly what I described and what I am about to write. If you are familiar with clippers it is an obvious thing to do, if you are not you simply do not know. Still, I gave the store the benefit of the doubt. Were they not familiar with Andis even though is an all american made popular brand ? Today March 2019 I walked into this store for the second time to sharpen my knife. I planned to bring in a second knife later. I am asked how soon I need that done. I wonder if is there a rush charge to sharpen a knife ? After I say that it does not matter how soon it's done I am told that the price is $9. I always hear that Amazon it is killing the local stores and I like to support the small stores in my community, but how ? For $11.04 in two days by my door I will receive a sharpening rod that will let me sharp as many knifes as I want. Not sure how this store will stay open unless some improvements are made. read more

Don't go here for service. The family that took over this shop do NOT know their products or how to service them. I brought a straight razor to be honed and they claimed they couldn't do it. I took it to the formerly connected shop in Torrance where they actually know their product and how to service them. This shop is run by a family solely in it for retail without the effort to actually know their product or how to service it. It's great that you've given your family members a job. I took 5 of my chefs knives to Larry's. (Wusthof and Henkles) Also three pairs of hair cutting shears and my thinning shears (I am a hairstylist and all of these cost $500+). My bill was $130 and came back perfect and super sharp. I dropped off on a Thursday and was told they'd be ready Monday (they are only open Mon.-Fri.) I told the woman that i had a client Monday afternoon if i could pick them up as early as possible. She ended up calling me the next day to pick up early. She was the sweetest lady and we chatted about our struggles with business during the pandemic. Support small business! Also, pick up and drop off is at the door. No need to enter the store. I went in for an electric razor and the helpful staff member (owner?) helped me get just that. He was knowledgeable about his products and gave me useful advice. Best of all, he didn't try to sell me on the newest, flashiest device, but the one that he said was, in his opinion, the best for the money. I'm pretty sure they also do repairs. This is a cool little shop, I've found it harder and harder to come across good places in Los Angeles for Men's Shaving supplies. Larry's has a nice selection of Germany Merkur double edged razors for all you into traditional wetshaving. Multi-blade cartridge razors are not the way to go. They also have some nice brushes, soaps, and razor blades. Everything you need for a smooth shave. I came in here for the japanese Feather blades, and some Astras. The prices are fair and the staff is friendly, I'll look forward to coming back. This shop also does knife sharpening, I can't speak on that aspect of the business but the blades they had on display looked mighty sharp. P.S. I brought in a set of knives and Larry sharpened them for a really reasonable price. He makes a point of having them ready for you by the next day and wraps them in paper for easy transport. The knives were insanely sharp when he was done with them. Seriously, use caution when handling a Larry-sharpened blade! I definitely recommend using this shop. If you want to kick the lame/weak plastic razor habit then this is the place you need to visit. I got a double edge razor and about two months worth of blades for $28 or so. The shop is not much in the way of thrills, but who cares? You're here for the steel! They had some other trinkets like pocket knives and watches, and they sharpen blades. I believe it has been a family business since its inception, which is always a bonus. For me anyway. The parking on Wilshire tends to suck, but if you go around the block there's some street parking to be had. So, simple shop, good customer service, hard to find shaving items and a friendly staff. read more

I brought in a factory sharpened, hand made carbon steel Samurai sword for further sharpening after receiving a quote of $15-20.00 over the phone. Not a bad deal for 27 inches of cold steel, says I. I don't know where it was sent off to, but I dropped it off on a Friday and it was ready by Tuesday of the following week. The blade was definitely sharper, not the "drop a silk ribbon on the blade and cut it in two" sharp I was hoping for, but carbon steel is VERY difficult to sharpen, and I can assure you that if I was looking for a painless way to remove an arm or a foot, Larry's Shaver Shop has made it possible. My blade is incredibly sharp, and it cost me a total of $25.00-less than a dollar per inch. Awesome Possum. I'll be back! read more

By far the worst place I've gone to get my scissors sharpen.. I took two thinning shears, one shear and a old 292 adoration straight razor to get fixed and I feel like he didn't do nothing but polish them smh. The straight razor had a chip on the edge of it, all I wanted was to round the edge and sharpen. He fxxk it up! their for 300 in the trash.. A great variety of merchandise, and great although a bit overwhelming customer service, i.e attention. I would have liked to peruse the razors, stands and brushes without some asking me questions and suggesting one item or another, I did not care what aftershave Kennedy or Washington used. That said I likes the family business vibe, father, mother and very knowledgable if not "creative" son. Smiles, attentiveness and and great service are a plus. In the end I purchased a stand and razors. The price was $10 more than Amazon, but I expect that in a brick and mortar. And for me nothing beats hands in before dropping a few $$. The current owners are really nice. A married Asian couple. However everything in the shop is way and I do mean way overpriced. When I saw what they were charging on Spyderco and Benchmade knives I almost had a heart attack. They are charging 50% over list price, They had one beautiful Spyderco Knife I wanted and they had it priced at $460.00. Spyderco's price is $229.00. Even Amazon had it priced from an authorized online dealer for $219.00. I could have bought two of them for the price they had it listed at. When Larry was alive and running the store he had everything at a very competitive price to match online retailers. I bought a lot from him. It's very unfortunate that the current owners do not see this and match online prices or at least come close to it. I won't be going there anymore. Great service! I have a 16 year old Benchmade military grade pocket knife that was brought back to life. I have used it for work for years and was always reluctant to get it sharpened. I was looking to start off my bf into wet shaving and all the information i had was from online ppl and YouTube videos, but i had questions! he showed me the array of razors, brushes, creams and he was very patient and knowledgeable. the purpose of their business is to sell, obviously, but he wasn't pushing anything on me. It's nice to have a specialized shop for sharp tools in Santa Monica. They did a good job sharpening my two Japanese kitchen knives to a shaving sharp level, for a reasonable price. They also have a fairly nice pocket knife collection which are again reasonably priced. Going back shortly to get a new electric razor. read more

I like to support local spots and went in to buy a new electric shaver because my old one crapped out and it came from Larry's. The staff is helpful and nice so I dropped $280 on a new shaver. My husband went into this store to get a shaver. Initially he wanted to get the Panasonic and called the online store. He found they didn't know their products he had asked about two different shavers and they didn't know the difference so we decided to go to Larry's and are we glad we did. He was extremely knowledgeable and carried several brands. He told us that some of the Panasonic was made in China which immediately turned him off to that brand. He did let my husband who has very sensitive skin test several of the shavers and the Braun was the best fit. He went over the pros and cons with each shaver that my husband tried. He took over an hour with my husband. For repairs and when a replacement is needed we definitely will go back. read more

Today I took my brother's Remington shaver in for blades replacement. It wasn't cheap. Cost $45. Then in the end the salesman said that the motor was going out and he still sold me the replacement. I went on line and found the same part for a lot cheaper but I wanted to support small local businesses. I did not get any good advice nor do I think the guy really cared. I'll never go back.
